- 4/23/2012It makes so much sense that if we would obey the 10 Commandments there would be no wars, even a little child could see this.
Putting God first we'll respect others and so we would see our identity reflected in His LOVE, we couldn't do less!
God has chose us to be His children, can we see that we ALL are “the offspring of Spirit“? S&H 63:5
CyS 63:4

- 4/23/2012YES. In addition to the succinct commandments of Christ Jesus, my favorite way that
I remember obeying The Ten Commandments is by singing along with Susan Mack and The Solo Committee song, "Ten Ways to be Happy" on the CD "3 Steps and a Bounce", available in Christian Science reading rooms. Great way for children to learn, and a light-hearted way for me to refresh what truly makes us happy and brings us in touch with peace and joy and security in our lives. Praise God!

- 4/23/2012God said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM. And Jesus said, I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. (EX.3:14, John7:29). Christian Science says, Jesus presented the ideal of God better than could any man whose origin was less spiritual. By his obedience to God, he demonstrated more spiritually than all others the Principle of being. Hence the force of his admonition, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." (Science and Health, p.25:16).

- 4/23/2012Many thanks Mary Alice for this great reminder. Yes. "Each one of us has a role to play in bringing peace to the world." "Till time and space and fear are naught/ My [our] quest shall never cease,/ Thy [Love's] presence ever goes with me/ And Thou dost give me [all of us] peace." (Christian Science Hymnal #136).

- 4/23/2012I like the idea that instead of "Dont's" the ten commandments could read "thou shalt have no need to steal...kill...bear false witness...commit adultery" etc. I like the simple prayer that was published by The Mother Church years ago to help little children: filled up full with thoughts from God.

- 4/23/2012Thank you - I never thought about the ten commandments like that - very helpful!

- 4/23/2012Thank you Mary Alice,
This morning as I left home on my bicycle, I did so with much prayer and expectation. I have to encounter an individual as part of my weekly routine. We are volunteers but they always have some reason why they cannot perform tasks and ultimately more tasks have been falling on me.
I have explained that my plate is more than full but they never stop and they talk down to me in a very negative manner as they try to assign the tasks. Believe it or not, based on the organizational chart, I am their senior. This weekend they did a number of things to hamper the progress of my work which also negatively affected another volunteer. I am tempted to quit, but that Still Small Voice says to "press on"
As I rode the bike, I prayed for peace, more patience and love and through my actions to send the right healing message to the individual and those looking on. During the ride I saw two clouds looking as if they are now about to touch one another, one on the West, the other on East.
The one on the West was thick with rain, the other radiant with a soft morning glow, edges trimmed with light. I then remembered that the rain clouds always sit lower in the sky which means the radiant clouds will never be touched by these rain clouds. These rain clouds have their work to do, but they never touch the ones radiant with sun. Immediately I felt healed as a sense of peace took over my thought.
Today's Lift helped reinforce this healing. Very timely. THANKS!

- 4/23/2012Thanks so much, Mary Alice, for sharing the precious little six year old's solution for peace - obeying the 10 Commandments. What a simple, yet profound, solution we can all practice in our daily lives.

- 4/23/2012Thank you for this lift. There is so much in it. How interesting that the little child summed up the method of bringing peace in ten words. Adults may well have taken so many more words in their essays to say the same thing.

- 4/23/2012Thanks for the reminder, Mary Alice, and to the DL for sending it out to the world. Comes the dawn, encircling the world day by day bringing us light. Jesus taught and lived love so amazingly, so gloriously and practically, that nothing has ever been the same since. A so-called six year old of the twenty first century got it and said so. Love really is universal and triumphant.

- 4/23/2012Thank you Mary Alice. It was inspiring to listen and to read what Troy of Barbados had to write, since I currently struggle. i feel gratitude for the dailylift and the internet power to be able to reach out this morning. The rain here in the Northeast has persisted throughout the weekend. This site is a spot of light on a grey morning.

- 4/23/2012Thank you, Mary Alice! I can't wait to hear and view your new Lecture! I was just listening to a Sentinel Radio CD where one of the Speakers said that by Loving God and feeling and knowing God's Love for us, we can't help but Love our neighbors. He said that since God Is Love, Love Itself, we are made of the essence of Love and that loving ourselves and others is what we were made to do. If we truly surrender, we can't help being the Love that we are! Our only job is to tear down any false, self-created, mortal-mnd-created beliefs that seem to block the flow of that Love! Yes, Let there be Peace and Love on Earth and It has Begun With Me! XO!

- 4/23/2012This was especially precious since it was exactly what my Sunday School pupil and I had talked about yesterday. I immediately sent it on to her and we will have some good follow-up, I'm sure.

- 4/23/2012Thank you, Mary Alice! The Ten Commandments have always been a source of prayer and peace for me. It seems I can take most situations to them and find the joy, peace and healing that is needed.
Thanks for the lecture -- enjoyed it in Dallas and think it is wonderful to continue to have the message.
I like the idea of making commandments/rules in positive terms -- not in don'ts; helps all of us to follow them better!

- 4/23/2012Thank you, Mary Alice. A good reminder: Obeying the Ten Commandments is BEing good/livng the GOOD LIFE. It is "as in heaven, so on earth" living, the state of consciousness in which peace is actively applied and in this way blesses all. What if the angels at Jesus' birth were actually sharing a Christian mandate as if it were a matematical equation: Peace on Earth = Good Will towards Men? By then, Men already had the commandments. Jesus explained and showed us how to live under them lovingly and consistently by God's grace for God's glory and the highest good of all concerned. It's all about love for God (Love, itself!) and love for each other. It's the no "if" clause, that we have to overcome: To love above and beyond manmade barriers like race, religion, socio-economic, class, educational, and political - even familial affilications - all human arrogance yielding to this Divine code of conduct - The Ten Commandments. Peace can be achieved and sustained in no other way. I heard just yesterday: "They weren't called, 'The Ten Recommendations!'" :-) Thanks again, Mary Alice.

- 4/23/2012One of the worst crimes humanity is facing is the horrific (and doomed) attempt to violate the childlike thought by making children into soldiers. I'm praying today to see and know the completeness and satisfaction of children and adults alike:
That every child is so fully mothered and fathered by God and the ever-operating Christ, that no criminal intent has an opportunity. (God reached Ishmael where he was in the wilderness, even when his mother was giving up.) Each child can hear and obey "the still, small voice" and stay safe. And they can help each other, too.
That the so-called "criminal mind" is arrested by Truth itself. In place of a crime, each one's true, childlike innocence, completeness, satisfaction can gain the upper hand, along with a means to escape tyranny. The Ten commandments are KNOWN to all: they are "written on our inward parts."
I hope other Lifters will pray with me today for this awakening--the never-wasness of this seeming. I want to see more clearly that the childlike thought is both safe and empowered to heal. Thanks so much, Mary Allice, for the connection of individual law-abidingness to world peace.

- 4/23/2012How simple and wonderful. The discipline of thought the "Lift" speaks of, put in the terms of obeying the Commandments, is easy to keep in mind throughout the day. As I think about the Commandments and challenge myself to see whether or not I'm keeping them -- and as I find myself being successful -- I can be sure I'm contributing to world peace. It's a way of following Christ Jesus command "repent for the kingdome of God is at hand." Sweet.

- 4/23/2012What a lovely wake up message i got this morning. thank you Mary Alice and thank you Troy from Barbados! I have been concerned with a situation in my family and have demanded of myself not to go into the lie. Love is present to heal it.
Troy #17, your strength of purpose to serve God is a great inspiration and the lovely word picture of the two clouds is very helpful. Over all is brightness and peace even though the rain cloud must do its work first. It never touches the bright light of Love but is a part of the healing.
The two great Commandments are our protection and our way of serving God. Sally
In Progress
- 4/23/2012Just a little addition to my other comment:
I think it's important to be alert to states of thought like 'horror' or 'outrage' or 'gripped by terror' because these suggest that I'm believing the picture being presented by the news or mortal mind. To heal, I know I need to be unimpressed...to keep consciousness in the Christly peace that KNOWS that animal magnetism is "a chained lion."
What is the fact that the counterfact picture is trying to hide? Probably that there's only One Mind. All-inclusive Love. May we know our oneness with the Father-Mother this day.
Holly from California
- 4/23/2012Thank you so much for your Lift today!!! I was reminded last week of this quote from Mary Baker Eddy when our dear C.S. Church was asked at a Wednesday Evening Testimony Meeting to pray for a peaceful solution of the North Korean missile test. "A small group of wise thinkers is better than a wilderness of dullards and stronger than the might of empires." Miscellany 162:7-9

- 4/23/2012Mary Alice, Thanks - this eminds me of this I was able to find at www.jsh-online.com (or www.spirituality.com). It was published in 1883 in "The Christian Science Journal" by Pioneer. Lori
"Our Place"
I believe that God has given to every one a place, and in this harmonious creation there is no void,--nothing left out, nothing lacking,--so we may as well try to breathe without air, or think without mind,as to think we can rotate out of the divine order of being, or take any place other than our own. Others may try to usurp us; they may try to be like us; they may move earth, and apparently heaven, to gain our position; but when God has placed us there, we are there, and naught can move us out of this our rightful inheritance.
If this were understood, many warfares would cease; envy and jealousy be exchanged for the peaceful gleams of joy and gratitude; and, mingling with the light of love, would bring to man new health and happiness,--yea, Life immortal.
We never see the stars vieing for each other's places, nor the sun and moon at variance; nor have we seen a Paul take Peter's place, or John the place of our Master, or vice versa. Each fills its own, her own, his own place, whether they have knowledge of it or not; and I, for one, would be content in the sweet consciousness that I have a place with Thee, eternal Love; and however grand or great, humble or small, I am of thy creation; therefore thine."

- 4/23/2012Thanks Mary Alice Rose. So much changes but those 10 commandments never change. When I was a kid, I thought they were easy. Now, not always easy. Some were a guarantee, hands down, no brainer, like remember the Sabbath day, keep it holy. But I can't say, yesterday was easy. So thanks for making me realize, I am one with the Christ, and God's law of adjustment, can get these commandments easy again. I can see why Mrs Eddy just reduced it to one word, "Love". Love should be easy, if I remember, I am not doing it God is.
God is sending my parent to honor, this week. What a great opportunity to prove this joy.

- 4/23/2012Your message certainly overturns the old "eye for an eye" and vengeful "get even" human tendency, and in such an intelligent way and for such a practical purpose: to engender peace in relationships, neighborhoods, and the world! What some would call merely "being objective" (much less, cynicism) is actually the uplifting love of the Christ influencing one, discarding reaction to perceived mistreatment by others, and instead embracing an opportunity to love more, heal more, progress more. Thank you so much!

- 4/23/2012Gorgeous Lift! Thank you! I lost my wallet today. After retracing my steps with my three school aged children before I dropped them at school, it had been turned in at the grocery store. I saw so clearly the utter and absolute goodness of mankind. I could have kissed the clerk who handed it to me. And I thank my three dear kids who are being raised to know and love God. One of them said, "mom, it will be returned". Such a sweet trust in good. I am so grateful for my understanding of the power of Duvine Love.

- 4/23/2012Thank you, Mary Alice, you've given us a project! This needs to be consciously refreshed daily. I see a connection. If we do unto others as we'd love to have them do, in our every transaction with people, including our thoughts of them, we'd have Mrs. Eddy's Lord's Prayer interpretation, "And love is reflected in love". By our thoughts and actions reflected, those who reflect them, in turn, would inspire and receive love in an ever outward circle, resulting in world peace, like the little girl said. If only one of us did this, it would take awhile, but all of us hearing this Lift ...! Comments prove, (so far in April) up to 129 took a Lift seriously. Many more didn't comment, yet are just as serious in applying the inspiration. Still to count are others who were shared the thought by listeners, yet who in turn, adopt the uplifting messages, even if they didn't hear the original from the lecturer. Multiply all known & unknown people inspired, by an equally unknown number of contacts or those on whom their thoughts rest. The figures, though unknown, are mind boggling! What an impact! Each of those caught up in reflecting, increase the recipients, who, in turn, reflect on, and on...! This is math without numbers, but with concepts, and it, the goal, is achievable much sooner than we might imagine! We can meet the Monitor's, and the little girl's goal, proving, "and a little child shall lead them." (Isa.11:6) No need to wait for all to plan to obey the 10 C's, we turn it on!

- 4/23/2012Merci !

- 5/23/2012Homework for any one reading this daily lift about the Ten Commandments Write all the commandments down making space between each commandment, and writing your thoughts of what each commandment means to you, based on your prayer "Dear father in heaven, enable me to understand what these commandments mean in it's spiritual sense." One example, take Commandment #3 Thou shalt have no other Gods before me. One could say don't worship some one who is a great singer or actor, but know that talents come from God. This kind of thinking could actually help the singer or actor better himself or herself in their craft.
