Three generations after my grandmother found Christian Science while homesteading Canadian wheat fields, I am grateful that the gift of her example of compassionate, loving, joy-filled, consecrated practice of Christian Science continues to bless all. Early in life, through spiritual lessons learned in Christian Science Sunday School, I was led to a career in public service, moving through a series of unique experiences until I was appointed to various upper level, regulatory-management positions, where there were many joyful and challenging opportunities to apply those early Sunday School lessons and, later, what I  learned during Christian Science Primary class Instruction.

This letter was submitted in response to a Times commentary on “manifesting” that erroneously associates Christian Science with New Thought and the New Age practice of manifesting.

Christian Science has been the bedrock of my life since childhood. My mother was introduced to Christian Science before I was born and through her dedication to its teachings our family witnessed many healings. My spiritual education began with attendance at Sunday School and has continued through membership in branch churches. This membership has been an invaluable guide on my spiritual journey, as it has provided me with opportunities to learn and grow as a Christian Scientist.

Saying “yes” to God makes life a grand adventure.  Learning about my relationship with God benefitted every area of my life, from health to relationships to employment and supply. During college, I wasn’t sure what career path to follow.

When I was 21 I found myself in desperate straits. I was practically failing college, was addicted to drugs, in a bad marriage, alienated from any family and was on the verge of a serious mental breakdown. At that time, suicide seemed the only answer.

Before going into the healing ministry I had a professional career working as an executive in the management department for the space program. Earlier, I had earned a Diploma in Business Management.

Growing up as part of an active Christian Science family in Colorado, I was surrounded and nurtured by several generations of Christian Science practitioners and taught to rely on God. This way of life guided and steadied me, brought many blessings including the healing of a broken leg while skiing, true spiritual joy and integrity within business, and a wonderful marriage.

Early in childhood, after instantaneously healing a close family friend of smoking, I became aware of the spiritual power of Christian Science. This put a desire in my heart to heal others. As a lifelong Christian Scientist and a daughter of a  Journal -listed practitioner, I had the opportunity to witness, firsthand, many healings.
