Watch Heloísa Gelber Rivas' lecture, "Neither young nor old."
Filmed in Hyannis, MA, USA on June 3, 2010.

  1. Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love receives directly the divine power. An excellent exposition on unselfed love. I’m hoping someone will give the meaning and implication of Mrs. Eddy’s use of “Whatever” instead of whoever in this sentence.

The sound is not as clear or loud as on an audio chat or the audio Bible lesson.

    Moderator’s note:
Quote from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, page 192:30:
“Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power.”

  2. This year, my friend opened up her own real estate brokerage and I became Journal listed as a Christian Science practitioner. We are both students of Christian Science, we are both unmarried women and we are both in our sixties. In answer to the above question, perhaps Mrs. Eddy meant that whatever pupose, plan, motive, action, words, intention that lead thought away from self love to universal love, these purposes receive the divine power to make all good happen.

  3. Now this was a powerful lecture! (as Heloisa’s lectures always are.)
Thank you, Heloisa, you helped me brake the mesmerism, I had been depressed for about two days and I just saw clearly through… Thank you, I know I’ll listen to this one again.

  4. This lecture articulates the understanding behind Mrs. Eddy’s choice between ‘Whatever’ or ‘Whoever’ in: “Whatever holds thought in line with unselfed Love receives directly the Divine power.”

God is infinite. There is only one Identity, one Being. Mrs. Eddy states in various ways that man is an individualized expression of identity within God.

Each one of us feels that identity, a sense of ‘I am’. But as God reminded Moses, “I am that ‘I am’.” There is only one ‘I am’. Every person can express all the spiritual virtues, all the Good that is, the divine Principle, the guiding creative intention that blesses all creation.

“Unselfed” Love is the understanding that there is no duality of ’self’ and ‘other’. We are One Being.

‘Whatever’ [any action of mind] that holds our thought [consciousness] in line with unselfed Love [ the Allness of God ] receives directly [immediately manifests] the divine power [transformative healing revelation].

  5. I loved this lecture and learned so much from it. Especially helpful were the true definition of “unselfed” and the example of the fence post aligned with the sun.

I also appreciated being reminded (by Christ Jesus, by Mrs. Eddy in the Next Friends suit, and by your dad, Heloisa) of how to pray rightly, with a totally unselfed heart.

Bibi, your thoughts on the meaning of “whatever” are great, as are Phil’s ideas.

Interestingly, Phil, just this morning a friend pointed out to me that his recent study of “duality” and “dualism” revealed that duality truly exists (as in the duality of Christ, Truth, and Jesus the man, and the duality of the human and divine coincidence) but that dualism (the belief that Spirit and matter, good and evil, mix) does NOT. Based on that, perhaps it would be more accurate to say that “there is no dualism of ’self’ and ‘other.’ We are One Being.”

Grateful smiles to all who contributed to this talk, before, during and afterward.

  6. And so it is. Thank you Heloisa, you have taken me to a mental place of healing and prosperity. I am praying to realise that I am at the eternal noon.

  7. I wish I had a print out. The sound system left much to be desired.

To ensure the best quality sound, please make sure you have the most recent version of Adobe Flash on your computer.
