Thank you Chet for this great Lift. The lessons of Science are all around us because it is based on the Truth. God and good are one. In Science we learn that God is good and God is all- in -ALL. Therefore, if God is good and is everywhere, there cant be room for anything unlike God. Good is unopposed, supreme. Mortal mind tries to tell us that we ourselves are made up of good and evil. Mortal mind is a liar! Mary Baker Eddy says in S&H page 186,"Mortal mind is ignorant of self, or it could never be self-deceived. If mortal mind knew how to be better, it would be better."

A wonderful concept: God, who is Good itself, is unopposed!
This clearly states that nothing at all can oppose God's good touching His or Her offspring, you and me!
God is All powerful, and "all" implies completeness, nothing can be added to in nor taken away from it.
In Bible times Jesus explained the impossibility of opposing God's will in John 8:44: "Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies."
"The Father that dwells in me, he does the works." John 14:10
Juan 14:10

Thank you Chet.
What a wonderful lift to realise that if there is no opposite to God there can be no opposite to His image.
If we look into a mirror we see our image. We can never see the opposite to our image because there is no opposite. It just does not exist.
So God never sees the opposite of Himself. He expresses what He is, and this expression is called man. When God looks at His own expression in what Mrs Eddy calls the mirror of divine Science He sees His exact image. No opposite image can exist.
515:29-4
Call the mirror
30 divine Science, and call man the reflection. Then note
1 how true, according to Christian Science, is the reflection
to its original. As the reflection of yourself appears in
3 the mirror, so you, being spiritual, are the reflection of
God.
Because I am spiritual I am unopposed by the suggestions of matter.
What a lift to carry me through the day. Thank you Chet

Many thanks Chet for this great reminder that "We are living in the divine universe of infinite Love and light, completely unopposed!" "So brightly burns Love's holy glow,/ So constant shines its light,/ That none can claim he doth not know/ The pathway through the night,/ For see, 'tis lit by Love divine/ To trace for us His wise design." (Christian Science Hymnal #311).

Thank you, Chet, for “Unopposed … in God’s universe there are no opposites … God is … God/Good is all – unopposed.” An effective way to stay clear of imposing (any-and-every-ill-that-flesh-is-heir-to!) thoughts is to admit into my consciousness no opposing thoughts to “God/Good is all.” I’ll be working specifically on this today, which means I’ll have to stay alert and focused and firm. The “knowing” of a child of God! The discipline of a disciple! The practice of a student of Christian Science! “Since God is All, there is no room for His unlikeness. God, Spirit, alone created all, and called it good. Therefore evil, being contrary to good, is unreal, and cannot be the product of God” (S&H 339).

“The Scriptures declare that God is too pure to behold iniquity (Habakkuk i. 13); but they also declare that God pitieth them who fear Him; that there is no place where His voice is not heard; that He is “a very present help in trouble.” (Caution in the Truth, from Unity of Good by Mary Baker Eddy, page 2. with Psalm 46:1). The Book of Psalms is very soothing poetry during times of distress.

It's why Jesus said, A house divided cannot stand. There is nothing in the realm of good that is EVER divided. There is nothing in the expressions of Good that are ever divided. Anything divided is not true because it cannot stand. In Jesus' response to the Pharisees saying he cast out devils through the Prince of the devils, he says, "if Satan cast out satan, how shall his kingdom stand?"
Ultimately, Good stands unopposed, the "House built on a Rock," as it says at the end of the Sermon on the Mount; and the house built on the sand, the house divided, the Tower of Babel, is self-destroyed, and "great is the fall of it" as it "foams itself away, and underneath is a deep, settled, calm," (Misc Writings) the unopposed Good that has always been and always will be, and is right now!
I love how our DL community, seeking, searching, finding, and sharing Good, is on the same page, from lecturers, to organizers, to musicians, to listeners, to commenters. I love our global family in the name of Almighty God, Good.

Chet, thanks for this perspective of no opposites, the freedom of being unopposed!
In high school I studied technical electricity, including power generation and high voltage distribution. Some concerns then were resistance to the flow of electric currents through metal conductors, and the related power losses and inefficiencies. We were taught to expect opposition and relative losses from heat and reluctance. Telecommunications also had limitations due to "copper losses" and single transmission per copper conductor.
Later on, fresh viewpoints and inspired ideas lead to telecommunication advances and solutions using fiber optic cable transmission where pulses of light are conducted through an optical fiber. Systems based on fiber optics can transmit billions of bits of data per second, and they can even carry multiple signals along the same fiber by using lasers of different colors.
Changing our viewpoint from the physical to the metaphysical - thinking out from the perspective of being unopposed, and unopposed being, we are free from resistance and don't have to experience losses, buildup of heat, and distortion.
Since man is the emanation of God, and God has no opposite, then in truth, man is unopposed to be the full and complete expression of God. The spiritual light of the Christ reveals man in this light and enables us to keep our view pure, joyous, and unobstructed. What remains is man in high fidelity to his builder and maker.

This is a very helpful message for me, as someone has just asked me to pray for someone who has been medically diagnosed with a brain tumor. Tony Martin"s (No.8) words:
"If we look into a mirror we see our image. We can never see the opposite to our image because there is no opposite. It just does not exist." really resonates with me. Of course, God sees only His own image, which includes no brain and therefore no brain tumor - only His own image reflected back to Him, the image of Mind which is filled with Love"s images. This is the Christ, Truth which makes us free, and there is no opposition to Truth.
Thank you Chet, Tony, and all who comment. What a wonderful thing is Christian Science, blessing us all and harming no-one.

I love this way of reflecting God, then we ALL can't be unopposed to GOOD and God. Every one of us is reflecting Good, Love all around us that is the Truth about E V E R Y O N E. Therefor I wont believe that somebody is showing me a bad side or treating me without love, that is not possible. Maybe some people need distance when they don't understand each other well, but Love makes things work, so I'll let Intelligence do the work and everything will move on the right way. Thank you Chet!

Thanks for this inspiring thought that God is unopposed. An article, "THE DESTRUCTION OF BABYLON" by Mark McCurties ( Journal, July 2012) states: "The Bible shows us that the God-forsaken mental realm of Babylon cannot exist, because God is the only Mind, and therefore Mind's atmosphere of thought is the only realm we can truly exist in. In other words, we dwell in the Holy City every day, every moment." And, "God's children must dwell in the Holy City, because God could not put us where He is not." Since God is unopposed and is all good, there can be no evil, sin, disease or death. What a blessing we all have in Christian Science!

Beautiful, Chet! So simple, yet profound! I was remembering the question Mrs. Eddy posed from last week's Bible Lesson: "What is this supposed power, which opposes itself to God?" S&H, p.224: l. 32. I love her use of the word, "supposed" and how often she uses the term in her writings of "suppositional opposite". If something is "suppositional" it is not based on law and therefore has not a leg to stand on! In the Bible and Science and Health the Truth is based on there being only One God and His Law. This Truth destroys the "suppostional opposite" of another power or law. Thanks to All for the terrific comments so far!

I recall one of my riding students experiences at a prestigious horse show. I heard her name announced as a class winner! A beautiful ribbon was presented to her which I saw tossed aside in the tack room. You got it…. she told me - with a bit of guilt - that there were no other riders in the class. Once we decided that it was a thank you gift, we had a good laugh, appreciated it and hung it on her horse’s temporary show stall.
But your lift, Chet is a wake up to the subtle idea that we might actually think that we must slay opponents (opposites) to win. Perhaps we are really meant to humbly accept the prize and say “thank you” for UNOPPOSED goodness? It sort of chastens earth born pride, doesn’t it? Unopposed God.
Thanks Chet... and thanks Tony #8 for well chosen words!

I remember the first time I went to Disneyland, and it was on George Washington's birthday, but no one minded standing in the queues. We moved along at a good pace, and young skilled performers kept us entertained all along the way. As a friend told me, "Everyone smiles at Disneyland!" Thank you Chet for this simple and clear message. Of course it appears simple but as humans we do complicate life with a sense of opposites or opposing forces. I like the clear message presented that God is singular, All Good, and powerfully unopposed. Period. That brings us to the first commandment, Thou shalt have no other gods before me. It is interesting to note that it took man over 3000 years to enter into the age of technology. This is based on both the Jewish and Christian Calendars. I asked myself why so long, and the answer came as I call it; THE BABYLON EFFECT. That is, man excepting for so long, the opposite of discovery and invention, that things don't get better but stays the same, the dawning of thought spiritual instead of it's opposite, material, broke the prison of thought and freed man to make infinite discoveries and inventions. Once it's realized that there is no opposite to good, then progress takes it's effect.

Another childhood game we played - in the playground - was Go, Go Go Go Go Go Stop! If you were caught still moving after the Stop!, you were eliminated. If you paused at the right time, the game resumed.
This reminds me of pausing while we wait on God: "Beholding the infinite tasks of truth, we pause, - wait on God. Then we push onward,...." Notice the reference to "A bright outlook" (Science & Health pg. 323). So to "...pause - wait on God..." means there is no opposite to "A bright outlook", and we are not eliminated from making progress. Thanks to Chet and all those taking this pause to enjoy "A bright outlook."

The words antipode and antipodes are used 37 times in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. Antipode means opposite. She makes it clear that there is no opposite to God, Good, Spirit.
"The suppositional antipode of divine infinite Spirit is the so-called human soul or spirit, in other words the five senses, — the flesh that warreth against Spirit. These so-called material senses must yield to the infinite Spirit, named God." ( S & H p.200:20) Thanks for the lovely Daily Lift!

It became so clear to me now that really we don't need to fight anymore against error / evil but we have to yield to the Divine. Though at times we very much feel like we are in the middle of a fight. But isn't it really the clearing of our thought that often is somehow painful. I love this "there is only one primal Cause..."

Here are some analogies I enjoy. You may have more.
What we call 'darkness' is only a word for lack of LIGHT.
"Cold" is only a word for lack of HEAT. It is not a thing by itself.
"Vaccum" is only a lack of PRESSURE.
There is no force of "weightlessness", there is only reduced GRAVITY.
No "centrifigal force" only INERTIA.
We don't have a "forgettery", only MEMORY.
"Mistakes" have no principles, they just ignore the PRINCIPLES of mathematics.
"Sin" & "evil" are words to describe "ways that don't work".
. . . Just having a name for a condition doesn't make it REAL.
Speaking of the 'ying & yang', 'good & bad', 'right & wrong' doesn't prove that opposition
actually exists in the perfection of the DIVINE DESIGN.
Somethings are only shadows of the real. Even 'matter' is 'not what we thought it was !"

Thank you, Chet; your early morning message enabled me to go to sleep peacefully last night. Sometimes my thought battles the opposite beliefs of materiality and spirituality when the physical senses are proclaiming that matter is real. Yet pain cannot dictate the true state of my health because no opposite to health exists. It is so helpful to be reminded that there are no opposing forces and that God is unopposed Then this morning I gained even more comfort from all the wonderful comments: Martin, pointing out that mortal mind is a liar; Tony's message that we never see the opposite to our image in the mirror; Nela's idea to stay alert and not admit opposing thoughts into consciousness; Peter's unique perspective on opposing forces; Donna's observation that we only complicate life with a sense of opposites; Linda noting how many times Mary Baker Eddy has used the word antipodes; Anni reminding us that we don't need to fight against error, and Finally Bill's great analogies. What a feast! Thank you so much for your insights. I love being part of the Daily Lift community.

Dear Chet and fellow Lifters - Thank you for the inspiring excerpts of elevating thought from the material to the spiritual - the only place it was, is, or ever can be. That which is Spiritual has no opposite, as #73 Bill Kilgour so eloquently stated: " Just having a name for a condition doesn't make it REAL". We are in the process of relisting our home that has been taking a few years to sell, and are focusing on the "unopposing" stand that the perfect listing agent, buyer, price, time-frame are ALL of God and His idea. As #64 Gary Rowland so beautifully put it: so to (. . . "pause - wait on God" - means there is no opposite to "a bright outlook" and we are not eliminated from making progress.) One God governing ALL - how marvelous! No opposition there!

Chet, you have made this topic so clear. It brought a smile to my face. Each comment has brought more illumination, and I am most grateful.
It does seem that the world is full of opposites starting with "mortal mind", and yet the Truth lies only in the Allness of Love. In Prose Works Mrs. Eddy speaks of the "infinite ocean of Love" and I rejoice in that unopposed Motherhood of God.

Thank you Chet, and all the commenters for such wonderful spiritual insights! While the human mind is caught up in dualistic tendencies, Christian Science takes an unequivocal stand for the unity of God, or good. "God, good, being ever present, it follows in divine logic that evil, the suppositional opposite of good, is never present." (S & H 72: 21 - 23)
Much love to everyone.

I agree with everyone!! Wonderful eye opening reminder to be alert to the thought that there could ever be an opposite to God's qualities, which we all reflect. Chett,
Great "Lift." As a former professional educator, I know that understanding the concept of "opposite" is more complicated than understanding the concept of "same," so that mom was giving valuable instruction to her child(ten). Also, the final thing you said made me think of the summary of Christian Science: "God, good, eternal and infinite it All" And, of course, man is God's image and likeness.
Thank you.

Chet, this insight is tremendously simple and powerful. The very "architecture" of t mortal mind is based on opposites -- good vs. evil, love vs. hate, beauty vs. ugliness, wisdom vs. stupidity, truth vs lies and on it goes. The mechanism of every problem is opposing ideas or forces. When you realize that one side of the problem is false (evil, hate, ugliness, stupidity or lies for example) the problem disappears. You are left with what God created, the only true reality. Opposites are the very fabric of the material universe, even down to atoms where you have the positive and the negative particles, protons and electrons. The material world is a cruel universe because of its polarities. Thank goodness it is an illusion. Like you said, the concept of opposites being false is fundamental in Christian Science. In the Bible the misconception of opposites first appeared through the metaphor of eating the apple from the tree of knowledge -- good and evil. The negative idea in the opposite pair has no power of its own. The illusion attempts to persist is by coupling itself with the true idea. However, truth is the first and only spiritual idea. It alone is a reflection of God, the only power. Mrs. Eddy takes us back to God every time by rejecting the lie (disease, sin) and reaffirming truth. So brilliant, simple and powerful.

- 3/4/2013Thank you Chet for this great Lift.

- 3/4/2013A wonderful concept: God, who is Good itself, is unopposed!
Juan 14:10

- 3/4/2013Thank you Chet.

- 3/4/2013Many thanks Chet for this great reminder that "We are living in the divine universe of infinite Love and light, completely unopposed!" (Christian Science Hymnal #311).

- 3/4/2013Thank you, Chet, for “Unopposed … in God’s universe there are no opposites … God is … God/Good is all – unopposed.” An effective way to stay clear of imposing (any-and-every-ill-that-flesh-is-heir-to!) thoughts is to admit into my consciousness no opposing thoughts to “God/Good is all.” I’ll be working specifically on this today, which means I’ll have to stay alert and focused and firm.

- 3/4/2013“The Scriptures declare that God is too pure to behold iniquity (Habakkuk i.

- 3/4/2013It's why Jesus said, A house divided cannot stand.

- 3/4/2013Chet, thanks for this perspective of no opposites, the freedom of being unopposed!

- 3/4/2013This is a very helpful message for me, as someone has just asked me to pray for someone who has been medically diagnosed with a brain tumor.

- 3/4/2013Thank you Chet, for this very clear perspective.
So much of material education hinges upon the concept of "opposites" and of disparity and variance.

- 3/4/2013I love this way of reflecting God, then we ALL can't be unopposed to GOOD and God.

- 3/4/2013Thanks for this inspiring thought that God is unopposed.
Bevi, Sandpoint, ID
- 3/4/2013Beautiful, Chet!

- 3/4/2013I recall one of my riding students experiences at a prestigious horse show.

- 3/4/2013It is interesting to note that it took man over 3000 years to enter into the age of technology.

- 3/4/2013Another childhood game we played - in the playground - was Go, Go Go Go Go Go Stop!

- 3/4/2013The words antipode and antipodes are used 37 times in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy.

And also thank you # 23, Peter = what an exciting explanation of the transportation of electricity and how science has unfolded new mean of working.
It became so clear to me now that really we don't need to fight anymore against error / evil but we have to yield to the Divine. Though at times we very much feel like we are in the middle of a fight. But isn't it really the clearing of our thought that often is somehow painful. I love this "there is only one primal Cause..."

- 3/4/2013Here are some analogies I enjoy.
Dear CHET, THANK YOU seventy times seven !

- 3/4/2013Thank you, Chet; your early morning message enabled me to go to sleep peacefully last night.

- 3/4/2013Dear Chet and fellow Lifters - Thank you for the inspiring excerpts of elevating thought from the material to the spiritual - the only place it was, is, or ever can be.

- 3/4/2013Chet, you have made this topic so clear.

- 3/4/2013Sincere gratitude Chet. Yes, young children love finding opposite situations/words. So happy to know that there can never be an opposite, or opposition to Peace, Love, and One God, good.
Thank you Bev 37 and Peter 24 for sharing other helpful, clear insights.

- 3/4/2013Thank you for this insight that I just now in praying about the election in Kenya find very helpful - to see all governed by this spiritual law of no opposites so each one is able to agree to the outcome.

- 3/4/2013Thank you Chet, and all the commenters for such wonderful spiritual insights!

- 3/4/2013I agree with everyone!! Wonderful eye opening reminder to be alert to the thought that there could ever be an opposite to God's qualities, which we all reflect. I've been thinking all day abut the hymn verse, "Seeing only Thy creation we can share Thy happiness." Christian Science Hymnal #58 Thank You Chet.

- 3/5/2013Chett,
Great "Lift." As a former professional educator, I know that understanding the concept of "opposite" is more complicated than understanding the concept of "same," so that mom was giving valuable instruction to her child(ten). Also, the final thing you said made me think of the summary of Christian Science: "God, good, eternal and infinite it All" And, of course, man is God's image and likeness.
Thank you.

- 3/5/2013Wow... thank you for this wonderful lift. It puts everything in the right perspective!

- 3/5/2013Chet, this insight is tremendously simple and powerful.

- 3/5/2013Thanks, Chet, for this peaceful reminder. Your voice is so soothing and I always loved when Ann and you did the lesson on video. As Reading Room Librarian, I have been looking for ways to talk with a stranger about CS without getting too deep. Your lift and the one I just listened to from Ginny Luedeman have helped me enormously to simplify what I can say. Thank you so much!!!
