5/2: Guided by God

5/2: Guided by God

  1. Questions? Ideas? Feedback? Please send them to dailylift@christianscience.com so that we can respond.

A quick tip! Please note that one of our Comment Guidelines says: Due to copyright laws, don't submit the full content of songs, hymns, poems, letters, etc.

    Thanks!

  2. How appropriate since we received word after almost 10 years of searching for Bin Laden, with numerous obstacles, our dedicated military never gave up and found him. Our presidency never gave up. And fear and hatred are conquered. Thank you for this daily lift, to go forward, listening to God's direction, with courage and trust.

  3. Sometimes on my way home from work in the afternoon, I would stop at my neighbors house and we would have a little tea party. As we were sipping tea and visiting, she mentioned that someone had given her a new drape for a large patio door. Where is it I asked, in the closet was the reply. Without giving it too much thought I found a little stool and took the old drape down. Then I grabbed the new one and and there was the new drape. This was not the first experience hanging draperies.
I went back to my tea and my friend mentioned that she was absolutely overwhelmed at the prospect of hanging that drape. In sincerity, I replied that I was overwhelmed with the solution.
Then it occurred to me, why could I not be overwhelmed with answers to every problem that came my way? Jesus must have been overwhelmed with the idea of walking on the water.

  4. Thanks for the lift.

  5. Thank you Ulrike, I was feeling quite daunted today with studying and have gotten up from my desk and found other things to do instead of confronting what I believed to be an obstacle. I am now enthused to 'work' through this puzzle as you have 'walked' through yours. Many thanks again for your inspiration and God's.

  6. Thank You, I needed this rihgt now! Wondering what to do with big problems - let God guide! Have a nice Day.

  7. What a wonderful analogy with a perfect message: let God guide you and just keep walking right on through! Danke schoen, Ulrike!

  8. The best advice I ever heard is, “Go right through life with the absolute conviction that God will guide you through all obstacles. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted by any disturbances, reach your goal, let yourself be guided by God and go right through.”
MBE explains: “Self renunciation of all that constitutes a so-called material man, and the acknowledgment and achievement of his spiritual identity as the child of God, is Science that opens the very flood-gates of heaven; whence good flows into every avenue of being, cleansing mortals of all uncleanness, destroying all suffering, and demonstrating the true image and likeness. There is no other way under heaven whereby we can be saved, and man be clothed with might, majesty, and immortality.” Mis. 185:7
“If one lives rightly, every effort to hurt one will only help that one; for God will give the ability to overcome whatever tends to impede progress” Misc. 115:25

  9. Thank you. This is just what I needed this morning.

  10. Thank you Ulrika
what a clever analogy! so helpful and it touched my heart.

  11. Such an inspiring Lift - thank you so much!

  12. What a powerful message this is, thank you, Ulrike. A message I will pass on to a member of my family who appears to be facing a mountainous challenge. I will tell them to be courageous and walk right on, trusting that
God will show them the way.

  13. That was a very inspiring idea. Thank you.

  14. Thank you. This lift is so helpful and also it is one that will be easy to remember in times when needed. I am very grateful.

  15. Thank you Ulrike, for this really great Lift. At one time I just loved touring on my bicycle. People asked me "How could you ride so far every day?" And I said "I never did. I just cycled the kilometre in front of me." At the end of the day I could look back at the road and the hills and set up camp. The moment we turn to God we are guided by love.

3 John w, what a knight in shining armour you are! A British gentleman through and through!

  16. What an excellent daily lift once again! I'm always asking God to please guide me and God is always there.

  17. Thank you for this demonstration for the benefit of those behind you. It has applied to my own experience when in school, learning to ski or roll a kayak or rappel down a Mississippi River Bluff, for example.
It is so much easier when we are guided. I love what the Apostle Paul says along these lines, Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

  18. I love this example of God's constant, comforting accompaniment of all of us through challenge. It is so timely, as today I start a new job! Thank you, Ulrike!

  19. Great, just go and dont fall down - if guided by GOOD.
    Thank Your Uli

  20. Amazing how the Daily Lift so often corresponds to my preoccupation/fear of the moment and gives the answer! It's always the same answer of course - how could God change?? - but I for one, always need to be reminded of it. Many thanks, Ulrike.

  21. Thank you Ulrike for that inspiring lift. Yes, "just walk on through." "And peace shall crown your joy-filled day./ Come, walk with Love along the way." (Christian Science Hymnal #139).

  22. This I will hold to all day, all week, always. Thank you.

  23. Good morning,

God, good and love of mankind has stilled error, the walking through trusted to the integrity of courage. Love reflecting Love. The judicious stones of David have prevailed. As Mrs Eddy tells us on p. 340(S&H), "....annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed".

Thank you Ulrike for your lifting thoughts.

  24. Dear Ulrike, Thank you so much for this inspiring lift! Face the foe, be unimpressed and go forward with God guiding and governing. Be about your Father's business and proceed unafraid. Good advice! Thanks! Love, Lorrie

  25. Thank you, exactly what I needed to hear this morning, thank you! !!
    Much appreciation,
    Lisa

  26. A beautiful lift. Thank you. "With God all things are possible."

  27. Thank you for this clear example Ulrike.
I remember walking through a barrel at an amusement park and discovering that if I kept going I didn't turn up side down. We can "walk thou with courage each step of the way". and possess the "Grace to go forward, wherever He guide thee" (Christian Science Hymnal 278). And Margaret #15, I used to belong to a biking group and with an infant seat on the back, cycle with my toddler long distances at times. We took it one mile, one hill at a time.

  28. Thank you for that wonderful thought!

  29. Oh Ulrike, thank you so much for giving us this encouraging direction!

  30. I am reminded of Psalm 23: "Yea, though I walk THROUGH the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:" Don't stop in there either!

  31. Thank you very much. Very powerful msg.

  32. Thank you-- helpful!

  33. Dear Ulrika, what a profound message. Thank you so much.

  34. Thank you, thank you for that wonderful inspiration! I love that you said to gather all your courage first. That's like pausing to wait on God and letting the Christ proceed you as you face any challenge. Then you have that conviction that nothing can distract you from your goal. What a great reminder! Thanks!

  35. Thank you for that great Lift Ulrick..very encouraging.

  36. Thank you so much. What a wonderful message! Everyone gets so busy and caught up in the every day and this simple direction brings us back to the straight and narrow. Thank you again!!

  38. Thank you for this very timely lift. Yesterday in church a young teacher confided in me that she was very distressed with her job. I was surprised by her attitude because she had worked so hard to get her degree after having two teenage daughters. I told her that the school system needs good people like her.....now I can write her a note and give her your very timely msg. Thank you.

  39. Thanks, Uli! "When you walk thru a storm, hold your head up high....." - and the Bible talks about walking thru the fire or when the waters overflow thee, I will be with thee. Fear tries to make us stop and look at it, tries to rise up like a wall in front of us, but as we keep walking thru, we see it for what it is, really just an illusion of material sense. The announcement of Osama bin Laden's demise last night is so symbolic of the defeat of the illusion of error or (T)error. Terror, or Fear made active, only has the power we give to it by bowing down to it and worshipping it. We can face it head on and defeat it with courage and persistance and with never giving in to it's supposed power. Hooray for Victory today!

  40. What a wonderful lift! Just right for me today. And my special thanks, too, to #3 John W. -- also perfect for me to hear today.

  41. The timing of this Lift was wonderful because it's been a day (I'm in a different time-zone) when I have been overwhelmed with legal, bureaucratic, and personal issues that have my head spinning. "Be still and know that I am God", has come to me repeatedly and this lovely Lift, with it's message of courage has helped so much. Thank you.

  42. thank you thank you GOD--I'M WALKING NOW-----

  43. Danke Uli ! It's simple advice, very simple. But how important it is never to forget to listen for that "still, small voice of Truth, God" before we make decisions and move. He guides us and protects us each step of the way, if we listen. I have always regretted not doing this, and thinking i knew better!
God loves us all, and directs our every step when we acknowledge Him!

  44. Thank you Ulrike. I am really inspired by your words.
I work for my Father, His business is to guide the world through the valley of false . beliefs, without a pause. He demands that we work out our own salvation and walk on through the valley, don't look right or left, keep your goal always before you, it may seem difficult but you are never alone when leaning on the sustaining infinite. My business is not to interfere, to examine my thoughts and keep them pure. I don't need any rest from my work. It gives me peace and strength as I follow my Leader as she followed Christ Jesus.

  45. This was just what I needed today, with the fear of an important paper deadline looming over me. I am also finding Hymn 195 very helpful. It starts out, "Not what I am, O Lord, but what thou art . . . Thy love, not mine, bids fear and doubt depart, / And stills the tumult of my troubled breast." This encouragement to let go of individual ego and attribute all to God is so comforting. It continues on: "I work and pray, and follow still my guide, / And fear no foe, escaping every snare. . . . I lean on Thee, in weakness I am strong." Thank you!

  46. Ulrike, what a great way to start the day. As we walk through life, we are GUIDED BY GOD...every single moment of every single day

  47. Very helpful. Thanks a bunch.

  48. Thank you Ulrika. How comforting, just walk right on through! No hestitation for fear to sneak only enough for the Christ to go before us.

  49. Thanks #2 Anonymous for the heads up about Osama Bin Laden.

Removing Osama in this way is, well, the "lesser of two evils". Moral evil has no legitimate place in Love, and death has no part of Life. I am compelled to think about our troops again. They can walk right through this spinning barrel because God has their back, whispers to them "My kingdom". Promotion guaranteed!

  50. Danke sehr, Ulrike. A wonderful analogy with a perfect lesson. And gracias, Elena (#8), for the reminder of Eddy's words on page 185 of "Miscellaneous Writings".

  51. Thank you Ulrike!

  52. Never having walked through a rotating barrel, I can't relate to doing that, ha. But I can relate to the fact that when we sincerely turn to God for guidance, get human will and attempted reasoning out of the way, we get the answers we need to heal whatever situation presents itself. We are mentally guided through whatever steps we need to take. I have had a couple of scary personal experiences long ago where pray to God protected me and guided me to safety. Thanks lifters for your responses too.

  53. Thank you, Ulrike! I love that example of going forward. Too often, we "ruminate," which means to turn over and over in the mind. We have no mind apart from God to stall us in our forward movements of progress and joy. and John Kent...thank you, too! I love your expression of being "overwhelmed with the solution." My, I will take that forward with me. Yowsa! That is wonderful!

  54. Thank you Ulrika. You dear words reminded me of something that was shared with me many years ago when I felt so alone, yet searching for God.A wise friend said, "Acknowledge Him".
I suddenly realized I could acknowledge God with me as I went through all the experiences of my day.The difference in peace and care I came to feel was indescribable-filled with love!

  55. Thank you, Ulrike, and thank you all. This is exactly what I needed this morning. How could one not have a beautiful day after this inspiring message and the thoughtful comments that follow!

  56. Truth is so . . . TRUE - thank you, Ulrika, for stating so clearly that our focus is GOD, not the turning, distracting material evidence, and the path before us is lit with the light of Truth. Thank you, John #3, for your very enlightening comment, "I was overwhelmed with the solution." I see for the first time how the Christ can come to us - overwhelming us with the solution, the peace, the love.

    Overwhelmed by graditude

  57. This is a wonderful reminder! God is always there for you and will always guide you in the right direction. You are always in your right place. Thank you so much!!

  58. Thank you Ulrike,
Your Inspired message you shared is just what I needed! Thank you!

  59. Thank you very much Ulrike.

  60. "Just walk right through." Reminds me of "Through the Love of God our Saviour, all will be well." No dams or obstructions. No real barriers, only apparent ones which cannot impede our forward motion. A Very Good reminder! Thank you muchly.

  61. BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  62. The Bible verse from JOSHUA I - 9. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afaid, neither thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whither soever thou goest. I pray for our soldiers and realize how courageous they are. Thank you dear ones. Be strong and very courageous! We love you.

  63. Thank you so much...just what was needed today!

  64. My profound thanks to you. No distractions -- no rotating barrels to block my path or pull me off the straight and narrow. God is indeed our ever-present guide.

  65. Thank you Ulrike Prinz. It sounds like fun to walk through a rotating barrel, and the lesson seems to be to keep moving forward. And that's an important spiritual lesson. Don't stop. Take the next step.

  66. Thank you so much for the lift today. I remember as a child going through the rotating barrel at an amusement park. It was certainly easy when I kept my eye on the target and was not distracted by the rotation of the barrel but could step firmly through even though the barrel was turning. Thank you for the insight in keeping our eye on God as our guide.

  67. I'm so grateful to you, Ulrika, for encouraging me to be guided by God.
With courage, I finally told my husband and grown children that I discontinued taking my doctor recommended medications and have been relying on God only for healing.

  68. What a precious lift for me this morning! I am facing what would appear to be an undaunting obstacle, as I move forward in helping a loved one to progress. I have been following that "whisper in the ear" which has led me to this point, even though the human scene is raising quite a fuss. Bless you for this timely message, it is just what I needed to persevere by continuing to walk forward, as God has been guiding and will continue to guide all of us "RIGHT THROUGH" TO HIS/HER GLORIOUS CONCLUSION.

  69. While I am grateful that Osama Bin Laden is out of the picture and has come to a close, I can't help but see the parallel between that whole situation and many of the stories in the Old Testament! Same horrible descriptions, same nasty events - even simiilar physical locations! We need to keep raising our thought and keeping our eyes fastened on Jesus' perfect pattern!

  70. Ulrika, I loved that you shared how the person behind you in line whispered to just walk on through. And, you listened with courage. That's like us having the joy of expecting to hear Divine guidance and then willingly listening to "the still small voice" of Truth in every situation that seems like a chaotic turning barrel. Also, commenting on the Osama Bin laden comments, I like to remind myself that death is never a solution and evil is not person or personal. I was so touched years ago when teaching a Sunday School class, when a child suggested during one session that we could pray for Goliath. Thanks everyone from all around the world. So much healing inspiration from these sharings.

  71. What a powerful and lovely Lift Ulrika! It was exactly what I needed to hear today. Thank you so much!

  72. That's excellent! We should just walk on through. I'll remember that. Thank you!

  73. I would love to encourage anyone struggling with the temptation to feel good about Bin Laden's killing, to research the word "revenge" as used in Science and Health.
    Here are a few:
    405:5
    327:8
    22:27-32

Peace and love are alone victorious!

  74. Thanks Urike, no wonder Jesus taught with parables-they are so vivid. Thank you John K for -'over whelmed with the solution'. When I was 3 or 4 yrs. old. An older child was trying to teach me how to ride sitting on the handle bars of their bike with my feet on the front fender. They yelled at me to stop 'steering'or we would fall down. I had no idea what 'steering' was. I finally figured out if I made myself one with the handlebars and held evenly with both hands on each side, turning which ever way the handlebars went, I didn't do this terrible thing called 'steering'. I have thought of this often as a comparison to being guided by God. Just hold tight to the handlebars, focus on the fact that we express God's qualities because He made us capable of doing it. We only do this. We do nothing else. "destroy the foe and leave the field to God" as Mrs. Eddy says in S& H. Clearing the field is God's job of steering. Thank you all so much for your comments. I was feeling very afraid this morning and am uplifted.

  75. Moving forward, never doubting God's directions. It is the only way to go!

  76. Thank you so much Urlik and all the Daily Lifters for your Pearls of Wisdom. I am so grateful for MBE and for her "beliefs about the nature of man's existance and the power of prayer to heal."

  77. You bring back memories, Ulrike, of great fun at a now long-gone local amusement park, where there was a Fun House packed with all kinds of "adventures." The barrel walk in that Fun House was a little challenging to start with (I was probably about six or seven years of age), but my dad was walking with me, holding my hand and coaching me right along. When he had shown me how, he let me try on my own, still available to assist if it was required. It wasn't long at all before I had complete dominion and that barrel became one of my favorite things in the Fun House.

This puts me in mind of how grateful we can be that our loving heavenly Father walks with us every step, sending His loving angels to guide our feet, coach us along the way. He shows us that we do, in fact, have dominion over what our eyes (and all the deceptive material senses) might fool us into thinking was difficult, or even dangerous. The spin of the mortal thought's view simply cannot knock us down nor render us helpless when we keeping walking His way, listening every step for God's perfect guidance, putting our feet down on solid spiritual ground. By experience, we learn to have confidence in His guidings and trust our God-given dominion. It means we are just as sure-footed, unconquerable and fearless as He is, because as His image and likeness, we reflect all the qualities of His kingdom, power and glory!

  78. I am so glad I came back in and read what #73 had to say. I read the citations from S&H and realize how much we need those words. Thank you so much. Revenge is not the answer.

  79. I really like this lift.

The courage you describe reminds me of the way the author of Science and Health describes moral courage, as " 'the lion of the tribe of Judah,' the kind of the mental realm. Free and fearless it roams in the forest. Undisturbed it lies in the open field, or rests in 'green pastures...beside the still waters' " (p. 514)

You were like a lion walking "free and fearless" through the seemingly scary, upsetting rotating barrel, Ulrike!

Bless you, #73, for the gentle admonition, supported by those three S&H citations, that "peace and love alone are victorious."

These statements by Mary Baker Eddy helped me this morning on the same subject -- about evil never being person -- but they also apply to this DL about evil not being in a moving barrel!

    Miscellaneous Writings, p. 190 and 285
    No and Yes, p. 24
    Message for 1901, p. 12
    People's Idea of God, p. 4

  80. This was an outstanding help. I have taken on tasks in a new field, and staying close to my books, also. And dithering was mentally confusing, but when the occasions to act came, one after another each had its answer, and left me feeling confident and happy, and grateful. Thank you!

  81. 79 - your reading list is absolutely superb! I really thank you!

  82. Hello Daily Lift Family
Thank you for all the comments
    and Thank you Ulrike

I just loved this thought of being alert, fearless, composed,
listening to God’s direction, and looking
where I am going and moving forward.
Love it, love it, love it!!!!
    Progress and purpose!

You made me think where am I going
    what are my goals (goal)?
To heal, to help, to love, to support, to bless,
to be ready and willing, to give, to promote Christian Science!
    Love my neighbor..bless mankind!
    (to hang curtains DL#3)
    :)
    WOW!
    Thank you again Ulrike

    S&H 264:4
We must look where we would walk, and we must act as possessing all power from Him in whom we have our being.

    S&H 426:5
The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it. When the destination is desirable, expectation speeds our progress. The struggle for Truth makes one strong instead of weak, resting instead of wearying one.

  83. Thank you also to Daily Lifter #79
    I agree with Nancy DL#81
    Your readings were just fantastick!
Thank you for taking the time to post....such a help
    :)

and yes she was like a lion walking “free and fearless" through the seemingly scary, upsetting rotating barrel

I will share that thought with many a freind

  84. I am not at all sure about this wonderful Daily Lift being linked to events in the Middle east. It reminds me of this quote by Martin Luther King...

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." - Martin Luther King Jr

I love to be guided by divine Love, to love more spiritually, in ways that heal our seeming broken world, and to see God's creation in the past, present and future with a love that knows no hate.

  85. Thanks so much. This says a good deal about keeping from being distracted by fear or other kinds of suggestions of limitations.

    Great image to think about.

  86. What excellent advice, Ulrike! Thank you very much.

  87. Thank you, Ulrike, for that clear and powerful message. I love it!

Thank you too to No.s 73 and 79 for those words of love. We must always be alert not to name error/evil. It is no person, place or thing. As soon as we believe in an evil person we have fallen for the Adam dream - belief in a power or mind apart from God. There is none; God is all. The world needs us to know this. We celebrate only the destruction of the belief in evil. This comes when we see that it never was.

  88. Thank you Deborah, that is very edifying. Evil has no personification and no place - in a person, a religion, or a country.

  89. Thank you Ulrike for this helpful Lift. And thank you No. 84 for Martin Luther King's quote.

  90. Lovely, thank you!

  91. Thanks for this wonderful inspiring Lift. It has lifted me from the challenge in which I find myself today. I am awakened to the fact that, God, "Divine Love alone governs man." Thanks I will listen for God's direction along the way and walk through. Again, thanks.

  92. Thankyou so much for reminding that we must go on fearleely, relying on HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  93. Yesterday as I was loading on the daily lift, my laptop ran out of power. Today as I was feeling really stressed out, I restarted my laptop, and before the computer had booted up I was hearing that God could lead me through any situation.....even serious situations...THANK YOU, I need that. The calm and comfort I felt was immediate and I will walk with God for the rest of the day.

  94. Oh my! Advice straight from God!! How often it comes in just the right way at the right time. Thank you soooo much. Of course the timing was perfect for me to hear this. Surprise... Thank you.

  95. Many thanks, I am learning to leave my opinions aside and listen to the guidance and voice of divine Love, my only GOD.

    en español
Muchas gracias, estoy aprendiendo a dejar mis opiniones a un lado y escuchar la guía y la voz del Amor divino, mi único Dios.

  96. god is so cool
