2/14: Give your heart to God

2/14: Give your heart to God

  1. Thank you John for this beautiful Lift. As we open our heart to God we begin to feel God's presence and power operating in our lives. In response to the question,"Do you believe in change of heart?" Mrs Eddy responded in part,"The human affections need to be changed from self to benevolence and love for God and man; changed to having but one God and loving Him supremely, and helping our brother man. This change of heart is essential to Christianity, and will have its effect physically as well as spiritually, healing disease." (Miscellaneous Writings, page 50-51) Turning our heart over to God reinforces our love for God and man.

  2. How very true. While I am not presently in any of the situations you mentioned, how very true your statements are as I know from experience. God heals, comforts, and guides.

  3. I am staying up late to make a Valentine for my husband and I loved your message. I picked a quote from Mary Baker Eddy to use on my card - "Love never loses sight of loveliness. Its halo rests upon its object." (S&H page 248). Isn't that Lovely?

  4. Thank you John
Thats just what my daughter and I are doing today.
We said we will have a LOVE day.
It is our !st year without her Daddy and my husband but we are feeling loved.
    Thank You so much
    Vxxx

  5. wonderful John. To those of us that are dealing with sadness or feelings of loneliness. Thank you for the reminder!

  6. Thank you, very true and always comforting, never ending is the love from Her/Him when we give our heart to God. Thank you for the loving DL. Aloha from Monika

  7. Thank you, John. Just what was I needed for today and everyday. Your message is a daily reminder.

  8. Thank you John.
Your lift comfort me this morning. Wonderful
    Robert T. Puna

  9. John,
    Thank you

  10. Thank you John, such uplifting thoughts and so needed by each one of us. To V and her daughter (4) Thank you for sharing the pure idea of a LOVE day, knowing that we can all share it with you. Have a wonderful time!

  11. Many thanks John for reminding us of the various meanings and uses of the word heart that appears in The Holy Bible (KJV) 765 times. Yes. "Happy the man whose heart can rest,/ Assured God's goodness ne'er will cease;/ Each day, complete, with joy is blessed,/ God [divine Love] keepeth him in perfect peace." (Christian Science Hymnal #93).

  12. Of course we want to be loved and understood! To me, man came up with the heart shape to compensate for our vulnerability, our need for affection.
Little kids love the heart shape as much as a circle or a square, they can easily identify with love.
Reminding the children more often about the love that God has for them might even help heal the world of hate and rancour.
This Valentines Day, is a good opportunity to open our heart and feel God's tender presence, it's really the only Love constant in our life.

  13. Thank you.

  14. How does one know what is "nearest and dearest" to one's heart. At the aviation museum for early era aircraft, where antique airplane pilots take off and land on grass and only in good daylight visibility without instruments, sometimes a pilot will repeat the observation, "It's not the landing strip behind you that matters, but the landing strip in front of you that matters." Because the only remaining ground is covered with trees. Not a good place to end up a bi-plane.
Mrs. Eddy tells us, "It is of comparatively little importance what a man thinks or believes he knows; the good that a man does is the one thing needful and the sole proof of rightness." (The First Church of Christ Scientist and Miscellany. pages 271-273.)

  15. Dear John

Thank you so much for your upliftig message for all.

What a privilage it is for one to have been given the gift of Love and to be able to share it with all of mankind.

Again may one humbly say, THANK YOU.

    Love in Christ

    Peter Reichl-Cunningham CS

  16. Thank you John. Perfect.

  17. Thank you! Very warmly expressed!

  18. What a tender thought. Thank you.

  19. Thank you for this Lovely Lift.

  20. Thank you John for a truly heartfelt message. And thanks to all LIfters who have already sent in their comments, really heartwarming!

  21. That's the best Valentine's card I've ever received, John. It was heartfelt and warm and very very loving. Thank you very much. I really appreciated your Lift. My friends are always surprised and delighted when they receive their Valentine's Day cards. One year I gave one to everyone at church. That Valentine's Day was on a Sunday. Years ago they were handmade and colourful, but today the email delivered early morning joy, and mostly a good dose of mirth. Those who live in the Northern Hemisphere receive theirs a day early, but no one complains.
Happy Valentine's Day Nate and the production team; our wonderful BoL and lecturers who always turn up trumps; and all our amazing Lift family. Happy Valentine's Day and love from Margaret xx

  22. Yes, given with love

  23. Thank you for this LOVEly DL! It made me think about what Mrs Eddy says in page 365 of Science and Health. "The poor suffering heart needs its rightfl nutriment, such as peace, patience in tribulation, and a price sense of the dear Father´s loving-kindness." We are all loved and cherished by our Creator God.

  24. Just what I needed to hear this morning, thank you! I look forward to sharing this idea with others.

  25. Thank you for this beautiful message. It is full of comfort and blessings for each and every one of us, everywhere. I am grateful.

Bisous

  27. John, thanks for such an appropriate message on Valentine's Day.

  28. Thank you!... from out a sunny snow-white winterday here in the Black Forest - all His/Her nature teaches us God's love to us all, too - while we learn to place our affections rightly.

  29. What a beautiful way to start a Love filled day!

  31. What a helpful lift, John. Thank you so much. What you say is so tender and kind. It gives me the feeling of sitting in God's lap, totally safe and peaceful!
    Great!

  32. I am taking this as my very own Valentine and it's the best one I have ever received. Thank you.

  33. Thank you so much for the important and comforting message.

  34. Thank you John. What an endearing loft.

  35. Thank you, John, for the very healing and comforting thoughts in this Lift to be cherished each Love day! Thanks, too, to the Daily Lift staff and Lifter comments - with special thanks to #1.

  36. Thank you John!

  37. Dear John,
Thank you so much for this really beautiful and helpful Lift. Very moving and straight to the heart.!
Happy Valentines Day to you as well!
    Love Pippa

  38. Thank you, John, for “Give your heart to God … value a loved One … ‘God is Love’ … He loves you dearly.” Great reminder! There were times when I came to such words in tears. Then, I began to better understand and companion with these angel messages. Transient human love seems so fragile; whereas constant Divine love is, well – constant!

Mrs. Eddy wrote, “I make strong demands on love, call for active witnesses to prove it, and noble sacrifices and grand achievements as its results. Unless these appear, I cast aside the word as a sham and counterfeit, having no ring of the true metal. Love cannot be a mere abstraction, or goodness without activity and power” (Mis 250). And my mom used to say, "Love is the most powerful force on earth." Then she'd add with a smile, "... no!… in the universe!"

It’s been easy to give my heart to God, as I’ve recognized that “my heart” is God. I find that when I let Divine love lead me, my Love life is intact. Yielding to Divine love has helped me to be more loving in my human relationships. So, inspired by your Lift, today, I’m going to pay very close attention to really focus on putting into practice the answer to, “Lord, what is the most loving thing I can think, say, and do?” I don’t want to miss even one opportunity to celebrate Love by sharing it sincerely!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Remember, we're always in Love. :-)

  39. Thank you, for the reminder of God's love for each of us.

  40. Thanks so much, John, for the love expressed in your voice and the message. The first hymn that came to mind this morning was #139, " I walk with Love along the way, And O, it is a holy day: No more I suffer cruel fear, I feel God's presence with me here; The joy that none can take away Is mine; I walk with Love today."

Dear fellow lifters may your hearts be filled with "joy that none can take away." Happy Valentines Day to all!!!

  41. I knew I shouldn't have listened to this lift this morning! I was all set to just wallow in self pity feeling
sorry for myself with memories past but, having listened to you, I see that I'm not off the hook and have work to do if I'm to give all my heart to God, who will "feed those famished affections" (which all those cookies I've been eating have failed to do!).

"Is the heart a living power? Self-entwined its strength sinks low; It can only live in loving, and, by serving, love will grow." C.S. Hymnal 360

    Thanks, I think! Ha.

  42. Each of us are God's sweethearts .

  43. Thank you for a delightful and warm DL John. Happy Love Day to all of you including the DL team!

  44. Most beautiful Valentine ever. Thank you, John

  45. Thank You!
We need to listen at this wonderful words. Because without God you can not love somebody else. And you cant love your self without God.
God loves you. And guides you. And when you know and understand that, you can love your self. And know that you can even love other peoples.
    We are all God
    s children. All of us.

  46. On this day of love, I am thinking of a comforting hymn:

    Love knows no evil, neither shade of sadness;
Love casts out every fear, lifts the heart to gladness.
    Love heals our every ill,
All the law does love fulfill.
    Love is our answered prayer.

    Christian Science Hymnal, # 179

And there is Mrs. Eddy's wise counsel: What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds. (Science and Health, pg. 4) Today and every day, let me express more love.

Thank you, John. Thank you, dear Mother Church, for this beautiful blessing.

  47. Wow! Profound ! Yeah, my father has my heart, your heart and all hearts bound together in perfect love and unity.

  48. Thank you so much!
You had exactly the words I needed to hear. It's so heartwarming.

  49. Thank you, dear John and all you wonderful Lifters. This Daily Lift and all your comments have
made this day a very special Valentine's Day. I know that all of you will have as great a
Valentine's Day as I expect to have. Love to all.

  50. Thanks. There is a quote from a fragment of a letter by MBE given in Rolling Away the Stone by S. Gottschalk that I've found helpful: "The design of Christian Science is to open the human heart to the direct influence of divine Love." That is our daily purpose. Thanks again.

  51. "Let the Love that has no measure
    Now in quickening showers descend"
    (Hymn 119)

    --on you, on all.

    HEARTfelt thanks,

  52. Thanks John, and for such good comments. This reminded me of part of a verse from one of Mary Baker Eddy's poems "Signs of the Heart":

    O Love divine,
    This heart of Thine
Is all I need to comfort mine.

That's on page 24 of the book of her poetry called simply Poems.

  53. A sweet thank you to John and everyone who has shared.

  54. Thank you John!
    Happy Valentine's Day and
    Love to all.....

  55. Thank you John. What a tender and encouraging message. My hssband passed on a number of years ago, and I have found my love growing for him year after year. This love has replaced whatever unkind memories lingered, as I have dwelt only on the infinite loving qualities of God that my husband displayed while with us, and continues to display, I'm sure, throughout eternity.

  56. So perfect... thank you this timely message!

  57. Such "heart-warming" ideas above, beginning with your lift, John--just bringing us up to that great heart of Love which meets all human needs. Thank you all so much.
"For Love divine, from heart to heart,
Speaks kindly when we meet and part.'

  58. Last night I made a home made Valentine's card, with the help of a free on line card website, for my wife, having not made the time to buy one. It made me feel good to make it and include my own sentiments. This lift reminds me of the first Valentine's day in grade school when we made and exchanged cards with our classmates. It is a good day to express our "mortal feelings, motives, affections and joys,..." and overcome our sorrows. Thanks for ALL the expressions on this daily lift.

  59. THANK YOU!

  60. Thank you John, for your "sweet" message that will never end.

  61. "Open your heart." Don't you love it? On this Valentine's Day, John, thank you for lifting us all up above the material trappings to the spiritual surprises -- treasure -- God has for each and every one of us today!

  62. I just heard about the idea of making Valentine's day into Generosity Day-- give in some way to everyone you encounter, from a person on the street to a tired child to a demanding boss to the person who serves you at the grocery or restaurant. Turn the day from longing to blessing. Jesus said that God gives freely to all without regard to whether they "deserve" it, just as the sun shines or the plum tree blooms equally for all. What a great way to celebrate this day-- and perhaps every day.

  63. Thanks John for this beautiful valentine. I read in a recent Sentinel that "Grace is the state in which God loves us so we can love others." It was the most beautiful explanation of Grace to me. So, if God loves me how can I not love others. May everyone have a joyous loving day, today and every day.
Special valentines to the Daily Lift team and lecturers.

  64. Thank you so much John for a message to the hearts --

To all who listen and share insights on the Daily Lift, our world wide community, and
the lecturers, producers, Nate, the musicians, the Board of Lectureship, Shannon, the interpreters, the Mother Church Board of directors-- Heart-felt gratitude and love.
And love to all the family of humanity everywhere.

  65. john,
Thank-you for a sweet and tender reminder of Our Father-Mothers Love for
    us

  66. Best Valentine Ever!
    thank you.

  67. John, your messages/Lifts are always deeply loving, compassionate and wise --- thank-you tres beaucoup! From Mary Baker Eddy's Hymn: 'LOVE' (#30-32) comes her words/thoughts --- "And life most sweet, as heart to heart Speaks kindly when we meet and part." Good/God's ideas to-live-by....... Heart-strengthening Lifter comments - thanks! DL team, thank-you for your leavening work! Our Loving God bless(es) one-&-all.

  68. Thank you John.Your loving lift has become a living valentine that I have sent to those I love.Thank you also for your dedication to God and Christian Science.

  69. Thank you, John.
I'll be sharing this Valentine with friends today.
Sending much love to all Lifters!

  70. Love does indeed have infinite love, goodness and smiles pouring down on all of us. And we are receptive to these magnificent gifts!
Happy Hearts Day to one and all!!

  71. Romantic love is intense and interesting! But (in my experience, anyway) it tends to pull us a little off-balance and away from our other loves, which all together make quite a lush garden!

For now, I'm just enjoying the many other kinds of love: love for brothers and sisters, love for neighbors, love for colleagues, love of a certain piece of music, love for the people who package and mail and deliver whatever we order, love for all of you Lifters, love for CS practitioners around the world, love for honest business owners, love for people in prison or newly out of prison, love for young people just finding their way, love for the so-called aged who keep encouraging and supporting others, love of honesty and Truth...this list is long enough, but I really could keep going (and so can you)!

Today, I'll see how Love is loving me back!

  72. Couldn't we view "VALENTINES DAY" as a celebration of the true HEART that God gives us. Instead of Candy, Cards or a nice meal at a high class restaurant, let's make this day, a day of Love being expressed multiplying every day as a heart giving love affair with God's finest creation, MAN! The true way of making love is seeing man in God's image and likeness.
    By TOBIAS A. WEISSMAN

  73. What a Lovely lift! Thanks John!

  74. That is beautiful. Thank you.

  75. Thank you.

  76. And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord.
    Hosea 2: 19, 20
And then I'll marry you for good -- forever!
I'll marry you true and proper, in love and tenderness.
Yes, I'll marry you and neither leave you nor let you go.
You'll know me, God for who I really am. The Message

  77. Loved your message, John, but the way you delivered that last line: He loves you dearly, with the emphasis on the last word, really touched my heart! I remember reading recently that the gospels are a love letter from God....herein lies the route to true love, Jesus leading the way, receiving his words and actions straight from his Father-Mother Love! I am grateful to be learning more of God as Love, and also grateful for the human expression of love in my life. Love IS reflected in Love (as Mary Baker Eddy tell us-my capitals).

  78. THANK YOU, JOHN, AND HOW WELL I KNOW AND SO VERY GRATEFUL EACH AND EVERY DAY.

  79. John, your message and voice really touched my heart. It was so tender and sweet...and exactly what I needed to hear. I will carry this lift with me throughout the day. All of the comments have been so helpful as well. Thank you everyone, and a Love-filled day to all!

  80. " LOVE IS REFLECTED IN LOVE " every day.

  81. `This lift and all the responses made this a perfect Valentine's day with all of us held in God's tender love. Thank you everyone. El Paso Patt

  82. Mend and Heal, thanks

  83. LOVE> LOVE LOVE thats ALL
    there is!!!!!!!

  84. Thank you John for the perfect love-filled lift and thank you to all the commentators for their caring loving comments!!! Happy Loving Valentine's Day to all!!!

  85. Thank you, Mr. Adams for your kindness, recognizing there are those of us with broken hearts. With the genuine caring in your loving voice you have helped guide at least one of us back to a true sense of Love and God's ever presence.

  86. I am grateful God brought my wife and me together, so that we might support each other in our individual relationships w our Maker. After all, we are both His children. We are all brethren after this manner, and so I love all of us! May we all come to know the Love of our divine Parent for all of us and for each and every one of us. And may we all come to know the sibling love we have for each other, husbands and wives included, because that is the amplification of our divine Parent's Love for us, and it is what Jesus came to convey to us as sent by our Parent. We are NEVER alone. Only material sense would box us in. I am EXTREMELY grateful for this learned lesson!

    Thanks John!

    Love you Lifters!
    Love you Jayne!

    Seeker, #42, loved your statement!
Deen, #62, I love no one excluded through Generosity Day!
Martin, #1, always appreciate your concise articulation.

    76, Karen, GREAT Bible quote!

I love scrolling through all the comments more than once to read them all and see where my siblings are from..

  87. Thank you John for this moving, insightful sharing and to 1 and 35, which bring to mind a phrase from MBE, "As you journey, and betimes sigh for rest 'beside the still waters,' ponder this lesson of love. Learn its purpose; and in hope and faith, where heart meets heart reciprocally blest . . .". ". . .heart meets heart reciprocally blest"—an ideal for human relationships in all their contexts.

  88. Thank you so much for this tenderly expressed advice to give all our heart to God.
When we really do so it heals all hurt feelings. And LOVE is reflected in love, Thank you, John !

  89. Thank you for this clear and warm lift . Now everybody is the « Valentine » of God , as each of us is the loved of Love ! Can we ask for more? In this meaning, Happy Valentine’s day to you John and to everybody !

  90. Some others have already said what is in my heart, but I'll say it anyway: John, I have always loved your messages, and your delivery, but oh . . . today, there was a new depth of healing love in your words. And your voice . . .well, I can't imagine anyone's voice sounding any more tender, and any more quietly confident of the truth of what is being said. This message, via your delivery, was straight from God's heart to mine. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

And sweet love to all the DL family. You are my family, in the truest sense of the word.

  91. Inge from Norway.

Thank you so much for this comforting explanation what heart is, LOVE, this I will never forget.
I got this when I most needed it.

  92. In the First Edition of Science and Health, Mrs. Glover (M.B.E.) writes: "My son, give me thy heart,".... The whole sentence reads: "'My son, give me thy heart,'" restores concord to all the dependencies and relations of being." What a power in our lives when we do give GOD our hearts!

  93. Thank you John for such a true & comforting message.

    Blessings,
    Katie

  94. Thank you my heart was broken a few days ago. This is a helpful reminder.

  95. I was just noticing a pang of " heartache" this day, longing , yes, for mortal folks I love..dearly, yet, who are out of reach right now. BUt this switch in thought , spiritualizing True Love..and True Heart lifted the spirit of my own longing here, and so I take heart...and pass it all to GOD and invite him IN and celebarte the Heart Day in Truth , and Light and Love.Already my heart is light and is Light Filled!!!

Thank you for your bringing this Truth to thought.. Merri

  96. Thank you so much. Yes, God is Love and loves all today and everyday.

  97. Thanks, Steve. You're sweet. I hope all the love you so generously give to others returns to you many times over...With love, Jayne

  98. Too beautiful for words. Thank you, John, for the loving message on this day of LOVE.
    xoxo

  99. Name - 2/14/2013

John - your closing words that he (God) loves you dearly brought a loving remembrance to mind: "I love you dearly". They were the last words my dear husband said to me just before he passed on six and one-half years ago in my presence.

    Lovingly grateful.

  100. John, thank you for this tender, healing message. It is going out to heal the world.

  101. I LOVE this message and would like to echo Maureen's (#90) comments! Thank you!

  102. "Pause to value a loved one" - that phase helped me see that value and valentine start the same. .But i especially appreciate being led back to the love of God. Thank you for this tender Valentine's day message.

  103. John,
I shared this with a young friend of another faith who is very spiritual and this is her reply:

"I loved it! The world makes us feel that if we aren't receiving boxes of candy or teddy bears on Valentine's Day then we aren't as special or loved. But these are material things. God is the only one who can truly fulfill our hearts! God IS love. This daily lift was perfect!"

Your lift was also delivered in such a warm, loving tone...thank you!

  104. This message was a treasure for everyday. Many thanks, and much love to you for sharing it.

  105. GOOD, TIMELY MESSAGE, JOHN! THANK YOU.

  106. Thank you, John, for the timely message.

  107. That's the full epitome of it!

  108. Thx Jayne, :-)!

  109. Give your heart to God-- wow! Wonder of Wonders! It never ocurred to me to do just that. I LOVE God, but to give my heart to God also means to me to bear my deepest thoughts to God, every moment of every day and night. Alway-- all space, all time, all in all. Thank you, JQ, for bringing to light, the heart of LOVE for God-- we ARE His/Her precious children! --Rob of the Rockies

  110. A tender gracious lift to which i am very grateful. Thank you

  111. I am a teenager... And I am having ALOT of trouble trying to get over my first "love". Can someone please help me

  112. Dear Rachel #111..

Many know what you're going thru. A first love is very precious. But, there is another love that was even before him. Speaking of God, the Bible reminds us "We love him because he first loved us." God's love for you is eternal. It is constant. It embraces all under every circumstance. If you'd like, you can go to Christian Science.com and find the directory to Christian Science practitioners who will be happy to talk with you and share God's love with you.
