and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can
recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace

Your very clear message in today's Daily Lift hit a bullseye in considering the questions (often read as obfuscation or confusions) of daily life and living. Sometimes many people start out feeling God's presence and care, but forgetting to stick with this divine perspective - or choosing to feel responsible for supplying needs ourself - makes living into a stressful, very material affair, instead of a joyful, spontaneous discovery of God's plan for us each day.

What a difference the right view makes! Holding onto God and trusting in Him first, is truly the answer, as you so ably pointed out.

Thank you for the simple truth about God being true in our lives, even as we yield to this gentle persuasion, and find our way back to Him, and peace.

There’s been times when I didn’t think I could keep on going but this ministry reminded me that by looking toward the Christ I’ll find the answer within myself. I always did.
When I fully accepted the fact that God is taking care of, even the direst situation in my life, soon the problem was taken care of.
The answer is feeling the love of God, being conscious that God will not fail us and understanding why.

MBEddy says in S&H, "Become conscious for a single moment that life and intelligence are purely spiritual, and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief of sickness you will find yourself suddenly well." This momentary awareness of our spiritual perfection as God's reflection (a pure affection) is the door to the kingdom of heaven within us. It will and must dissipate any blockage, stoppage, or erroneous belief or action in our human experience by removing the personal sense or fear of the situation,; in other words it removes the false mortal belief with the spiritual truth of our perfection as God's perfect idea or expression. It lifts our hearts and minds above the material and temporal to the spiritual and eternal, or the actual, the kingdom of God within us. Our thought, held steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, will allow these God-like qualities to flood our consciousness and appear in our experience in the proper form that is required each and every moment: perfect health, employment, income, joy, and/or abundant good of any sort. We will feel and therefore experience God's love around and within us; God expressing himself through us as His perfect reflection, His image and likeness. MBE also says in S&H, "A pure affection takes form in goodness, but Science alone reveals the divine Principle of goodness, and demonstrates its rules."

What a comforting thought that everything we need is within us and comes directly to us from God. I'm reminded of Hymn 269 which begins:
"Our God is Love, unchanging Love,
And can we ask for more?
Our prayer for Love's increase is vain,
'Twas infinite before.

For more than we accept;
The open fount is free to all,
God's promises are kept."

The Bible is full of God's promises which are too numerous to list here, but just knowing that they WILL be kept is such a blessing!.

In response to #25, DMR's query, I would have to say eight things in random order.

Firstly, listen wholeheartedly to Lorenzo's excellent Daily Lift several times and research wonderful Daily Lifts of the past.

Secondly, I would humbly turn to God in prayer every day, beginning first thing in the morning.

Thirdly, I would delve into the Sentinel and Journal publications on a regular basis.

Fourthly, I would read from cover to cover Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, even if it is not understandable at first. The chapters on Prayer and Physiology are most accessible, if you are a first time reader.

Fifthly I would explore online Christian Science lectures which contain many wonderful ideas.

Sixthly, I would begin watching ones own thought processes which can accelerate but also impede spiritual progress.

Seven, I would get in touch with a Christian Science practitioner in your area or anywhere in the world. Their contact info is listed in the back of Journal magazines. These people can open up doors, even doors which seem stuck at the moment.

And finally, I would make sure I am expressing gratitude, joy and forgiveness (both of self and others) unceasingly.

Thank you so much for the reminder that God will not and can not leave us. I left home this morning for work feeling that two of my loved ones were feeling low emotionally; and I felt a downward pull in myself. Then as I was driving along, I saw a stunning field of sunflowers, heads all turned to the rising sun shining through the autumn mist. A few words from a hymn I had sung in Sunday School a couple days ago popped into my mind. "I walk with Love along the way and O it is a glorious day." (I don't have a hymnal with me, so the quote may not be exact.) The light of that thought shone through and lifted my thinking. "The Daily Lift" carried it forward. I and my loved ones are earnestly striving to seek God's kingdom first and we don't have to worry because we are walking with Love every minute!

Thank you, Lorenzo! So full of Love! My deepest prayer these days is to FEEL God's Love for me so that I can share it with the World! I had a Practitioner once who always quoted to me from the CS Hymn: "Man is the Loved of Love." I really feel, deep down, that our only purpose HERE is to learn to receive Love and to give Love. The rest is all icing on the cake! Or, as that same Practitioner used to say: "We are here to Bless and be Blessed!" All Love to All!

Thank you Lorenzo. The way these Lifts make the Gospel practical in actualizing our connection to scientific, spiritual reality is so healing for us as individuals and the world beliefs with which our thought comes into contact. Each one is a blessing.

Thank you for that lift, a lovely and direct reminder of from where and how all Answers come. To 25 (DMR) it may or may not help to know that I think we
all have felt that way at times. Hearing how so many others can feel, almost instantaneously, that swell of God's love, can make one feel "left out" or worse, if you think you are not experiencing it. For me, I need to constantly read inspirational words and truly quiet my mind, while going into prayer (a tough thing for me to do as silly, mundane thoughts keep interrupting). Keep focused on God, as best you can, and trust that He/She is there with you unfailingly. I really hope this helps...Remember to count your blessings!

Hi Lorenzo, Thank you for this powerful witness from your own experience. Hello to DMR #25 and a witness here from my experience of "what do I do when I do not feel that Love?" Jesus was so clear, wasn't he, about looking within our consciousness with the expectation of finding the "Living, palpitating presence of Christ." which Science and Health puts forth as "...the Science of Christianity, ...spiritual sense ...a PRESENT help." [S&H P351:14]

I find acknowledgiing the presence of God right where this helpless feeling claims to have me locked down gives me the forward motion to immediately thank God and get myself moving by doing something for someone else, or taking up some house work with vigor! I find it is the willingness to kick out the "I don't get it," or "I can't," and right there in its place to "Rejoice evermore,." (I Thess 5:16) Often I say, "Thank you, God!!" right out loud, "In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." ( I Thess 5:18) Then,remembering Moses, (Exodus 14: 15) I "go forward," trusting that God is continually revealing Himself to my consciousness and I need to listen and take loving action.

I wait and expect to see the evidence of Love's Love weather I feel it or not at

The 23rd and 91st Psalms are very good friends in times of waiting.

Just this morning I remembered a practitioner saying not to get fooled into thinking everything will be better when I go here, or when I go there, which is exactly what I've been doing and needed to be reminded of, so I feel the messaged reinforced with this lift. OK, we seek, He finds! Those wonderful clear consciousness moments, which stand out in our experience as a great warmth of healing Love, is God, good, finding us. Right when we think we are alone on a battlefield, God is seeking, finding and maintaining his perfect man. Who is finding who? Ha! Perhaps our "seeking" is simply coming out of hiding.

Hymn 173 suggests this:
Heaven is at hand, when thy pure touch persuades us,
Comfort of God, that seeks and finds His own.

The distinction came to me: Inside or Outside - Within or Without - Are we Included or Excluded from God’s presence?

Whenever I feel I am with-OUT something I can look with-IN (within the kingdom of Heaven) for the answer/solution.

The 91st Psalm holds the key to the kingdom by starting “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high…”

Like the prodigal son, do we search for happiness on the Outside, when it is Inside all along? Do we exclude ourselves by feeling unfulfilled, tempted to seek material fulfillment, when our habitation is with-in and we can never be without?

Both Jesus and Mrs. Eddy amplify this, “The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:20) and “This kingdom of God "is within you," — is within reach of man's consciousness here, and the spiritual idea reveals it. (576:21-23).

With-IN our reach, at hand, here and now! We never lack spiritual resources when we carry our Divine Credit Card instead of a material Debit Card. Don’t leave home without it.

Like a turtle, we carry our home (spiritual habitation) with us, and always abide within, wherever we go or seem to stray.

This is a very subtle, yet profound lift. I've listened to it 4 times, just to get it to sink in! But I think you'd tell me, Lorenzo, that I already have it!

But this lift gets to the heart of what I need to do daily -- moment to moment -- affirming the presence of divine Love in my life, even when I don't seem to feel it.

DMR - feeling divine Love is an act of yielding to its presence. Have you ever been with someone who says they can't find something, when it's right there within plain view?

Divine Love is like this. It's always there, unless we're focused on something that may try to deny its everlasting, ever-caring presence.

During Jesus' crucifixion, the world saw death, but he saw transition to the proof that death is not the final reality - divine Life is. Where others saw leprosy, he saw God's perfect child.

Part of this study of Christian Science may also require us to "retrain" ourselves to see life from a spiritual perspective. When you see a chair, you may see wood and fabric. But seeing spiritually might include discerning the comfort and rest a chair is designed to provide. With spiritual discernment we "see" beyond matter. And once when I was destitute, God guided me to "see" the spiritual nature of everything around me -- from someone opening a car door for another, to the reason a traffic light exists.

Lorenzo, thank you so much for this lift. It's just what I need to stop a long-held tendency to seek good outside myself, when in fact "it's within."

In her writings Mary Baker Eddy has over 100 statements about not mixing spiritual and material means. As a friend described the results of this research: Mrs. Eddy does not say that we should not try to do this. She states that we CANNOT mix the spiritual and the material.

Thank you Lorenzo, just when all seemed hopeless; your inspiring lift that the answer is right here, right in our hearts, the feeling that God loves us. Becoming conscious of this love brings healing. From the C.S.Hymnal supplement, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you, hallelujah."

Something new about this passage unfolded to me as I listened to this "Daily Lift." I always thought that it meant that if we make our priority to seek the Kingdom of Heaven, then, we will receive the good that we need, as a reward for our diligence. But today I understood it to mean that if we seek - and find - the Kingdom of Heaven, which is within us, then we will find that we already have all the good that we need. After all, how could we lack anything in Heaven?

Here is a simple little poem I wrote years ago which has just come back to me.

The Kingdom of Heaven is within
Without sin.
Leave fear, hate and sickness outside,
Come on in.
Rejoice in the presence of Love,
High above
All matter based ignorant dreams.
He redeems.

At first, my thought saw this as "oh, no" - as in "not again" or "not another one on this topic." A half second later I saw what he really wrote - "o know!again!" That short three word comment is so simple yet so very full of meaning. A basic concept to use all the time, in every situation.

Dear 27 DMR:
I’ll try to answer with a question. We know love is reflected in love. We are often told we represent a mirror and our job is to reflect that love onward. But I’m not sure that’s all there is to it. Mrs. Eddy says, “Few persons comprehend what Christian Science means by the word reflection.”(301:5-6)

There is an old saying, ‘If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a sound?

If we are alone in the wilderness or lost in the forest, do we remain silent listening for another voice?

If we are a mirror on the wall of an empty room, do we stop reflecting until someone shows up?

Well, we are the mirror (tree). If there doesn’t seem to be anyone around expressing love (listening) to us, do we still express? Yes, but then what do we express? Quietness, Emptiness?

NO! We must call out first, expecting our voice will be answered. We still reflect and shine, expecting our radiance to be attractive, but we may need to start first to initiate the exchange. Like singing in the shower TO an imaginary audience, no one may hear us, but we still love the expression and outreach.

Even if our voice only keeps the bears away or our radiance only attracts moths, we are about our “Father’s Business”. Often material expressions of love may be withheld, but the Love is still there. Wanting TO love can be as frustrating as wanting to BE loved.

We need what you have. Don’t give up or withhold your natural expression.

Thank you, Lorenzo, for a good Lift & a good rest. I listened and felt so peaceful, still feeling it consciously on awakening. This treatment, is one not to be left behind after today. I liked what and how you said it. Many remarks posted then, mentioned simplicity, and it is, yet it's such a strong treatment, and carries loads of specific ways to use this Lift. I like how you tied Jesus telling us to first seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness”, concerning our needs, to where he said the kingdom of heaven was within. In modern terms, he said it all would be “downloaded” within us, for us to use. Think of all the work he did, problems he solved, and love he showed, and know we have that within!

This lead me to ponder “the within”. We aren't each separate little kingdoms with all that tucked inside us. Paul said, “In Him we live, and move, and have our being.” (He was speaking of God, our Father, divine Mind in Acts 17:28). The within is in God, Mind, Love, and we're within Mind as spiritual ideas, so all of the kingdom is with us, within Him, and thus IN us, as His perfect, complete idea. The kingdom, and its provisions and blessings, is ours for each to use, reflecting our Father, being one with His Christ idea, man, as Jesus said that “They may be one in us.” (John 17:20-23). Mrs. Eddy said Love always meets our need, so it's love we have and radiate from within, that meets our need (S&H 494:10-11).

Dear #25, here's what helps me: I Stand and look around me, and thank God for all the good he has bestowed upon me. God's Love never leaves you for a moment, open your thoughts to let that love in.

To #27 DMR, Joel, #35, & others have good suggestions. Mrs. Eddy's spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, (S&H pg. 16-17, CS Quarterly, & read Sun. in Church): “And Love is reflected in love”. Make efforts to give love, entertain loving thoughts of others, carry love for Jesus, who showed us the way, while facing trials, yet still met thousands of people's needs.

Search hard for tiniest signs of love shown to you, or by others to someone else. A kind word, a smile, moments of patience letting another car exit...an endless list! Collect as many little instances as you can, and don't belittle them. Very useful, is to make & add to a gratitude list of everything you can think of. Like #61 Susan, don't just list “water”, but all ways water blesses your life by meeting your need for thirst, cleanliness, cooling, refreshing the landscape, and helping provide for your food supply in agriculture, etc. Don't overlook these daily evidences in love you can feel. Gratitude magnifies good and love in our lives. It adds blessings to what's already on your list. Before you can build a full list, you'll find you have evidence of love for you in countless way. Each day brings new things to observe, so if you already have something listed, remember to be grateful when you see it again, and again in daily life. And, I hope for starters, you feel the love we in this Lift family have for you. It is being sent your way here & silently from all around the world.

Part of that quote, I say DAILY before I read our Weekly Lesson Sermon...it is line 1-5: "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for tomorrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment."

Lorenzo, thank you for comforting Lift! My husband and I enjoyed your lecture in Plymouth Ma. recently! The idea that God is constantly looking after all our needs just like a loving parent always does,and that feeling His love for us individually brings healing is a powerful thought. I find comfort often in Christian Science Hymn # 124, the first line of which says" How gentle God's commands,How kind His precepts are; Come cast your burdens on the Lord, and trust His constant care." The idea of thinking of God as being constantly with us brings such confidence!

27 (DMR)...when you mentioned your statement, you used "Love" as the "something you didn't feel"....well, when it is a capital it means God, so I am SURE you feel that Love with all the comments from others. And, what came to me was that you might consider closing your eyes, and just "talking" to God and the Love is there for your taking and expressing! As others have mentioned, be sure and be grateful for all the good you have around you...a place to live; food; friends; family.....you get the message! As we all have heard: "Gratitude is riches, complaint is poverty!" Also, a friend gave me a plaque that says: "Joy is not in things, it's in us!" ....you have lots to give and share....a smile; a greeting and all the good that God has given you as His child! Enjoy your experiences....day by day; hour by hour; minute by minute!

Hymn 85, (words by Christian Scientist, Edith Gaddis Brewer) begins: "God of Truth, eternal good, Lift our hearts to revelation, That Thou mayest be understood, Thou the rock of our salvation; All thy Love we have for loving, All Thy truth is ours for proving," in the last verse the writer continues: "...Where the floods of trouble flow Find Thy perfect, calm reflection; On the path that has no turning, Patience, courage, meekness learning."

To # 27 DMR, feeling and acknowledging God's Love becomes second nature as one practices loving and being open to love, expressed in forms we can understand humanly, which ultimately have their source and abundance in God.

Mary Baker Eddy describes the Scientific Translation of Immortal Mind P.115 Sc.& H:12-18, moving from "Divine Synonyms" for God, including Love, through "Divine image", or man as God's spiritual idea, to "Divine reflection" in which this idea, man, is defined as " An image in Mind, the immediate object of understanding.--Webster".

Spiritual man reflects/is expression of God's Loving -- Mind's knowing.

P.115-116 then illustrates the "Scientific Translation of Mortal Mind"- moving from Unreality (Physical/depravity), through Transitional qualities (Moral/ evil beliefs disappearing), to Reality, (Spiritual/Understanding), in which "mortal mind disappears and man as God's image appears".

That image is always Loved and Loving, even when mortal sense claims otherwise.

Jesus also prayed for Love's "daily bread".

I've had many a dry period in my life when I thought I didn't feel love or loved. Those dry periods came from looking outward for love, appreciation, gratitude from others, their responses. But those around me were having dry periods from recognizing love. Then I woke up and realized my motives for loving were not for me but to glorify God the Source of all love. Now I endeavor to offer my chores, deeds, acts, and jobs to the Giver of all, Love itself. I say, "Does this please you, Father?" "I am doing this for you, MOther of us all." "I cherish this sunshine peeping through the trees for it is your goodness, Father shining on me and all." Now I feel His love more broadly and deeper that doesn't get hung up on the dry periods from the outside.

Your comment that our motives for loving are to glorify God the Source of all love show a wonderful and practical approach.

It is the demonstration of Love, not collecting or reaping or for any personal benefit that makes the difference in the end result.

As Christian Scientists we don’t have a lot of experience being around those who are sick, yet doctors and nurses see patients every day and often in the worst of human conditions. Their motive is to bring healing and restore well being to those who need it most. It would be a sad situation if they expected a patient to first express health and wholeness BEFORE they would apply their healing talents to the case.

You prompt me to consider our mission too. If we seem to be in a situation where there doesn’t seem to be any love to reflect, we must bring our own into the equation.

If 0 + 0 = 0

Then 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 0

The more nothing you add, the more "nothing" changes.

We will get nowhere until one of us changes. It only takes ONE zero to change, to smile or put on a happy face and correct the entire situation.

:-) + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 1

I vow to stop being a zero or the last one willing to change. Instead of waiting on someone else to make the first move, I'll love more first.
