2/21: Choose God's thoughts

2/21: Choose God's thoughts

  1. Thank you Ginny for this very encouraging Lift and of how important it is for us to understand that we have the power to choose the right thoughts. In fact, our thoughts determine our outward experience. Mortal mind not only tries to tell us what we think, but also what we see, feel, and hear! Choosing the right thoughts is like choosing the right ingredients to cook a great meal, or the right numbers to solve a math problem, or the right notes in music. When we choose the right thoughts, "God's thoughts" the results will always be harmonious, and a blessing to all. Thank you again.

  2. Thank you for this great lift, that is such a helpful reminder.

  3. I like to pull a carrot from the ground and eat it in the field. Also my friend in West Concord, Massachusetts showed me the simple pleasure of carrying a small sugar jar into the ripening tomato vines and eating one with sugar. These are things I learned to do as a child, and my neighbors were the generous benefactors who were so poor, financially. Nothing beats simplicity and generosity. Later my friend was drafted, and I was not.

  5. Thank you so much for this Lift. I have listened to it 3 times this AM. I have been helping a family member seeming to be going thru an unpleasant experience and have said that God is All in All therefore that is ALL and His thoughts are always going to His creation.. This just makes this True now. All is Good. Thanks much.

  6. "The Bible declares: "All things were made by Him [the divine Word]; and without Him was not anything made that was made" S&H 480:26

If God is good He can only create good and we must stop thinking God could send anything but good (we know a fountain doesn't give sweet water and bitter) James 3:11

"As vapor melts before the sun, so evil would vanish before the reality of good. One must hide the other. How important, then, to choose good as the reality!" S&H 480:31

By choosing good, positive thoughts we bless ourselves and others.
God's thoughts could only bless, nurture, edify.

CyS 480:33

  7. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Ginny! I love this analogy that we need to choose the thoughts we "ingest" as carefully as some people pick the food they buy at a grocery store. Using this same analogy, that would therefore make the Mother Church and its various branch churches the purest, most wholesome, and delicious "thought stores" available to all mankind! Thanks again for this wonderful analogy!

  8. Thank you, Ginny, for “Choose God’s thoughts … carefully … ‘choose good as the reality’ …”

Great “wake up call!!!” To leave “What WAS I thinking?” for “What AM I thinking?” To choose God’s thoughts BEFORE I speak or act! – and then “stay in touch” right along. LIVE as the image and likeness of God / all-Good / Love-itself!!! Isn’t that why I’m here? ;-)

“… glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good” (Rom 2:10).

“Proportionately as the people's belief of God, in every age, has been dematerialized and unfinited has their Deity become good; no longer a personal tyrant or a molten image, but the divine Life, Truth, and Love, — Life without beginning or ending, Truth without a lapse or error, and Love universal, infinite, eternal. This more perfect idea, held constantly before the people's mind, must have a benign and elevating influence upon the character of nations as well as individuals, and will lift man ultimately to the understanding that our ideals form our characters, that as a man ‘thinketh in his heart, so is he.’” (Peo 2:20).

“Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts” (S&H 261:4).

God is a very present help!

  9. Nice simple idea, thank you Ginny.

  10. Dear Ginny,

"Choice"is always ours. What we do with "choice"is so important in our spiritual journey. Thank you for this reminder.

  11. When I was growing up, without ever having even heard the words Christian Science, one of the most familiar statements from my elders was"Well, you can't help your thoughts, or what you are thinking"...I heard it over and over, and believed it...it wasn't until , as an adult and mother of a precious little girl, that I not only heard the words Christian Science, but immediately knew that it contained all the Truth I would ever need, that the possibility of choosing one's thoughts as scrupulously as one would choose one's friends, one's possessions, became evident to me...Thank God for Mrs. Eddy's persistent listening and recording of what she heard thru Christian Science,so that we, her followers so long after her time, and the many who will follow us, can know that we can, indeed control our thoughts, and thus our lives...our entire human experience...Thank you for the blessed Lift today...

  12. Thank you Ginny for today´s DL. Yes, we have to be very alert to see what are the thoughts we let in. Yesterday I was talking with my daughter and I made a comment that seemed quite innocent. Later she said to me: Mom, I think you should erase that thought because if we think something is true about some situation in our country, then it could be true about ourselves and we don´t want that into our experience because we know it is not the Truth. I am very grateful for these Daily Lifts and also for all the comments. Blessings to all!

  13. Many thanks Ginny for Love's prayer for all nations. Yes. "Divine Love's thoughts are wholesome and pure." "Word of Life, most pure, most strong,/ Lo, for thee the nations long;/ Spread, till from its dreary night/ All the world awakes to light." (Christian Science Hymnal #394).

  14. thank you so much Ginny, for this profound lift.Just minutes ago as I struggled with a sudden fear ,and turned to God to help have the right thoughts,an angel message insisted "put on the daily lift",so i obeyed and there you were to encourage me to insist for the right thought.!!!! Indded God IS with us always.
love and peace to all today, filled with right thoughts.

  15. Thank you for this wonderful reminder to choose and listen for God's thoughts.

  16. Thank you.

  18. Love this instant mail from Heaven . . . instant demonstration of God's always presence, love and healing of fear and false appearances . And we all get to witness first hand in the delivery of peace as with Ginny and Alex. ( # 13)

  19. Isn't it so comforting to know that even when we choose the wrong path, when we 'miss the mark', we are lovingly guided back to right thinking & acting. This weeks lesson assures of that very thing.

"The “still, small voice” of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe’s remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, “as when a lion roareth.” It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear."(Cit 6, 559:8-12)

We are never left alone to find our way but we are "All ... under the control of the one Mind, even God."(Cit 12, pg 544:16-17) When doubt & fear invade our thought, when we make the wrong choice, we can be assured that "Immortal ideas, pure, perfect, and enduring, are transmitted by the divine Mind through divine Science, which corrects error with truth and demands spiritual thoughts, divine concepts, to the end that they may produce harmonious results.'(Cit 13, 259:26)

"And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ."(Cit 20, II Thessalonians 3:5)

As someone explained this quote from S & H (pg 454: 18-19) this way, "Love" (1) "inspires," when we reject that it (2) "illumines," if we still don't see it then it (3) "designates" & if we still are blinded by self will then Christ takes our hand (4) "and leads the way", until we are all safely home and there is rejoicing in Heaven!!!

  20. Thank you so much, Ginny. It's been a challenge to fuss about with wrong thoughts, it is much more loving to myself and others to strive to listen to only God's thoughts, and to know that everyone can hear God's thoughts. How sweet that daughter [11] was to remind her mom that what we think of others or the world, we allow into our lives. Onward. I am most grateful for this Daily Lift.

  21. Thank You!

  22. Dear Ginny,

Thank you for the reminder to pay attention to my thoughts and what I'm admitting as reality! Sometimes it's too easy to go with the world flow and I always want to be awake to the truth.

  23. Love and thank you.

  24. Be always discerning towards what is good and best for myself and thus for all who I go about my day with. I so much want to be more discerning….truly thinking before I speak instead of just speaking what first comes to mind. Breaking habits is conscious work and so worth it. Thank you for the daily lift and the thoughts from many around the world that are helpful as well. All the best for a meaningful and discerning day!

  25. Beautifully expressed. Wonderful. A blessing to all. Thank you.

  26. Thanks so much, Ginny, for reminding us of the importance of choosing God's thoughts. Part of my praying each morning includes the poem, "In the morning" by Edith J. Clumpner (Sentinel, December 1, 1997). The second verse reads:

"And as I listen, watch, and pray,
God's thoughts will come. Throughout the day
His truth is here, His wisdom is mine,
To guide me with His love divine."

My part is to listen for that still small voice of God. I am so deeply grateful for Christian Science and these Daily Lifts with such inspiring messages and comments.

  27. Sincerest thanks, Ginny, for this vital reminder, as well as for all your many healing contributions. Thanks, too, Daily Lift team & Lifters!

  28. I love the idea that no matter how many thoughts of fear, inadequacy, what if's seem to be coming at us each moment, they are still individual, coming one at time, and we have the God-given right and ability to put them down one at a time, choosing God's thoughts, acknowledging only what is good and true about ourselves and others in every situation.

Jer 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end"--and that "expected end", coming from God, is always and only good.

A while back I looked up the words "famished" and "affections". "Famished"= exhausted by want of substance, "affections"= desires, inclination inseparable from it's object. What are we starved for most, what is our greatest desire but to know God, good and our relationship to her completely. And who feeds those affections? God! I'm shopping in that grocery store!

Thanks for this reminder to carefully choose the right thoughts--I'll be making right choices today--and everyday!

  29. Thank you so much Ginny, for this really loving direction and guidance. And it doesn't mean we are done with only one trip to the market. We just keep cleaning and cleaning, until we know for certain there really is not one more speck to be removed. Until we wake up to the fact that we were always pure from before we thought we saw our need.
Thank you Nate and the production team; The Mother Church; and the Daily Lift sons and daughters.

  30. Just what I needed to hear today. Thank you.

  31. I am so very grateful for this beautiful reminder to be alert to choosing the right thought .
The Daily Lift is my first stop in the morning, then on to the Bible Lesson. What a wonderful way to start my day with these thoughts form God.

These Daily Lifts are such a joy, reaching out and blessing as I start my day. Thank you . thank you, thank you to all who give and share. .

  32. Thank you, also, Ginny. It is important that we choose God's thoughts, beholding Him, because these thoughts are identifying us in concord with His nature, as He knows us.

  33. Oh, that tastes so Good, Ginny, Thank You! "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is Good!" I just Love that Christian Science tells us that we are responsible for our thoughts and thus for our experience. "Choose ye this day whom ye will serve." We always have a choice - we are NOT helpless victims of mortal mind. "How long halt ye between two opinions?" Our Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson is our Daily Food for Good! Yum!

  34. Exactly! I love the anti-drug advertisement which came out several years ago. It suggested “Just say no” It is a great start. I love to cut off an intruding thought with a little chastising. “Hey, you’re clueless. Buzz off!” Maybe everyone doesn’t need to have a conversation with thoughts, but for the time being, I find it a good way to put my foot down. Eventually, I won’t need to do this.

But what really vaporizes intrusions is something more. Otherwise, we could drown out intruding thoughts with a good movie. (Tried that!). The old ways of reactive thinking must be hushed so that we can hear what we should hear. God, as divine Mind is ever providing the inspiration which is what we experience as peace, joy and healing. Persistent prayer is a very important welcome mat. But, then, what feels like a thought touches us and we KNOW that all is well.

When we are divinely, spiritually and frankly, privately told what we should know, God has answered us. At first, we may still hear the intruder’s knock. But we are beginning to realize that no one is there.

Thanks Ginny, and all you guys that contribute the most spot on inspired quotes!

  35. Thank you for this refreshing idea which also ties in with this week's lesson sermon in Christian Science which discusses choosing God, good, over evil. We certainly can make good and correct choices.

  36. So true and profound, something to practice constantly. Thankk you so much !!!

  37. Thank you so much Ginny for your inspiring thoughts. I had my day planned, before I read your message and now have done a complete turn.
    Blessings to all.

  38. Yes, it is more important to choose the "error free 0%evil" thoughts from God, than to study the % of fat on a food label. This lift is indeed food for thought. Thank you.
I liked #10 take that we can use this discrimination to help in choosing (and helping) friends and choosing possessions also.

  39. Thanks, Ginny love! We are indeed filled up full with all God's goodness, love, presence, power. Today!

  40. D-Indiana
I love the poem Lori (#26) quoted. And Nancy, (#34), I'm going to say when a wrong thought comes, You'r'e Clueless. Buzz Off, buzz off. I love it

11 Cor 10:5 "bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." --I've had a wonderful healing using this quote from 2nd Cor. We have to control our thoughts not just every hour or every minute, but every second.

  41. Just reading, cherishing and abiding by the opening words of this week's Bible lesson is a sure start to staying in the kingdom of God ... The verse reads "I am the Lord your God who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow". thank you Ginny for reminding us that we are our thoughts.

  42. Thank you so much Ginny.

  43. Very simple rule to live by: Since God is all good and created all good, then his thoughts must be all good. Therefore, isn't it logical that evil thoughts, hateful thoughts, warlike thoughts will only lead us to hell? So why spend even a second thinking that way?
    By TOBIAS A. WEISSMAN

  44. Thank you for the great analogy about reading the food label and wanting what is good for us and then reminding us to think the thoughts God gives us and what is good for us. Such a wonderful reminder to be aware, alert & put that into action. I just love all that you share with us. Thank you

  45. Just wonderful, Ginny! I've seeking to connect more authentically the core revelation of Christian Science -- that Mind, Spirit, LIfe, Love, God is now and always what is guiding and governing everyone and everything (including myself, my family and all those in any "trouble spot". And you have expressed how to do this beautifully.

  46. Just wonderful, Ginny! I have been practicing connecting more authentically with the core revelation of Christian Science -- that Mind, Spirit, Life, Love, GOD truly guides, guards, governs everyone and everything, including me, my family and those in "trouble spot." You have shown HOW to do this beautifully.

  47. Thank you, dear Ginny.

  48. Dear Ginny

Thank you for this encouragement! We can and must choose which "thought products" to buy into, and use. And I echo Margaret's message "Thank you Nate and the production team; The Mother Church; and the Daily Lift sons and daughters."

  49. Great lift...inspiring with practical insight for our daily demonstration of living C.S. I loved the comments, particularly helpful for me were #s 29, 34, and 40. Thanks Ginny and all the "lifters".

  50. Dear Ginny and all,

With deep gratitude for your healing inspiration and insights, I’d like to share with you my “early morning meal” (S&H 35:11), my “daily bread” (Matt 6:11) - this spiritual food that Love has fed me ;-) so far today …

“Choose God’s thoughts … carefully … ‘choose good as the reality’ …” (Daily Lift)

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” (JSH-Online Daily Thought - THIS WEEK'S SUBJECT: MIND - King James Bible - Philippians 2:5 - From the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson )

Question to self: What is “this mind?”

“Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy” (S&H 476:32).

Note to self: Behold the perfect man by choosing God’s thoughts … don’t be overwhelmed by “every [or any!] ill that flesh is heir to” … accept “that we are the children of God … heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ” (Rom 8:16,17) ... just let God be God to me and mine and all … Listen for Love leading me only “beside the still waters” (Ps 23) – Love-itself!!! with its “still small voice” (I Kings 19:12).

"How easily mends the moon" by Bunny McBride (Christian Science Sentinel, February 19, 2014)

... and as a benediction from our pastor:

    “Peace, be still” (Mark 4:39; S&H 144:22).

  51. Thank you for this very helpful analogy!

  52. Ginny Thank You sooo much!! ..Your lifts are so special especially this one, it's a keeper! ..Let's control our thoughts before they control us!!....putting GOD first in everything! When a thought has any trace of negativity let it go!..because only true love filled thoughts can really be ours to hold & cherish. Thank You all lifters every thought truly was from God, esp. Martin's (#1)..wow! spot on!
    Love to all : ) : )

  53. Thank you!!!!! SO very helpful.

  54. Thanks! Simple, clear, powerful, and gentle.
    Cheers of love and joy,

  55. This was the perfect reminder for me today! Thank you, Ginny, for the wonderful, practical ideas, as always.

  56. Thank you Ginny for your insightful lift. If we get our ego out of the way, ("it's all about me"syndrome), and listen humbly to God's voice and direction, we can avoid negative thinking. It is so simple and yet we turn away, and make life so complicated!
It reminds me of the song sung by Perry Como.
    "You gotta accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative an' latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In Between

You gotta spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
An' have faith, amen, or pandemonium's
Liable to walk upon the scene, amen"

  57. I will be listening for those thoughts that can lift us up above the need for just the right material food and feed us spiritually. Thanks Ginny. Ann Botts, Redlands, CA

  58. Thank you, Ginny, as always, for the shared inspiration that bids us, each one, to "stand porter at the door of thought" and carefully choose which thoughts we would allow to enter as "keepers", and which we would turn away as imposters -- unworthy to keep company with the pure, the good, and the true. This requires being familiar with the right, so as to be confident in turning away the wrong; and therein lies the discipline that allows us to hone the spiritual senses to recognize our native clime, so to speak. I am grateful for this reminder to keep on keeping on this way.....

  59. We have the RIGHT to choose GOOD! Yes!!

  60. Earlier this week, several Lifters shared familiar phrases learned as children that they treasured as adults ...e.g., "there is no spot where God is not." Related to Ginny's wonderful Daily Lift today, I'm grateful to a Sunday School teacher who taught our class to mentally "pick up error by the seat of its pants," and drop-kick it to its native nothingness. Picture with me a class of elementary (primary) school children drop kicking thoughts into the wastebasket, out the door, etc. It feels empowering to not only reject erroneous claims, but mentally remove them from the premises of consciousness! Now, as a Sunday School teacher, my class of little ones plays porter at the door of thought by stating a thought that approaches the door of our thoughts. If the thought isn't loving and good and therefore isn't from God, then we lock our door and throw away the key!

  61. Thanks, Ginny for this Lift of loving clarity and spiritual everyday/moment-by-moment direction! Thank-you, Lifters for your thought-provoking comments and DL team for your inspired production work!

  62. What a sweet and powerful reminder of the right to choose good as the reality and refuse every opposite suggestion. I love this! Thank you Ginny.

  63. Dear Ginny~thank you,so helpful!!
    Love to all

  64. Thx Ginny..".Let go and let God"...good lift,have a good weekend everyone,love to all...

  65. WOW what a vision; choosing the food based on the information on the label. Thank you Ginny. This lesson awakened the the reality of walking with Christ in the kingdom of God beholding all the infinite blessings, glorifying these blessings and gratefully expressing these blessings in the love of God and one another. This light so shines.......

  66. Every morning before I get out of bed, I repeat "there is only one Mind and I shall have no other mind before the Divine Mind." Establishing my day in this way and as a result all through the day I'm knowing that my every thought and action is guided by the one and only Mind. Thank you Ginny for your inspiring llift.

  67. Thanks Ginny,
Choose God, we need to remember God is All.
    Best prayer ever!

  68. Valuable Lift!! Thank you!!

  69. Thank you, Ginny. This was much needed today when animal magnetism is trying to push heaviness onto me. I can be light by accepting God's thoughts and no others. One Mind, the Divine Mind. What a wonderful reminder to choose God. Much love to all.

  70. Yes! So often on food labels the word "natural" appears (as if there an unnatural almond.) A great reminder that "God is natural good." And many thanks again for the delightful fiddle and guitar music!

  71. Thank you for this helpful message.

  72. Thank you. I had just been thinking yesterday about the statement "Select the things that go into your mind." Then today, I hear this. Perfect!

  73. What a great reminder! My morning started with some niggling thoughts involving resentment sadness anger self pity and so glad I opened up and whoosh! Let it it all go !! Thank you for this great lift off!! I needed it.

  74. Thank you so much Ginny for the inspiring lift.

  75. Thank you for the lift today and the helpful comments of the lifters.

  76. Glad to be reminded of choices like this. Thank you!

  77. Thank you all for your wonderful comments. What inspiration and insights you bring to the lifts :-) We are one and unified in our inspiration!

  78. Thank you for the important reminder and helpful delivery.

  79. Very helpful - thank you Ginny and all contributors. I find this quite a hard one to be constantly in listening mode for God's angel thoughts. It really means praying without ceasing, doesn't it. I need lots of practice, but I know it is well worth the effort. Mary Baker Eddy tells us to "keep our minds so filled with Truth and Love that sin, disease and death cannot enter them". I try!

  80. Thank you! It is so refreshing to know that we don't have to just accept thoughts that are tempting to believe, but that we do have a choice! We are never victims of heavy or burdensome thoughts!

  81. Wasn't it Jesus that said, "Get thee behind me satan." Even is we are tempted, we can know it can be corrected by the truth. Thank you for this Lift and comments. In Misc. Wrtings page 28 Ret & Intr. Mrs. Eddy says, "I had learned that thought must be spiritutalized, in order to apprehend Spirit. God Bless.

  82. Thanks!! Speaking of selecting, this is a PEACH!!! So appreciated!!

  83. Great lift. Very clear. Now we can see that people looking at labels is a step to them being more conscious about their thoughts.

  84. Ginny,
We shared this one with family who aren't students of Christian Science but could relate to the basic spiritual message. Thank you for your clear and insightful thoughts!

  85. Thanks Ginny for your lift-such a blessing to us all. "Mind governs all. That we exist in God ,perfect, there is no doubt." Miscellaneous writings page 6 Love to all and thanks for your comments!

  86. Recently I have been having a challenge with some relationships. I see from this clear Lift that I must be more attentive to MY thoughts to see and experience what is real and good. Up til now I was tending to think how to correct the others. Now I see it's eliminating "other" thoughts that don't have a source in Mind.

Thanks Ginny and all Lifters. When I can read all the comments, I never come away without help.

  87. Thank you! Such a wonderful thought! And great analogy. Your lecture in Escondido was wonderful. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see you that day. :))))
    Much Love!

  88. Ginny, Thank you. Good, God, can't be diminished.

  89. Thanks Ginny, God Bless: Keith in Boston

  90. Thank you Ginny. Comment 86 and today's Lift 03 March has helped me too.
