I have a copy of the Oath of Allegiance that I took when I became an American citizen. The last line states that "I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion: so help me God." Jesus was being tried in the court of Pilate when he answered with truth to error (John 18;37). Mrs. Eddy says, Spirit, divine Love bears witness to the truth.(Science and Health, page 411.) We are never alone, afraid, if we do as Jesus did for the glory of God (John 11;14). This is healing. The Word, the Truth is never less than, other than God (John 1;1), and we are witnesses to that truth.

Suppose someone bears false witness of you, and in consequence you lose your job because the falsity is believed, - what then? We have to keep a clear understanding of our own worth in God's eyes, and turn the falsity over to Him to sort out. We need to keep calm, forgive, and continue to love the person or persons who have borne this false witness of us, trusting that God is in complete control, and will continue to care for each one of us. We cannot lose anything which God gives us - no-one can take away our true value, because God is our very life, and we are His image. If we seem to have lost a job and all our friends and acquaintances we have made in it, we need to look to God to see what new door He is opening for us. This can seem to be very hard at first, but gradually the light of Truth and Love shines through, and the belief of discord and heartache disappears completely, because God never ceased to love us and care for us. We are witnesses to what God is being and doing, as Christ Jesus demonstrated for us - nothing can come between God and His reflection, man.

I am also loving this spiritual light thrown on the Ten Commandments, and find everyone's comments and testimonies extremely helpful - many thanks to the Lecturers and Lifters.

Thank you for this lovely Lift. So peaceful and strong with the Truth. Sometimes I need a nugget of Truth to break the mesmerism and from early yesterday right through to now, I was working to break an awful mental picture that would seek to destroy true Individuality.

Sometimes, we need to see error for what it is; "a lie and the father of it" It is so cool that the Lesson speaks to God as not being in the wind, fire, earthquake but in that still small voice of healing.

To witness the Truth we have to look beyond the distraction of matter and see that nugget of Truth, those words of comfort that signal the healing has already taken place; let matter not distract us. I often remember a dog I had to tie for a few moments a day to allow a workman into the house. He would cry because he was not accustomed to being tied.

One morning I went and untied him and walked off. Over an hour had passed and the dog was still sitting in the exact spot with those sad eyes as if he was tied. He falsely witnessed to being tied. He never saw that he had his freedom.

He was so preoccupied with the sorrow of being tied (which was for his protection as well) that he never saw the release. I had to pick him up & carry him a distance for him to believe he was free.

Of the 10 lepers one SAW that he was healed, thus gave thanks. He was a witness to THE Truth. Today, I will only seek to be a witness to the Truth.

To be a witness of something, there must be evidence of it. I love to think that we are not only the witness to ours as well as others true identity but also the evidence of it! I hold this in thought as my son prepares to deploy overseas. He can be a true witness to the evidence of this regions perfect imaging of God's love and brotherhood. We can all be a 'true witness' as well as the 'untampered with' evidence!
I want to express my deepest gratitude for the Reading Rooms in Arlington, Tx and 5th Church in Dallas for finding and providing my son with our 2 books of the evidence of Divine Love in operation. He now has a service (pocket) Bible and Science and Health to take with him on his missions. This families gratitude is beyond human words.

oh my gosh....that great red dragon with the ten horns ready to break the ten commandments that i always pointed the finger at has been me...boy, that subtle little serpent grew to where ..after listening to these lifts this week i came face to face with me......yikes........i am now more aware and alert...thank you.

I was reminded of something Mrs. Eddy said in Misc.Writings which accompanied me during the last 2 days: "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme." (page 277) For some time I thought the sentence says "to the spiritual proof", but no, it is the SCIENTIFIC proof, which underlines the fact of being a divine Law.

Wow, I am so glad to be reminded of this. When you travel, you might tend to take others at their "face" value and see some pretty gruff faces looking back at you! Not so! this morning I walked down to a dear little village market for some butter and eggs to make banana bread! I was so glad that it wasn't raining on my way that I had a big smile on my face. What do you know, everyone else found a smile too! One or two even said, "Good morning!" Yeah, I broke the face barrier!
When i got sort of lost taking a short cut home, there was a dear man working in the garden and he was so happy to set me straight, that he kept talking as I walked off thanking him! We are truly all-one!

Thank you John for bringing your treasure of the 9th Comm into the Store House...I have been so blessed by this series of each day having a world testimony on the Commandments, together with 'Christian Science' and 'God' being the subject we each are studying in our Bible Lesson worldwide.
This last week has seen an uncovering of lies in my thinking by holding them up to the light of Truth, with so many directives that just turned me around in my tracks and brought the blessings and insight needed to correct at least 2 situations and humbly bare witness contrary to what turned out to be the carnal mind's false witness. (Rather like when I touch type without checking my index fingers are on those 2 directive bumps of 'f' & 'j' on the key board,and when I look back at what I have typed, I find nonsense, and have to start over again.)
"Love for God and man" as our Master, Christ Jesus and our Leader Mary Baker Eddy demonstrated, is certainly the receptive, directive and corrective Way in which 'Love leads and we follow' to be true witnesses to God's "very good" spiritual creation.

What a clear and outstanding explanation of this commandment! Thank you, Jon! It gives us lots to think about every moment!

At Annual Meeting we were reminded that the promised Messiah has come; the promised Comforter has come; what is coming now is the understanding. How precious it is to realize how these two weeks of the DL focusing on the Commandments -- so often misunderstood -- is forwarding that understanding. How grateful we all are.

Jon your message was just what was needed this morning as my body was bearing false witness to my true identity. And I could relate to many of the thoughtful comments, and especially js #12. I had that same experience and lost my job as an assistant manager of a credit union due to the false witness of the manager to our board at a time when jobs were scarce in my profession. It took me several months to find employment - the first time in my life without a job. But I wouldn't be where I am today without having made that change and I'm so blessed and grateful for my present home. As hymn 148 says, "In heavenly Love abiding, No change my heart shall fear..."

Also, Sally #26, I had a similar experience last Thursday flying down to my C.S. Association. My first flight was delayed over 3 hours causing me to miss my connecting flight. I received a new reservation and was told to go to a kiosk and print my boarding pass, but I couldn't find a kiosk anywhere and time was running short. The customer service counter had a line with about 100 people waiting for assistance. A young man observed my dismay as I looked at the long line and asked if I needed another flight. I said I had one but couldn't find where to print my boarding pass. He stepped out of line and walked me to a counter at another gate where there was an attendant and no line and waited until I was taken care of. I arrived over 5 hours late after 1:00 AM but was so grateful for all of the kindness shown along the way.

Just a great lift, Jon. Jesus is really our prime example at not taking letting mortal opinions undermine our relationship with God. Mary Baker Eddy stated that "sin makes deadly thrusts at mortals as ritualism and creed are summoned to give place to higher law, but Science will ameliorate mortal malice."" (p. 458, l. 20). We must always rise above mortal opinions, as she advises us constantly.. Thie is a very important commandment Thank you again.

Dear Jon, Thank you so much for this expansion on the 9th commandant. I always thought of it as we should not lie, and hadn't considered we should not accept a lie either. What a revelation. I have a 2 hour drive today to pick up my sister at the airport and that time will be filled with seeing the true image of God's child for some friends who are experiencing that false witness in their lives. All are surrounded by God's love and harmony and can never experience anything different.

The Ten Comandments series has been wonderful, but then all the LIfts and comments have been so inspiring and seem to meet challenges that I have. My gratitute to all who provide us with this spiritual nourishment, from Nate with his cheerful voice to the last note of music.

Thanks, Jon, for "Being a true witness...not all false witness is easy to see for the lie it is...we can be fooled...Mary Baker Eddy...argues, 'Only the Divine Mind can testify truly'...witnessing faithfully...Spirit witness heal(s)...bear true witness...like Jesus did...let divinity's own view...be ours and wholeheartedly agree." Wow!!! This is where the spiritual revolution, in which there are no carnal weapons, begins. It's where we accept and employ the dominion given to us in Genesis of overcoming physical sense perceptions with spiritual facts of the Truth of being. It's the healing principle that challenges, overcomes, and eradicates sin, sickness, and death in our lives. Each experience is an opportunity to witness only the man of God's creating. Defining whatever the problem seems to be as none other than a wrong view of ourselves and each other, the solution or healing comes when "we like Jesus did...let divinity's own view...be ours and wholeheartedly agree." Mrs. Eddy wrote in Science and Health (476), "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals.” So, true witness is about looking through the appearance and beholding “the perfect man.” Very powerful! Very inspiring! Thanks again, Jon.

Witness in the old testament comes from a verb meaning “to repeat, do again”. In this case someone is able to repeat to others something he has observed firsthand.

I love instant replay for televised sports events. You might be quite certain of what you saw and then…instant replay shows an entirely different view. Not only does instant replay “repeat, do again”, but it often presents a new angle of view. We have to alter our testimony with better evidence.

Christ is the camera with the clearest view of us. Jesus' Christ view brought the facts into full view. Sort of what Troy #16 did for his little friend. Good one!

When we understand "Oneness" this realization will never allow us to do or say anything against ourselves/one another. We are one and we never would think of hurting ourselves hence the necessity of "loving our neighbor as ourselves."

John, this lift is so powerful and brings such purity of understanding to the ninth commandment.
I so love how the lifters' posts reinforce the lift ideas. As I read through the responses, a deeper spiritual understanding kept building. When I came to #16 Troy from Barbados, a tremendous spiritual shift in my perspective occurred. It had never dawned on me to see the healing of the 10 lepers in that way. They were so like your little dog, Troy, who did not recognize his freedom. For me the scale tipped over from a material view to a spiritual view of truth like never before. Only one leper saw what was true all along, his perfection as God's child. And as his joy overflowed, he expressed his gratitude. So often the misconception lingers that we are "fixing something". In truth, no "healing" was ever necessary because God's perfection was always the only reality. Healing is simply shaking off the mesmerism and waking up to truth. Healing is seeing as God sees, and that bears true witness. Oh and yes #24 humble pie, I know what you mean! It is "me" too. We are the ones standing porter. It's up to us to let the right thoughts in and slam the door shut on the wrong ones. How humbling indeed. Thanks so much to all. Big blessings today!

I had to leave a job because of FALSE WITNESSING against me. However, it turned
out that it was TIME to leave anyway. I was MUCH better off financially because of
the UNJUST report against me, which no one believed, not even HR. Later the
person who caused NUMEROUS people to be fired or quit on their own as I did,
was FIRED when everyone learned this person was on DRUGS. Her behavior was
UNACCEPTABLE but the working environment wasn't tolerable to many working
there, so a lot of lessons were learned. I was able to take advantage of UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS for a long time, plus a PENSION paid a large dividend,
I really wasn't aware of, so it all worked out. Let's just be sure we don't FALSE
WITNESS self. THIS IS THE PLUS I GOT OUT OF THIS "LIFT" TODAY....Thank you
lifters for this WONDERFUL TRUTH.

I am out of town and greatly value the comfort and deep thinking shared here and encouraged. I always appreciate the Lift but it is particularly wonderful to have this spiritually minded community at my finger tips to help me see above current circumstances. Remember Jill Carrol, I will never forget her. She was the news correspondant for the Christian Science Monitor who was captured and held prisoner in Iraq quite a number of years ago at a time that captured prisoners were being beheaded. I don't know her, I never met her, but I was moved by the way she got free. Not that she said anything, but how she told her story of her incarceration. She must of prayed using the 9th Commandment and seeing her captors as God does. Not bearing false witness, not seeing them as terrorists, but seeing them as caring loving persons. Her actions bear this out. She will always be an inspiration to me.

Thank you Jon for this wonderful lift on the 9th Commandment. It is helping me to see through the lie someone is thinking about me and also helping me to not feel hurt by it as it is untrue. It is also helping me to truly love this dear person even though there seems to be a rift between us. Her mistaken thoughts are not real for her either and I have been praying to see her in the light of Truth and also that she already really does Know the Truth. I am knowing for her that the fear and fearful thoughts she believes to be true are the Lie and through God's Love for her and for me, this light of truth will shine in both our thoughts and IS shinning right this very minute. Also knowing that this false idea cannot hurt her either. She and I are both God's beloved children and there is a lot of Good that comes from Knowing that!! All is well, even in the seeming whirlwind of what mortal mind would try to make you believe.....all is well right now in Truth, just taking a minute for the fog, mist, error to be wiped away. Nothing can discuise God and His Truth for very long....

Response to JD, and the 9th Commandment Lift

I volunteered for Desert Shield/Storm in the Spring of 1990, a few months into the Special Forces Candidate School I was doing with a Reserve Unit in Baltimore, MD. I was looking for a good way out of this school, because I realized it was a little too much for me. By November, the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Unit I was attached to out of Ft Meade, MD, deployed to Fort Hood, TX. We were in the rotation to go over to Saudi by February, for Combat Support, and in the mean time, we were tasked to fix some equipment from the First Cavalry, and ship it over to support them by February.

Our Unit never made it over, because the Ground War was "officially" over in 100 hours, and that forfeited our reason for going over. I stayed on for the entire year at Ft Hood, because I wanted to be ready, just in case, an opportunity opened up for me to go over; at the time I wanted to be out in front defending my country. An opportunity never opened up, and that's okay.

But I can say this, looking back, for sure, our Pastor, the Bible and Science and Health, were my best weapons, wherever I went. So I am grateful your son procured a set of these. With them, your son can know, with certainty, that no overseas situation "shall neither hurt nor destroy, in all my holy mountain." Even where he'll be, he's still on his path up the Holy Mountain, and is in God's hands. I'l be praying to support our soldiers, and your son will be in my mind, and

"....for Jesus, God's nature and understanding was truth." Praise God for this foundation of being.

Your words have brought me to tears of gratitude. I know God directed every step of your service as he will direct my son's. I have no fear for my son's well being. When his older brother spent a year in the Green Zone in Baghdad, I had no fear for his well being either. I knew that God was keeping him 'in all His ways'. Even as we were talking via Webcam and could hear the mortars going off outside, I knew he was safe in his Father's arms. I spent many hours praying and working to know there were no enemies where he was and that everyone was a precious child of God. I am so grateful for Jon's interpretation of the 9th commandment. For many years I was "Bearing False Witness to"my own individuality let alone others,untill I read the Book Science and Health with key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.With the study of this amazing Book in conjunction with The Bible I awoke to my true selfhood as spiritual. You see in ignorance of the Ten Commandments I had witnessed[thought] of myself and others as "mortals" sometimes good,more often than not as sick or sinning,lacking mortals "Bearing false witness".I now understand and am deeply grateful for the protection and love of these gentle laws of God=Love for myself and all creation.

So needed & so well amplified. Thank you for being a good, true witness for us all with love.

How can we be better witnesses in and as church? See each other, in and out of a branch church as spiritual, perfect, beloved and loving each other? Affirm that each can and does hear God directly, feel God's love and supported life purpose directly? Know that there is no hierarchy of holiness or deserving of insights, healing, abundance, grace? Be sincerely grateful for the lessons/blessin's each teaches us to help us grow in spiritual reasoning, grace, love? Compassionately empathize with and support those who otherwise seem so different from us and who challenge us to think/act better? Pray for them? Be a better friend, sibling, CS nurse, practitioner, democratic equal, student for/to them? Thank God for bringing us together? Better walk the talk, talk less, love/serve more in our community/world? Visit/drive/help those at home/hospital/nursing home? Prayerfully defend their healings, testimonies, on-going unfoldment? Believe/apply their facts, truths, inspiration? Make it safe to think/care/pray/talk/risk/act honestly? Wash away the taboos, stereotypes, self-deceptions, and welcome the homeless, prisoners, mentally ill, hurting, of with different race/culture/class/experience/origin/gender/politics/strengths? Be open to learn from and love those who wear glasses or tattoos, who are fit or fat, rich or poor, have sex in an abusive marriage or out of marriage? Embrace those who did not grow up in or who don't know/like the white CS middle class culture? Be honest?

A late "Thank you", John. I lied to keep out of trouble as a child, but soon after becoming an adult, I had a sudden thought that if I couldn't be trusted, how could I trust anyone? Cured on the spot! Later I saw Prov.26:28 "A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it". Made sense! To lie means believing others are fools, and you want them to be. If you don't respect or love, it says much about yourself. Remember what Jesus said about calling a man a fool, in Matt 5:22. This Lift takes it many notches up! False witnessing about intelligence, health, safety, & provisions, shows we don't believe others are pure ideas of God, our Father. It reveals the same about what is believed about oneself, too! If we indulge in the false witnessing, then we, in a sense, are disassociating from being a child of God, and the 10 Commandments are not promises of good, and protection to us, but become finger pointing warnings, and induce fear and guilt, even mental blindness. Christian Science awakens us from this Adam dream of possible sin. This Lift is another snooze alarm, lest we've dozed back off. Now I can stay busy reversing negative dreams of myself and others. Couldn't hear this yesterday, & today it wouldn't be on phone, but got sound this try! I am blessed. #35 Sheila, I often marvel at all the spiritual growth these Lifts bring round the world, and the ripples than spread outward, in tiny and greater waves. #91, Honestly, For Chuirch- There is no empty, God fills all space.

thankou Jon; 25 years ago, i underwent a painful divorce with false testimpnies against me . After forgiving all involved , my relationship with my husband improved. However my children were still very critical of me & an addad member to our family also used false witness to try & cause trouble between us . It took me 10 years to affirm that this person could be capable only of good. result- love all round. your lecture & lifts have turned my thoughts around so much, that I feel a new person. I have one more challenge to solve in my family, but am going to see as Diviniy sees! god bless you!

I had a clear thought of Only Love for your son the other night! It was so beautiful, only Love for your son, for you, and for your other son, and entire family, for following CS wherever desire takes you all as a family and as individuals. There is no false witnessing in this. HOW brave and innocent and exciting it is for your son to be in Afghanistan, right where the "rubber meets the road!" Only right movement and good movement, only right decisions and good decisions! It doesn't matter the human orders that are given, or the human plans that are drawn up, It is God that "moveth us" all, His all-encompassing love is such that it rules the human situation, meets us where we are at that moment, "and rules the day." Wisdom, alertness, awareness and awakeness, are all part of His love and His qualities that we reflect. I am so grateful for your family, for your fearlessness, and how God has touched you. I am so grateful for this clear though in prayer, and I am so happy to share this with you as follow-up evidence of His presence. Only Love, JD, and I see your family has the same kind of all-washing Love!

What a fabulous idea to explain the Ten Commandments and now the Beatitudes. I love them. I use them in the Sunday School. I asked my pupil which commandment he finds the most difficult to explain and it was this commandment about being a true witness. Thank you all so much for these clear explanations. A non christian scientist could not understand the one about Thou shalt not kill. We understand it, as we know we are spiritual. Great work.
