8/27: A little child approach to Christ

8/27: A little child approach to Christ

  1. Hey Jon! How sweet. I can't stop smiling. Thanks a million!

  2. "And a child shall lead us." We need to become as children and accept the Truth as taught to us by the Bible, Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Mortal mind tries to "toss to us" problems which aren't real, but only seem to be real in our thinking. I love the child's voice at the conclusion of this Daily Lift. It truly lifts me into better thinking. Thank you for this child approach.

  3. How lovely and true, thank you for the spiritual nourishment for today, dear Jon!

  4. Thank you for showing us how to go; and so beautifully. very appreciative. Claire shillito London

  5. Simply accept the truth. Thank you.

  6. A lovely story, Jon, ... so helpful to me right now. And what a great teacher!
    Thank you.

  7. How essential and vital are the lessons learned early in Sunday School! The four year old class is the place where acorns of faith are planted and from which mighty oaks of understanding emerge. Thank you so much for the reminder of how much I appreciate a loving teacher who taught me that Isa. 41:10 was God's telephone number and to call whenever i was afraid. It has been a rock to stand on and I have called many times. The Christ Love is simple and sure.

  8. "With God all things are possible." How simple is the word of Truth, but we tend to complicate. Here's to the childlike thought!! Thanks Jon.

  9. It really is that simple, isn't it? If God doesn't throw it we don't have to catch it!! This certainly shoots down the belief of heredity for one.

  10. Thank you, Jon.
Just as in theStates one can "throw curve", here in the UK you can have a sticky wicket, it all goes for the same comment, there is no distraction from God, good.

  11. Lots of thoughts are thrown to us every day for us to accept or reject. When we know that God is throwing only good thoughts to us, we can be alert to reject those He is not.

Sometimes we may have been only half listening to something someone was saying, and then realizing we haven't heard we might say :- "Sorry! I didn't catch that". Then when it is repeated we tune in more carefully, and give it our full attention so that we can take it in. God is that still, small, voice that can only be heard when the senses are silent, so to hear what God is saying to us about any situation, we must give Him our full attention - we must become childlike, and ready, like the child in the Sunday School, to accept and catch what God is telling us.

Thank you for this helpful lift, and I love No. 7 VIVa Thibaut's sharing of God's telephone number. It is a number I will dial up frequently, and listen carefully to catch the words of Truth, and let them help me.

  12. Thank you for that great reminder that God only sends us good.

  13. Many thanks Jon for this great reminder of the 'childlike thought". And I heartily agree with comment #8. "Things deemed impossible I dare,/ Thine is the call and Thine the care," (Christian Science Hymnal #190). So why do we then maintain a so-called list of impossibilities?

  14. A lovely story and a thank you to #7 Viva for God's telephone #.

  15. Thank you Jon. You have given me the idea for Readings for this week's Wednesday Testimony Meeting at my Church

  16. Child-heart receptivity is something we have never lost. It is innate. I'm just contemplating it now, reminding myself how it feels to be simply accepting of Truth. Remembering childlikeness. Good thoughts, Jon. Thank you.

  17. Hey Hey! Dear Jon! Many thanks for this joyus lift. I have a dear friend who is a CS devotee and has over the years , gently introduced me to this beautiful way of understanding God's teachings.. The 1st thing she taught me, was , we are a reflection of God. Only Good. For all my failings and feeling less than average about anything, she always said "You are God's Reflection!" How could I question myself? Today's lift is one very close to my heart, Thank You. xx

  18. Jon I just found Christian Science and as former Catholic it is good to know that we are all children of God.

  19. Thank you Jon, for this nourishing lift today. Lovely events of the day had stacked up, and your words were just the icing on the cake!

  20. Thanks John, for the reminder to "be as a little child"...Gods Divine Love...that is healing...I must remain receptive...as a child to new ideas....!
    Thanks for the reminder, John...!

  21. Great start for the week! Thank you.

I found myself thinking about this: The word “authority” comes from the same roots as “author”. That is sort of interesting. So, then, authority is that which is derived from the real source. I love it when words fit together in spiritual clues.

The simplicity of the truth which comes to us as Christ is authorized.(God source) The receptive child heart is a perfect example of humility and trust in the authority of God, good.

Or another way of thinking of authorship... man must be a complete and signed first edition. No edits required.

  22. Would you or I be infinitely little unless we were authored by eternal Mind, the divine Word -- by Him to whom nothing is new? (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, pages 518-519).

  23. thank you, so needed today. I like the child"s voice at the end.

  24. Yepp, childlike trust - so helpful in the understanding of reality.

It reminds me when we were young kids painting abstract (for parents views) pictures - totally absorbed by our "childlike creativity", listening to nothing outside of our "child-world" - being safe in the pure consciousness of our thoughts.....but sometimes it is time to listen, to God.

Muchas gracias, buen mensaje, gracias Daily Lift.

  26. Thank you Jon. Little kids - we call them billy lids - or even fiddly dids - are just so "uncontaminated by human hypotheses."
Hayden says "I know that God loves me, and Grandma loves me." But of course, he loves Max, too. And Max can sometimes be a real pretend pain. But if you see Max with his hat-of-the-moment on and especially when he's missing Hayden, who's at school with the big kids, you could almost agree that he really is - other than that other stuff he carries on with - well, a warm and fuzzy kind of Christlike.
Thank you Nate and the team; the BoL and lecturers; and the ever-extending Lift family.

  27. Wonderful lift and helpful comments...thanks everyone!

  28. Thank you, Jon for this clear lift! Growing up, my mom used to sing to me hymn 209 from the Christian Science Hymnal (Mother's Evening Prayer). Now, many times over the years, I have found myself praying with the words if this hymn. One line says, "Thou Love that guards the nestling's faltering flight!..Keep Thou my child on upward wing tonight..." As an adult, either for myself, or someone else, I have replaced child with "child heart" in my thought to cherish the idea that even though I don't have a child, I can know we all have a right to know that God is keeping our freedom, joy, health, happiness, etc...our "child heart" even in any "night" of mortal conflict, sickness, sin, etc. Thanks again for reminding us all of our "child heart!"

  29. This is so amazing. I woke this morning with an awareness of how often we as adults feel "funny" or self consciously uncomfortable when we desire to display our childlike affection for what is good from our heavenly Parent. And how we need to remember what Jesus loved most about little children ... their receptiveness of good. Thanks John. This was a perfect start to my day.

  30. Thanks, Jon, for this simple, childlike Lift! Can something so simple really be that powerful and healing? Sometimes simplicity is a threat to the arrogance of the ego! Only Good is Real! Amazing! Also, for Help, you can always call: Psalms 91:1. Help me to renew a childlike heart!

  31. WOW! Wonderful thoughts to start our week, or any endeavor! Thanks, Jon, for reminding us of the receptive "little child" we are ~ of the authority of the simplicity of Christ, the Christ thoughts that truly support us every moment. Your delightful presentation of the Sunday School conversation was "spot-on"! Thanks DL team for the perfect ending to this lift ~ this joyous child-voice speaking so clearly! Have a great week, All!!

  32. Absolutely beautiful.. Just what was needed here - to remember that I am the child of God expressing God...the infinite activity of good. And the child's voice at the end. Sweet. Sweet,

  33. Yes, we came that way, every one of us. We can never aspire to be anything more or better than God's dear child. Sweet clear voice declaring the broadcast ID. This week's Sentinel Radio replay is all children's stories of healing. The Christ comes in such simplicity. I think I caught it! Thanks Jon.

  34. I love it. Simply Super Deluxe. Thanks .Flo Wells. Atlanta,Ga.

  35. Thank you Jon! Just amazing, and thank you to #7 for God's phone number!!! The lift today presents perfect imagery that helps me to focus on what is truly sent by God. With this, I can remind myself that in perceiving a problem (an ailment, conflict with another, fill-In-the-blank) I have only managed to catch no-thing-ness and all similar issues, seemingly big and small, are all equally nothing!

  36. Loved it, loved it, loved it! Our schools start today and what a great thought for all the keep that childlike-ready thought open to learn. I especially enjoyed comment #21 on authority. Thanks everyone for a great start to a new day and a new school year! Happy Monday!

  37. The simplicity of Christ! Thank you.

  38. Such a perfect lift for me today Jon. I woke up this morning from a nightmare where a child was running toward a stage to give the Principal a dollar bill. A teacher grabbed the boy and began spanking him for trying to interrupt the talk. My alarm went off before the dream continued, but I was angry at the teacher and wanted to show the boy how loved he was. I argued against mortal mind that Christ taught us"unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3) This is how pure and good a child's innocence is. Still half awake, the thought came that the child was deaf and that although he'd been told before to wait to give the dollar, he never heard. Of course God does not create deaf children. Odd because when I woke up my left ear was stopped up and I couldn't hear very well. Anyway, thanks so much Jon for your lovely lift. Now I can hear of course. Always could. And I feel only love for the dear children and their sweet innocence and trust in God. Any false ideas of a power that could diminish or punish a child's goodness is completely gone. As you said in your lift, we have the authority to believe in only good. It's so simple.

  39. Thank you for lovely msg/

  40. Very lovely. Thank you Jon.

  41. How very delightful!
    Thank you, Jon.

  42. I agree with Janice! Wonderful and so helpful. Each comment takes the conversation deeper. Thanks John and all!

  43. Thank you!!! What a precious, clear blessing to wake up to.

  44. Jon,Thank you!"Jesus loved little children because of their freedom from wrong and their receptiveness of right." Science and Health with Key to he Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy". Many years ago I was visiting with my family in Pretoria, a large city in South Africa. I was finding it challenging driving in the city as I was not familiar with the arear. On a Wednesday evening I was going to attend a Chtistian Science Wednesday evening Testimony Meeting and being accompanied by my six year old grandaughter. As we were about to leave I nervously kept asking my son[halting between two opinions] to be sure he had given me the correct directions to drive back from Church, when my little grandaughter very firmly, looked me in the face and said"Gran you are going to drive back the same direction as you are now driving to the Church. And glad to say the fear--nervousness of driving in an unfamiliar city at night dropped away and my grandaughter and I enjoyed the service and joyously drove back the way I had been directed by my son. This little girl trusted her dad's directions without any doubt."----and a little child shall lead them Isaiah 11:6".

  45. The lift today is so beautiful and real. I loved it, thank you Jon and daily lift team.

  46. Thanks for the sharing of consciousness.... spiritual lift received!

  47. What a sweet little voice, following a sweet message!

  48. Yes, often the most simple truth heals us. I recall looking at my cat one day and saying, no - cats are meant to have fur on the tummies. That is how God made them and they can never change from His idea of who they are. I thought nothing more about this, but when I next looked at Zucci, he had fur in all the right places. He was healed. Animals respond quickly to the truth, as they have no iffs and butts in their vocabulary and their meows are always positive.

  49. Thank you very much! Well appreciated! Love your smiling face, and the message, and all the family comments. Love the little child's voice at the end too!! We are all His children, living and growing, into the true people of God, good.

  50. Such a pure and dear message straight from the heart of Christ. Thank you. It brought me healing clarity this morning

  51. Good show, Jon, it's fun to be reminded that the only thing God can "toss" is "good". How about a game of catch in the universe of God, good?

  52. A beautiful message, Jon! I am reminded of the hymn (# 359 - a favorite), Trust the Eternal, and repent in meekness/ Of that heart's pride whcih frowns and will not yield,/ Then to thy child's heart shall come strength in weakness,/ And thine immortal life shall be revealed. We have a child's heart, and we have an immortal life. And we can gratefully acknowledge this God-given status. Thank you.

  53. Thank you.

  54. Jon, your very heartwarming message has evoked such lovely comments. Thank you and thanks everyone for sharing. "A little child shall lead them" and us.

  55. Thank You Jon!!! What a lovely way of stating that truth. IT reaches the child heart in all of us!!! BIG HIG!

  56. Thank you Jon, Lift Team, and Lifters. What a great message!!
    Beautiful day to all :-)

  57. Thank you so much, Jon! What a wonderful fresh start to the week!

  58. A truly great message today! What a dear little voice following the message!

  59. Thank you so much for sharing this inspiring and lovely experience with us. What a way to teach us adults to have a childlike receptivity and trust..
    Thanks once again.

  60. Rob, Ventura, CA

Jon, Thank you for this inspired message on the child-heart, just what I needed today,

  61. God just threw me a subject for Wed. night and all the hymns, too. Thanks to John and all the people who replied. We are truly playing catch, this morning, with God.

  62. When I was a very young child, a dear neighhbor took my siblings and me to the Christian Science Sunday School for many years. I had some wonderful teachers. When I was in about the second grade,I went to school as usual. Before the first bell rang, we played outside on the playground. One of my classmates came up to me and said, "Let's both go over to "Anne" and let's make fun of her." Immediately, I said, "No." My thought was this is no part of God, good. My classmate said, "If you don't come with me, I will never play with you again!" Very devastating comment to a young child. But I walked away and went over to the swings. A few minutes later, this same child came over to me and said, "Is it allright if I play with you?" Of course, I said, "Yes."

In Misc. Writings p.53, Eddy states, "Christian Science is simple, and readily undestood by the children;"
Thank you for these inspiring Daily Lifts and to all who contribute. Christian Science is indeed a blessing!

  63. Thank you for this powerful simple lift.It is also a good reminder of the importance of Sunday School.Much gratitude to all who have taught in our Sunday Schools.

  64. What a wonderful lift. Thank you.
I have been praying about Hurricane Isaac here in the Gulf Coast and I realized after listining to your "Lift" that God does not throw us the tempest called hurricane and its violent destruction. This storm is a lie about God.

  65. This lift is so sweet! I have to smile too. A wonderful lift to start off the week. Thank you Jon!

  66. I'm so grateful for Monday mornings and a new Daily Lift and a new Weekly Bible Lesson. I marked the actual books yesterday, and it's a treat to read the context around the citations.

I'm grateful for all of my Sunday School teachers and for my mom's fortitude in dressing me up every week in scratchy dresses and shepherding me in to the Sunday School rooms. (Amazing that "higher education" starts with toddlers.)

My prayer is that children everywhere and their parents find the CS Sunday School in their community and come into it rejoicing (and wearing comfortable clothes)!

  67. You stirred my child heart today. So thankful.

  68. Just such a good lift, thankyou Jon

  69. A friend of mine asked me one day in the grocerystore, how come all the little children we see always look at you and smile, I answered, because they know I love them and they feel it, and I certainly know they love me! Nothing is as beautiful as those darling little faces, so pure, trusting and sweet. I have the privledge of being a tutor to first graders, it is heavenly to be around them. Thank you Jon

  70. Thank you Jon for your child like Daily Lift.

It certainly is not a childish message.

May one give the breakdown of the word KISS.

    Keep

    It

    Simple

    Sensible

    KISS.

    All have a wonderful adventure.

    Love in Christ.

  71. How perfectly marvellous and touching this lift is, dear Jon! thank you very much. Plus being rounded up by this pretty children's voice. 'Surely beautiful and to be remembered.
Yes, isn't it something precious when you meet a "grown-up" with a child's mind! so refreshing and purifying. during the last few years I have again and again worked with the concept of being innocent. God's innocent and loved child. This thought gives so much peace and satisfaction.
Just like "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power ... " one of my favorit prayers. :-) :-)

  72. Thank you very much for this inspiring lift. It was just what I needed today.

  73. Thanks, Jon. To hear people tell of woe, or read what's said about physical or social problems, and thus fill up with fear, I have to stop & see like a child. Such information doesn't include the presence and love of God. That's what's special about Christian Science teaching. It reminds us of the All-goodness of our Father. It teaches us to be alert and look for this goodness, and if not there, exposes the unreality of any claim, no matter how prevalent in society. I found CS too late for Sunday School, but thanks to weekly CS Sentinel article for children in the '70's, I learned to look and listen with childlike acceptance. I love all articles in CS Periodicals, but reading & talking about ones for children to our own children then, were favorites. Today, when I need healing of any problem, it takes the simple basic approach. This Lift proves innocence is not confined to children but later outgrown. The Sunday School teacher was alert to it and met the child's need. The boy had already accepted un-Godlike claims before class. We can go over not-yet-healed problems, and reduce them mentally to simple, childlike acceptance of only good being a part of our life. The Lift shows acceptance of wrong concepts and fear, isn't too late to reverse our thinking. I like this sweet reminder. CS books today for children are good for adults, too! If phone # seems busy to extra worried thought, try ISA. 65:24. for reassurance. #18,Raymond, Welcome! #35 GJ I like no-thing-ness!

  74. One word, "PRECIOUS" Thank you!

  75. lovely piece! including the dear child's voice which closed it! How apprpriate...

  76. Just beautiful! Thank you!

  77. Thank you so much!!!! So very helpful and uplifting!!!!

  78. Thank you Jon and all for your comments!

  79. Jon, and DL'ters, thank you for such child-like thoughts. "Did God throw that error to you?" I will keep that in mind. A false claim of incurability is NOT true, because I am not material; "I am good, 'cause God didn't make
junk". And he didn't throw it to me, so as HIS image, can't be affected by a false claim.
Thanks again and how touching to hear that precious little child's voice. :-)

  80. I remember teaching Sunday School (under the table) to 4 six year olds, we would call God’s phone number and just ask: Father, what do I do about this and this problem. The kids would always answered stretching their hand with the palm upward and gave God’s answer: Don’t be afraid because you are in the middle of my hand. Isaiah 41;10
Isaias 41:10

  81. THANKS, JON. I WOKE WITH SOME NASTY SYMPTOMS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND YOUR DAILY LIFT COMPLETED THIS MORNING THE HEALING I WAS WORKING ON. NOW I'M FREE TO ENJOY THE DAY. LOVED THE LITTLE CHILD GIVING THE CLOSING.
    CINDY LINKE, MALIBU

  82. What a powerful message from such a simple idea! Thank you, Jon! Very inspiring!

  83. Simple lessons learned in childhood reach across generational gaps to bless all with healing truth - thanks Jon

  84. Thanks a lot Jon for the good message.

  85. Mahalo (thanks), Jon, for this spot-on nugget of Truth! I need to get back to the simplicity, child-like trust, and authority so marvelously expressed in this Lift.

  86. Awww....From the mouth of babes for sure. Thank you......
