Thank you Mary what a fresh thought!
What comes to mind is this fact as well."One on the side of God is a majority"
So if we just ponder one inspiring message we gleaned from the weekly Bible Lesson every day, every moment we make that truth come alive, we cherish it

The “Man of the Road"
I always like to tell people this story, because it is a story about Love, love for your fellow man. Not the nancy-pancy love, but true Love, Love from God. The kind you cannot explain with words no matter how hard you try. However, I am going to try to anyway because it is such a beautiful true story, and I want to share it with you.
This story is about a man named Eric. He lived in my town and he lived on the streets. When people saw him, they would cross to the other side of the street, not really wanting to be on the same side of the street as he was. He lived on the streets, and his clothing was rumpled, and he needed a haircut. He looked very simple, not like someone, you would want to be seen with and he always looked at the ground.
Whenever I would see Erick, I would ask him if he wanted tea. He would always look startled that I would want to be with him, we would then go into the restaurant, and I would order him whatever he wanted.
I remember one time on a cold, rainy, blustery night; I took Erick into a nice restaurant in my hometown. We proceeded to sit down when the waitress came over and in a loud voice said," He cannot eat here."
I was startled at the coldness of her voice, and taken aback. Eric was ashamed and immediately hung his head and went toward the door. I asked him to please sit on the bench and wait for me there. He did, looking at the floor, holding his hands in tightly clenched fists in a state of shame and nervousness.
I proceeded to ask the waiter what was going on here. I told her “that he was my guest”, that I was going to order a meal for my friend, and that I would pay for it. She said whenever he ate in the restaurant he would make a mess and the manager did not like it. I asked to see the manager. I spoke quietly with her assuring her that I would be responsible for cleaning up the mess if he made any. She said that would be fine.
I motioned for Eric to come and sit beside me at the table, and we proceeded to order. I noticed how nervous he was, but we went ahead. We ordered our meal, and enjoyed it. I left substantial monies to pay for any extra cleaning up and we left the restaurant and went out into the cold, dark, November night.
“Would you like to come to my place for a cup of tea?' I asked him, wanting to do something more for him.
Looking down at his feet, he sadly said," Sure, Peter, I would like that."
We proceeded to my apartment, and once inside I asked him if he would like a change of clothes and a shower. Ashamed and shy, he said" no, no thank you."
I said, “Ok, but at least allow me to change your socks for you and give you dry shoes."
I knelt down beside him and proceeded to take his wet, bottomless shoes off him, and pull off his stockings. As I was pulling them off I happened to look up at him.
His eyes were blue as the summer sky and filled with tears and he looked as though he had seen the dearest, most precious, thing in his life.
It was a streaming of Love I had never experienced in all of my ”loves." I was stunned, and was held me in the glance for a long time, as I had not had that kind of Love given to me ever. It was. Golden love, and pure, and filled my soul with a buoyancy that fairly lifted me off the floor.
Those eyes filled with that pure, redeeming Christ Love are still so clear in my mind as though it was yesterday. I often think that such a small thing as changing a man's shoes and socks could reveal the hem of the Christ.
He left soon after that, and went his way. I went mine.
About a year later, I was walking in that same neighbourhood when I felt a tap from behind on my shoulder. I turned abruptly, not knowing what to expect, and...It was man in a top coat, with a nice hat, and boots, and his hair was combed, and he was smiling with those enchanting blue eyes that smiled now at the corners.
“Eric, what happened?
"Well, I felt so much better with the dry shoes and socks you gave me with so much love, I went to the nearest shelter, and they took me in. Soon I was offered a room, and I was able to get a job in the cafeteria, and now, well...come on and see." He was excited and I followed him down the street.
He stopped in front of a building on the corner, and we climbed the stairs to number 12. He unlocked the door and there inside was a beautifully furnished little room, with a nice TV and a rocker and the feel of “home."
"This is my place, Peter. Do you like it? Would you like a cup of tea?
We never know how our actions will influenece others in this world, but we do know that they will influence them , and if done with Love..... well, just pause and think of all the possibilities.

Nate, I have to say the Daily Lifts are a truly wonderful window on Love, one that anyone can stick their noses up against and if they like what they see, come in for a cuppa!

Blessings: Individual expressions of good. What a great definition! Counting them is valuing each one.
Remember Bing Crosby's movie, White Christmas? I could never forget his beautiful song, "Count your blessings instead of sheep".
What better time to count our blessings that those long hours when sleep just doesn't come! For years, that quiet time has been my engine of ideas, my best thinking —and solutions— came from those long hours in the dark trying to listen to God.
All the mix of negative things that the media throws at us daily, can easily make us forget the good God sends our way, but if we make a habit of searching for at least one pure idea, in a very quiet moment, we’ll find that one symbol of good that could very well illuminate our experience.
So, let’s really value at least one good idea from infinite Mind, God, this is enough to enrich us and change our perspective way beyond our expectations.

Thank you, Mary, for this beautiful - yet very do-able - idea. When we listen, truly listen, God always gives us just the thought we need. How grateful I have been over the years for this. I find our hymnal is such a rich source of inspiration. It is often the first place I turn for quick inspiration. Always if I ask God first before opening it, to give me the thought I need, inevitably the page I open to is just the message that I need for the rest of the day. Many a situation has been quickly healed by turning to God in this way.
Thank you so much, Peter (#4), for sharing that beautiful story. What immeasurable ripples of Love that sharing will send around the world!
Again, many thanks, Mary, and all contributors.

One pure idea is such a GOOD idea instead of flitting about cramming lots of ideas in, just to calmly concentrate of one and turn it around and savour it is lovely. I must admit i shed tears (of happpiness) upon reading post 4 'Man of the Road' what a wonderful outcome -

Lifter #4 reminded me of a grandmother, our family knew, who called several churches and offered rooms to rent in her 5 bedroom apartment. There was a long list of recovering alcoholics, mostly business executives who needed a home and some home cooking. The grandmother needed the rent monies. Mary Baker Eddy writes, "What blesses one blesses all".
Many made full recoveries and returned to productive, useful lives.
Another man after his recovery, remembered this grandmother's family and sent a large present and a check at Christmas time for many years, to express his gratitude.
Another found employment in a television factory and presented the family with one of the first TV's when they were in short supply.
The idea that "love is reflected in love" is a lasting and powerful truth that is not soon forgotten. Simple but full of power.
Also simple and full of power are all the 'daily lifts'.
Thank you very much.

Mary, this is a lovely Lift! These days there seems to be a multitude of options available, and yet one pure idea lasts for ever. Following the earthquake in Japan earlier this year, and during the Easter weekend, the Prime Minister of Australia, Ms Julia Gillard and members of her government, took a plane full of Australian entertainers, sportspeople and celebrities to Japan where they hosted a dinner for the Japanese Prime Minister and other dignitaries. Four members of the Sydney Omega Ensemble - violin, viola, cello and clarinet - played twice during dinner. The visit was under the auspices of the Australian Embassy as a goodwill gesture. Without a doubt the music and the occasion would have soothed and calmed and inspired the troubled thoughts and feelings of those attending.
Your Daily Lift, Nathan, is certainly one pure idea everyone anticipates, participates in and appreciates, and I feel sure we would stand in the rain - or its equivalent - if we had to. Thanks to the BoL, the lecturers, and the gathered assembly of Daily Lifters.

What a wonderful reminder to 'keep it simple'. One God-given idea can do so much for the recipient and for all his/her thought rests upon. It also touches everyone with whom that person comes in contact with.
Peter - number 4 - a lovely story, proving the wonderful effect that a gesture of Love can have, be it a loving action, a few words and even just a smile. Thank you for sharing it.
I am so grateful to all involved with the Daily Lift.

Thank you, very much Mary, beautifull, and lovely

And thank you Peter #4, not only for sharing your story of reflecting Love, but for carrying through. Also, many thanks to Eric for accepting Peter's gift.

Oh Mary! That is beautiful and I will follow the practice. I find I often wake in the morning with a line from a hymn (CS Hymnal), sometimes one I can't remember singing in church before, and following through the sentiment presented by checking it in the concordance, there is often just the right message needed for the day. And, as you so well say, one statement or idea presented is enough. "day by day the manna fell."
I love that story about Love reflected in love Peter - and thank you for sharing it.

What a lovely lift! Finding one pure idea from God to treasure through the day reminds me of Mom reading some of the CS Bible lesson to us each morning at breakfast before we caught the bus to town for school -- she called it our "spiritual food".
My teacher in Christian Science said to look to the week's Christian Science Bible lesson for a healing idea relative to any need we were working on prayerfully, and guided us into deeper ways to study each lesson topic, such as looking for anything Mary Baker Eddy said to do or not do, underlining action words, or noting when correlative passages came from the chapter on Recapitulation, the Tenets, or the Platform of Christian Science in Science and Health.
On p. 31 of the Church Manual of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., Mrs. Eddy writes of the moral obligation of readers in the Mother Church and branch churches to: "devote a suitable portion of their time to preparation for the reading of the Sunday lesson,-- a lesson on which the prosperity of Christian Science largely depends", and to "keep themselves unspotted from the world." The lesson helps each of us do this.
Daily Lifts offer a virtual reading room window, where one pure idea, like those developed in the lesson, opens out each day. Peter's fine story in #4, and examples of beauty shared in hard times, illustrate Sc&H markers 10 &11 in this week's lesson on Mind, which speak of loving our neighbor, and of the whole family of man being brethren.

Oh, thank you, dear Mary! I love the idea of valuing and treasuring just one pure idea from the Christian Science Bible Lesson each day and then reaping the blessings and fruitage it brings! I just love thinking about how Christian Scientists all over the world are reading the same Lesson each day and taking at least one idea from it and living it out in their lives! Thank you, #32 Ruth, for putting it so well! And a big Hug and Thank You to #4 Peter, for sharing the True Love he experienced with his friend, Eric! This is truly what Christian Science is all about, Love demonstrated in the world with our neighbors! We can have all the money, the technology, the buildings, the websites with which to display our religion, but what Peter did and experienced with Eric is what Mrs. Eddy did every time whe went out in the streets. She shared Divine Love with People and healed them! Oh! May we feel this Love!

Beautiful lift, and Peter's story, well it just lifted me out of my own small world, and shined the Christ light on the human scene for me! You were washing the feet of that man, as Jesus requested of his disciples! What touched me about your story was not that you just prayed from a distance about him, but that you actually demonstrated human affection and caring, and he felt that Christly affection to such a degree that it lifted him up to see his own true identity. "The divinity of the Christ was made manifest in the HUMANITY of Jesus." (my caps) (Science and Health) Thank you, Mary and thank you, Peter and thank you, lifters around the world! That’s a terrific lift.
“Valuing each one”. Doesn’t that perfectly describe God’s love for each of us?
Seeing “one” as perfect, demonstrates the full value of “each one”, therefore “everyone”. And what better “One” to start with than the thought of ourselves, knowing we are one with God, Soul, the "Only One"?
If we expect today to be better than yesterday, we only need to change one thing in our thinking, without being overwhelmed by the seeming multitude of world problems or the infinite manifestation of God’s blessings and being expected to choose the “right one”.
Simply focus on any one pure idea today and allow it to inspire and fill our thought with its full value.
Tomorrow will reflect today’s results and present a new possibility for further change and demonstration, thus perfection.
;-)

Addendum
Recently I decided to use the seven synonyms for God as the basis of my daily metaphysical work, for example:
Sunday – Principle; Monday – Mind; Tuesday – Soul, etc.
On each given day I focus on expressing that synonym in my thoughts, actions and expectations. It really has given me a barometer to check my progress throughout each passing hour and ask myself, how did I do, could I have handled that better, what should I do next time?
It’s a learning process and each week I build on last week’s results making each daily experience a little better.
If “Sorrow” and “Trials” never leaves us where it finds us (S&H 66), just imagine how much more Love elevates us as we build, daily, upon spiritual foundations?
Now that’s really a “Daily Lift”!!!
;-)

Just what I needed to hear today. With so many ideas clamoring for our attention, what a great reminder to focus on one pure idea and to cherish and live it.
Thanks also to Peter #4. A very moving story of "beholding the perfect man" where a disheveld, downtrodden, homeless person "appeared to mortals". Your "correct view of man" transformed his life. Thanks, Mary. The other day was my first day volunteering in our Reading Room. As I sat back and looked at all the books around me, I suddenly felt overwhelmed with how much studying and reading I still had to do. No way, I thought, will I be able to learn everything.
But today's Lift helped remind me that a single pure idea is all that is needed for healing. I can trust God will lead me to the right idea at the right time.

Thank you, Mary, for your contribution today.
Your Lift was exactly on target with something that happened to me this morning. I woke early to lovely, healing thoughts of Truth. They were familiar ones - favorite passages from the Bible. Then quietly, a wonderful, fresh thought came and has stayed with me all morning. It was a message that I needed to hear regarding a situation I've been working on for quite some time. It was one pure thought.
I look forward each day to the DL and everyone who contributes.

Thank you for this inspiration to concentrate on one idea at a time. I find my self reading the the Bible lesson and periodicals, from cover to cover, one article after another. I am momentarily inspired, and I do find many things to aid in my spiritual growth. But, I now will be more alert to one idea a day to treasure. I think of "precept upon precept". As a young woman I used to feel frustrated by all there is to learn about Christian Science. I came to the conclusion that I don't need it all at the same time, that I need just one idea to live each day. Once through that day, I will add another inspiration to treasure, building a library of treasures.
4. Peter. Thank you. I have been praying for a means to aid the homeless in our area. Friends tell me they don't see any homeless. I tell that they are out there, but society tells them to hide from their view, that they are not welcome, or that they are not worthy. Your action inspires me to look to what I can do to help just one.
The Daily lift has been an example of one day at a time growth. Thank you all.

My cup runneth over. The simple wisdom of your Lift, Mary was enough. Thanks! I was sure it would be my 1 pure idea for today. Then I read Comments. #4 Peter has me still crying with awe, love, and gratitude. I can hardly see to type this. Am I more grateful for someone like him loving exquisitely on an ordinary day, or for his sharing the story with us? That's 3 pure ideas to cherish, and I'm supposed to have one. Next, as I read #6 Courtney's request his story be published for others to see, I planned to type,”I second Courtney's motion”, but #9 Circles-of-light essentially did, so it's ready for vote, and I say ,”Yea!” I think I read more”Yeas”. That wasn't all. #14, Uncle John (our Lift family has an uncle!) told another story of pure love. The Lift focuses on a war-time story, and reminded me of one we heard way back. Orphans in institutions had previously been hungry and war weary, but couldn't sleep. The solution was each was given a piece of bread at bedtime, and instead of eating it, they clutched it in their little hands and slept. The bread represented security and supply to them. It was one pure idea they cherished. I'm wrapping all this in a mental “napkin” to hold close and cherish the sum total of one pure idea. I'll tuck in later comments, too. I think my one pure idea expanded- not just this Lift, but the whole concept and presentation of all the Daily Lifts. My 1 idea grew almost too big to hold! I didn't follow directions.

Thanks to Mary for the "one thought" concept that will not burden us in our daily thinking about any and all subjects and ideas!
Thanks to #4 for the lovely story...what a great example of PURE love...and the Christly concept!
Thanks to all that contribute their comments each day to the Daily Lift and thanks to everyone that makes these Daily Lifts possible! (Love the child-like voice at the end!)

Thank you Mary. So simple and true. I think that Peter's recollection (see #4) is the perfect example of love reflecting Love. As Peter removed the shoes and socks of this dear man, I could just see Jesus washing the disciple's feet and how that must have felt to them. The purity of thought that led Peter to this act of love, is present for all of us - all of the time. And the change that was effected in the other man's life was indicative of his thougth being lifted above the material to the purity of Spirit. Thank you both for sharing.

Thank you so much Mary.and thank you also to number #4 which i am sure I have heard somewhere before. (The World Healing Crusade?)I had been praying that we could have more testimonies to the efficacy of Truth and its actual outworking in our lives. And here it was. The outworking of the Law of Love! And it really touched the hearts of so many of us. Thank you very very much

Wow, thank you Mary and thank you all who shared to make this lift so special and inspirational. You can just feel our hearts singing with gladness and gratitude for the active presence of the Christ that has been and always will be available to all. When our hearts feel the warmth and light of Christly affection, whether giving or receiving love, the outcome must be and will always be good. Mary Baker Eddy says in S&H with Key to the Scriptures on page 147, "A pure affection takes form in goodness, and Science alone reveals the divine Principle of goodness, and demonstrates its rules." This is a definite rule discovered my MBE in Christian Science. It so clearly links the human experience with the Divine which is so eloquently and clearly stated in "The Lord's Prayer" with it's spiritual interpretation given in S&H by MBE. In short it clearly affirms that "Love is reflected in love". We just can't help but feel and express God's love for us and for all.
Blessings to all!

Thanks Mary, one pure idea penetrates every consciousness and blesses every single one of them, simply because God is Mind and He gives us this pure idea and many, many others. Christian Science has helped me as many others to realize how simple it is to find solutions to problems using pure ideas. Thanks also to # 4 Peter, who made me feelso good with a simple, real expression of love for our fellow man. And divine Love blessed both.

Lovely Lift and Lovely responses!
When I first saw the long message from #4, I thought "oh, no...it's too long to read" but an angel thought said to me "read it"! I'm so grateful I did. What a wonderful story! Thank you #4 for sharing it and reinforcing the importance of "going the extra mile" to help someone in need. It's so easy to look away rather than step in and offer love and assistance.
How I LOVE these Daily Lifts!!

Thank you, Thank you, all you wonderful people. Today is "full of blessings". Mary, your telling of the National Gallery's placing the painting to uplift the Londoner's hope and your idea " one good thought" to love & heal mankind was so welcome. Peter's (#4) loving story, Elena's (#10) " Count your blessing's, Ruth's (#32) "0ne from the lesson" and Michael's (#56) " a synonym a day" gave such good ideas. Peter and all show so clearly the reflection of "God's being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss" S&H 481. All evidence of " The Christ is here, all dreams of error breaking,Unloosing bounds of all captivity". Hym.202

- 8/18/2011The “Man of the Road"
David

- 8/18/2011Blessings: Individual expressions of good.

- 8/18/2011Thank you, Mary, for this beautiful - yet very do-able - idea.

- 8/18/2011One pure idea is such a GOOD idea instead of flitting about cramming lots of ideas in, just to calmly concentrate of one and turn it around and savour it is lovely. I must admit i shed tears (of happpiness) upon reading post 4 'Man of the Road' what a wonderful outcome -

- 8/18/2011Lifter #4 reminded me of a grandmother, our family knew, who called several churches and offered rooms to rent in her 5 bedroom apartment.

- 8/18/2011Mary, this is a lovely Lift!

- 8/18/2011Thank you Mary for today's "One Pure Idea" which is Love reflecting itself.
And thank you Peter #4, not only for sharing your story of reflecting Love, but for carrying through. Also, many thanks to Eric for accepting Peter's gift.

- 8/18/2011Oh Mary!

- 8/18/2011What a lovely lift!

- 8/18/2011Oh, thank you, dear Mary!

- 8/18/2011Peter: # 4-- You made me cry tears of love. LOVE is reflected in Love!
"Pay it Forward". The Lift today to grasp one idea of good and know the good that comes from the inspired thought, is precious.

- 8/18/2011THE BEAUTIFUL TESTIMONY #4 BROUGHT TEARS IN MY EYES. THAT WAS VERY INSPIRING. WE NEED TO LEARN AND EXERCISE OUR PRACTISE OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE EVEN IN OUR SMALLEST ACTIONS. "LET'S TREASURE ONE GOOD IDEA TODAY" !

- 8/18/2011This is a wonderful lift. And the comment from Peter lifter #4 is truly inspiring. The man in the story not only loved the homeless in seeing his a the reflection of God, but held out his hand to give him a lift. I could feel the love his coming through my computer screen.

- 8/18/2011Wonderful! The thought/idea I will cherish today is "GOD IS MY STRENGTH". "A VERY PRESENT HELP IN TROUBLE".

- 8/18/2011Beautiful lift, and Peter's story, well it just lifted me out of my own small world, and shined the Christ light on the human scene for me! You have made my day!

- 8/18/2011Thank you Mary! Look what this one pure idea has brought out in the sharing and stories of so many in the Lift family,
such as #4.

Love in action. LOVE is reflected in love.
And it keeps on growing.
Just that one pure spiritual thought -- treasured, and put into action.

- 8/18/2011That’s a terrific lift.
Tomorrow will reflect today’s results and present a new possibility for further change and demonstration, thus perfection.
;-)

- 8/18/2011Mary, thank you for the Lift you have given / inspired us with today. And, thank you to all those who shared their ideas and continued on with lifting us higher. Striving always to put this into practice; a grateful heart indeed.......

- 8/18/2011Thank you Mary for the lovely ideas this morning on cherishing and valuing one single idea and staying with that thought. Sometimes when I feel there is so much to remember, I recall am angel message telling me not to be concerned with remembering, but only being.
Thank you #4 for sharing that beautiful story.

- 8/18/2011Addendum
Now that’s really a “Daily Lift”!!!
;-)
Lovely thought.

- 8/18/2011Thank you Marie for you refreshing Lift today.

- 8/18/20114 comment makes me think of the biblical admonition to entertain strangers;
This strikes me as the reverse.... the angel was Peter, and his kindness, given out of love and compassion changed this man's life. Never overlook the chance to do good, and Thank you for this wonderful Lift

- 8/18/2011"One pure idea." thanks Mary for the thought of not so much reaching and grabbing for this thought and that, but living One pure idea. Being church alive. Thanks Peter and everyone for these uplifting comments.

- 8/18/2011Just what I needed to hear today.
May we all have the courage and love to look beyond appearance and see and ACT with this same love and courage to reach out to all in compassion who cross our path each day.

- 8/18/2011Oh Mary. This is a real "keeper"...this and ALL today's comments and stories. How very grateful I am to the Aussie Voice in our Movement; I loved learning about your dear Prime Minister (comment #17) ministering to Japan in its hour of need, in a precious way, lifting the spirit ; hearing the courage, fortitude and love in your voices through your remarks......it reminds me of a "younger America." ... While my beloved Country is currently involved in a fight to maintain its democratic ideals and decency, I humbly thank you for your voices.

- 8/18/2011Thanks, Mary.

- 8/18/2011Wonderful idea! One pure thought leads to purity of every thought -- I will use the Concordances to find all the "thoughts" associated with this pure thought -- and the ideas, or thoughts, are infinite!
How unemcumbered with mortal mind we can be when we focus on one pure, infinte idea from our Father-Mother God. Thank you Mary, Nate, the BOL, and all of the Responders throughout the world who give us daily feasts, and lifts, and love!

- 8/18/2011Thank you, Mary, for your contribution today.

- 8/18/2011Thank you for this inspiration to concentrate on one idea at a time.

- 8/18/2011My cup runneth over.

- 8/18/2011Thanks to Mary for the "one thought" concept that will not burden us in our daily thinking about any and all subjects and ideas!
Thanks to #4 for the lovely story...what a great example of PURE love...and the Christly concept!
Thanks to all that contribute their comments each day to the Daily Lift and thanks to everyone that makes these Daily Lifts possible! (Love the child-like voice at the end!)

- 8/18/2011Thank you Mary.

- 8/18/2011Thank you so much Mary.and thank you also to number #4 which i am sure I have heard somewhere before. (The World Healing Crusade?)I had been praying that we could have more testimonies to the efficacy of Truth and its actual outworking in our lives. And here it was. The outworking of the Law of Love! And it really touched the hearts of so many of us. Thank you very very much

- 8/18/2011Mary, you've reminded me to tell myself "DON'T MAKE IT HARD!"

- 8/19/2011Thanks Mary, one pure idea penetrates every consciousness and blesses every single one of them, simply because God is Mind and He gives us this pure idea and many, many others. Christian Science has helped me as many others to realize how simple it is to find solutions to problems using pure ideas. Thanks also to # 4 Peter, who made me feelso good with a simple, real expression of love for our fellow man. And divine Love blessed both.

- 8/19/2011Lovely Lift and Lovely responses!

- 8/19/2011Thank you, Thank you, all you wonderful people. Hym.202
