Christian Science came into my family when Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy healed two of my great grandmothers of incurable diseases. Faithful teachers in Sunday School taught me to love the Bible and to practice its teachings.

I was raised in а family where loving God and relying on Him to heal all our problems was a way of life. It still is, for me.

I grew up on a farm in Indiana and at age eight witnessed my mom healed instantaneously while talking to a practitioner on the phone. I knew then I wanted to be a Christian Science practitioner.

Since childhood, I felt on a quest for understanding truth. I spent summers voraciously reading book after book to solve the mystery of the meaning of my life and the world.

My calling to the public practice of Christian Science came in the summer of 1973. As I sat quietly praying about my life's purpose one night, looking out over a placid Maine lake, the moon was laying a gentle path of light directly to me. I found myself asking, "what do you love?" Immediately the response came welling up, deep from within, "I love God, Christian Science, mankind, and music." My pathway was suddenly clear before me. I went back to college, changed my major to music, began serving actively in church, and responding to every opportunity to practice Christian Science that came my way. I took Primary class instruction in 1976, and Normal class in 2012.

When I took Christian Science Primary class instruction in my twenties, I found that the teachings were relevant to me as a tertiary student, young wife, mother of four children­, traveller and thinker. They also enhanced and steadied my life and work in Australia, England and Malaysia. Today, living in an environment of cultural, political, health and climate challenges, I find reassurance in this counsel from Mary Baker Eddy: ‘We must look deep into realism instead of accepting only the outward sense of things’ ( Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures ).

Christian Science was introduced to my family by my grandfather as a result of his complete healing of severe head injuries. Many healings in our family and a happy Sunday School experience followed.

I am a South African and come from a long line of family committed to the rights of man – based on a spiritual foundation. Throughout my life I have experienced evidence of God’s protecting and healing power in that I never missed a day of my schooling or business career due to illness. I was able to assist my fellow pupils and corporate colleagues to experience the presence of the Christ in many different situations.

Most people want the same things today they’ve always wanted—health, stability, and to have a good life. Throughout his lifetime, Christ Jesus responded to those desires by preaching the gospel of God's kingdom and by healing the sick and those who had lost their way. He taught his followers how to be Christian healers, too.
