  1. A welcome Lift! What a great way to go forward today - "filled with the Allness and greatness of God" conscious of His all power and all presence. Thank you.

  2. Thankk you Chet for for a rather re assururing and encouraging Lift for today .Yes ,indeed your reminder that we are" filled with the allness of God " is powerful treatment .

  3. Very inspiring. My very first. Thank you for the word.

  4. Thank you for this lovely Lift. I always listen a first time to each Daily Lift to hear the overall message and then a second time looking more closely at the different gems of thought which make it up. It is like looking at beautiful jewelry shining with different facets. A third and fourth look take me deeper into the pure quality of the spiritual message. On this occasion it is the different concepts of trying to do something which have sparkled out. When we try to defeat, resist, sin, disease and death, we are not attempting something humanly in which we may or may not succeed. They are already nothing and we are children of Good doing what we see our heavenly Father do. However when doubt and fear and uncertainty try to enter our thought, they claim an activity in which they will forever fail, as they have no presence.

  5. Many thanks Chet for this very inspiring declaration. "To be so filled with the allness of God [Love], we see that 'Enemies are not people.'" That is probably why, since the age of five, I have never enjoyed the story of David and Goliath (I Samuel). "Fairer than morning, lovelier than the daylight,/ Dawns the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee." (Christian Science Hymnal #317).

  6. "Nothing can threaten God". Thank you Chet for this inspiring thought! Nothing can threaten God's all harmonious, all powerful sovereign ever presence, the ever active Mind, the all supplying Love, the substance of Spirit, the beauty and completeness of Soul, the glorious, innocent expression of Life, the integrity of Truth or the ever governing, all encompassing laws of Principle. What wonderful armor to take with us today and everyday!! The confidence this gives is awesome!

  7. Thankyou for this wonderfully inspiring LIft.

  8. Thank you, what a great way to start our day to be filled with the allnes of God-Love.

  9. Thank you for this simple but powerful lift. You remind to keep it simple.

  10. Great lift! Thank you!

  11. Thank you Chet

  12. Thank you, Chet, for “Defeating giants … really be conscious of the all-power and all-presence of God …”

The giants! The strongholds/strong holds that “the world” imposes on us and yet could not, if we would not let it. To the best of my growing ability, I will not be complicit in my own or others’ defeat!!! It’s easier to expect and rejoice in the victory of Good over evil, when God’s “all-power and all-presence” is understood as a “very present help.”

Just before reading this Lift, I was prayerfully considering how to defeat a long-standing giant in my own life experience. You’ve reminded me that victory is guaranteed through God-consciousness! I’m strengthened by Jesus’ example of defeating “every ill that flesh is heir to” by going to God in unceasing prayer and with unwavering obedience, which is the way of Christian Science. It’s the way to defeat the world’s giants. With this, I’ll run to meet and defeat “my” Goliath!

“The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible” (S&H 191:21).

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (II Tim 1:7).

“… I come … in the name of the Lord … God … whom thou hast defied” (I Sam 17:45).

“… Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser ... is cast down … ” (Rev 12:10).

  13. Thank you for this very inspiring lift and for sharing it with us!

  14. THANK YOU!

  15. Thank you Chet for reminding me of the opinion of those who did not want to go into the promised land:
    Num 13:30-33

30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

If we accept that the mortal thought is as a giant and that in comparison we are as grasshoppers in our own sight, what confidence can we have in our ability to overcome error?

We are promised that with faith we will remove problems that seem like mountains we will remove from us.

  16. WOW what a timely message as I fight a giant and await word of success. To become conscious of God's presence is more than just knowing He is present. I'm striving to really feel His presence. Ditto to all of the quotes in nela's (#12) comment.

  17. Oh Yes! Thank you, Chet!

  18. Thank you for the inspiring Lift, shared with such spiritual understanding, comfort, healing! My thanks to Chet, the DL Team, and Lifters all!

  19. Welcome # 3. Your very first. Wonderful! Beginning with the one God, all good, for you and all. God fears nothing nor do we in that divine consciousness of only good. Thanks to Chet and everyone who gets the Good News of Truth and Love out to the world!

  20. I needed that. Trying to let go of this alleged problem that seems to be a person. I clearly know I have to let go of the association. Thank you for the inspiring message and reminder.

  21. Thank you Chet for your inspiring message! I really like your thought that like David, we can run to meet our Goliaths because we know God, Life, Truth, Love is with us always, protecting. Mrs. Eddy says, "... keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind already full. There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited" ("First Church of Christ, Scientist and Miscellany p 210). Our "giants' are always defeated because, one with divine Love, inspired sense guides.
Thank you again for this inspired message lift!
And thank you lifters and The Daily Lift Team all.

  22. My thanks to you, Chet, for this precious reminder about having consciousness so filled with God. With the armor of God any giant can be defeated - we see its nothingness. Also appreciated JD's comments and Nela's citations.

    Muchas gracias Chet.

  24. It may not be necessary for us to fully understand HOW God supports us facing the Giant. But we can certainly understand the confidence of a David.

I was reminded the other day of a remarkable healing in Christian Science. A friend had been traveling in southern Spain when the car she was riding in went over a cliff. At the hospital, one had died, another banged up, and my friend was declared in such bad shape, that walking again would be impossible. I arrived a couple days later to allow the CS Practitioner on the case to have some time away from the hospital. My friend was new to CS and I was completely amazed by her bold bold BOLD declarations about God’s will for her…all good. My God was Love, her God was absolutely in charge!

By God’s provision, she was quietly extracted from the hospital during a transfer to a larger facility and spent many weeks at the Madrid home of the practitioner. She walked away and is active today. Whatever their considerable work and growth might have been, God was in charge all the way!

Her testimony can be found in the June 20, 1994 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel

  25. Thank you for this inspiring and comforting message!

  26. Thanks so much, Chet! Truly our aim as Christian Scientists and as Christians is to realize and live from this quote from our Bible Lesson this week: "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dis-honor God." Science and Health, p. 228: 25-27. Defeating "giants" in our thought is the work of today and Always! Love and Gratitude to All!

  27. This is wonderful Chet. Thank you. Yes, we are all victors. Isn't that the Truth.

  28. Oh my, such a comforting Lift, thank you, thank you! It really puts things into perspective - that there's really only God, good & His allness, and when we become conscious of that, any fears (giant or small) that we are entertaining will fall away, and cannot intimidate us. Just like David with Goliath!

  29. I just listened to the lecture in the link at the top of this page. When I saw it was 56 minutes, I almost was going to put it off until later but am so glad I didn't. It's a most profound look into the life of Mary Baker Eddy and I strongly urge everyone to take the time to watch and listen.

  30. Thank you, Chet, for this inspiring message today. I know that God, divine Love is present

and has the power to defeat any difficulties that I may encounter today. As I understand that

God gives me the strength and understanding to know that evil is nothing, and that I have nothing to

fear, then I am at peace.

  31. How beautiful your words are Chet!!! Thank you for the precious substance of your message!!
Lots of Love to the DLCommunity!

  32. Lynn from CT
Thank you so mch! I have been struggling with an issue that has engrossed me with fear & doubt. This lift has finally helped me turn the corner.

  33. Thanks!!!

  34. Amen. thank you Chet. And of course, thanks to those who share.

  35. Encouraging and powerful words!
    Thank you very much, Chet!

  36. Thanks to all. Run to meet our goliaths...as I tried several times to use the shift key to capitalize the G in goliath, it just wouldn't do that. Then I realized that is just what we are talking about!! It doesn't deserve the cap does it! I love the image of, no matter what, running toward. Especially since recently I have not been doing that.

  37. Thank you.

  38. Chet , this is a really wonderful Lift. It's always so good to read through the Comments, and see what the others are taking away. For me it was "getting to know God's name, God's nature through the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's Writings. . . " I just love that in each Daily Lift that the lecturer can still focus on something we need to know about God and ourselves as His reflection, His precious children. His totally loved children! With continued help to holiness, one day I, too, will be able to RUN with enough love to heal whatever comes into thought. Mrs Eddy encouraged us to heal without discrimination and instantaneously.
Many thanks Nate and the Daily Lift team and for the prayers and demonstrations that give rise to the great comments. Are we coming in to our fifth year? Outpourings of gratitude!

  39. Thank you so much for it's just what I needed today.

  40. Thank you one and all.

  41. Absolutely what I needed today as I fight my own Goliath. Armed now with the inspiration and allness of God's love this so-called giant will be defeated.
Thank you Chet and thanks to all for the healing comments.

  42. Knowing God's allness and ever presence has helped me slay many a dragon!Thank you for this important reminder!!

  43. Wow! Thank you so much Chet.I'm so grateful for that strong message. I hope I can run like David to face whatever giant of a challenge faces me today! Love Rosie

  44. Just the word that I needed! Our God is bigger than any giant, He is the Almighty. What mountain (of error) dares to raise it's head in the presence of Omnipotence?
Zech 4:6,7 says: "...‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. 7 ‘Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!..."
I replace the name of Zerubbabel in this verse with mine and declare my victory over error.
Thank you Chet for this very uplifting reminder.

Thank you Chet for this uplifting reminder. Love your contribution Nela, thanks!

  46. Thank you, Chet, for this great, inspiring, clear, and very helpful Lift!

  47. Thanks for this message of courage, strength, conviction and victory Chet!

  48. Nothing can be against the "conviction" of "allness and greatness of God". I need remembering this. Thank you Chet.

  49. In reality there are no giants that can harm a divine idea of God. In fact the only giant to speak of are enormously great people like Jesus who was a giant of goodness toward his followers, Mother Teresa who gave her self to helping others. Or better yet, a 14 year old girl, Malala Yousefzai who spoke up bravely against evil. These are the only, and many others, are the only giants of good to speak of.

  50. Thank you Chet,
I have always appreciated the confidence that David must've had in facing Goliath with nothing but a sling and a stone refusing the other available armaments and relying solely upon God to deliver him.

But I used to wonder why he chose "five smooth stones" to take with him. Was he fearful that God's power would be insufficient to defeat the giant in the first attempt or that it would take God multiple times to overcome error?

Finally I realized that while David trusted God completely, he did not trust himself completely. Perhaps he was afraid he might miss or that his involvement would interfere with God's plan?

Well that certainly sounds like a giant problem trying to tell us that while God might be great we are still fallible and incapable of the same demonstration that Jesus required of his followers. Such intimidation contributes to defeat.

Christian Scientists understand that Jesus did not perform the miracles, but that the law of God did. This realization proves every one of us is capable of defeating the seeming giants in our lives, not by any power or skill of our own, but by throwing aside our sense of mortal involvement and letting God accomplish the task for us.

We must get (our mortal sense of ourselves and others) out of the way and relinquish the field of battle, with its seeming giants of this mortal dream, to God. Thus we have no need to carry stones or throw them.

  51. Thanks. I've listened twice now. This was perfect for me today. I am the one doing the service in my Christian Science church tonight, and David's encounter with Goliath is in the readings. The idea of the readings is that we can have confidence in all our tasks because God is all good. There was an article called "Confidence" in the March 1903 issue of The Christian Science Journal that was helpful in thinking about this topic. It was considered so good about basic ideas, it was republished in the first Journal of the new century, January 1, 2000. Here's a link to it from JSH on-line in the original Journal. I hope everyone can link to it from here.

  52. Sometimes growing older and all the beliefs that come with it can seem like a giant stomping down on us, but this lift and the example of Caleb in the Bible lesson this week are both wonderful reminders of our real identity as God's reflection: ageless, free, fearless, and forever new.

  53. Thank you Chet. I had to read your Lift twice to receive the Blessings.
When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands, man knows that with God all things are possible.
    Blessings <3

  54. Thank you, Chet. One of the best things about these Daily Lifts - they close the circle between today and yesterday and tomorrow - reminding us that the patriarchs of old have already met and shown dominion over any challenges that may arise today - be it Jonah in this week's Lesson - or David in this Daily Lift... and all that is required is our faith and obedience.

  55. Thank You!

  56. Thank you, Chet!

  57. I shall overcome the demon, the red dragon, with the christ consciousness

  58. Thank you so much, Chet.
I'm so grateful for the message and the timeliness of this DL.

  59. Thank you!

  60. Thanks, Marilyn #51! I found the Article, "Confidence" by Martha Harris Bogue, in the Second Anthology of Classic Articles, published by the Christian Science Publishing Society.

  61. Thanks so much, Chet. This one really speaks to where I have always lived in my heart with Christian Science. I totally agree that the main enemy is always doubt and fear. And being filled with the conviction that God, divine Love is all and evil is nothing is the core of the spiritual understanding that heals. No problem we're facing, no matter how huge, is bigger than ALL. So the goal in healing is to be in that state of thought that David was in -- to "succeed in wholly removing the fear" (S&H 411) with Love.

  62. Thanks, Chet....I needed that! w/Love, Christa

  63. I love this message, Chet!! And I have to share this very relevant gospel song called Giants by Donald Lawrence. It says "Giants do die! The bigger they are, the harder they fall!!" The song conveys how we can run out with that same spirit of David and praise God because we know through God's power we already have the victory over whatever giants seem to be bringing us down. And clearly, as Chet mentioned, the song is not talking about people but about challenges that seem insurmountable. Nothing is too hard for God. The song says "Let God arise; giants die!!" I know it might sound a little violent, but remember, we are talking about taking down challenges or anything that hinders us from progressing! That stuff has to go! It is powerless before God's presence. Check out the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9EyLBcehQA

  64. Thanks Chet and the DL commenters - so helpful for what would like to be my current "problem" - but this just reinforces the knowledge that with God all is possible - actually, with God, all is done and well!

Thanks to Bevi for locating the Confidence article - I'm off to my Church Reading Room tomorrow to read and study!

  65. 50, Michael, Mrs Eddy's says what the five smooth stones symbolize. In S&H, p 288, she writes, "The chief stones in the temple of Christian Science are to be found in the following postulates:" and she states 5 postulates, any one of which can surely destroy a giant, or any kind, of error. These stones are also the antidote to the five physical senses, and surely Goliath, in all his boasting, didnt see that coming, as surely as David did, and is why he didnt doubt himself as he ran to meet Goliath in this anti-climactic epic battle.

Divine Love always has more than enough to defeat error; needing only one stone but gathering five symbolizes this. The Bible bears this out many times. And the reverse is true: if we think we need five stones, it is proven in our experience that we need only one.
I thought there was another place where Mrs Eddy symbolizes each stone w a quality of God, but I couldn't find it. But I just wanted to say I don't think David doubted himself because of his pure, eager trust in God.

Also, welcome whole-heartedly to #3! Love having you!
And thank you Tony Martin for your response.
And as always, thank you all!

    Thanks Chet!

  66. Love this lift, and the way it was delivered with such gentle confidence. Thank you, Marilyn (51) for drawing our attention to the article "Confidence", and thank you Bevi (60) for pointing out that it is in Anthology II. I don't have JSH online, but I do have the anthology, and although I had read it before, it made even more sense to me now. It is relevant to the reading I am doing tonight, and so it has a special kind of inspiration. God is always with us throughout our "trials", and it is easy to forget that He is always at hand to help us, and guide us through them safely. However, he is so loving and forgiving that if we do forget and do something or say something out of line, He is always ready to forgive and lead us forward. What a wonderful God we have, and a wonderful Science to use.

Thank you for all the wonderful responses - I always find them helpful and inspiring.

  67. Thank you Chet.......looks like it hit the spot for a lot us today

  68. Thank you Chet! What a wonderful lift; something to joyfully ponder today, and something to inspire our service this evening.

  69. Thanks Chet...you hit the TARGET!

  70. Thank You for this powerful message. Such sweet Simplicity on which to base our day.

  71. David got 5 stones, but only used one. I heard a historian speak on this subject.
He said it was not a lack of confidence on David's part. But because Goliath had
4 brothers who were also giants, and David was prepared to slay them all.

  72. Thank you.

  73. Yes, David's confidence in God enabled him to face the giant Goliath. It is a most useful lesson on how to face fear and defeat a giant corporeal tyrant. David's confidence in God not only made him popular as a successful warrior, and eventually a king, but as a musician, as author of much of the Book of Psalms, which has brought so much blessing and healing to the world over the centuries.
Thank you Chet for magnifying David's confidence in God this morning.
It reminds me of a statement by Nathan Talbot; "If we face down the impersonal impulse ... to see God's creation as vulnerable to evil actions, we'll find ourselves better protected. And ultimately, we'll find all of society itself fully secure." (The Christian Science Sentinel July 15, 2013 "Defusing the bombs").

  74. I love the healing thought of being conscious of the all-power and all-presence of God. Every healing stems from that sense of dominion that is easy to say and takes much consistent spiritual growth. Thank you for the encouragement.

  75. Sometimes it seems as if I've been fighting a Goliath for a long time, but I'm beginning to see that what I've actually been doing is running away from it instead of running to meet it. I have avoided the confrontation because I didn't feel that I had the right armor (thoughts) to win the battle. It helps enormously to think of running to meet this Goliath as being "filled with the allness of God" and being "conscious of the all-power and all-presence of God." Thank you for these battle strategies and most importantly for the assurance that the ''APPARENT enemies" will just "fall away." That means, of course, that the accuser is not really there.

  76. Thanks so much Chet-perfect.

  77. Courage, conduct, perseverance, curiosity and not conforming include "awakening to the immense importance of a right mental attitude in his relations with others" (csjournal). Thanks DL.

  78. Thank you Chet and all. Beautiful!

  79. Dear Chet, how much I needed this lift! I directly gave it in German to an angel friend who seems to fight such a big giant, and it comforted both of us so much. thank you!

  80. Thank You Chet for this wonderful Lift today!!

  81. Good job. Nice lift.

  82. Yes, God's goodness is greater than the giants that tell us to be afraid or that good is impossible to achieve.

  83. I feel mentally stronger from the healing strategy of your lift, Chet. Thank you. Number 75--your lift also really hit the nail on the head about not wanting to sometimes meet things head on. Postponement doesn't help or heal at all. El Paso Patt

  84. Thanks ... I will be running out to meet my giant. Great lift !

  85. Very good message Chet, thank you so much,.and love to all.

  86. David approached the giant with the conviction that comes from within. His faith in God gave him the impulse he needed to defeat any situation, no matter how giant it looked, let alone a man.

His motive was noble, his people needed to be saved from slavery, and he was conscious of the all-power and all-presence of God, and he understood —as Jesus did— that “…the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” John 14:10

Juan 14:10

  87. Thanks to everyone on the reinforcing comments about the five stones. Good insights.

In some cases there may be some reluctance on the student's part to recognize that their participation is incidental since God is the only activity going on and he is defeating the Giants, by actually making molehills out of the mountains. I guess the point I was trying to make is we should never be fearful or lack confidence that the error will not be overcome just because we are a youth in this great journey of Divine Science. We are merely passengers and observers of God's divine unfoldment.

Thanks to everyone for the continued sharing and support in reinforcing these Lift's. They make us all Giants in God's army of Christian soldiers.

  88. Thanks Chet--as always, spot on! Thanks also to #65 Steve and #71 for further explanation of why 5 stones--as I was trying to recall where I had heard or read both of these accounts during the past year.

  89. Thank you so much for this Lift , it is very helpful!

  90. Heartfelt thanks to you Chet, for today's lift. Earlier today I was in conversation with an agnostic of gigantic conviction. I meekly summized we are all a reflection of God, however we interpret him/her.

  91. Thank you Chet, just very useful and practical as always. Connect to God and the giants just disappear...

  92. Wow! I am in awe of this timely message and comments. We received a registered letter from a well-known doctor declaring my husband's diagnosis as incurable, but needing immediate shots to prolong life. (My husband is now fully relying on Christian Science.) One of the comments referred to Zechariah 4: verses 6 and 7. Such a bold help!

Thank you sincerely to everyone who makes the Daily Lift available to feast upon.

  93. Thank you, thank you Chet for your Daily Lift. Not only do I appreciate the message but your vocal inflections are so inpiring and up lifting. Thank you again for that cup of cold water.

  94. thank you chet

  95. Well said, Chet! I love the story about David & the king's armor. Thank you.

  96. Thanks #65 and all daily Lifters. Thanks Chet and the beloved Mother church.

  97. Great just what I needed to hear. Thanks Chet.

  98. We can all armor ourselves with the same Christ which armed David.
    Thank you for this reminder.
    Tom in MI.

  99. This really said something to me Chet. I am putting Gods armor on. Thanks

  100. Wonderful, thank you Chet! I really appreciate your podcast! It helps to keep me of "sound Mind". :)

  101. Thank you

  102. Oh, Chet. How wonderful! I have been deeply fearful of the latest threats by the so-called "Giant" of Al-Qaeda until the Bible story about the people's concern over all the enemy surrounding Elisha, where he said, "They that be with us, are MORE than they that be with them". I will continue working with that and other related truths through out the tools provided by our Revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. Thank you one and all. False Evidence Appearing Real. Lovingly, AnnonymousN, in St. Pete

  103. Wonderful and so helpful. Thanks so much!
