What is Christian Science Primary class instruction?
Class instruction is a 2-week course of study that teaches the student how to heal themselves and others. You study the questions and answers in the chapter Recapitulation in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Supplemental course material includes citations from the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy.
Class instruction equips students to be effective Christian healers. Based on the method of spiritual healing Jesus taught his disciples, class instruction offers a unique and precious opportunity to dig further into your relationship with God and your spiritual capacity as a Christian healer for the world.
How do I get started?
If you are interested in class or have questions, contact a teacher. Classes are held every year in many countries around the world and generally include 12 sessions over a two-week period. After completing class, students become members of an association with others who have taken class from the same teacher. Each association meets annually to provide for students’ continuing spiritual growth and progress.
You may want to begin by reading what Mary Baker Eddy wrote about teaching and class instruction in the Church Manual (Articles XXVI and XXVII).
Contact any authorized teacher of Christian Science to find out more about class instruction and request an application. Questions about requirements, dates, location, and format, should be discussed directly with the teacher. Mary Baker Eddy instructed teachers to charge $100 for class instruction. However, students are welcome to give as much as they see fit.
As you begin your search for a teacher, rest assured that your sincere desire to grow spiritually through Primary class instruction comes straight from God. You can trust God, divine Love, to lead you to the right class and teacher for you.

Find a Christian Science teacher
Participating in Christian Science class instruction is a natural step of progress in the practice of Christian Science healing. The joys of the class include not just the initial 12 days of spiritual instruction, but the ongoing opportunity to participate in a spiritual support system—an “association” of your teacher’s students that gathers each year to share in a day of spiritual refreshment, growth, inspiration, and prayer. Members of Christian Science associations develop strong spiritual bonds over the years and are deeply united in their commitment to spiritual healing everywhere, no matter who their teacher might be.
Visiting an association
If you are a class-taught Christian Scientist and aren’t able to attend your own association meeting this year, you can reach out to any other teacher or association for information on attending as a guest. You’ll find the contact information for all Christian Science teachers here. We’ve also compiled a list of those associations without teachers who share their contact information publicly. If you would like a copy of this list, please email boardofeducation@csps.com.
