Thank you Chet for this very astute reminder of how we ought to count our blessings. We've been getting lots of rain of late,but I've still been able to slip in some hours of gardening...how blessed am I, to be ABLE to work.. with millions of souls struggling to even scratch up a meal or find a place to lay down at day's end. It's very humbling, and makes me wonder about God's plan for us all. My heart goes out to the folk in trouble, across the earth. Thank you for these Daily Lifts, they enrich my life.

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” Matt.6:33
There's no two ways about it: if we want to progress we need to check our motives, to stay focus on understanding more of God’s order, God’s greatness.
When we are seeking God's kingdom and focus on the Great Architect's perfect plan, only then can we begin to look forward in our lives and see our own goal coming to life.

I sometimes need to pause and ask myself what I am really doing when I lapse into believing that my prayers can somehow change my body. Thank you for showing me that we are all actually building our own cathedrals when we work to get a better understanding of our relationship to God and don't get tricked into believing that we are working to heal(change) a material condition.

I am so grateful for this lift, which has answered a desire I had this morning to refocus my motives and efforts in daily life. There aren't millions of goals any more than there are millions of minds. Thank you for bringing out so clearly our need to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness as our one and only goal, our one and only motive. We will find ourselves accomplishing so much more than we otherwise could, whatever our activity.

Thank you for your wonderfully uplifting message. It never fails to arrest (refocus) my thought when I
think of the disciples when they were out fishing and caught nothing and Jesus told them to "cast into
the deep and ye shall find". They were not instructed to go to another lake or fish elsewhere to find. There is of course so much more to the story but the change in their vision changed their circumstances;
as when on another occasion Jesus told them they would be made "fishers of men".

Jesus tells us that it is letting go of, not clinging to, what we may think is limited and real life that brings the Son of man, the kingdom of God, good. (Luke 17; 31). From the high office as our Shepherd, Christ Jesus was not tempted by God to side with error even that suggestion which falsely promises all treasure in easy ignorance of God. (Luke 4 and Matthew 4.) Even the beasts are harmless, harmonious angels in this restored sinless garden or kingdom of God. (Mark 1;13.)

I find this a lift which really inspires to action - both mentally and practically - many thanks.
Thanks also to you, Jilly (No.16) for the thought that the disciples weren't being told to go to other lakes or elsewhere to find their fish, but just to realize the spiritual reality which was providing them with their needs right where they were.
So we don't have to do anything else but find the spiritual supply which is already present with us in order to build our cathedrals. God is providing it, we just have to accept it, and use it. We must build this cathedral stone by stone or brick by brick, carefully, and lovingly, until the completion of its magnificent edifice. It should be wonderful to see it growing day by day. "Know ye not that ye are the temple of the holy ghost, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you". God, Spirit, does the work for us, and we just have to follow His directions. (Should be easier than trying to follow the directions on some new technological devices!!)

I am a high school English teacher. Just yesterday, my Year Seven class was studying a poem about a big man who served in his church. His handshake was like a "vice" but he was a gentle person really. The last line indicates that he helped to " build a cathedral" in the heart of the poet. My students are learning the meaning of metaphoric language so they enjoyed this image. Thank you to all those sincere Christian Scientists who are building cathedrals in the hearts of others, too. Special thanks to you, Chet.

Thanks, Chet, for a great daily lift. When we're able to keep in mind that our true reason for being is to express or glorify God, then each step we take, each move we make, will be part of an overall beautiful scene, which when viewed collectively in the right light or view, will further reveal our Father's overall plan. This grand view could indeed amount to a cathedral that reaches upward and outward in a divine embrace.

Muchas gracias, Familia

Thanks so much for giving us the inspiration to seek higher goals and work towards them. And as I follow this I know that "Green pastures are before me, Which yet I have not seen; Bright skies will soon be o'er me, Where darkest clouds have been. Reading through everyone's inspiration is like seeing MORE of the cathedral come into view! It really is inspiring how, for each one of us, the Christ is always lifting up our vision, helping us see the bigger picture - the SPIRITUAL VIEW of life that changes everything. Mary Baker Eddy writes that "We are all sculptors, moulding and chiseling THOUGHT..." on p. 248 of Science and Health. When we see our lives and prayers in this light, we truly become CATHEDRAL BUILDERS! Thank you all so much!

Thanks, Chet, for "Visionary lives and prayers... 'I am building a cathedral'... get a glimpse of the grander idea... the power of Spirit, God... it's no small time construction project... see a beautiful cathedral taking shape." In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy shares a definition of church that includes, "The structure of Truth and Love. Whatever proceeds from and rests upon Principle... " (this is from memory...hope it's close enough to make my point here...) As I was inspired to consider the "temple" of my body/person to be a growing sense of "church," I'm inspired by this Lift to build my growing sense of "church" into a "cathedral." I love this grander view. Thanks again, Chet.

Wonderful, Chet! Something came to mind from the Bible where Jesus says, to paraphrase, ...."There will be all kinds of earth changes and troubles, but when these things come, Look Up, for the kingdom of heaven draweth nigh." And Mrs. Eddy says almost the same thing on p. 96 of Science and Health: "This material world is even now becoming the arena of conflicting forces.......As material knowledge diminishes and spiritual understanding increases, real objects will be apprehended mentally instead of materially." Let's all keep Looking Up to see the true reality of what we are building!

Oh Chet, such a wonderful lift--truly uplifting! And we all do it, like the first two builders. We go through the motions of placing one stone at a time, with effort, tediously, somewhat mindlessly, lacking the love and creativity that is ever present. But to realize we are building cathedrals ushers in the joy and exhilaration when working under God's guidance. Cathedrals. We can rejoice with this idea! Such a labor of love it is when realizing the kingdom of God already is here and we are living it. Your lift artfully and gently woke us up more to Truth. Thanks so much for that!

At a Wednesday meeting at our local Christian Science church last night, a congregant spoke up and emphasized the importance of remaining true to God's will. Listening intently for His call and willingly obeying it.
Thinking of Jesus's acts, "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me." --John 5:30.
I'm thinking further how the Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, considered "purpose" in her work or employment as this Lift speaks to.
In her article "Pond and Purpose" (included in writings by her in a book "Miscellaneous Writings" pp 206-7), in speaking to what she refers to as the "lessons of love", she goes on to say,
"Learn its (i.e., 'lessons of love') purpose; and in hope and faith, where heart meets heart reciprocally blest, drink with me the living waters of the spirit of my life-purpose,--to impress humanity with the genuine recognition of practical, operative Christian Science."
How can I practice this to-day? (a rhetorical question!)

I have heard a smilar analogy related to the taxi cab driver. One driver went home grumbling each night about all the people who were demanding, ungrateful, and even rude which included the people he was delivering as well as other drivers. The second driver went home whistling a merry tune and greeted his family with a twinkle in his eye. He had a great day meeting such a diversity of people, having fascinating discussions, and witnessing the many times when other drivers were polite to each other. Thank you for this great reminder of starting from the right basis...Principle.and Love.

This reminded me of the story from RIDE THE WILD HORSES, by J.W. Hamilton. It tells about our perspective of how we see things or face things.When the storm strikes a rooster, he folds up,wraps his wings about him , endures in fear and droops to the dreary end. When the storm strikes the eagle, he spreads his wings and with confidence makes the winds lift him and carry him above the storm. We can employ or we can endure. Jesus used every opportunity to do God's will and he knew his purpose and it provided Him with a force by which he lifted men to the very heights of God. Thanks Chet

Thank you so much, Chet, for this inspiring Lift. I couldn't help being reminded of an article by Susan Els (in the Christian Science Sentinel of 20 July 2009) entitled "What the cathedral says to the garden". We all need to be reminded that whether we're building a cathedral for the city or a garden for our home, we are missing something unless our work is informed by the spiritual vision that sees one Mind, God, as the Creator of all. I've been working to hold to that thought recently in my own creative endeavours, and your Lift today emphasised to me once more how important that spiritual vision is.

While getting ready this morning I contemplated a "grandeur view" while singing "Oh Life That Maketh All Things New" (my favorite version is from a borrowed CD by The Newsong Group titled "Grace Notes"); my phone rang; on the other end was the answer to nearly 3 years of trial bore without the guidance of my dad but with the guidance of great wisdom and Love from many angels who represent our Father, Mother, God. We don't always know why we experience what we do, but God's plan is Good and grandeur than we can imagine. How blessed we All are to be able to acknowledge the cathedral when we look, it's ours for the knowing. Thank you for the imagery in this Daily Lift. My dad was a mason and a carpenter. He had the "cathedral perspective"! Thank you God for all your angels in their multifarious forms and for the Peace, progress and light that is in every day and moment.
"O Life that maketh all things new,
the blooming earth, our thoughts within,
our pilgrim feet wet with thy dew, in gladness hither turn again.
From hand to hand the greeting flows, from eye to eye the signals run,
from heart to heart the bright hope glows;
the seekers of the light are one: one in the freedom of the truth, one in the joy of paths untrod,
one in the soul's perennial youth, one in the larger thought of God;
the freer step, the fuller breath, the wide horizon's grander view,
the sense of life that knows no death,
the Life that maketh all things new."

Thank you, Chet (see below)! You've seen a deeper meaning to each minute & hours of our lives, moments spent just getting things done for the day. Doing dishes, picking up clothes & clutter, dusting, groceries, bill paying, getting the mail or paper, etc. WOW! What a vision you've given me! Focusing on the higher picture is awesome,yet truly the most basic thing I should see. It seemed right to apply truths to details of everyday tasks, when needed. When needed? This Lift increases the vision to do metaphysical work, to turn to higher goals that these tasks help me achieve. I'm building a cathedral to Everlasting Life, one to Perfection, paving a Highway through (not to) Heaven. For this Lift, to say thank you, Chet, and for all other Lift lecturers, for which I've been most grateful, I'm actually furnishing a Room of Gratitude, one that expands daily, and reaches the sky. This Lift makes me more aware than ever before, how significant every moment is, and how important my place in the universe of divine Mind is. The Lift family makes me aware I'm not alone in my work, that the walls of "my" cathedral reach around the world, so even in the most up-to-now seemingly mundane work, I am serving Family. Temple: 1 Cor.3:16. Church- Webster: "A body of Christian believers". I'm feeding the Body, our Body, with every deed & thought. Let it not be junk food! Got work to do, the love I feel just expanded my vision of this Healing Cathedral. My eye vision improved too! #All, Thanks.

Your metaphor of building the cathedral, reminded me of one of my favorite books - Bill Shore's - The Cathedral Within. You mentioned we must remember the Great Architect, that continuously inspires, guides and moves us to see the bigger picture - the grander view - the relentless aspiration for the beauty of goodness. This abiliity to see the Divine view of our work transforms our lives into usefull employment of all our God given talents, so that the Cathedral of life we are building reflects the wonders the Great Architect provides for all of us to know. Thanks you Chet, for the inspiration and reflection your Lift today provided me.

Inspirational. Thoughtful. Profound. Mrs. Eddy, on the page before the contents page in Science and Health, quotes Shakespeare's "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." And, as Chet pointed out, it makes all the difference in how the three workers looked at their similar tasks. The first two replies were accurate but mundane. The third looked past the "trees" and saw the whole "forest." His thinking lifted him to an entirely different perspective. So can ours.
Thank you Chet, and thanks to the BofL and the Daily Lift team for providing these daily gifts.

Mike Holmes, a well known Canadian builder, has just been named one of the top ten names on the Forbes List of most trusted people. When he finds shoddy unsafe building conditions, he says, "How could they do this to a family? Tear it all down!" and "Build it right the first time."
Mike Holmes has built a flood resistant home in New Orleans, rebuilt a safe "green" home in Toronto, and completed a major addition to an earthquake home in California. Usually he fixes deficiencies in a house, rarely has to rebuild a whole house. Mike listens carefully to the housing needs of a family, and meets those needs to perfection. His answer to this question might be, "Doing it right!", but he is also improving building standards and practices in North America and inspiring others in the world to do the same.

- 8/30/2012Thank you Chet for this very astute reminder of how we ought to count our blessings. We've been getting lots of rain of late,but I've still been able to slip in some hours of gardening...how blessed am I, to be ABLE to work.. with millions of souls struggling to even scratch up a meal or find a place to lay down at day's end. - 8/30/2012“Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” Matt.6:33

- 8/30/2012Thank you for your wonderfully uplifting message. It never fails to arrest (refocus) my thought when I
think of the disciples when they were out fishing and caught nothing and Jesus told them to "cast into
the deep and ye shall find". They were not instructed to go to another lake or fish elsewhere to find. There is of course so much more to the story but the change in their vision changed their circumstances;
as when on another occasion Jesus told them they would be made "fishers of men".

- 8/30/2012Jesus tells us that it is letting go of, not clinging to, what we may think is limited and real life that brings the Son of man, the kingdom of God, good.

- 8/30/2012I find this a lift which really inspires to action - both mentally and practically - many thanks.

- 8/30/2012I am a high school English teacher. - 8/30/2012Thanks, Chet, for a great daily lift.

- 8/30/2012Thanks Chet! I love this message today. I think that sometimes we seem to be looking at the smaller picture but this lift is a perfect reminder to look out from the mountain to see the grand picture of God's universe peopled with Her loving ideas living in perfect harmony and expressing the perfection which we all reflect. Reality is spiritual and expresses grand ideas - not a mortal picture show where we seem to be an actor playing a mortal part.

- 8/30/2012Chet,
Thanks so much for giving us the inspiration to seek higher goals and work towards them. And as I follow this I know that "Green pastures are before me, Which yet I have not seen; Bright skies will soon be o'er me, Where darkest clouds have been. My hope I cannot measure, My path n life is free; My Father has my treasure, And He will walk with me." (Hymn 148, 3rd verse) Our Father is right beside us giving us guidance and assuring our success as we work to build our cathedrals.

- 8/30/2012Reading through everyone's inspiration is like seeing MORE of the cathedral come into view!

- 8/30/2012Thanks, Chet, for "Visionary lives and prayers...

- 8/30/2012Wonderful, Chet!

- 8/30/2012Oh Chet, such a wonderful lift--truly uplifting!

- 8/30/2012At a Wednesday meeting at our local Christian Science church last night, a congregant spoke up and emphasized the importance of remaining true to God's will.

- 8/30/2012I have heard a smilar analogy related to the taxi cab driver.

- 8/30/2012This reminded me of the story from RIDE THE WILD HORSES, by J.W. Thanks Chet

- 8/30/2012Thank you so much, Chet, for this inspiring Lift.

- 8/30/2012While getting ready this morning I contemplated a "grandeur view" while singing "Oh Life That Maketh All Things New" (my favorite version is from a borrowed CD by The Newsong Group titled "Grace Notes"); my phone rang; on the other end was the answer to nearly 3 years of trial bore without the guidance of my dad but with the guidance of great wisdom and Love from many angels who represent our Father, Mother, God.
From hand to hand the greeting flows, from eye to eye the signals run,
from heart to heart the bright hope glows;
the seekers of the light are one: one in the freedom of the truth, one in the joy of paths untrod,
one in the soul's perennial youth, one in the larger thought of God;
the freer step, the fuller breath, the wide horizon's grander view,
the sense of life that knows no death,
the Life that maketh all things new."
~Samuel Longfellow 1874

- 8/30/2012Wow - this is great! It applies to anything and everything we do - big and small. Even cathedrals have tiny steps to make them great. Thank you!!

- 8/30/2012Thank you, Chet (see below)!

- 8/30/2012Your metaphor of building the cathedral, reminded me of one of my favorite books - Bill Shore's - The Cathedral Within.

- 8/30/2012Inspirational. Thoughtful. Profound.

God will lift all the lecturers up spiritually so that they will impact positively as they are presently doing to all their students every body that come across the scientific teaching.

- 8/31/2012Mike Holmes, a well known Canadian builder, has just been named one of the top ten names on the Forbes List of most trusted people.

- 9/3/2012Beautiful! When we remain focused on the grand idea, God's perfect plan, we avoid the pitfalls which would void our efforts or those of others around us, and the result is inspiration, beauty, grandeur, order. A perfect cathedral instead of a tower of Babel.
