11/11: Romans 8:1-2

11/11: Romans 8:1-2

Christine Driessen's online video lecture "Healing with Scientific Certainty through the Christ" goes into greater depth on today's Daily Lift Bible passage. The other quote mentioned at the beginning of her Lift regarding Mary Baker Eddy's comment about Romans 8:1-2 is found in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist and Miscellany" on page 113:8.

  1. Thank you Christine for this beautiful Lift. It is reassuring to know that we don't have to wait for the "moving of the water", in other words for human circumstances to change, in order to experience healing. Our realization of the divine laws that govern man, the Christ-law, allows us to experience freedom from sin and suffering. When we come to understand that the so-called laws of mortal mind are simply made up of human, mortal beliefs and theories our task becomes easy, and our way clear. Thank you again.

  2. Domo Arigato Gozaimasu

  3. Such a blessing. What a special message. So comforting and reassuring. Thank you for the reminder!

  4. God doesn’t condemn His children.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” Romans 8:1, 2

I think God doesn’t condemn us, we condemn ourselves by sinning.
“Sin is its own punishment” S&H 53:14

The Christ understanding of perfect God, perfect men, frees us from the false laws of sin, suffering and death.

    ESPAÑOL
Dios no condena a Sus hijos.

  5. Thank you very much, dear Christine! This is a great starter for this day. And I can use it very well.
    Much love,
    Anni

  6. Dear Christine, thank you for the wonderful scripture from the Bible.

I also want to hold on too perpetually to this Truthful spiritual interpretation from Science and Health: In Christian Science there is never a retrograde step, never a return to positions outgrown S&H 74:29-30.

  7. Many thanks Christine for this very inspiring lift from Romans 8: 1-2. Yes. "The Christ understanding of perfect God, perfect man [and perfect church], frees us from the false law of sin, suffering and death." This is of particular concern where there is talk of downsizing church. "Be true and list the voice within,/ Be true unto thy high ideal,/ Thy perfect self, that knows no sin,/ That self that is the only real." (Christian Science Hymnal #20).

  8. Christine, Thank you.

  9. Thank you Christine for choosing these two verses for your Lift subject. I have often referred to the same verses when I have done something that I have regretted and falsely condemned myself for decisions that I have made. A practitioner first brought this to my attention many years ago and I am very grateful for that guidance.

  10. Thank you so much!

  11. Dear Christine What a joy it is to awake to the Truth
That our Life, my Life, your Life is hid with Christ in God
and we all can demonstrate NOW Christ is our Life
so come on lets take captivity captive today
and claim victory over mortality as God's beloved child
    AMEN

  12. Oh this is perfect, thank you so much, clear and beautiful.

  13. Thank you Christine. Your message are always clear and spot-on . . . and thought-invoking.

  14. Yes, Christine, your messages are always clear and wonderfully enlightening. Thank you!

  15. Thank you for this beautiful Lift!

  16. . Thank you for this inspiring Lift . It is a great help and the hymn #20 is very helpful.

  18. Thank you....!

  19. Thank you.

  20. Thank you Christine, it came to me just whenI needed it.

  21. Thank you so much for this wonderful Lift, Christine!

Yes, the world condemns Christian Science as unsafe to rely upon for healing -- so how glad we should be that "...the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world," as the third section of the Bible Lesson this past week pointed out so clearly! (I Corinthians 2:12)

I also have found it helpful to think about what my copy of the Etymological Dictionary of the English Language (Skeat) says about the word "damage"...that it comes from the same word as "damn" and is from a Latin word meaning, "condemned to the mines." It's so important that we understand that, no matter what seems to have happened to us in our lifetime, we are the UNdamaged and loved children of God, never condemned to toil alone in the dark, but working, praying, and seeing fruition in the light of Christ, lovingly at one with our Father, our Master, and our fellow man.

    Blessings to all!

  22. These verses are an angel message for me this week. Thank you Christine for all that you do. I am so grateful for all of the practioners, lecturers, teachers and outreach from the Mother Church. love, Lynn

  23. Thank you so much, Christine. Romans 8 has always been a favourite of mine. And I love that Mrs Eddy points out that St Paul was not an immediate disciple of Christ Jesus but a follower. Yet he was transformed by his immediate spiritual understanding of the Christ, Truth as it dawned in his thought. As we have been by studying Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and our own demonstrations of the prayer and study of the Scriptures, which are, in fact, our own autobiography.
Thank you Nate and the team; it seems the comments are coming through tonight. And thanks to our Daily Lift family.

  24. Muy agradectda por este lift

  25. Wow! This is one powerful and undiluted healing truth message straight from the Bible and is at the heart of Christian Science practice. How wonderful to know that this truth is as potent today as it was when it was first proclaimed. Thank you, Christine.

  26. What a powerful Lift! Thank you!

  27. Thank you Christine. I like that passage as well.

  28. Another definition of "condemn" is "to declare as being unfit for use." This is something that never applies to God's child. So grateful for your message today, Christine. Thank you!

  29. Such a powerful, healing message going forth to bless all! Thank you, Christine, DL Team, and faithful Lifters!

  30. Beautiful and thank you!

  31. Just what I need today, as a very dear friend seems to be walking through "the valley of the shadow of death". But her perfect identity is one with God & "free from the law of sin and death". Thank you so much Christine for this needed absolute truth at this time. Ever grateful to you all!

  32. Thank you, Christine. You have given me a brand new meaning to these passages and oh how powerful they are. I am so grateful for these Daily Lifts and for all that make it happen.

  33. Everything is just so positive and good and brings out the most gratitude. Many thanks!

  34. A wonderful lift. thank you!

  35. Thank you for this beautiful understanding of Romans 8: 1-2 in the Bible, Christine! This Lift is wonderful evidence that Christian Science is Bible-based and planted directly on Christ Jesus' teachings and Paul's preaching. Thanks, also, to #21 Nancy! I followed through on a Commenter's recommendation to read "Expunging the Material Record" by Glenn L. Morning, C.S. Journal, Jan. 1962. In it, he says, to paraphrase: To "expunge" is to identify all discord, past and present, as typifying falsity or unreality. So all that is left is remembering what is real. All that is real is my spiritual history as the image of illimitable Good. The Good one experiences humanly is the direct effect of the understanding of spiritual identity upon one's conscious experience. Freedom! No condemnation of what was never real in the first place. Love it! Love All!

  36. Beautifully hits the spot for me, thank you Christine. There is an old and loved solo that has been sung in our church for as long as I can remember which states: "There is no law of sin and death", so of course we can't be condemned by it.

  37. Chris, thanks for including ALL the human conditions that condemnation might refer to. Excellent, useful message of help. Many thanks.

  38. As we think lovingly of our military service veterans today and are grateful for their service to our freedom, we also thank all the wonderful lifts and lifters provided by Boston through this website and are grateful for their spiritual insights they share. What a wonderful way to start the day. Thank you one and all. El Paso Patt

  39. This is such an uplifting message for each and every day. Thank you!

  40. Thank you, Christine, for “Romans 8:1-2 … ‘states the truth of the complete system of Christian Science, which heals’ … listen only to the Christ message … perfect God, perfect man …”

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1-2)

Wow!!! In a recent conversation we had, my son brought up that “sin” means “missing the mark.” Romans 8:1-2 can certainly keep us all “on target.” With sincere gratitude for its simplicity and power, I will prayerfully consider how better to put into daily practice this “complete system of Christian Science.”

Already, I have begun to appreciate that Jesus called us not only to follow him. In fact, we are called even to surpass his own demonstration of applying God’s laws to every human circumstance. Jesus said, “… He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do …” (John 14:12)

What would happen, if we all accepted his invitation? Or is it really a command to “believers?” Would he have invited or commanded us, if he thought we didn’t have it in us? What if, today, I take more seriously than ever that I am (we all are!) on a sacred journey with the holy purpose to learn and to prove Love as the only power and live “as in heaven so on earth” (S&H 17:2)? “This day” (Ps 118:24) offers new opportunities.

  41. Timely and powerful. Thank you

  42. Thank you so much, Christine, it's just what I needed today!

  43. Wonderful lift. Thank you! I also love the sweet background voices....I'd like that as my background soundtrack all day! Thanks to all involved with these wonderful lifts.

  44. Thank you Christine. Your Lift is simple and special, as a God blessing remembering us that the heal is coming thrue Christ always.

  45. What a vision of true freedom!
Thank you so much. What a way to purpose your day.

  46. Excellent, Christine. Just excellent!!!

  47. Thank you Christine, you walk with the spirit, we hear it in your voice, read it in your words. God bless all those who serve good, whose spirit is moved to continue doing so. God bless as well those who send their sons and daughters, those peacekeepers in harm's errant way, guided and protected by the Christ within and all about them.

  48. Thanks so much for including the link to Christine's lecture, "Healing with Scientific Certainty through the Christ". When I saw that it was 100 minutes long I thought I'd wait until I had more time. Then the idea that time was only a mortal measurement came to me, I listened to the entire lecture intently. There were many ideas expressed very clearly. The number of times science is mentioned in the Bible disputes any false claims that Christianity cannot be scientific. And the example of children from very different backgrounds all folding a piece of paper and making it fly without knowing the laws of aerodynamics are just two of the many. God's laws are absolute, omnipotent, and always in control. I will keep this Lift so I can listen again.

And this Lift explaining that there is no condemnation - nothing incurable - and that we can heal with scientific certainty is so powerful. My deepest thanks, Christine, for such clearly expressed truths that we can rely on with absolute confidence.

  49. Wonderful explanation - Also brought to mind one should not condemn oneself but permit yourself to be loved by God- your father.

  50. A wonderful way to start out the week. Thank you Christine.

  51. Thank you very much!

  52. Thanks to all of the commenters. Your thoughts inspire me and I look forward to them as much as the daily lift. Thank you Christine for your wonderful way of expressing Truth.

  53. So comforting, so reassuring, so empowering, so healing! Thanks so much, Christine

  54. Loved this perfect message lifting me today. Thank you.

  55. Thank you, Christine. This is exactly what I needed today. Much gratitude to all the Lifters too, for their comments, especially to #21, Nancy. So very helpful.

  56. I love the Message's take on these wonderful Bible verses. (Their first sentence ties into the "Therefore" in the KJV).

With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.

Yes, indeed, the Spirit of life in Christ has magnificently cleared the air :)

  57. Such a helpful reminder, thank you.

  58. Excellent message!! Thank you!

  59. We see in the drama's depicted on TV and the movies, the sense of condemnation by religious authorities. Oh! How foolish and how false this depiction is for if only they would show the wonders of God and man in the image of this all loving God, would we have the increase of crime in the world today? The answer is an indisputable "NO!"

  60. Thanks for this great lift. I sent it to a friend who has been "condemned" to a medically incurable disease.

  61. Thank you Christine and everyone for sharing. Wonderful, helpful, freeing.

  62. Beautiful uplift, Thank you Christine

  63. Wonder-full!

Thanks for the definition of "no condemnation" as "no incurability."
This is most helpful as we have a diagnosis with that label in our family.

May we all rise above error's thrall (enslavement,) despite the seemingly
endless beliefs of disease inundating us.
Error has one insuperable disadvantage, its nothingness.

  64. Thank you, Christine, for sharing this today.

  65. Supremely beautiful. Showing the simplicity of the healing Christ Truth. Thank you.

  66. Dear Christine, Thank you for this perfect uplifting thought. Also thanks to Treavor #!1, Nancy #21, and Bev #35. We can be, are all free from condemnation. Peacefully, Carol

  67. Thank you Christine for the timely message. Christian healing is sometimes condemned as
being too extreme, too radical, and/or too good to be true. This is nothing more than doubt
and fear talking. Your message is a reminder that we can trust Christ, Truth, in all situations.
    Thank you.

  68. Wonderful, and powerful Lift today. Thanks, Christine, for your message today.

  69. Wonderful ! Thank you . : - )

  70. Thank you!!

  71. Thank you Christine for this message...means so much to me today!

  72. God is all love; He sees only love in us. God is all beauty; He sees only beauty in us. God is all health; He sees only health in us! God is all strength; He sees only strength in us! God is all gentleness; He sees only gentleness in us! God is sinless; He sees only purity in us! God is all knowing; He sees only self-confidence in us! Through His perfect sacrifice, the death of His Son, He has broken through the mortal laws of sin and death and restored us to our rightful place as His sons and daughters!

  73. My sister made some disparaging comments about me as we were looking at photos yesterday. She has done this sort of thing all her life, goodness knows why. What she said seemed to be going around and around in my head and was still going round this morning. Your lift, Christine was timely for me,and reassured me that I live in God and am the reflection of God in whom there is no imperfection! Thank you.

  74. So often in conventional Christianity, to walk "not after the flesh but spirit" gets watered down to repenting from bad choices in seeking affection, but otherwise affirms a material worldview. CS takes "following Spirit" to a total level.

Good point that material law condemns man, but conventional thinking takes the side of material law and condemns a religion that follows Spirit.

I appreciate the Daily Lift for using primarily Bible quotes, because I can share that with my other Christian friends.

  75. I love that passage too. Such reassurance! Thank you for including the statement that God doesn't cause suffering or death. Suffering is not God's will for us! Neither is death! We have God's promise of life eternal. It's God's law!

  76. Hey Christine: great lift--nice to be reminded of these Bible truths that ring true for eternity--that we as God's children are not cursed to be sinners and therefore condemned to those kind of thoughts and the actions that tend to go with it. We are wrapped up in God's law that frees us the the so-called law of sin and death. "The law of the Spirit.." is ever-operating and is governing us at all times and frees us from any worldy attraction and gives us complete freedom from mortal lies that may try to trick us into believing in anything other than God's good plan for us.

    Thanks again!

  77. Thank you Christine for this powerful lift!! It is so relieving to be assured that we can heal with scientific certainty. Thank you also to Nela-40 for the powerful possibility of seriously persuing "proving" Love as the only power by living it. I am so grateful for this connection to other international lifters. It feels like family and it is so grounded in love. Thank you, thankyouthankyou.

  78. Such clarity, depth & power in your Lift today, Christine --- thank-you so much!!! Enjoyed reading/studying the thoughtful, truthful Lifter comments! Merci beaucoup to the terrific DL team!

  79. Thank you.

  80. Thank you Christine for this daily lift. This Christ law can move cars as I proved it today. I was on the other side of town and I went into a place to change my clothes for work. I parked in a compact parking spot. However, after I came back out to go to another errand before work, I noticed that I was to close to the other car beside me.

I feared scrapping it, and that entailing the insurance company costing me. And also, my hubby would be upset too. I worked on fear. Then I thought I have time, I will just wait for the person. But the longer I waited, the more concerned I got.

So, a man was coming by and I asked him. He said I was to close and to wait. Then an angel thought came to go to the Daily Lift. As I was condemning myself as I had read the Bible lesson, so why was I having problems.

You were so clear. I tried to stop condemning myself. Then I looked at all around me for gratitude. And just started thanking God for all the people and their needs being met. So, I decided I could just start moving my thought. I noticed a baby seat in this car, so I tried to find a mom with a baby. But the children were either too big or very tiny, as I approached them. So, I felt I was failing.

I tried to do other things, just let it unfold. Then I thought since there was a shoes fix it store, I could go tell the shoe man. He told me, "go back to the coffee shop and tell them". It was hard as the waitress said, "she didn't know anyone with a Nissan car". I walked away.

  81. Continued....The Christ law kept talking to me of not condemning myself as time kept moving. God showed me a group of people in a meeting. I interrupted it. The man had a mad look on his face. But the lady said,"she has a Nissan car ". And pointed to another lady. This other lady, was glad to be out of the meeting as she was there at 9am and it was 1:15pm. She was surprised I found her. That was God's law of kindness to me.

She moved her car, and wasn't mad. And I backed out at no cost. Thank you God for the Daily Lift. And for the time remaining to get the other errands done. I appreciate Romans 8:1&2 too.

  82. Thank you Christine for the inspiration. Your clear thought blesses! Those two verses have the power to heal and I use them often. Much love to all who make this program possible. Blessings to all lifters.

  83. Thank you, Christine, for this wonderful lift. I have long loved these verses also, but now I understand them even better. I also love to read all the thoughts and comments of the "lifters" and love that we are all together lifting world thought to a new level - a spiritual level. I also love the comments from #72. Thank you all for inspiring ideas.

  84. Thanks, Chtistine! Righton.

  85. Thank you very much for the strong condemnation of the false beliefs of sin, disease, and death.

  86. Thank you Christine. That passage was so beautifully amplified by you.

  87. Thank you Christine!
I've been thinking today about the workmen who are doing a project for me- that they are expressing the seven synonyms for God. This ties in nicely, that no one should be condemned and all God's children reflect only harmonious spiritual qualities!
    Miss you!

  88. Thank you, Christine, and the wonderful Lifter family for expounding on a topic I have not given much thought to. Our son has been unemployed for some time and is frustrated with the lack of employment opportunities that have yet to come his way. This Lift today reminded me that none of us need to feel "UN" anything - unemployed, unhappy, unsettled, uninspired, unloved, unappreciated - it goes on and on. There is no condemnation in God's eternal goodness - only our perception of it. So I can now better pray for my son knowing that God is wrapping him in his rightful place and will direct him exactly where he needs to apply for work. His birthright is intact - employed, happy, settled, inspired, loved, appreciated - right here and right NOW. Thank you to all for uplifting my thought to knowing the Truth that we are never stuck in a material sense of being but is free, always abiding in God's spiritual perfect now.

  89. "Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death." [Rom 8:1-2, The Message]

"Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine “powers that be.” [S&H 249:8-9]

  90. Thanks for a great lift!

  91. Thank you for such a clear statement of Truth. Thanks also to the whole team that records and sends out the emails each day.

  92. Great, Christine--very clear and packed with thoughtful analogies that carry us higher in our quest to know more about God in a practical and metaphysical sense.

    Thank you.

  93. Thanks. I really needed the reminder to know there is no law of sin, suffering, or death in place for my friends in the Philippines. That's a media/medical outline - not a law of God. Staying with God's law, all needs met, timely and harmonious and loving, innovative atmosphere for all.

  94. This message reminds me of a passage from a sermon of Martin Luther that I came across recently:

  95. Translates to something like:
“Therefore Christian doctrine does not allow that you want to believe in Christ and at the same time remain in sins. For when you truly believe in Christ, as this text is saying you also believe that he ascended up on high and led captivity (that is, sin) captive. But how has he captured your sin? So has he captured it, that it shall no longer … terrify you nor accuse you before God; and if it wants to accuse you, that you can cheat sin and say: Sin, your accusations are not worth anything. I believe in him who is sitting at the right hand of God and who has led you captive.”

  96. Woohoo, this is a really, really, good, succinct message! Thank you. I love it!

  97. Thank you for bringing this important statement !

  98. Thank you, Christine, Rom. 8:1-2 has been added to my daily morning wake-up. What a great start!

  99. I have read this message again and again and I had to read it during the Easter
    God bless you.

    Thanks Christine.
