Brian G Pennix CSB

Having been raised in Christian Science I always expected to become a practitioner. While my path may not have been as quick and direct as it probably has been for others, there were always signposts that I was on the right track.

Robert Coe Gilbert CSB

Although a life-long Christian Scientist, I didn’t embrace it fully until I had to deal with a number of challenges in college. After graduation, I was accepted into The Mother Church chaplain training program, attended seminary, and had a variety of assignments in the Army, including military prisons, hospitals, and a tour of duty in Vietnam. The public practice of healing naturally evolved and I became listed in the Journal in 1976. After completing active duty, my wife and I moved to California, where we raised two sons.

Pamela Joy Concar CSB

My family found Christian Science when my grandfather was terminally ill.  After his healing, my grandmother became a Christian Scientist and brought her eight children, including my mother, to Sunday School.  I was raised in Christian Science and saw many healings in my family: burns, facial lacerations, childhood diseases, which were healed quickly and permanently.  Wanting to learn more about how to heal, I went through Primary class.  I became active in my branch church as soon as I graduated from Sunday School. Raising a family and working, provided many opportunities to apply the healing principles of Christian Science.   Our family saw many healings and I had countless opportunities to share Christian Science with others.  After moving from the East Coast to the West Coast, I found that I was spending more and more time helping others through prayer.

Substance — Denise Osborn

Denise was preparing to attend her first Christian Science Association meeting when the lyrics to the song Substance came to her thought very quickly.  Music is a natural component of her practice of Christian Science. She has an album called Paradigm Shift by Onya—available on iTunes and CDbaby.

Bruce Fitzwater CSB

My family was entering into the study of Christian Science during my infancy. My childhood was graced by love felt through my mother’s selflessness and trust in God. As my father grew into the practical understanding of Jesus’ teachings, he and I shared many searching metaphysical discussions. At college and graduate school I studied philosophy and then taught philosophy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. However, this initial academic work, which I enjoyed and valued, deepened my underlying conviction that the goodness sought by the world and myself is most directly found through the study of Christian Science and its healing practice. On my return to the United States in 1971, I focused on preparation for becoming a practitioner. After entering the practice, I soon continued contact with academic communities as a Regional Representative to Christian Science organizations at universities. In the 1980’s, as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, I addressed audiences throughout the United States and in over 30 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia. Recently, I completed 10 years of service as state Committee on Publication.

Pamela P DeBolt CSB

As a child growing up in Nevada and California, our family was very enterprising. Though we didn’t have a great deal materially, I watched as my mother’s brand new study of Christian Science began to bring much good into our lives.

Dorothy E Estes CSB

Because my mother was such a faithful church-goer, I received my first Bible at the age of three for perfect attendance in a protestant church Sunday School. That record continued until high school when I went to work for a hospital on weekends.

Arcadia Ann Nones CSB

Growing up as part of an active Christian Science family in Colorado, I was surrounded and nurtured by several generations of Christian Science practitioners and taught to rely on God. This way of life guided and steadied me, brought many blessings including the healing of a broken leg while skiing, true spiritual joy and integrity within business, and a wonderful marriage.
