Hi Lorenzo,
Thank you for this reminder to keep looking forward and thank you Nate. I think this is the first time I have heard you say your name so again thanks.
Lorenzo your Lift reminded me of watching a bird in flight and of my photography. Watching a bird take off and/or in flight tells you a lot about where the bird plans to go, not necessarily where it came from.
One of my dogs loves to play around with the birds when they are feeding and as she runs near them they take off only to quickly come back when she sits down. The ones that take off to fly away take off at a different angle and tuck their feet in. Those that are planning to land on a branch or even the roof top tend to ascend at a higher angle and keep their feet out, prepared for a landing.
This often reminds me to keep planning ahead. Like you said, my journey needs to be filled with forward purpose and while I can learn from past lessons and the joys of accomplishments, they are like looking through past photos of places I have been; they are the past.
To me, Matthew 7:7 speaks to the importance of setting goals and turning to God for guidance. I cannot help be believe what ties us all together, isn't where we have been, or what good or bad has happened in our lives or what job we have or how "old" or "young" we are, but what progress have we made in getting wisdom and understanding.
Like the bird, let us shape our thought and action for that which lies ahead - learning & growth.

Just to add this..last week's Bible Lesson, that was read in Churches yesterday, included the story of blind Bartimaeus who "casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus". I cannot help but feel the casting away of the garment was symbolic of casting away the past, fear and anything that tried to keep him back, including the people that wanted him to keep quiet.
Sometimes what we have to battle most is the thought (and not actual circumstances) that would try to keep us back. It is this thought that we have to cast away to see what lies ahead, those green pastures that are already there, but we have not yet seen (Hymn 148).
Thanks all for your patience.

A wonderful thought that can only help us as we continue on our Spiritual journey. I find that when past unhappy memories and future dreads would overwhelm me at times , I try to understand and hold on to the meaning behind the words of Jesus when he tells us that " THE TIME IS NOW" then I try to realise that in Divine mind that must indeed be TRUE , and therefore because God has no past Mortal history and as a Spiritual idea nor do I, and the future..? We continue to lean on God, and trust TRUTH to strengthen us daily as we continue on this amazing journey.

We dwell in the circle of life, it never began, it will never end, God is Life. We are new every instant. Is. 40:31
We can leave the past behind; old joys or regrets are useless to remember unless it makes us see the lessons learned (ours or others).
“…forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:13, 14
"He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8
Miqueas 6:8

This is such a valuable Lift, Lorenzo. There's a good deal of self-satisfaction in looking back and - yes! - in reliving the story behind our demonstrations. Always giving glory to God of course, and boundless thanks. But I can see that each time we need to let go and reach out in order to move ahead, to experience the next step as a whole new opportunity for further growth. You can't ride your bicycle tour on the same bit of road. One has to keep going around the bends in the road, and cresting the hills to expand our horizon!
Thank you Nate and the team; the BoL and lecturers; and our very aware Lift family.

Thank you for this reminder to look forward and not backwards. It has come at just the right moment for me. Yesterday one of my dear children told me that he was facing a second divorce. So the thought of looking forward and not dwelling on thoughts of regret or blame is most helpful. Certainly" forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before" is good advice from Paul in Philippians, as you mentioned. Someone once put it "having no rear-view mirror thinking" I am knowing that there can be no separation from God, good for any of the parties concerned in this situation, neither the parents nor the children. As the Prodigal son's father said to his older brother "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine" Luke 15:31

I'm so very grateful for these "Lifts" each morning. My prayer is that our nation and the whole world is lifted "forward"...........that we stop looking back and rehearsing past mistakes and miss steps and blaming others. Growth in Good is our natural state and it is where we will live and thrive! Thanks for such a very clear Lift and for the "forward push" this beautiful fall morning!

Last week's lesson mentioned keeping the testimonies. I think this means to be faithful and to trust that God is (still) good and (still) has all the power there is. I keep a special notebook of healings and other demonstrations of the power of prayer. In times of doubt and fear, I can look back on those very real (and amazing) examples of the supremacy of Spirit over the appearances of matter or of any problem. For me, they are waymarks that I must respect as authentic and replicable as I go forward on the Journey. This beautiful religion is Science. Thanks for the encouragement to press on, Lorenzo. Thank you, Lorenzo, for “The journey: part 4 … always look ahead … learning from past experiences but never letting them linger … go forward … ‘…press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus … continuous infinite revelation … see ourselves more and more as the children of God ... never look back.” Reminds me of the lesson of Lot’s wife, who looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. I used to wonder, why a pillar of salt? Then at some point, I read, “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Mark 5:13) As we choose our “realities” as either Spiritual-based or matter-based, the first helps us to stay in the infinite possibilities of “Life-lessons-learning-mode;” the latter limits our progress and the adjustments our progress requires. As Mrs. Eddy put it, “We may well be astonished at sin, sickness, and death. We may well be perplexed at human fear; and still more astounded at hatred, which lifts its hydra head, showing its horns in the many inventions of evil. But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?” Thanks again, Lorenzo, for this Lift, which encourages a focus on God’s laws of progress and adjustment on our amazing journey.

In an online article, available at JSH-Online, George Wendell Adams has written ; "Do we often wonder why we are unable to accomplish the mighty works which we have long hoped to accomplish, why we have been unable to bring about an harmonious condition where discord has seemed to be? Let us ask ourselves how much we have dreamed, and how much we have worked. Our Leader has told us that "the song of Christian Science is, 'Work--work--work--watch and pray' (Message to the Mother Church for 1900, p.2.) Mrs. Eddy has nowhere indicated that we can accomplish anything without work. This should not discourage the expectancy of true inspiration; neither should it make one feel that the task before him, on his road towards Spirit, should not be accompanied all the way with joyful expectancy; but it should mean for him that merely dreaming about tasks will not accomplish them. Hope and faith are unquestionably necessary stepping-stones; but we must go farther than hope and faith; we must be willing to work; and keep on working, towards the accomplishment of any task which is necessary and right." (Work Instead of Dream, From the June,1928 issue of the Christian Science Journal. Thank you for the Journey continued.

Lorenzo,
Thanks for your wonderful "Lift". A few month ago, I spoke at an Inter-faith dialoge group, and shared a little on my "spiritual journey". In that talk, I asked the question..."How does one explain an ongoing process?" As a student of Christian Science, my journey is one that is ongoing..."rising higher and higher, from a boundless basis." I rejoice in this fact, knowing each day is a blessing. Full of His ever-present, continuing unfolding demonstration in my daily activities.

Thank you for exposing these two types of mental baggage. Without that type of baggage we can much easier focus on our goal, to show forth our true being.
And even if we can't see the whole way, we can be sure that we'll be guided. Like when climbing a mountain, we can see the next mark, if not the whole path. The Bible Lessons are such marks on our path.

How true it is Lorenzo that looking back can ensnare us in falsehoods. You're right -- life is dynamic. There is only "now" and we can have an expectancy of good. The "now" that God is creating is only and always good. Time is matter-based. Looking back can stick you in a material view. As Nela said, we choose our realities as either Spiritual-based or matter-based. Looking back, regretting the present because the past was better or getting stuck in our victories instead of creating them now, or regretting past errors instead of just spotting the lies and laying the illusions aside are all mortal mind traps. Life is in us today. God's love is here now. The spiritual is constantly unfolding.
This Daily Lift is helping to free me from a recent experience that I have felt "stuck" in. All illusion. Let it go, cast away the lie.
These lifts are so precious, so full of truth and love. What a gift!! Many thanks to you Lorenzo and to everyone posting such insightful comments!

Thank you for the lift and all the comments, especially 49. (not to spend time worrying about what may or may not happen) I've sometimes worried that good things might not continue to happen in my life, which is a type of fear of the future. The discoverer of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes, "Truth cannot be stereotyped; it unfoldeth forever." A definition of "stereotype" at the online free Dictionary by Farlex is "one that is regarded as embodying or conforming to a set image or type".
Perhaps the "set image" in this case is a material model of what has happened in the past instead of the seeing ourselves as the ever new, fresh, pure, unfolding expression of God.

This is a great Journey Lift! Thank you, Lorenzo., I like to re-listen to your Journey series for each new one, but after a great 2 (plus) weeks of sound, mine quit again 6 days ago. To pack for my journey, I reviewed comments to get the thoughts of it, so I'd be spiritually dressed for travel. This Lift is what I need to follow. If sudden flashes of unpleasant experiences could sound as they crumbled while I listened to this Lift, my comment would have flashes and crumbling audio between the words! My protests on some-"No, not that!" then angels-"Yes, that!" would dance across the paragraph, too. Sighs of relief at many things I could willing let go, would sound like spring breezes. I wouldn't have to type, my comment could be heard. I like how you explained why going over past situations impedes our progress. It isn't just about "let it go", which often isn't easy, but why to let it go, which gives reasonable comfort and hope/expectation. The prize may be great, but the pressing for the mark is my daily goal, thanks to this lift. #8 Troy, you made me realize the garment is what we've wrapped ourselves in. The Old Hymn, "Just As I Am Without One Plea", by Charlotte Elliott, covers much to fit this Lift, worth googling, too many spaces for here.

We C/Scientists are like professional climbers, (one who climbs taller and taller, mountains.) we learn a Spiritual idea of ourselves at each progressive thought. Like Jacob when he climbed (Journeyed) up the ladder, each step up the spiritual ladder, he learned a little more of himself as being the complete reflection of God. It never ends, this climbing of the spiritual ladder, this journey of spiritual understanding. It goes on forever.

- 9/24/2012Hi Lorenzo,
Thank you for this reminder to keep looking forward and thank you Nate.

- 9/24/2012Just to add this..last week's Bible Lesson, that was read in Churches yesterday, included the story of blind Bartimaeus who "casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus".

- 9/24/2012A wonderful thought that can only help us as we continue on our Spiritual journey.

- 9/24/2012We dwell in the circle of life, it never began, it will never end, God is Life.

- 9/24/2012This is such a valuable Lift, Lorenzo.

- 9/24/2012Thank you for this reminder to look forward and not backwards. As the Prodigal son's father said to his older brother "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine" Luke 15:31

thanks for your 4 journey lifts. I love them all, just listened to all of them.

- 9/24/2012Thank you Lorenzo! I Loved your message. Going way back to my teenage years and beyond; the message I most took on board was "Being Here Now" so how wonderful it is to see that same fundamental message that really counts; "Don't go back..Sally Forth.! Special thanks to Troy and Elena who I hungrily seek out.. (kinda got a way with words) Have you written a book together yet? Nate; I've heard your lovely voice so often now, you feel like my brother, and I agree with Troy, it was lovely to hear your full name. God Bless the birds in our lives!

- 9/24/2012I'm so very grateful for these "Lifts" each morning.

- 9/24/2012Last week's lesson mentioned keeping the testimonies. Muchas gracias.

- 9/24/2012And this is immortality -- looking "forward to an increased awareness as children of God, and never looking back." Life and its goodness are continuous. "Thus the dawn of ideas goes on, forming each successive stage of progress." (Science and Health, pg. 506)

- 9/24/2012Thank you, Lorenzo, for “The journey: part 4 … always look ahead … learning from past experiences but never letting them linger … go forward … ‘…press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus … continuous infinite revelation … see ourselves more and more as the children of God ... never look back.” Reminds me of the lesson of Lot’s wife, who looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.

- 9/24/2012In an online article, available at JSH-Online, George Wendell Adams has written ; "Do we often wonder why we are unable to accomplish the mighty works which we have long hoped to accomplish, why we have been unable to bring about an harmonious condition where discord has seemed to be?

- 9/24/2012Lorenzo,
Thanks for your wonderful "Lift".
Thanks again!

- 9/24/2012Thank you for exposing these two types of mental baggage. Without that type of baggage we can much easier focus on our goal, to show forth our true being.
And even if we can't see the whole way, we can be sure that we'll be guided. Like when climbing a mountain, we can see the next mark, if not the whole path. The Bible Lessons are such marks on our path.

- 9/24/2012How true it is Lorenzo that looking back can ensnare us in falsehoods.

- 9/24/2012Lorenzo, love this reminder 'of letting go of what lies behind & pressing on to the good things ahead.' Also said another way in a short poem found in the CS Sentinel -12/21/84 called Remove the Liability by Joel Magnes:
We should not ignore
The good that has gone before
But we must do more.
We must land on Life's shore,
Kiss the new ground. . .
And burn the boat.
Thank you and the commentators for wonderful inspiration I have to enjoy & share this day!

- 9/24/2012Thank you for the lift and all the comments, especially 49.

- 9/24/2012After I heard Journey #4 - I went back and listened to Journey 1 -3. I am in the middle of a divorce right now and your words have made me see that I am still looking back. Well - no more. Thank you for helping me reset my "sight" for the correct journey. I will now set my "sight" and see myself as an ever new, fresh, pure, unfolding expression of God. No more motal image for me - as that is self destructive and I will not progress forward if I do that. Thank you again for this terrific daily lift.

- 9/24/2012So helpful Lorenzo and each Lifter. I had a negative experience with a small group years past. Mortal thinking would like me to relive it at intervals. - 9/24/2012This is a great Journey Lift!

- 9/25/2012We C/Scientists are like professional climbers, (one who climbs taller and taller, mountains.) we learn a Spiritual idea of ourselves at each progressive thought. Like Jacob when he climbed (Journeyed) up the ladder, each step up the spiritual ladder, he learned a little more of himself as being the complete reflection of God. It never ends, this climbing of the spiritual ladder, this journey of spiritual understanding. It goes on forever.
