Patty discovered Christian Science as an adolescent and soon thereafter experienced the complete healing of a broken arm through Christian Science treatment, to the amazement of her mother, a registered nurse.After working in New York City in the fashion business, Patty realized she wanted to help children learn how to learn. So she returned to school and earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching.

The very first verse of the Bible in the chapter Genesis offers the most wonderful news: “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” Part of what this glorious verse tells us is that in reality, everything and everyone begins with God. In other words, God is the only cause and the only creator, and God is causing good and right developments for each one of us.

As a Christian Scientist, I’m always grateful for the understanding and respect shown by physicians toward our religious practice, so I particularly appreciate the thoughtful understanding Dr. Ray Barfield seeks to encourage in his medical students toward the varying religious views of those they encounter. I agree with him that the respect needs to be mutual and the listening two-way.
