I love the thought of being always lifted up by God. It certainly takes away the responsibility of believing that I have to do it myself. That's the subtle suggestion that keeps coming at me whenever I am in need of a healing. Recently I was burdened with the thought that my business was suffering and that I had to find ways to increase it. However, there were no human ways I could think of that were successful. At that point I had to turn it over to God and know that it was God's business. Soon afterwards I received calls for business from people who were referred by others I had done business for. I was reminded that the power of God is indeed present and lifting me up.

I know the iconic formation called Jet d'Eau in Geneva, Switzerland beginning from when I went to school with my sisters in the steep nearby hillside city of Lausanne. Our Leader in Christian Science says that man is tributary to God, divine Mind and that the world would indeed be flat "without the intelligence which holds the winds in its grasp." This is the same thought or tributary if you will which cannot be perceived humanly, but only spiritually, when Jesus said, "I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, in her chapter entitled Footsteps of Truth, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 209 & The Holy Bible, St. John 20;17) Thank you for the video reader.

Thanks Elise! With sound tonight, I got to watch & hear the video. Seeing gave me a new thought. I saw uplifted water cascade down, to be lifted again & again. When we think we're going downhill after inspired experiences, we aren't dropping out of God's constant uplifting. Instead of discouragement, expectation can buoy us to be receptive for more uplifts. Material illustrations have limits. Water drifts away from the pump, for example. But today's message has unlimited uses. God isn't just the pump, but also Creator and controller of water drops (us). If we seem to flow beyond action of visible pumping, we're not on our own, or rushing away hopelessly or uselessly. All of the water has beauty and purpose. A definition of splash, as water does, is to scatter about. One meaning of scatter said: "It may imply a casting at will but more often it suggests the use or operation of force." Even as we seem caught up as a swirl in the pool of people, we are put there with God's power and purpose. Each moment has God driven purpose. While we're descending from the uplift, we're part of Gods plan and special use of us as His ideas. Another meaning of scatter: "to spread out (radiation)." Radiation is: "Combined processes of emission, transmission, and absorption of radiant energy." Radiant is: "1. Radiating rays of light; vividly shining; glowing; brilliant. 2. Beaming with vivacity and happiness, joy, love, hope, etc." The definitions take me back to the video!

Thank you Elise, and yes, fountains are beautiful wherever they are: in a main thoroughfare, in a river or a lake. But when showers of thoughts come bursting into life in one's own consciousness and something great is the result, then we can only stand and gasp and pour out gratitude to God. Someone sees for themselves how transformation follows prayer. And children know that God does love them. And fires stop in their tracks when prayer is lovingly poured out on the other side of the world. Mrs Eddy experienced a Fountain of radical ideas and understanding the world had never experienced before, so today we have Christian Science which is free and overflowing for everyone.

A lovely analogy, being lifted up continually and without any self-will or fear that we shall not make it up to where we need to be - all depending on the workings of the fountain of life, of which we are all a part. No.6 J.S.'s comments and definitions I find very helpful. How beautiful to know and feel ourselves as the definition of radiation which you have set out for us, J.S. What a wonderful and joyous concept to take with us today and always.

Thanks, Elise and #6 for your complimentary ideas. I always enjoy the vitality of a good analogy although it is true that none is ever 100% perfect. This reminds me of the metaphoric language that Jesus used when he spoke so convincingly to the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. He told her about "living water". She caught onto the idea so well that she was believed in the town when she went to declare that she had found the Christ. Others came to Jesus and also found the true idea of God that he shared.
Many thanks for creating a visual representation to share as this is so memorable.

Dear Elise,
Thank you for that loving thought. It was perfect. I loved the point of the water not having to worry about being lifted up, because the pump was there to do that, though it may not be seen. No droplet is busy jostling for a position because it already has a place.
When you think of a fountain, you can think of replenishment, joy, supply, creativitiy, refreshment, reflection, freedom yet some element of control etc etc. I awoke this morning with such a need to focus on thoughts of place, harmony and togetherness. This was very healing.
There are a number of situations, not yet appropriate for discussion, where the thoughts of harmony and rightful place are ever so important. I loved last week's Bible Lesson as such thoughts also rang clearly. I especially loved from S&H:-
"Unfathomable Mind is expressed. The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and GLORY of infinite love fill ALL space. That is enough!" and from this week's Lesson:-
"Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." - John 14.
When you think of a fountain and its action, often no matter what else is around it, near it or in it all you see is the fountain and its expression. Your thoughts today reminded me that, that is what I need to look for and keep seeing, and to feel that peace and happiness that comes from focusing on Godliness.
Christian Science brings healing to our lives through renewed thinking, action and living. Thanks to all.

Love the video and the lifting idea.
I have always enjoyed the fountains of antiquity. The higher the source, the higher the water flies. But with a pump, or without, the recognition that we are on an upward course with power not our own, is so helpful! Also, that the best fountains have lots and lots of drops in them - Unity.
Actually, this is quite humbling. The drop who says "hey, I am going to leap up and be a fountain" is dreaming, even as he is on his way up!

The perfect start to my day Elise! I have been praying to lift my own thought about new neighbors that have moved in to my quiet, sweet neighborhood recently. In the evenings this quietness seems to have have been lost to loud music and much yelling coming from their house. But I love this metaphor of the fountain and all of the drops that are needed to make up that "fountain of Life". We all work harmoniously together to glorify God. It can be no other way if God is ALL - and She is! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Thank you, Elise! I feel so Cool and Refreshed! Have been struggling a bit of late with trying to separate Church and Religion from true Spirituality. I love Christian Science, but I must admit, I need to balance it with the structure of the 12-Step Program, as this provides me with a way to find God and my own personal relationship with this Higher Power, outside of the conventions, restrictions and culture imposed by the human structure of Church and Religion. This beautiful Lift reminds me of a Song: "And He shall raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His hand." Also, I just peeked at this week's Christian Science Bible Lesson and in the Responsive Reading Jesus tells us we are not servants, but friends. I love getting to know God as my Friend!

Thanks, Elise, for “Fountain of Life…we’re each like little individual drops of water… God is like the pump in this fountain… always lifting - lifting us up…the power of God always present…” What comes to mind with this analogy is that each drop of water has its own relationship with the pump. As I think about it, it’s a good reason not to “worry” about the other drops of water; but instead, just to let go of any worries in the understanding that God is “the pump” for each one and all of us. Looking at a fountain, I can imagine the drops of water dancing with joy and gladness – just going with the flow. I too, can “pump it up;” keep “pep in my spiritual step;” and, rejoice and be glad for the everlasting PUMP, while I dance through and in Life with the other droplets. What fun it is to be a Christian Scientist! :-)

I love the analogy of a fountain, it beautifully illustrates the fountain of life - recognizing God as both the power behind all of our activity and that we are in harmony with all of God’s ideas. The water feels no exertion and is not fatigued or depleted by its journey. In fact, it just occurred to me how joyous that journey is, bursting from the pump, propelled high into the air, the sunlight streaming through creating sparkles all around until the droplet rejoins the pool and is drawn, once again, into the pump having never for a moment been responsible for propelling itself or not been part of the fountain. Also, I think it is interesting to think that there is no stagnant water in a fountain, just as there are no forgotten ideas in God’s creation. Each drop of water, collectively and individually is always an important part of the fountain’s effervescent beauty and soothing sound. Thanks, Elise for this inspiring lift.

My prayers this summer have included the acknowledgement that all needs of mankind/womankind are provided by our Father, including water in areas of drought. "The earth is drenched with His affectionate satisfaction", is how The Message interprets Psalm 33: 5. I think often of the word drench -- "to provide something in great abundance". Every need is provided to us in infinite abundance -- water, life, everything!

Wonderful lift!! And video, too-- Thank you, Elise!
(Yes, we can rejoice that we are always "pumped up"by Love, inspired by Spirit, the "lifting" Source!)
Two loved Bible verses came to mind after seeing this Lift today:
"Understanding is a wellspring of life ..." (Proverbs 16:22)
and
"I will open rivers in high places and fountains in the misdat of valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water." (Isaiah 41:18)
Right where hopes may seem dried up or when human energy seems labored, wow-- how great to feel the refreshment of God's ever-flowing, everpresent fountain-- wellspring of Life.
When sharing what the dawning of Christian Science (the universal law of Good) meant to her, Mary Baker Eddy says, "Frozen fountains were unsealed."

When I was only 26 years old, my first wife died. That's when I discovered C/S. I decided to investigate this religion and visited Boston, where it all started. I took a tour of the various C/S landmarks such as the homes that Mrs Eddy resided. On the tour bus I met a lady who told me of the true fountain of life and I would never be without. She was right. I met Joan, got married and had a son named Clifford. I now have a wonderful daughter-in-law, Mindy, and a beAUtiful grandson, Benjamin Ryan.

Thinking on ourselves as one more drop of water on a fountain, being lifted up effortlessly by a strong pump, is just like going through life without a care, just knowing that God will lift us up in every circumstance, elevating us higher and higher whenever we trust our lives to His loving care.

- 8/20/2012I love the thought of being always lifted up by God.

- 8/20/2012I know the iconic formation called Jet d'Eau in Geneva, Switzerland beginning from when I went to school with my sisters in the steep nearby hillside city of Lausanne.

- 8/20/2012Thanks Elise!

- 8/20/2012Thank you Elise, and yes, fountains are beautiful wherever they are: in a main thoroughfare, in a river or a lake.
Thank you Nate and the team; the BoL and lecturers; and the Daily Lifters.

- 8/20/2012A lovely analogy, being lifted up continually and without any self-will or fear that we shall not make it up to where we need to be - all depending on the workings of the fountain of life, of which we are all a part. No.6 J.S.'s comments and definitions I find very helpful. How beautiful to know and feel ourselves as the definition of radiation which you have set out for us, J.S. What a wonderful and joyous concept to take with us today and always.

- 8/20/2012Thanks Elise, Lovely concept of man being lifted up by God, just as the pump lifts the water up in the fountain I liked the video as well. Each drop of water, or each perfect child of God fulfilling its purpose..

- 8/20/2012Thanks, Elise and #6 for your complimentary ideas.

- 8/20/2012Dear Elise,
Thank you for that loving thought.

- 8/20/2012Love the video and the lifting idea.

- 8/20/2012The perfect start to my day Elise!

- 8/20/2012Thank you, Elise!

- 8/20/2012Thanks so much for the analogy and visual of the water being continuously lifted up with no effort of its own and the droplets each coming down in place with no competition for space. We are constantly being lifted up by God and we each have our own individual purpose always supported by God. What a beautiful and comforting thought. A lovely way to start a new week!

- 8/20/2012Thanks, Elise, for “Fountain of Life…we’re each like little individual drops of water… God is like the pump in this fountain… always lifting - lifting us up…the power of God always present…” What comes to mind with this analogy is that each drop of water has its own relationship with the pump. :-)

- 8/20/2012I love the analogy of a fountain, it beautifully illustrates the fountain of life - recognizing God as both the power behind all of our activity and that we are in harmony with all of God’s ideas.

- 8/20/2012P.S. As I got further in my study of the Christian Science Bible Lesson this morning, I found this in Section III from Science and Health: "Inasmuch as God is good and the fount of all being,........." p. 243, l.32. This fits so beautifully with Elise's Lift this morning! Praise God!

- 8/20/2012My prayers this summer have included the acknowledgement that all needs of mankind/womankind are provided by our Father, including water in areas of drought. "The earth is drenched with His affectionate satisfaction", is how The Message interprets Psalm 33: 5. I think often of the word drench -- "to provide something in great abundance". Every need is provided to us in infinite abundance -- water, life, everything!

- 8/20/2012Wonderful lift!!

It is wonderful in illutrating what I can hold to in anticipation of claiming for myself and everyone of the truth of God's ability to fulfill in us the demand for "self-reliant trustworthiness, which includes spiritual understanding and confides all to God" (S&H 23) ... the pump of Life lifting thought to recognize Love's harmony and the peace of that Mind which is refected in each us as His/Her spiritual ideas ... perfect sons and daughters of one loving and all powerful Father Mother.

- 8/20/2012I love the analogy of God being the pump in the fountain of Life, always lifting us up to find our place and purpose. Also, there is no competition among the drops! Thanks Nela (37) for the thought of not to worry about the other drops. - 8/21/2012Thinking on ourselves as one more drop of water on a fountain, being lifted up effortlessly by a strong pump, is just like going through life without a care, just knowing that God will lift us up in every circumstance, elevating us higher and higher whenever we trust our lives to His loving care.

Cristy
