This is our last Lift on the Beatitudes from Matthew chapter 5 in the Bible.

Thanks for such a beautiful summarising message that encapsulates all ghe Beatitudes. My grandchildren enjoy a picture book I have that is based on an African story about how a new baby is given its own song at birth by its parents. This song is taught to the whole community. As the child grows up, it can identify its unique song. If the child ever does anything immoral, unlike its genuine character, the community sings the song to this one so he or she can recognise what is true about them and reform their character. I love your idea, Chet, that Jesus has shown us how to be in harmony with ourselves and each other. We are God's song.

What a great lift to wrap up the Beatitudes! Song of Scripture = spirit of Scripture = love's song or spiritual sheet music. This lovely audio piece is a note on a heavily scale... Love is flowing.... Thanks so much
Here are some lyrics for hearts desiring to sing - for Aurora, Syria, & others:
There is no law of sin and death;
There is no warrior gene.
We step in the light as we heed its glow;
Protected from the darkness sometimes felt.
We seek to bless as we engage to love;
Nurturing His children below, and serving our Father above.
Thank you, Chet, for the idea of spiritual sheet music for the songs and "be-attitudes" in our hearts.

My husband has just reminded me, on hearing this, there is a book called 'the lovesong of the universe' - such a great title, and seems to fit today's Lift. The idea of singing and harmonising with Jesus teachings, especially the Beatitudes is such a beautiful way to conclude this series. Thank you all so much.

The letter of the Beatitudes seem to have its basis in the melody of the 10 Commandments, each one is a note in the heavenly scale.
We sing this sweet, powerful song, loving God above anything else and accepting the 10 Commandments as our own, knowing that with them the whole humanity will be blessed.

Many thanks Chet for pointing out the beautiful link between the beatitudes and the ten commandments. "To love God with all our heart and soul and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves." (Christian Science Hymnal #180).

WOW! What a gift, Chet! The Commandments and Beatitudes are really special for each of us, and everyone. They come in two sizes: a gentle hum and a full scale anthem with symphony orchestra and vocal accompaniment. Thank you to the Production team, and the Board of Lectureship, and those lecturers who took part during this month. And flowers for everyone who contributed their thoughts and precious innermost feelings. I always feel these generous outpourings of joy and gratitude must make a significant difference to the people of the world even if the change isn't seen to awaken the world immediately. The difference will be seen and noticed.
Goodnight everyone, and see you all next week.

Thanks Chet,
Growing up, I loved the Lessons on Love as they seemed easy to understand. They were also the easiest to share with a friend. As I grew up I realized they were the hardest to live in their purest sense; not because I did not want to, but to be able to IMMEDIATELY replace thoughts of being wronged, displaced, angered, bothered etc, with love was/is not that easy. I still have much to do.
Christ Jesus healed the man's ear that Peter had cut of; that alerted me to my minutely duty to love, forgive, love, pray & love. The foundation of it all, is our understanding of our relationship to God; He is The Source of our strength, sustenance & direction.
All that I have ever lost, has been replaced many times with spiritual understanding, growth inspiration & strength. As Mrs. Eddy writes "loss is gain" leaving the material for the spiritual.
Daily I try to be alert to my duty. A few years ago a group of us were in the city photographing it when I became aware of a dove looking for some water. I got it, walked to the dove, stretched my hand out and it came and drank. I had not realized that many people stopped to observe the dove coming to me and drinking. One guy walked up and said he needed that moment and thanked me.
True love promotes growth; as we must always prove "that higher selfhood" (hymn 66/421). I make a lot of mistakes, but I seek forgiveness, learn, change and try to love & be joyous
Chet, DL Team, ALL, thank you for these last two weeks!

The Beatitudes embrace such pure, wonderful, and guiding ideas ,and to think of them as a song lifts our understanding of God's love for us even higher. What a perfect metaphor you gave us Chet. I was feeling sorry that the Beatitudes lift series were coming to an end. I savored each day and looked forward to the next, knowing the lecturer would make fundamental truths more profound for us. But the way you wrapped it up just leaves us soaring in love and song about our benevolent and awesome God as well as cherishing one another. All the lifters bring their harmony to this song as well with heartfelt stories and insights.
There was a time last winter when I was sick, and the beauty of a song broke the mesmerism. It was the healing moment. God's expression through music can be very powerful. Again I love how you brought song to the Beatitudes.
We are so blessed and can be exceedingly glad, as Nancy #35 just wrote. So exceedingly glad!! And so exceedingly blessed!

"Do you read music or just play it by ear?"
There is a quote, often attributed to Bob Dylan who, when asked if he could read music, replied, "Not enough to hurt my playin’".
I used to identify myself as an ex-musician and was often asked to join other musicians in a "jam" session. Sure it was a lot of fun, but everyone was just doing their own thing, sometimes leading, sometimes following, but without direction. We often got into a jam instead.
That's the same experience we have in life, in church, or anywhere else when we feel we have enough personal wisdom, skill, experience and talent just to "wing" it or improvise as we go along. Isn't it funny that while we may think we're pretty good, those listening or watching in the audience may have a very different opinion of our performance.
Gaining experience, though the process of trial and error, is no way to become an accomplished performer in any field of endeavor. None of us are solo artists, but perform best and most effectively as part of the choir, the heavenly choir of God's angels. Following heavens' sheet music, we know when it is our turn to chime in, how to add our small part to the harmony and melody of God's Symphony.
I no longer think of myself as an ex-musician, but an integral part of God's band, his band of Angels, performing in a town near you. There's always room for another performer so instead of being an observer, I hope you'll join in. There's plenty of sheet music for everyone.

Thanks, Chet, for “Heaven’s sheet music…harmonize our thought with God … the key note is Love…it’s our very nature…” God is the Composer, the Conductor, and the Music itself! There’s not one wrong note. “…not one faileth” (Isaiah 40:26). (At-one-ment!) I’ve come to understand at a more consistent "operable level," that harmony already exists. In fact, harmony is the Truth of being. Yielding to harmony, naturally brings us into health, happiness, and wholesomeness – our God-defined being. There’s no pressure to make ourselves better humans. Instead there’s the constant call to accept God’s definition of His spiritual creation, including each one of us. The more of our spiritual selves we accept, the better we are in our humanness - our various roles as well as our humanity. And this yielding of the human to the Divine? “It’s our very nature.” As I go to “Our Father” in unceasing prayer, especially when my experience seems inharmonious, I am inspired to look/listen again (and again, and again - if necessary!) through the appearing/impression of inharmony until I can see/hear the Truth of being. Harmony. Pure harmony. Perfect harmony. The reality of perfect harmony is the Truth that sets us free to enjoy our rich heritage as God’s beloved children. “…harmony is universal…man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent…(Science &Health, 414). This series on the Beatitudes has helped me really grow. Thanks to everyone and Love to all!

Thank you to everyone! As we appreciate the 10 commandments and the 8 beatitudes guiding thought first to God's love for us/our love for God, and then to how that love spills out to loving God's beloved ideas, I'm finding it enlightening to also consider how our Lord's Prayer offers this same guidance. It's been enriching to begin to prayerfully consider each of the 8 lines of this prayer as it correlates with its corresponding line in the beatitudes.
I would also love to learn the name of the book mentioned by #1!

Thank you, Chet, it's an understatement to say you gave an interesting, beautiful, and fitting way to look at the Beatitudes (and all of Scripture), as well as another reason to observe all of them, and not just play one or two notes. You summed up Jesus' mission, in heavenly tones, too, and while vocals following these weren't my style, you inspire me to adopt such responses, if I don't at once think of a hymn that fits, and to look for and sing a basic message from Bible passages, to let the overall points sink in. I'll sing a capella, sometimes silently, so I'll be sure to dig out the harmonious notes before closing my Bible or prayer. Without today's Lift ending the series with this musical attention, I'm singing praises to the Daily Lift team, including the lecturers, for the series on the Beatitudes. Even the pause for the prayer Monday, didn't depart from the Beatitudes, but expressed quite a few of them. I've learned each day, and am glad growth is metaphysical, for I doubt I could get through the door by now, with the scary part, if physical, being I've got more growing to do! With the Bible as sheet music, it gives another reason for the term "verses" we read. #13 Malcomb, leads us in song daily to find the right notes in Lifts. #66 Robert, I'm still chuckling over your 7/23 remark remembering your SS teachers heroically teaching unruly boys. It kept you singing for us. Thanks to all above for singing along today.

- 7/27/2012Thanks for such a beautiful summarising message that encapsulates all ghe Beatitudes. - 7/27/2012Hi Chet,
Here are some lyrics for hearts desiring to sing - for Aurora, Syria, & others:
There is no law of sin and death;
There is no warrior gene.
We step in the light as we heed its glow;
Protected from the darkness sometimes felt.
We seek to bless as we engage to love;
Nurturing His children below, and serving our Father above.
Thank you, Chet, for the idea of spiritual sheet music for the songs and "be-attitudes" in our hearts.

- 7/27/2012My husband has just reminded me, on hearing this, there is a book called 'the lovesong of the universe' - such a great title, and seems to fit today's Lift. The idea of singing and harmonising with Jesus teachings, especially the Beatitudes is such a beautiful way to conclude this series. Thank you all so much.

- 7/27/2012The letter of the Beatitudes seem to have its basis in the melody of the 10 Commandments, each one is a note in the heavenly scale.
We sing this sweet, powerful song, loving God above anything else and accepting the 10 Commandments as our own, knowing that with them the whole humanity will be blessed.

- 7/27/2012Many thanks Chet for pointing out the beautiful link between the beatitudes and the ten commandments. "To love God with all our heart and soul and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves." (Christian Science Hymnal #180).

- 7/27/2012"The beatitudes have to be sung" ! My, what a lovely thought! With all our singing in our churches, this song has to be added. thank you very much, Chet!
Of course, there is another song, Mrs. Eddy talks about: "The song of Christian Science is: "Work, work, work, watch and pray." - Mess. 1900, page 2
Nelly

- 7/27/2012WOW!

- 7/27/2012Thanks Chet,
Growing up, I loved the Lessons on Love as they seemed easy to understand.

WHEN YOU’RE SHAKY ON THE EDGE
FULL OF DOUBTS AND FEARS
EACH STEP OF LIFE
REVEALS
MUSIC IS THE ANSWER
MUSIC HEALS

MUSIC HEALS
YOU CAN TELL BY
HOW IT FEELS.
PUTS YOU IN TOUCH
WITH WHAT IS REAL.
IT OPENS UP
ENDLESSLY
ITS INSIDE OF

YOU CAN GO
EVEN WHEN YOU FEEL LONELY
INSIGNIFICANT AND LOW.
IT’S EVERYWHERE

- 7/27/2012Hey you Paradigm Shifter ! That adds a whole new dynamic to the beatitudes. And ties them into a "unified force field'' with the larger realities & teachings. Ah, the spiritual cosmos keeps revealing itself to us -- with our receptivity, and with insight from folks like you. Abundant thanks.

- 7/27/2012The Beatitudes embrace such pure, wonderful, and guiding ideas ,and to think of them as a song lifts our understanding of God's love for us even higher.

Men and angels sing." Hymn 264

- 7/27/2012"Do you read music or just play it by ear?"

- 7/27/2012Thanks, Chet, for “Heaven’s sheet music…harmonize our thought with God … the key note is Love…it’s our very nature…” God is the Composer, the Conductor, and the Music itself!

- 7/27/2012Boy, that's the truth! Lots of us have the letter down pat and can recite verses upon paragraphs by heart from the Bible and Science and Health.....but then go out and mess up and miss the mark.

I now know why the Bible says His mercy endureth forever - He doesn't give up on us! Thanks, Chet.

- 7/27/2012Thank you to everyone!

- 7/27/2012Thank you, Chet, it's an understatement to say you gave an interesting, beautiful, and fitting way to look at the Beatitudes (and all of Scripture), as well as another reason to observe all of them, and not just play one or two notes.
