The Mother Church has a centralized financial and business management function in the Treasurer’s Office. The objective of this position is to provide the Intern with broad exposure to the activities of the Treasurer’s Office, as well as the opportunity to gain practical experience in the areas of finance, accounting, and institutional investing.
Overview activities:
Introductory meetings with each of the primary functions of the Treasurer’s Office including Investments, Philanthropy (fundraising), Estates and Trusts (donations received through wills and trusts), Benevolence (grant making), Accounting, Audit (internal and external), Tax and Compliance, Procurement, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Benefits and Payroll.
Special Projects:
Assist with special projects and reporting within the internal and external audit, tax and compliance areas.
Assist in the preparation of tax filings, including gathering supporting documents, organizing data for federal, state, and local returns, performing calculations, and researching questions. Support work to review, track, and process various tax notices received by the Church.
Assist in the preparation of the quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors on investments.
Gain experience analyzing audited financial statements of the investment managers of the Church’s investment portfolio to determine the amount of fees charged by each manager. Learn how to compare portfolio level fees to industry averages. Draft a report to be reviewed by the Finance Committee of the Church.
Assist various areas of the Treasurer’s Office in a variety of processes and projects.
