What a wonderful wake-up call! I love the analogy of the blindfold. Thank you for the inspiration.
Gratutude as the antidote to worry! Before, not after, raising Lazarus, Jesus looked upward and said, "Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me..." If worry is ingratitude in advance, then thanks is gratitude in advance, sort of like when we say grace before a meal. And "a grateful heart a garden is" where the flowers of healing bloom and prosper.
Much gratitude to you and all the Lifters (and the team behind the scenes).

Thank you for this lift. It immediately addressed a need this morning and gave me a new direction for my mental activity today. I found your reference to thinking we are praying, when in fact we are only worrying, (albeit presumably in God's direction!), very interesting and true. Time to re read the first chapter of Science and Health again!

Thanks Maryl, I love that comment that worry is ingratitude in advance. How much better to be expecting good and be grateful knowing that good is already present. Didn't the song say "Don't worry, be happy"? !! It is Woman's Day today here in South Africa, so, all you women out there, don't worry ---- be happy ! (that includes the men as well)

We say we are God's image and still we worry. But, what is worry?
Nothing but Ingratitude in advance. We worry about something that hasn't happen yet and don't even know if it will!
We worry because we listen to dark thoughts, not to God, Soul.
"Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul" S&H 60:29

I was up early this morning, yes, worrying. I am so excited that God sends what we need to hear, when we need to hear it. I recently read that exact same phrase, "worry is ingratitude, in advance" and it resounded with me when I read it. I'm grateful for the perfect reminder. No more time (or energy) wasted worrying on this beautiful day. Thank you Maryl, for the perfect Lift for me today.

What a wonderful Lift, Maryl. And Paul certainly had plenty of reasons to keep ruminating over his former life, and yet he was able to put that whole episode behind him in order to stay spiritually at one with God. He knew without a doubt that God wanted him to take the Word to Rome, and he didn't have time for other considerations or temptations. And mankind has reaped the rewards of his steadfast devotion to his prayerful life.
Thank you Nate and the production crew; the BoL and lecturers (and how mankind is reaping the benefits of Christian Science Lectures online!); and our Daily Lifters.

I had heard that fear was ingratitude in advance, but it certainly applies to worry as you so beautifully state. Fear is also False Evidence Appearing Real, which can also apply to worry. If God in omnipotent and omnipresent what in the world is there to worry about. Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need, as MBE says in Science and Health. "Always" and "every" leave no room for worry. Thanks so much for everyone responsible for bringing us these inspiring Lifts!

I have been working with what Mrs. Eddy says in her chapter on Prayer, in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Physical sensation, not Soul, produces material ecstasy and emotion." (Page 7.)
This leaves no doubt to me that to abandon physical sensation results in release from worry, emotion, and provides the solution. Worry is emotion, not a quality originating with God, who is Soul.

And "BE HAPPY, DON'T WORRY" !

Perfect, Maryl! Does "Don't worry" mean to be naive, to look the other way, to pretend all is well, to put on rose-colored glasses? How do we stay alert and watchful - seeing what needs to be corrected - and yet not get into worry? This takes a Huge amount of Hope, Faith, Trust and Spiritual Understanding! Appreciate what #34 Robert says that fits right in with the C.S. Bible Lesson on "Soul" this week: "Worry is an emotion - not a quality originating with God, who is Soul" Also appreciate the quote he used from Science and Health: "Physical sensation, not Soul, produces material ecstasy and emotion." p. 7. I know I have often prided myself on being sensitive and emotional, being able to Feel a full range of Feelings and to express them. Psychology has such a stronghold on our society and culture these days - promoting the Feeling of Feelings and the expression of them as a way to release and heal. I am so grateful that I am learning about Soul, and not physical sensation, in Christian Science! Thank you, Maryl and to all Commenters and to the Daily Lift Team! XOXO!! Oh, and Happy Woman's Day to South Africa!!

Thanks, Maryl, for “Don’t worry… Paul wrote to the Philippians, ‘Don’t worry about anything, pray about everything’…great advice but sometimes I find… that even when I think I’m praying, I’m really just worrying …isn’t it like ingratitude in advance?…be…grateful in advance…let’s ‘pray about everything.’” Lately, a friend shared this thought-provoking “smile-on-the-lips-with-a-twinkle-in-the-eye” question: “Why pray when you can worry?” I decided to take it seriously and thought about my own answer: Not feeling sure that I could or needed to fully rely on God, I’ve bypassed praying and gone to worrying aka trying to use my or others’ human experience, expertise, and education to solve the problem. When I was younger, I thought I was doing God a favor, because He had so many of us to worry about. :-) Christian Science has definitely expanded my understanding of God. Through prayer, my life has become increasingly less worrisome and more worry-free! But what if it seems too late or impossible for a healing? In John 11, after Lazarus had been believed dead for four days and just before he was raised by Jesus, “…Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always…” Talk about the healing power of “gratitude in advance!” Healing death? Sin, sickness, and even death can be overcome! “…The things which are impossible with men are possible with God” (Luke 18:27). Yes! “Let’s ‘pray about everything!’” Thanks again.

Worry is the opposite of happiness, joy, and peace, which is what God creates. Just as Spirit is the opposite of matter. There can be no power or good in worrying. Yet, you're right Maryl, we all find ourselves worrying and sometimes about important things and other times about the smallest, most ridiculous things. The incomprehensible has no discrimination and lathers worry over everything. Just today I woke up worrying about a hostile personality trait my son exhibited yesterday, an imitation acquired from my ex-husband. Yet this is just mortal mind--which is nothing and not part of God's creation. It is not the essence of either of them, my son or ex-husband, who are both perfect children of God. And here you are supplying the answer just when I needed it. Yours is the angel thought I was waiting to hear today Maryl. I am already praying and replacing ingratitude with gratitude. I can begin with being grateful that this trait is not who they are and gratefully seeing their true nature. Many, many thanks for the love, truth, and care you put into this lift!!

I love that idea "Worry is ingratitude in advance, not to worry and be grateful for all the good God gives is gratitude in advance." I never thought of that. It's even better than the song, "Don't worry, be happy." What Maryl gives is a principal to work with, to deny worry as a power, and affirm the power of being grateful to God. Thou the song is not bad, it doesn't show the principle that Meryl had in her "Daily Lift" for today.

Thank you Maryl for that wonderfully "uplifting" lift. " Do'nt worry about anything but pray about everything"
parallels with elsewhere in the Bible where we are admonished to "pray without ceasing", that is to apply the yardstick of prayer to every daily thought and challenge.I have been striving along those lines more consistently recently so your "lift" struck a chord. Our Christian Science Teacher told us of two distinct elements of prayer... the prayer of "Denial" and the Prayer of "AFFIRMATION". In the first instance we DENY the untruths about God and his perfect creation and when we are sufficiently clear on that we AFFIRM the Truth we know of God's allness hence the impossibility of there being anything unlike Him such as worry, fear, lack, sickness, age etc. Many thanks again

Thank you so much for this gentle reminder that worry isn't prayer or a part of it! One time when I seemed to be overcome with worry over a stiuation in my experience, a dear friend told me that "Worry isn't prayer or a part of it! Don't waste God's time with that, go right to Him, and find the spiritual answers you really need!" What a concept! I realized as I wasted thought in that mode of thinking, I was actually hypnotized by fear and as you so wonderfully pointed out, indulging in "ingratitude" without realizing that that was what error was getting me to agree with! What a "kick in the consciousness"! Of course, I wouldn't intentionally do that, but as you again pointed out, it was a subtle "tag on" without my consent! Once realized, I put a stop to it with love and gratitude for all the goodness God expressed towards His beloved creation, all the time, including me! That's what's really being said, when we're steeped in the slough of worry. That somehow we're left out of the goodness of God, separated from His love, His infinite provision! What a Falsehood! As I expressed more gratitude and love toward all I found my situation completely resolved! I'm so grateful for this gentle reminder today! Much Love and Gratitude to you and all today and always! That beats old worry every time!

Thank you, Maryl ,and Daily Lift team and for all the comments today. It was good to be reminded that sometimes we think we are praying when we actually are worrying. The repetitive nature to worry and the uncomfortable anxiety that usually accompanies it, serve as red flags, alerting us we aren't really praying. I find that humbly identifying it as fear and asking God to bring me peace, quietly, but adamantly affirming divine Mind as my source of thought and peace, there is a calming release and often a simple prayer for the situation flows into thought. I have had lots of practice at this lately as I've been experiencing this scenario for a few weeks! I know I am growing in grace and trust I will progress beyond the initial panic/worry mode!!!!! Love to all. Tracy

Talking about overcoming worry, I heard the most beautiful testimony at a Christian Science Wednesday meeting last night. I wish I could remember it verbatim, but the gist of it was that this woman's daughter was in a difficult labour and faced with preparing for a Caesarian section surgical delivery. The women's worry was overwhelming and she called a Christian Science practitioner she knew, who instantly gave her the prayer she needed to alleviate her worry. So compete was the change in thought that the surgery was cancelled and the birth was natural and safe.
Yes it is hard to overcome worry with human reasoning, but when we accept the truth of divine being - pray for a higher outlook - healing takes place.
Thank you Maryl for this idea of replacing worry with prayer. I wish you could have heard this woman's expression of gratitude last night.

Thanks so much, dear Maryl. I used to be a "worry wart" until Christian Science found me. I have learned that worry doesn't trust God, and it certainly doesn't demonstrate healing, but a change of thought which steadfastly declares God's Allness and goodness, and gratitude for same, does heal, as your Lift brings out.
The most important thing for me is to watch my thought, to prepare myself every morning by declaring what kind of day I'm going to have with God, and not let the world thought take over my day. During this special 1 on 1 prayer time, I give God thanks for all the infinite good of this DAY, and that there is "no darkness there." (no lack nor limitation of any kind) I work with the definition for DAY from the Glossary in Science and Health.(p. 584) So when error presents itself to me in whatever disguise, I can throw it out because I am prepared.
The olympic athletes have been so wonderful in this way. One said the other day that she had trained to focus her thought on good and to resist every kind of distraction, so when anything untoward presented itself, she was prepared to handle it. How cool is that??!!!
Thank you all for these Lifts because they're proving that we have much good inspiration to share with each other.

I had heard that a great tool of the devil is discouragement. Isn't that the same as worry? When we hand over our egotistical sense and replace gratitude . I read the article, God's Law of Adjustment by Adam Dickey, very often. God's law of divine Love takes possssion of and governs the situation we are concerned or worrying about. We have to say not our will, but thine be done, and start with gratitude and the attitude of unselfed love. Thanks for all the beautiful, helpful comments. With gratitude and love to all. .

Thank you, Maryl. I always need to curb worry, my worst sin, I've learned since finding Christian Science. I try to remember Jesus thanked in advance, and it has blessed me before. I work on other Lifts relating to healing worry, but I especially need this today! Instead of saying more, I need to soak this in and practice working with it on special issues. You've given me an angel message in answer to my prayers. Again, Thanks for this Lift! #27 Diane described what all the Daily Lifts do for us. They leave us with childlike wonder and freedom, which we can confirm by reading the comments. #70 jBeau, Thanks for sharing that worry is like praying for things we don't want. That will help, too. #78 Lori, thanks for the testimony on instant healing you got from this Lift & above comments. #94 Gary, Thanks.

Love this! I love thinking and remembering that just because your answer is not evident to you in the beginning, it doesn't mean that it isn't there... "Prayer removes blindfolds, removes worry, so you can see the answer God is giving to you"
This is so helpful... Thank you Maryl!!!

Dear Maryl, I just learned of an incident from a person who said, "I wasn't going to discuss this with you because I didn't want you to worry." Then I got on my computer and connected with this daily lift...Don't worry. I had to smile and am very grateful to you and all the commenters for today's timely lift.

Years ago, on the back cover of the Sentinels, was printed "GRATITUDE BRINGS BLESSINGS" I framed that statement (prayer) and have it on the wall in my kitchen and another on night table so it is the last thing I see as I turn out the light. It's a marvelous reminder as I fall asleep replaying my blessings.
So grateful for these daily lifts!!!! What a wonderful way to share God's goodness.

To #70jBEAU : Many thanks ! Oui !

I love the vision of the Holy City where the Gates of it are thrown wide and always open, for "there is nothing that entereth that defileth or maketh a lie." Only the Christ, Truth, dwells there, as "we live, and move, and have our being," free of the anti-Christ, free from worry, filled with gratitude, and joy, and with those who have "washed their robes white in the blood of the Lamb."

Thank you, Maryl, and ALL the Lifter family for wonderful declarations of Truth! I think sometimes the "waiting" is what causes the temptation to "worry" - thinking that God is too busy to remember our need or to answer our prayers. He does hear our need "before" we call, so it is really all about just letting go and letting God do his work on His timeline, not ours. I am appreciative of the reminder to express gratitude for ALL that is already received, knowing that God is always one step ahead on our journey through Life, meeting our needs every step of the way!

- 8/9/2012What a wonderful wake-up call!

- 8/9/2012Thank you for this lift. It immediately addressed a need this morning and gave me a new direction for my mental activity today. I found your reference to thinking we are praying, when in fact we are only worrying, (albeit presumably in God's direction!), very interesting and true. Time to re read the first chapter of Science and Health again!

- 8/9/2012Thanks Maryl, I love that comment that worry is ingratitude in advance. How much better to be expecting good and be grateful knowing that good is already present. Didn't the song say "Don't worry, be happy"? !! It is Woman's Day today here in South Africa, so, all you women out there, don't worry ---- be happy ! (that includes the men as well)

- 8/9/2012We say we are God's image and still we worry.

- 8/9/2012I was up early this morning, yes, worrying. I am so excited that God sends what we need to hear, when we need to hear it. - 8/9/2012What a wonderful Lift, Maryl.

- 8/9/2012I had heard that fear was ingratitude in advance, but it certainly applies to worry as you so beautifully state.

- 8/9/2012I have been working with what Mrs.

- 8/9/2012Perfect, Maryl!

- 8/9/2012Thanks, Maryl, for “Don’t worry… Paul wrote to the Philippians, ‘Don’t worry about anything, pray about everything’…great advice but sometimes I find… that even when I think I’m praying, I’m really just worrying …isn’t it like ingratitude in advance?…be…grateful in advance…let’s ‘pray about everything.’” Lately, a friend shared this thought-provoking “smile-on-the-lips-with-a-twinkle-in-the-eye” question: “Why pray when you can worry?” I decided to take it seriously and thought about my own answer: Not feeling sure that I could or needed to fully rely on God, I’ve bypassed praying and gone to worrying aka trying to use my or others’ human experience, expertise, and education to solve the problem.

- 8/9/2012Worry is the opposite of happiness, joy, and peace, which is what God creates.

- 8/9/2012I love that idea "Worry is ingratitude in advance, not to worry and be grateful for all the good God gives is gratitude in advance." I never thought of that. It's even better than the song, "Don't worry, be happy." What Maryl gives is a principal to work with, to deny worry as a power, and affirm the power of being grateful to God. Thou the song is not bad, it doesn't show the principle that Meryl had in her "Daily Lift" for today.

- 8/9/2012Thank you Maryl for that wonderfully "uplifting" lift.

- 8/9/2012Dear Maryl - thank you so much for a perfect Daily lift I didn't realize I needed to hear! I have been worrying about a business transaction without realizing I was. After listening to your lift and reading all the wonderful comments, I felt a real breakthrough in my thought and 2 minutes later my phone rang with the answer I was hoping for on this transaction!
I am so grateful to the Daily lift team for putting this together and our wonderful world of commenters. Nela, thank you for your comments. They were especially helpful!

- 8/9/2012Beautifully stated, Maryl !! I love to think of the time that Jesus raised Lazarus, and how he expressed gratitude in advance, "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: . . ." (KJV John 11:41,42) Thank you for reminding us that we should always abide in a state of gratitude, the acknowledgement of divine Love's everpresence.

- 8/9/2012After spending last night worrying about a physical problem and knowing that I should not be wasting time with such unproductive thinking, your lift was the perfect antidote and truthful wake up call to start my prayer filled day! Thank you.

- 8/9/2012Thank you so much for this gentle reminder that worry isn't prayer or a part of it!

- 8/9/2012I love it! I looked up in several translations and couldn't find it. Could you let us know what Bible you were quoting from, please? Thanks so much. The closest was from "The Message".

The Bible that Maryl referenced today is the New Living Translation - Phil 4:6

- 8/9/2012Thank you, Maryl ,and Daily Lift team and for all the comments today. Tracy

- 8/9/2012Great Lift.... and a good reminder not to "Pray for solutions to our problems...." but instead, "Pray to gratefully affirm and know that our problems have already been solved" by God!

- 8/9/2012Talking about overcoming worry, I heard the most beautiful testimony at a Christian Science Wednesday meeting last night.

- 8/9/2012Thank you for this lift, as I find myself too, believing I am praying but actually worrying. there were alot of helpful comments made here today. I especially liked the thought that worrying is ingratitude in advance.

- 8/9/2012Thanks so much, dear Maryl.

- 8/9/2012I had heard that a great tool of the devil is discouragement. With gratitude and love to all. .

- 8/9/2012Thank you, Maryl.

- 8/9/2012Love this! I love thinking and remembering that just because your answer is not evident to you in the beginning, it doesn't mean that it isn't there... "Prayer removes blindfolds, removes worry, so you can see the answer God is giving to you"
This is so helpful... Thank you Maryl!!!

- 8/9/2012Dear Maryl, I just learned of an incident from a person who said, "I wasn't going to discuss this with you because I didn't want you to worry." Then I got on my computer and connected with this daily lift...Don't worry. I had to smile and am very grateful to you and all the commenters for today's timely lift.

- 8/9/2012Years ago, on the back cover of the Sentinels, was printed "GRATITUDE BRINGS BLESSINGS" I framed that statement (prayer) and have it on the wall in my kitchen and another on night table so it is the last thing I see as I turn out the light. It's a marvelous reminder as I fall asleep replaying my blessings.
So grateful for these daily lifts!!!! What a wonderful way to share God's goodness.

- 8/10/2012To #70jBEAU : Many thanks ! Oui !

- 8/10/2012I love the vision of the Holy City where the Gates of it are thrown wide and always open, for "there is nothing that entereth that defileth or maketh a lie." Only the Christ, Truth, dwells there, as "we live, and move, and have our being," free of the anti-Christ, free from worry, filled with gratitude, and joy, and with those who have "washed their robes white in the blood of the Lamb."

- 8/11/2012Thank you, Maryl, and ALL the Lifter family for wonderful declarations of Truth!
