Robin E Hoagland CSB

I grew up in an ecumenical household, with one parent practicing Christian Science and the other active in another Christian denomination. For many years, I alternated in attending the Sunday Schools of these two churches. And while I deeply appreciated the kindness and love of both congregations, I was ultimately drawn to how Christian Science showed me that God was knowable and ever-present, and that prayer was practical and effective in resolving whatever difficulties we face. College provided me with many opportunities to test the reliability of spiritual healing in Christian Science, and I found it fully freed me from contagious illnesses, sports injuries, and recurrent depression. It also helped me navigate through the moral complexities of a secular culture, allowing me to live joyfully independent of peer pressures.

Nate Frederick, CS

Experiencing first-hand the healing power of Love is Nate’s favorite thing.  It’s what makes him tick.Nate studied religion and perennial philosophy at Hampshire College where he was introduced to Christian Science healing. Although he was enamored with the academic exploration of spirituality, what he truly desired most was to practice spirituality in a tangible way — he wanted to experience God and heal others. After producing a documentary on miracles and traveling the world where he hiked extensively in the Himalayas, Nate came to Boston in 2008 to work for his church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist.

Janet Hegarty, CSB

What Janet loves about Christian Science is the way it answers pressing questions that come to all of us. Questions like: Who am I? Why am I here? How can I find health and happiness? These questions were uppermost in her thought as she entered college.

Betty Jean O'Neal CSB

I was a teenager when Christian Science entered my life, a woman handed me her unwanted periodicals. I read them and was intrigued by the way God was defined as impartial, all-inclusive Love. I felt that God was leading my life in a new direction.

Katie Sue Brown CSB

My love for the teachings of Christian Science started at a young age, with Christian Science grandparents and parents who showed me that expressing good, or God, was my purpose. They also taught me to pray to God for healing.

Anne-Francoise Bouffe CSB

Christian Science was introduced to our family when I was seven and I had the privilege of attending Sunday School in Paris. It was there that I learned to love the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

Lisa Troseth CSB

I was in my late teens when God became more real to me as an infinitely loving presence. At the time, I was struggling with tough relationship problems, so I was wide open to seeking divine answers.

Judith Hardy Olson CSB

Attending Christian Science Sunday School as a child, I loved what I learned there of God—He’s everywhere, always Love, and All. But going out into the “cold, cruel world,” I couldn’t reconcile what I was seeing with a God who is Love. Putting my Bible and Science and Health on the shelf, I forged ahead, just trying to live a moral, meaningful life. I married, had children, was happy, but missing was a depth to life.  Science and Health beckoned to me. Opening it, I saw my grandmother’s note inside: “Judith Ann—Read this.  You owe it to yourself.” I did, for the first time. When I came to “The calm, strong currents of true spirituality.
