Don't we all have something to be grateful for? As always, Ginny, you nailed it!
In spite that my mom tried to teach me to be grateful to God for blessings of all sizes I used to take every good thing for granted. Not till nearly 7 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with cancer that I learned the importance of being truly grateful for what I have and where it came from. Our Father-Mother gives us so much! I proved MBE's words many times, "Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more." (S&H 3:22)
SPANISH
(CyS 3:24)

Wow Ginny! What a great reminder to stay tuned into those child-like thoughts and expressions. It seems so often that "mature thinking" (or whatever we move to as we "grow up") encumbers our child-like trust and acceptance of God's bounty. Thank you. And greetings from SLT, CA!!!

Thank you Ginny for a great lift. It was good to be reminded of what we have to be grateful for. Our greatest gift of all is Christian Science and
can we ever be grateful enough to Mary Baker Eddy for her selfless and dedicated life which made it possible for us to enjoy the fruits of her labours ? "Our gratitude is riches, Complaint is poverty" as hymn 250 in our hymnal puts it. Thanks again, and again, and again !

Dear Ginny,
I find gratitude with all those I come in contact with. Since we are all infinite ideas expressing gratitude in many different ways, I've learned how to accept what others have to share which broadens my gratitude for them with unlimited opportunities.

--Gratitude is powerful--(from today's Lift)
Some of what gratitude has brought into my life:
answers
forgiveness
healing
an improved attitude towards family, friends, & co-workers
depressed feelings lifted
hope---for today--for the future
useful items for daily life
a child in our family
a second child in our family
confidence in God as Life, Truth, & Love--meeting all needs--for all--everywhere
--all this & more--just for the willingness to be grateful.

A friend and I were talking tonight. She says "Julia, so often you are full of
disappointment...self-disappointment. Youo have so much to be grateful for, and
you aren't grateful for it." While I was thinking over her comments, here comes
the Daily Life with your thoughts on gratitude. I always read Daily Lift just before
I go to sleep, always with a wonderful thought to dwell on. All my thunderclouds
of confusion and concern are nothing when God is guiding me through them. These little huggets help so much every evening. Being grateful is simply acknowledging God's presence as my Father and myself as His perfect child. There is no disappointment there, is there? Thanks Ginny....Julia

Thank you Ginny, for this great Daily Lift, reminding us that gratitude is the starting place of every healing. And I'm grateful too, for the lecture in Brisbane on Sunday, with all those who came from far away, including you and Craig who came from very far, for that wonderful celebration of your lecture on Life Without Fear, and the many demonstrations you included. It was certainly a wonderful afternoon, and those who came to my Sunday School built in 1942 when we were told it was impossible to build a church because of the war shortages, were richly rewarded.

How wonderful to see the good of that experience through the thoughts of gratitude from such a young boy. Wow! It sure shows us we need to be moment-by-moment listening for and willing to express and maintain those childlike qualities - receptivity of good, love, joy, pureness of thought and action, faith, trust - all the wonderful things our Father-Mother, God constantly imparts to us. Thank you, Ginny, for sharing that learning experience with us!

Yes, gratitude makes happy, joyful and fills the consciousness with healthy thoughts. It heals. And it makes you experience more things to be grateful for! Sometimes I'm not grateful. I forget to be.
But tonight I've been swimming in gratefulness for many little wonders, including the joy in the young man's voice who pretends to flub his announcement of this audio series (if you designed that line to make us laugh, you succeeded here, two mornings in a row!) and the enthusiasm in the young woman's voice who declares that the Daily Lift is created "in Boston" (I await that little punch line every morning these days).
And I'm grateful for the little fruit fly who decided to camp on my lampshade until the wee hours of the morning, as if to keep me company while I work late. He also parked himself for a couple of hours on the door next to my desk for one of his several naps. Now he's back on the shade, resting comfortably on its bottom edge, and not at all precariously. I don't know whether he enjoys the warmth of the light or the cool of the ceiling fan, or is simply basking in my appreciation of his presence and his goodness. (Perhaps my having read, just a few hours ago, J. Allen Boone's sequel to Kinship with All Life, titled Adventures in Kinship with All Life, is bearing fast fruit -- no pun intended, well, okay, yes it IS intended!)
Whatever his motivation in hanging out with me, I trust that my childlike wonderment of his obvious intelligence and his silent companionship is one way of expressing gratitude to the God who lovingly, tenderly made us in ALL species of the rainbow, brothers and sisters united in LOVE.

There was a little game I use to play while in college and that was the game of gratitude. I would turn every statement or situation into gratitude of the moment. I would challenge myself. Can you do this one, Sher? Then I would find it, gratitude, right there where it looked like it wasn't. Now I'm beginning to view gratitude as the doorway to heaven. Children are already there and they know it. Adults are already there. They just have to rediscover it. Thanks for the joyful lift.

What a great story, Ginny! The childlike thought trusts that Father-Mother is in charge, keeping us in the right place at the right time to express His goodness in a way that fulfills the purpose for which we were created. And this trust eliminates the concerns that otherwise keep us from seeing all there is to be grateful for! So grateful for this Daily Lift and all the wonderful ways you and your colleagues on the Board of Lectureship work to keep thought attuned to God's perfect parenting of us all. :)

Thank you so much Ginny! "And a little child shall lead them." The spontaneous clapping on landing was gratitude too (I used to love it when that happened when I was flying.) I remember as a child when flying at lower altitudes than today, in propeller planes, how I loved going through the tropical thunderstorms! Every drop would bring forth a delighted "Whee" from me, while I'm sure everyone else had white knuckles and I was always disappointed when we got into calm air! The joy, fearlessness and innocence of that child-thought is always present, as your experience proved.

Amy..This was a good lift for me this morning, as I was feeling anything but grateful. I have been rehearsing a lot of hurt and betrayal by friends and family. I've let anger, disappointment, sadness and at times thoughts of revenge come into my thinking. This was a wakeup call for me. I had even found myself questioning Christian Science! This lift humbled me and brought me "home again." My heart feels lighter, and more at peace, thank you Ginny, and for all my friends out there who post such uplifting comments.

Been there. Done that. The childlike acknowledgment of gratitude flooded back.
Some might say the child didn’t know the danger or severity of the situation he had just come through. That he was ignorant of the facts the adults saw all too clearly. While the passengers were intimidated by the alarming MATERIAL picture they saw, the pilot was MENTALLY searching out and taking a path to avoid the worst turbulence and guide the plane safely through the storm clouds in the sky.
So it is appropriate that the child-like thought would break through the clouds of mesmerism on the ground and express, not just gratitude, but the happiness that he had fully expected, and also experienced, as the logical outcome.
Certainly the child did not behold any evil, proving once again that mortal mind creates and experiences its own problems, accumulating a fearsome burden of material thinking that must be cast aside before entering the Kingdom of Heaven (spiritual harmony). We must again become as little children.
Habakkuk reminds us that God “…art of purer eyes than to behold evil,”. So the child was not ignorant, but simply a more God-like, spiritual thinker than many of the adults. Adults need to clearly understand there is no evil to behold where God is present, in the heavens above (tornadoes or hurricanes), the earth beneath (war, terrorism, plague or politics) or the waters under the earth (tsunamis or oil spills).
I ask myself often, “Where is your thinking right now?

When I was introduced to Christian Science,my future mother-in-law kept stressing gratitude. "I should be grateful "said over and over. In my ignorance I thought she meant grateful to persons, but as I studied in earnest, I knew it was gratitude to God I needed to have. Years later, I think I am feeling gratitude to God for almost every moment, and action. Since our days include many small actions, Christian Science makes life so much easier as gratitude opens, solves, enables the smallest to be done, easily. Gratitude is a ,reminder that since this and that were solved, thank you God, that the larger, longer, challenges are solvable, when we thank God for being with us everywhere.

Ginny! Your timely message today is a mirror image of what happened to us last eve. as we drove out for a planned lovely evening of dinner and an all Beethoven evening in downtown Portland, Ore. (not one but two piano concertos) As we hit the road, the blackedned heavens opened; Hmmm.. Got off the freeway, meandered through town second guessing the evening. Pause for dinner in Vancouver; came out to calmer skies, dry.. (It's Him/Her again) Headed south across the river; given an exclusive parking slot (It's Him/Her again) dry walk to concert hall. (It's Him/Her again) standing ovation 3 times (+encore) Ride hom with little traffic. (It's Him/Her again) To think what we almost missed!!!!. (It's Him/Her again),
Note: "It's Him/Her again" from an old testimony in the Sentinel. a recurring response of gratitude for Him/Her.

An Altitude Attitude of Gratitude gives:
an answer everyone of any ability and situation or background/belief can have
clarity and focus
peace and serenity
trust/faith
reasons as bridges to love better
self-discipline and principled mutual respect
courage/power/commitment to love more purely, unconditionally
freedom from negative lose-lose confusion
liberty from criticism, cynicism, discouragement, pain, fear, anger, hostility
dysfunctional relationships
ways out of sin (ingratitude, self-pity, jealousy, despair, laziness,
inattentiveness/ resistance to learning is sin)
inspiration, energy, power, endurance
committed consecration to use each moment/opportunity to worship/glorify God
and serve others as we grow in grace/humble kindness
closeness to God, awareness of God, focus on God
impersonal, good-humored perspective
lessons and blessin's
insights
solutions that bless all involved and continue to expand blessings outward
healing
feeling/expressing/enjoying the heaven within each of us
Gratitude reminds us that no matter how horrible things seem, we always have more to be grateful for than we can count. The deepest, darkest torture prison cell in the most corrupt government and impoverished and devastated country cannot block us from gratitude that lifts us, heals, blesses. Gratitude is like the window to heaven and door from the prison/slavery of poisonality/self to unity of Good.
Start the prayerful reasoning with the gratitude of the healing, the focus on God's omnipotence, the increased love, the resilient faithfulness, the joyful freedom.
Gratitude game: reverse each word in a tempting sentence or complaint to find the truth and gratitude. He/she/I, hurt/blessed, me/them. They/I... should/don't have to/shouldn't open/shut this/that. Each thought and experience is for us to find the gratitude key that unlocks the false belief and opens our heart to love God and everyone in heaven here/now. Gratitude is the great WOW!

I am grateful for the many wonderful ideas that come from God and that lead us to look at our days with uplifted thought. It Is challenging to hear the broadcast news of world situations and turn them to thoughts of gratidute. Gratitude during tough times is a great spiritual discipline to learn in our repertoire. It's akin to faith which is close to understanding because it signals that even though we're having challenges, we know that good and thus God is here and more powerful. I guess the more challenging a time is, the more gratitude we should express for the good that is here. I haven't been doing that in a challenge I've had, but will try it today--thanks!

Thank you Ginny!!! I love how the little boy's trust was focused on the pilot and on the end result (the landing) while the adult's were more focused on the problem (the storm). How often have I done this and not stayed focused on my Pilot (God), and the end result (spiritual healing) instead of the challenge???!!! What a great reminder to be grateful for "what is" instead of dwelling on "what if "and to TRUST. Also thanks to #11 and # 30 and to all of you for these wonderful comments, and to our Lecturers and Nate's crew for these Lifts each day.

Thank you, Ginny, for a reminder that I shouldn't need, but did! Just yesterday, a dear Christian Scientist (who always seems alert and grateful) & I talked on the phone about the Daily Lift and remarks. Some truths we get reminded of, are ones we thought we're holding to, but discover we left them somewhere behind, like coming in from outside chores, carrying all our tools and equipment. Later we realize a glove is missing and locate it out in the rain, where we didn't realize we'd dropped it. Gratitude is something we need to never let slip out of our conscious grasp, yet, somehow it seems to happen. Gratitude is connecting to, communion with Love. Jesus said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (John8:32). Gratitude is a sure steppingstone to that knowledge. Mrs. Eddy likened it to perfume (S&H 367:15). Most of us apply perfume/cologne/aftershave. We must as readily apply this perfume, too. A song I still sing and play on the autoharp, from former Youth Group days of the Church I was brought up in, goes: “Whisper a prayer in the morning, Whisper a prayer at noon, Whisper a prayer in the evening, to keep your heart in tune. Verses follow that are: God answers prayer in the morning, etc., and then Christ comes to you (or me) in the morning, etc. The last verse uses each of these themes in succession-whisper in morning, God answers at noon, Christ comes in evening. (Author unknown) I think gratitude is that whispered prayer, and because it keeps us consciously aware, needs to be expressed throughout the day, which is unceasing prayer. #21 Olivia, when first reading about the fruit fly, I thought of the very special book you went on to mention! Thanks #23 Sher, I'll join that game, too.

My son is a pilot and when he returns from some harrowing flights, we always are grateful that he has his God given guidance to avoid these seeming huge dark clouds of error.
Whenever I fly, if I have the chance, I will always thank the pilot or first officer personally for a safe flight no matter how many obstacles they might have had to avoid. I trust in God's guidance for myself, my son, the pilots, fellow passengers, luggage handlers, field marshalling employees and all those others that are involved in making my (or his) flight a safe one.
Gratitude for one's fellow man needs to be expresses whenever possible, either by an acknowledgement of a job well done or a quiet prayer.
Thank you, Ginny, for this wonderful reminder to be grateful for all and everything.

Having a struggle over past few days with moving bowels, my focus on prayer had been specifically about how God was 'moving' everything in His universe, from the earth rotating on its axis to the blink of my eyelid.
Well, this prayer was helpful, but didn't clear my stomach. However, this afternoon I found myself thinking of a challenge my daughter was having with a colleague of hers at work. On the toilet seat, quite spontaneously I started telling God how grateful I was for this colleague for having shared her creative skills with my daughter.....and guess what......the next thing I knew, effortless movement and my stomach completely cleared out.
It happened so fast. I had to laugh, I couldn't believe that it was just a simple sincere voicing of gratitude that did it. Wow......from this day on, this gal's ATTITUDE is GRATITUDE!
Thank you all so much for wonderful inspiration and comments from the Daily Lifts to get thought moving.

Thank you so much Ginny, and a special thank you for your recent lectures in New Zealand. I love to start and finish each day with gratitude - there's always so much to be grateful for - God's abundant goodnes and supply often top the list, and even just having a warm snug bed to get into is something to be grateful for! Like others who have commented I have experienced healing just through being grateful. It's been a while since I have expressed my thanks for these precious daily lifts, so thank you to all of you, commenters included, for the cheerful, inspiring and uplifting messages we receive five days a week.

Great story of a child saving the attitudes of the grownups! Children certainly show us the light sometimes! Thank you, Ginny.

What amazing comments you all contributed. I love being part of this force for good! The power of the Bible teaching that to enter into the kingdom of heaven we must have the attitude of a little child was so brought home in the powerful voice of gratitude that little guy so beautifully expresses. I
Thank you all for your part and keep up the good work. Love from a wonderful month of lecturing down under... Ginny

Ginny sends boats of love from Australia. She's lecturing right now and away from a computer. I was told to send everyone some gratitude from her. She is so grateful for all of you. And, she hopes this "Gratitude" lift inspires more thankfulness and recognition of God's goodness. God is so good.

Ginny,
Thanks so much for the wonderful and inspiring work you do for us all and your desire to become a teacher and to make that a reality. Congrats. I mentioned to a young friend of mine who is struggling about your introduction into CS and your immediate freedom from unwanted attractions. It was an inspiration to my friend and she came to a lecture this past week that our local church was sharing with the community. All these expressions of gratitude on this comment posting are evidence that "gratitude brings riches".
Have a grateful day,

l find that to be grateful for, even the smallest experience or thing in my life, starting with God's ever-present Love, brings me out of even the deepest moments of despair. Loving God, and thanking Him for anything and everything, is a beautiful way to start, experience, and finish any given day and experience.
Loving alway enhances, always carries us through any experience of hatred and indifference. We see the hatred melt away in others, and enjoy a smile on their faces...we see all fear, doubt, unkindness, suspicion cease.
When our heart (our thought) is full of Love, the world is full of beauty....God's universe is full of beauty. And when we Love, selflessly, we see the Truth. "And God saw everything that [H]e had made, and, behold, it was very good." Genesis 1:31
"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Christ Jesus

- 5/18/2010Don't we all have something to be grateful for? As always, Ginny, you nailed it!
In spite that my mom tried to teach me to be grateful to God for blessings of all sizes I used to take every good thing for granted. Not till nearly 7 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with cancer that I learned the importance of being truly grateful for what I have and where it came from. Our Father-Mother gives us so much! I proved MBE's words many times, "Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more." (S&H 3:22)
SPANISH
(CyS 3:24)

- 5/18/2010Wow Ginny! What a great reminder to stay tuned into those child-like thoughts and expressions. It seems so often that "mature thinking" (or whatever we move to as we "grow up") encumbers our child-like trust and acceptance of God's bounty. Thank you. And greetings from SLT, CA!!!

- 5/18/2010Thank you Ginny for a great lift.

- 5/18/2010--Gratitude is powerful--(from today's Lift)
Some of what gratitude has brought into my life:
answers
forgiveness
healing
an improved attitude towards family, friends, & co-workers
depressed feelings lifted
hope---for today--for the future
useful items for daily life
a child in our family
a second child in our family
confidence in God as Life, Truth, & Love--meeting all needs--for all--everywhere
--all this & more--just for the willingness to be grateful.

- 5/18/2010A friend and I were talking tonight.

- 5/18/2010Thank you Ginny, for this great Daily Lift, reminding us that gratitude is the starting place of every healing.

- 5/18/2010How wonderful to see the good of that experience through the thoughts of gratitude from such a young boy.

- 5/18/2010Yes, gratitude makes happy, joyful and fills the consciousness with healthy thoughts. It heals. And it makes you experience more things to be grateful for! - 5/18/2010Sometimes I'm not grateful.

- 5/18/2010There was a little game I use to play while in college and that was the game of gratitude.

- 5/18/2010What a great story, Ginny! :)

I remember as a child when flying at lower altitudes than today, in propeller planes, how I loved going through the tropical thunderstorms! Every drop would bring forth a delighted "Whee" from me, while I'm sure everyone else had white knuckles and I was always disappointed when we got into calm air! In the middle of what one may feel lack of hope, I hear from you that "gratitude is powerful" and since we know, by Mary Baker Eddy´s writings that this feeling really gives way to receive more blessings than we expecet to, I can calm down. And like that sweet litlle voice you heard in the airport, I also hear from you that probably I´m "finding a treasure of great value" whence I express my honest gratitude to our beloved Father- Mother God for the blessings that reach me every single day!"

- 5/18/2010Amy..This was a good lift for me this morning, as I was feeling anything but grateful. I have been rehearsing a lot of hurt and betrayal by friends and family. I've let anger, disappointment, sadness and at times thoughts of revenge come into my thinking. This was a wakeup call for me. I had even found myself questioning Christian Science! Been there.

- 5/18/2010When I was introduced to Christian Science,my future mother-in-law kept stressing gratitude.

Not to be so hard on myself and to treasure each moment with that childlikeness. - 5/18/2010Ginny! (It's Him/Her again),
Note: "It's Him/Her again" from an old testimony in the Sentinel. a recurring response of gratitude for Him/Her.

courage/power/commitment to love more purely, unconditionally
freedom from negative lose-lose confusion
liberty from criticism, cynicism, discouragement, pain, fear, anger, hostility
dysfunctional relationships

inattentiveness/ resistance to learning is sin)
inspiration, energy, power, endurance
committed consecration to use each moment/opportunity to worship/glorify God
and serve others as we grow in grace/humble kindness
closeness to God, awareness of God, focus on God
impersonal, good-humored perspective
lessons and blessin's
insights
solutions that bless all involved and continue to expand blessings outward
healing
feeling/expressing/enjoying the heaven within each of us
Gratitude reminds us that no matter how horrible things seem, we always have more to be grateful for than we can count.

It's akin to faith which is close to understanding because it signals that even though we're having challenges, we know that good and thus God is here and more powerful. I guess the more challenging a time is, the more gratitude we should express for the good that is here. I haven't been doing that in a challenge I've had, but will try it today--thanks!

- 5/18/2010Thank you Ginny!!!

- 5/18/2010Knowing that I am grateful most of the time might let me rest on my laurels today if it wasn't for your wonderful inspiring message reminding me to be vigilantly expressing my joy and gratefulness in each and every moment!
Thank you! :)

- 5/18/2010Thank you, Ginny, for a reminder that I shouldn't need, but did!

- 5/18/2010In the THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MANUAL, page 60, in Article XVII, Mary Baker Eddy reminds us - "Gratitude and love should abide in every heart each day of all the years."
Thank you Ginny.

- 5/18/2010My son is a pilot and when he returns from some harrowing flights, we always are grateful that he has his God given guidance to avoid these seeming huge dark clouds of error.

- 5/18/2010Thank you Ginny for this timely Lift about the power of gratitude!
Today I witnessed how gratitude brings instantaneous results.

- 5/18/2010Thank you so much Ginny, and a special thank you for your recent lectures in New Zealand.

- 5/19/2010What amazing comments you all contributed. I love being part of this force for good! The power of the Bible teaching that to enter into the kingdom of heaven we must have the attitude of a little child was so brought home in the powerful voice of gratitude that little guy so beautifully expresses. I

- 5/19/2010Ginny sends boats of love from Australia. She's lecturing right now and away from a computer. I was told to send everyone some gratitude from her. She is so grateful for all of you. And, she hopes this "Gratitude" lift inspires more thankfulness and recognition of God's goodness. God is so good.

- 5/20/2010Ginny,
Thanks so much for the wonderful and inspiring work you do for us all and your desire to become a teacher and to make that a reality.
Have a grateful day,
your friend in West Virginia

- 5/20/2010l find that to be grateful for, even the smallest experience or thing in my life, starting with God's ever-present Love, brings me out of even the deepest moments of despair.
