Thanks for this clear and necessary thought about a constant expectancy of good.
We can expect only good by accepting the true report of our real being by a daily update and adjustment of our expectations and dreams with the divine reality -
..in hymn 134 we find:
"Embosomed deep in Thy dear love,
held in Thy law, I stand:
Thy hand in all things I behold,
and all things in Thy hand.
Thou leadest me by unsought ways,
Thou turn`st my mourning into praise.
"..To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." S&H vii:1

I'm grateful for this Lift. It was just what I needed to hear. The upcoming holiday was making me do exactly what you described--worry about the future. Thanks for reminding us to not get caught in that trap & to shift our focus to God's promised good for us.

Thank you, Suzanne. You're so right. It's so true. I've learned in my own day-to-day experiences that my level of expectation definitely shapes what I experience. It makes all the difference. And yes! Going forward with gratitude, being focused on my blessings has me open to receiving my blessings and so, living a truly blessed life. I've thought about times when I haven't expected and subsequently not been open to receiving all good unfolding for me. It's absurd not to be willing to be blessed; but, at times, I've been distracted and my thought pre-occupied with worry or other forms of fear. With that realization, I knew I needed and expected :-) to change. Now, when I feel such distraction coming on, I meet it with the Truth that frees me to live increasingly in grateful expectation. In the words of Mrs. Eddy, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Fortified with that expectation, I'm ready to receive my ever-present blessings. God doesn't mock us. God guides and protects us. When we expect it, we can prove it.

It's so great to be able to share the Thanksgiving Service with Christian Scientists all over the world. And as you say, Suzanne, how much we have to be thankful for: resolving relationships, healing physical, financial and mental issues. To maintain a constant understanding of our oneness with God and His infinite goodness as our daily attitude opens the way for the expectancy of daily good and the awareness of God's glory in our life. I'm just so grateful for Your Daily Lift, the lecturers who contribute so whole heartedly, and the Comments from our widespread Lift family. More spiritual sustenance, everyone?

Very good, John: "To make God laugh, just tell Him your plans". My plans work better when I don’t’ make any.
Expecting good and gratitude: the two things coexist.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” http://bible.cc/jeremiah/29-11.htm.
Not long ago a shadow got stacked to me, whatever I do he does . . . so I decided to expect only good, be patient and see if my shadow does the same . . . we’ll do big things together, we’ll begin leaving it ALL in God’s hand. “it will surely come, it will not tarry” http://bible.cc/habakkuk/2-3.htm

The Message has Ps. 31:24, "Be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord", this way: "Be brave. Be strong. Don't give up. Expect God to get here soon."
YES! And why not, since He is not hurrying to get here.

Thanks for the spiritual nuggets Suzanne. The ones I picked up were:
the cause of our Being is God, who is infinite Good.
Our deepest gratitude will expect good, because it acknowledges God's infinite goodness.
So home, family, church, friends, country, state, city, community, neighborhood, world = expectant Goodness.
Happy Thanksgiving Daily Lifters....God's Love is traveling with all of us.

Beautiful Suzanne.
Quite some time ago I was discussing a challenging situation with a friend.
I laid out all the facts & rationale, in superb detail and order, and throughout the explanation, my thought process was coated with a sense loving concern, patient worry & sincere anxiousness of future prospects of this situation's outcome.
After listening to my eloquent discourse, my friend paused & then said - "Do you realize that your concern - the worry & anxiousness - is actually ingratitude to God in advance?"
In an instance, I saw the divine message. I was so taken by her statement that you could have knocked me over with a feather.
Of course! The anxious concern & worry was focusing thought away from God's complete, loving control of the universe. I realized that it is gratitude that holds my hand to God, no matter what human movie is playing before my eyes. So every time I thought of that situation, I expressed and held onto a strong sense of gratitude for our loving, true, faithful "Father-Mother God", as penned my Mary Baker Eddy.
Oh yes, and that situation eventually evaporated away.
Happy Thanksgiving to All!

I just love all and every lift! And I love all your comments. there is so much honesty and love and openness expressed by all !
In our church we celebrate Thanksgiving always on the Sunday when there is the general "Harvest Thanksgiving", that is mostly end of September / beginning of October. It often is the same day as our Reunification (October 3) of the East and the West. Which gives us a special reason and width of gratitude. Sometimes I am again in awe that this "revolution" / change 22 years ago went about without a single drop of blood. But entirely through prayer, candles and singing. This thought shows me again and again how powerful God is - if we only accept His goodness.
To all of you in the US I send special greetings of love and good wishes for a joyous and peaceful Thanksgiving! (we should really strech the celebration to every dear of the year. :-)

Thank you, Suzanne! I am so Grateful for YOU! I just read a really neat article in our local newspaper about a man who's life was going down the tubes who heard a still small voice say, "Start being Grateful for what you have!" He wrote notes of Gratitude for Everything every single day and wrote a book, "365 Gratitudes"! His life completely turned around. "In everything give thanks" - it says in the Bible! And it means exactly that! Accepting everything exactly the way it is and going even further and saying "Thank you that things are exactly the way they are" brings amazing results! It means we have surrendered to God's plan and are ready to move forward! You don't have to LIKE it, you just have to DO it! Go ahead, say "Thank you to that rock over there for being in just the right place - for that rain or snow coming down just at this time - for that bird on the branch - for the gray, cloudy skies - for EVERYTHING just the way it is. It is what it is! Thank you God for everything being just the way it is! Hooray! I Love it!

Thank you Suzanne,
This reminds me of an experience I had. After completing a major assignment at work that saved my company millions of dollars, I was expecting an award or even a promotion. Yet another person was credited and nicely rewarded for the results of my work. It rankled me a bit and I expressed my disappointment to my colleagues.
One of them reminded me of the need to see the whole picture. If good was happening to someone else in our organization, it proved conclusively that good was live, active and still be bestowed. I must not look at good selfishly or in a personal or limited concept, but needed to grateful for any and all good being demonstrated. After changing my perception to acknowledge and appreciate good’s ever presence, the appropriate recognition for my work was received.
That changed my concept of gratitude and Thanksgiving as well. Christ is the spiritual meal we all share and it is complete for everyone. So if there is turkey on the table, we can all expect desert afterwards... if we leave room for it.

Thank you Suzanne. On my introduction to Christian Science many years ago (which is some of what I hope to share with friends and family) a practitioner told me to always expect good and I would experience that good in my life. I am so grateful because so much good has occurred in my life, including a higher understanding of the good God has for all of his children. On page 260 of Science and Health I love this statement "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." Thank you to the daily lift team for this great forum for teaching and learning.

"Gratitude and love should abide in every heart each day of all the years." (Manual pg.60) I really do celebrate Thanksgiving every day of the year. (In answer to Anni in Berlin #34). I too support the celebration of Thanksgiving in the United States this week, and especially appreciate the Daily Lifts so far this week, and expect more good to come!! In a letter from my cousin in England just received reports her church celebrated "Harvest Festival" in October and she decorated a window. She says that seeing the ripe apples on the trees always reminds her of a visit by my grandfather to England fifty years ago with her parents. "They had apple trees, and he made apple purée every day - lots and lots of it!!"

What a beautiful message!
I have so much to be grateful for...and yet during the holidays a feeling of depression tries to settle over me; a sense of being alone. It always seems that some event or circumstance brings about the depression and I say "Next year, this will be over and I will feel happy." And then the next year comes and I find myself in the same place.
This year I am challenging the thought in the first place. Suzanne, you said "Expecting good...is being grateful for reality or present good." I am holding to this FACT. Good is not buffeted about by circumstances but is constant, never changing, all inclusive. It is the law of my being. Today as I prepare for family I will hold tightly to this truth. Many thanks.

If the devil's favorite tool is discouragement, wouldn't such a character relish a sort of collective discouragement? Perhaps economic woes are just such a malaise...what Mary Baker Eddy refers to as "miasma."
But God gives us fresh ideas, encouragement, hope each day. This is the "daily bread" that we pray for and receive. The choice is ours!! I, for one, am lacing up my boots to hike out of the swamp. Thanks, Suzanne.

To thank you, Suzanne, means I must expect this Lift to prove itself in my life. I do thank you! You've dug deeply into the meaning of gratitude, stripped away casual use & feelings. A brief thought of "thanks" isn't sincere if all it's intended to do, was to express only momentary appreciation of efforts you & others do for us. Expecting something from Lifts, and working with what it says is true gratitude. So, too, with God. Anything less, is the same as saying, "thanks, but I don't think it's going to help".Thanking God, if I don't expect His blessings, is like needing to get to a city, thanking someone for use of a car, key and even gas, but not turning on the motor and not driving toward my destination. I should not have to see the city I'm heading to, before I start toward it. If I want more from God, I need to put more into gratitude for what I have & expect to receive, and really feel and understand why the way will unfold for me. Instead of wishing for more, I need to examine my feelings of how much I really expect from Him.This isn't a Lift for one day only. This is one that will take working with, using it to measure where my thought is in days to come. So, thank you, Suzanne, for today's Lift and the lifts I'll get from it in the tomorrows after! #12 Ken, Thanks (with expectancy) for reminding me of Hymn 224; #26 JJ, & #35 Annie, Thanks; #37 Bev, Thanks about the man, etc.; To all here,Thanks; #28 Robin, Love & prayers for you.

'Expect the unexpected' is a common expression that identifies us with mundane, limited, material activities.
Opening our hearts to divine Love we can expect only good:
What a profound and expansive dimension your Lift adds to our Thanksgiving Season! I had to listen repeatedly to wrap my thought around that emphatic, dynamic view that expectation of good actually acknowledges Reality; the infinity of God's boundless goodness. When we expect what IS, we align with the Only Power. Wow!

Thanks. I may be a little late but I felt I had to comment on your wonderful Lift. "God saw every thing that he had made, and behold it was very good" (Gen 1:31) "...the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord." (Ps 33:5) "...whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it;..." (Eccl 3:14) Think than how important it is to know & "...choose good as the reality!" (See S&H 481:1-2)

Last winter I hurt my right wrist when I fell while cross country sking. I expected a quick healing, however, there wasn't much change for quite a while. The discomfort disappeared completely and right away after I had prayed for someone else. That experience taught me that expectancy of good needs a firm spiritual grounding. This Daily Lift logically explains that spiritual grounding.

- 11/22/2011Thanks for this clear and necessary thought about a constant expectancy of good.

- 11/22/2011I'm grateful for this Lift. It was just what I needed to hear. The upcoming holiday was making me do exactly what you described--worry about the future. Thanks for reminding us to not get caught in that trap & to shift our focus to God's promised good for us.

- 11/22/2011Thank you, Suzanne.

- 11/22/2011It's so great to be able to share the Thanksgiving Service with Christian Scientists all over the world.

- 11/22/2011Very good, John: "To make God laugh, just tell Him your plans".

- 11/22/2011I do thank God. And Suzanne for the Lift, too. Expectancy of good, good, and more good. Naturally.
The Message has Ps. 31:24, "Be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord", this way: "Be brave. Be strong. Don't give up. Expect God to get here soon."
YES! And why not, since He is not hurrying to get here.

- 11/22/2011Thanks for the spiritual nuggets Suzanne.

- 11/22/2011Beautiful Suzanne.

- 11/22/2011Thank you, Suzanne! Hooray! I Love it!

- 11/22/2011Thank you Suzanne,
This reminds me of an experience I had.

- 11/22/2011Thank you Suzanne.

- 11/22/2011"Gratitude and love should abide in every heart each day of all the years." (Manual pg.60) I really do celebrate Thanksgiving every day of the year.

- 11/22/2011What a beautiful message!

- 11/22/2011If the devil's favorite tool is discouragement, wouldn't such a character relish a sort of collective discouragement? Perhaps economic woes are just such a malaise...what Mary Baker Eddy refers to as "miasma."
But God gives us fresh ideas, encouragement, hope each day. This is the "daily bread" that we pray for and receive. The choice is ours!! I, for one, am lacing up my boots to hike out of the swamp. Thanks, Suzanne.

- 11/22/2011To thank you, Suzanne, means I must expect this Lift to prove itself in my life.

- 11/23/2011'Expect the unexpected' is a common expression that identifies us with mundane, limited, material activities.
Opening our hearts to divine Love we can expect only good:
Gratitude
By Carlos. ©
I Expect good,
never unexpected,
I cherish all goodness,
received from God,
by you,
by me,
by every human being,
All beauty,
abundance,
love,
peace,
harmony,
health, all...
come from God
at all times,
everywhere
I expect good now and ever!
Thanks dear Father-Mother God!
What do you expect?
Agradecimiento

Espero lo bueno,
nunca inesperado,
aprecio todo el bien,
recibido de Dios,
por ti,
por mí,
por cada ser humano,
Toda la belleza,
la abundancia,
el amor,
la paz,
la armonía,
la salud,...todo
viene de Dios
en todo momento,
en todas partes
¡Espero el bien ahora y siempre!
¡Gracias querido Padre-Madre Dios!
¿Qué esperas tú?

- 11/23/2011What a profound and expansive dimension your Lift adds to our Thanksgiving Season! I had to listen repeatedly to wrap my thought around that emphatic, dynamic view that expectation of good actually acknowledges Reality; the infinity of God's boundless goodness. When we expect what IS, we align with the Only Power. Wow!
Thanksgiving Blessings to all -- around the wide world.

- 11/23/2011Thanks.

- 12/3/2011Last winter I hurt my right wrist when I fell while cross country sking. I expected a quick healing, however, there wasn't much change for quite a while. The discomfort disappeared completely and right away after I had prayed for someone else. That experience taught me that expectancy of good needs a firm spiritual grounding. This Daily Lift logically explains that spiritual grounding.
