  1. Thank you Mary Alice for this beautiful and powerful Lift. The calming, influencing presence of the Christ is always with us. In fact it is actually where we abide. This is not a place that we travel to or run to- we are already there. Mortal mind tries to trick us into believing that the world and our lives are chaotic places that are out of control. We change our environment by changing our thinking .Mary Baker Eddy says in S&H page 506,"The calm and exalted thought or spiritual apprehension is at peace."

  2. Thank you for this message of order and healing. We live in the kingdom of heaven/harmony, as our spiritual sense tells us. Looking forward to the ordering and healing influence of that spiritual fact today!

  3. That was most enlightening and helpful. Thank you.

  4. Thank you Mary Alice for reminding me that wherever I go today and whoever I meet we all live in the infinite and eternal presence of God from whom I cannot be lost because as Mrs Eddy tells us:

If God, the All-in-all, be the creator of Christianity
the spiritual universe, including man, then everything

6 entitled to a classification as truth, or Science, must be
comprised in a knowledge or understanding of God, for
there can be nothing beyond illimitable divinity.

No chaos today in my experience. Just the divine order of the cosmos.

What a wonderful thought to carry with me.

  5. Thank you for this lift. I often have the need for calmness, because I respond with mortal mind of anxiety and absence of love for myself.
Looking at God's work in nature with the sun glinting on the leaves can restore my equilibrium and centre my thoughts on God's love for me and God's plan for me.
How important this calmness is to know God!

  6. Thank you, a perfect insight.

  7. Shoo how interesting and inspiring. Thank you so much .
Lots of to all Daily Lifters

  8. Cosmos: the universe conceived as an orderly and harmonious system, contrasting with chaos.

MBE saw this, she said: “The chaos of mortal mind is made the stepping-stone to the cosmos of immortal Mind.” UN 56:1

Although we might seem to be in the midst of chaos—or mortal mind—we need only turn to God, to immortal Mind, to find clarity and order.
Understanding this many prophets made their own demonstrations of God’s power, though their reliance in God.

Jesus healed practically anything for his reliance on divine law, through his example we too can organize our lives.

  9. Thank you!!

  10. a most timely and powerful uplift . Thank you Mary Alice for this much needed bounty of thought .

  11. A wonderful uplifting -lift. Thank you Mary Alice. While I was listening, I had to smile to myself, because we had just come back from a walk through the 'Cosmos', which are flowers that grow wild anually in South Africa in the Autumn, which have the most beuautiful, etherial colours.
The bushes grow tall and when one is in amongst them and walking through the fields where they grow, it feels almost as if nothing else exists, which is true of course of the real cosmos, that we heard about in the lift this morning.

  12. Thank you for this great Lift. Just what I need for this day and every day. Many thanks to all.

  13. Informative and inspiring too.
    Thank you.

  14. Many thanks Mary Alice for this revealing definition of the word cosmos. Yes. "We can all turn to God, to immortal Mind, to find clarity and order... the calming healing power that comes from relying on the presence of God, good." "For in him we live, and move, and have our being;" (Acts 17:28). "In atmosphere of Love divine,/ We live, and move, and breathe;/ Though mortal eyes may see it not,/ 'Tis sense that would deceive." (Christian Science Hymnal #144).

  15. Rejoicing that seeming chaos is a stepping stone to understanding the presence of order, harmony, all embracing Love in our lives! Thanks Mary Alice and DL friends for this.

  16. Thank you for this very timely lift!

  17. Thank you for this vital and powerful Lift. Realizing that we live in the Cosmos of Divine Mind gives us the authority to see ourselves as whole, complete and harmonious, an 'active portion of one stupendous whole' (My p 165).

  18. Another thank you Mary Alice and everyone who has shared this morning. How comforting to realize WE live in the orderly cosmos, not in what appears to be the chaos of mortality.

  19. Thanks so much, Mary Alice, for enlightening me on the meaning of cosmos. I'll now include cosmos along with the kingdom of heaven where I live and move and have my being. One of my favorite hymns is #49 and especially the last verse, "Drop Thy still dews of quietness, Till all our strivings cease, Take from us now the strain and stress, And let our ordered lives confess The beauty of Thy peace.

  20. Wonderful inspiration to start my day, Mary Alice! Thanks for shedding new light on the cosmos!

  21. I am also grateful to understand that chaos is a deceitful lie and that our prayers can help us realize the presence of the spiritual cosmos. Sometimes, when I watch the news or read the local papers I have to make an effort to understand this. Now I understand that I only need to turn to God as naturally as flowers turn to the sun...

  22. This is so helpful to me and something I had never considered before--cosmos vs. chaos! It was exactly what I needed today! Thank you!

  23. Thank you, Mary Alice, for, “We live in the cosmos … ‘the universe conceived as an orderly and harmonious system contrasted with chaos’ … where we truly ‘live and move and have our being.’”

    Wow! This is BIG!!!

So, we’re already in the cosmos. When we seem to be in chaos, we can reclaim harmony / at-one-ment / “as in heaven, so on earth” quickly and easily. What changes is our level of awareness. The move from chaos to cosmos is a conscious choice. The Christian Science dual and impersonal pastor – the Bible and Science and Health, has been a reliable guide for me, for example:

“… God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (I Tim 1:7).

“When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious — as Life eternally is — can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony” (S&H 495).

I am deeply grateful for Mrs. Eddy’s steadfast consecration of her life, which has given me / us a glimpse of what it is to be “joint-heirs with Christ” (Rom 8:17)

  24. Thank you for the lift today and to know that Divine Mind controls all.

  25. Thank you Mary Alice for this meaningful lift, so perfect for me today.

  26. Thank you, Mary Alice! In packing to get ready to Move, it feels right now like there is chaos, but I know it's only a stepping stone to the ever-present cosmos and peace of Immortal Mind - my true Home!

  27. Thank you Mary Alice, for such a great Daily Lift. It would be tempting to think that chaos was there first, but nothing is present other than God and His perfect spiritual idea. The turbulence will do whatever it can to distract and distort, but "In the beginning, God. . . " and that has never changed.
Thank you Nate and the production team, with that precious final announcer!
Many thanks to the Lecturers and the family of Daily Lifters.

  28. Thank You for this reminder of the powerful Love we have from our Creator....

  29. Such surprises in the dictionary, new meanings illumined in thought. And thank you to the sweet child who identified the copyright today.

  30. What a beautiful examination of our place in the universe! The insight to understand the reality of the cosmos and the unreality of inharmonious chaos is a wonderful reminder of who and where we are in our galaxy. Thank you, dear Mary Alice.

  31. Thank you. This is wonderful and helpful.

  32. What enlightenment. Never thought about cosmos that way. Thank you.

  33. Wonderful lift! When we think of war, famine, terror, sickeness and any other type of chaos, we know that it is not real but the unreality of motal thinking - has nothing to do with spiritual existence where we really live. We can be lifted above this seeming discord for ourselves and others to live in the harmonious cosmos of Spirit and bring healing to what physical sense suggest to us as real.
This morning I was thinking how much Jesus prayed for himself and others. He is our teacher and to follow him, we must be willing to give prayer a major role in our day. This is the real and eternal means for seeing past the mortal dreams for me.

  34. What a beautiful explanation of cosmos - truly fresh and new for Spring. Thank you ever so much. Nan

  35. Thank you.

  36. this is so good to think on today, thank you so much

  37. Thank you Mary Alice, I always did like the thought of cosmos as harmony. Good Daily Lift and all other Lifters, thank you.

  38. So very helpful. Thanks!

  39. Thank you for this inspiring Daily Lift. Besides inspiring us these Lifts also bring healing.

  41. Dear Mary Alice, Thank you so much for these grand ideas that are spoken so beautifully and and touch the heart so meaningfully.

  42. Thank you very much Mary, for addressing such a clear and powerful lift!

  43. Thank you, Mary Alice, and fellow Lifters. I appreciated this reminder that we actually live in the orderly cosmos and the wonderful promise that even the mortal chaos in our experience is aiding us in ascending to this true view. The Lift certainly provided much cosmos peace last week, thank you.

  44. Today I am going from the chaos of mortal mind into the cosmos of Divine Love and stay there. Actually I've always been there I just had to wake up and realize it.
Thank Mary Alice for the gentle wake up call.
I am so appreciative for these Daily Lifts and all those who bring them to us.

  45. This is such a stark contrast -- chaos as opposite to cosmos. Thanks for these strong insights Mary Alice.

  46. Thank you, Mary Alice. I'm listening today about an apartment lease and a potential house purchase, so it's lovely to know that I already reside in perfect order...in the cosmos.

Some friends of mine who aren't Christian Scientists seemed to be struggling for quite a long time to find the right place to live. They had plenty of money, but just weren't sure where to live. I suggested to them that they first clarify their purpose(s), and then choose whatever housing would best support those purposes. They did that, and almost immediately they found a perfect house...the right size, the right price, the right location. It was so simple.

  47. Calming start to one endless day, thankyou Mary Alice.

  48. Wow! Did I need this. What a wonderful explanation! Love it...

  49. Thanks Mary Alice for clarifying my thoughts on the 'cosmos' and the spiritual order understood
    and demonstrated via Christian Science.

  50. Thank you for this reminder to turn back to God even when there is chaos in the scene!

  51. Thank you Mary Alice. Like Bevi #26, I too am on the thresh hold to moving into a new home...and commented yesterday about being tired of living midst the "chaos" of boxes and empty cupboards.

And how it important it is for me and all of us to be reminded of Paul's words "In Him we live and move and have our being." or as Malcom's (#14) hymn reminder says "In atmosphere of Love divine, we live and move and breathe. No chaos there!

PS: I often thought of Carl Sagan in connection of the word cosmos. Now I will think of God instead.

  52. Only cosmos, never chaos. For me, this is a great way to handle the claim of the sequester effects! Thank you.

  53. How many times have I felt the chaos of mortal mind and didn't know how to deal with it. That was way in the past before knowing about C/S. now that isn't so. I am able to deal with the lie at all times by the simple refusal to react when I hear it, see it or feel it, and by knowing it's non-existence. This is how I prayed for Boston last week. I am also praying for this 19 year old whom I believe was also a victim by excepting a wrong suggestion and not being led to rightfully deal with it.

  54. Chaos and Cosmos, opposites! Who knew? This is marvelous insight for me. Many thanks!

  55. P.S.

Thank you, #23 nela, for that beautiful healing "treatment." Also, #32 Barbara in Maine, for the reminder to pray all day.

We're all treating world thought, and I am very thankful for the support that I find here each day.

  56. Thank you for sharing your inspiration and insight on cosmos. So we can see it as the spiritual vision we know already as the promised land, the secret place, the kingdom of heaven. I checked out Eddy's other uses of the word; she always got it right. Nice to be reminded of yet another prophecy. Many thanks to all who contribute daily.

  57. Thank you for such a timely lift. The recent events in Boston and Texas remind us that evil always claims a place to occur. What if we didn't give it one? "Because you have made the Lord God your habitation, there shall no evil befall thee..... No plague shall come near thy dwelling place" (Psalm 91). Mrs. Eddy tells us that evil is not "person, place, or thing," but simply a belief. We must claim our true dwelling place--the Cosmos--as part of our daily work.

  58. This was so very enlightening and inspiring. How wonderful to turn not only our individual lives over to the harmony of the divine cosmos but also the whole earth and mankind. Thank you!

  59. Thank you.

  60. This morning I was happy to find your Daily Lift of cosmos vs. chaos. This is something I will continue to work with today and perhaps many more days --- it is so fitting for some praying I'm doing. I thought of the idea of the cosmos with everything in its proper order of unfolding the right thought at the right moment in the right way, displacing the chaotic confusion of mortal mind --- no time factor, just the uninterrupted, forever developing of the orderliness of Eternity.

  61. Thank you for beautiful message.

  63. How uplifting----wonderful insightful and healing. Thank you!! Merri

  64. Wonderful clarification and insight! Gives one a more precise way of seeing God's cosmos of eternal harmony as not a future thing, but present here and now, including all of us in it. Thank you so much.

  65. O, this goes straight to my heart - such a wonderful lift to bless us on our way today and everyday, such sure promises from the Bible and the examples you have given. Thank you for this view of 'cosmos' which i must admit have never looked up in the dictionary. I am going to find the reference where MBE mentioned it as I must have missed it during my readings.... Thank you for this guided lift... I am very grateful to God, Good.

  66. That angel voice at the conclusion of this was like icing on the cake...love and gratitude to all who make this Daily Lift happen...love the idea of cosmos as being our true home. No hint of chaos there. Beautiful, Mary Alice Rose!

  67. Wonderful and very helpful to better understanding. Thanks. JB

  68. Dear Mary Alice, THANK YOU! The Greek word Cosmos has still another meaning besides order, and that is jewel, or decoration, or ornament. This is where our word "cosmetics" is derived from. This hints to cosmos as a synonym for beauty. Isn't it fascinating that the ancient Greeks had the same word for order and beauty? This insight might be an inspiration to our prayers for the struggling people of modern Greece.

  69. What a good illustration - making stepping stones out of mortal chaos in order to reach the harmony of heaven or the cosmos.
It means working at levelling the rocks of mortality with the hammer of humility and the solvent of love to make safe steps for progress.
What a good incentive for patience and persistence. Thanks a lot.
    P.S. Loved the copyright announcement!!

  70. Thank you Mary Alice.

  71. Awesomely inspiring lift. Heartfelt thanks.

  72. Cosmos and chaos as opporsites is a revealing thought and an important one to comtemplate today. Thank you for this thought impelling message.

  73. Thank you! We already got our spiritual tools, Our beautiful Bible Lesson in the early morning, that ascend our thought to Heaven.
HEAVEN: Harmony. Thanks to Daily lift,

  74. Many thanks, Mary Alice, for this wonderfully uplifting and illuminating idea. What gems such as this are all around, waiting to be discovered. And thanks, too, to Ulrich (#67) for further expanding the meaning of cosmos to include beauty. Hymn 329 in the Christian Science Hymnal links the two ideas: "In beauty, grandeur, order, / His handiwork is shown" (Frederic W. Root).

  75. thank you for this good reminder that impacts career paths also--where we live and move and have our being with joy.

  76. Thank you!

  77. Mary Alice, thank you for this timely and comforting uplift. It lifts our thoughts to the reality of our true dwelling place. And many thanks to all who make these daily lifts possible. What a Blessing!

  78. I love this "Lift"! It reminds me of something a Sunday school teacher share with me years ago, which I've been thinking about lately and is one of my favorites! From Science and Health
(P.442:16-18) "Neither animal magnetism nor hypnotism enters into the practice of Christian Science, in which truth cannot be reversed, but the reverse of error is true."
Chaos often seems to involve both the elements of "animal magnetism" (monkey see, monkey do) and "hypnotism" (being influenced to act contrary to natural inclinations by external mental suggestions and influences imposed on the subject) and so turmoil results, as we just saw last week. But, what became more evident to me after remembering that statement was, all of the goodness demonstrated by those who jumped in to help and save others! By so doing, and focusing on these selfless acts of kindness and love, it totally reversed with the truth about God's goodness in his creation, the "adamant of error" trying to claim power through outrage and fear. Thank you for reminding us of the difference again today, dear Mary Alice! This one is another keeper!

  79. Thank you Mary Alice.........

  80. Good one! Cosmos... greater than chaos... Harmony.... greater than discord.... thank you! --And amazingly profound for a thinker of the 19th century!! --and The Christ! Thanks again. -Rob

  81. Wow.. Love it! Cosmos the orderly system! Spiritual visionary, Mary Baker Eddy showed us the way from chaos to cosmos. Wonderful uplift Mary Alice. Thank you.

  82. thank you Mary Alice for your LIFT!

I see only divine order in the cosmos. We are born from light and love and joy and music and laughter. The stars fly by in complete harmony.

We do live and move and have our being in the atmosphere of love divine.

  83. Remembered your Lift as I drove into downtown Chicago in commuter traffic -- it was a peaceful, calming thought! -- thanks again!

  84. So good. After I listened this morning (it's now well after dinner time) I thought that I wanted to think about the ideas you share. Chaos or Cosmos. What was I choosing throughout my day? Claiming that I am and everyone else is the image and likeness of God is choosing cosmos. I am so glad that we know through the study of Christian Science that we are free to choose reality, the harmony of divine Love. It's been a very enlightening day -- a day full of joy, activity and prayer. I even answered a bit of a marketing call with patience and intelligence and firmness. After I hung up, I just thanked God for His loving answer for me and the caller. Now that's cosmos.

  85. This is a fantastic Lift! Thank you for sharing such a razor-sharp insight!

  86. Wonderfully brought out..... Thanks.....

  87. Perfect reminder, thank you for being a "Bright Star"
    June Nettles Clark, C.S.

  88. Thank you so much for this 'new' look at two words - at least for me!

  89. Thank you all for your comments on this Lift. It's amazing how the definition of one word can open up a whole new line of spiritual thinking.

This is also what I love about the definition of Man in the chapter "Recapitulation" in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It begins: "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness. The likeness of Spirit cannot be so unlike Spirit. Man is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science."

I am so grateful for the understanding Christian Science brings of the spiritual nature of God and His creation, man and the universe -- the spiritual cosmos!

  90. Very powerful... thank you for this message today!

  91. I don't long to be in God's cosmos, I love to be in God's cosmos.....Thank you Mary Alice.

  92. One more thank you, Mary Alice. So thought-provoking.

  93. I thank you so much for your interesting and helpful lift.

  94. How wonderful for you to point out to us the definition of cosmos -- the order and harmony of creation. Mortal mind tries to tell us there is disorder and discord, but it is just a lie, nothing more. God's beautiful creation of divine order is all we can ever truly know and experience. Thank you, Mary Alice, for this healing Lift. Thank you, BoL, and thank you, dear Mother Church.
