Thank you John for this important and practical Lift. God is not the cause of so-called natural disasters. Instead, God forever protects his spiritual creation. The spiritual man dwells in the consciousness of Love, forever surrounded and protected by his omnipotent Father-Mother God. We learn that Science reverses the testimony of the material senses, bringing to light the spiritual fact that there is no power opposed to God. Mary Baker Eddy says in S&H page 293, "The material so-called gases and forces are counterfeits of the spiritual forces of divine Mind, whose potency is Truth, whose attraction is Love, whose adhesion and cohesion are Life, perpetuating the eternal facts of being."

God, divine Principle, Love, "the same yesterday, today, and forever," "the One altogether lovely," as Mrs Eddy says, could never send an affirmation, or manifestation of His power, or exercise His strength contrary to His good, harmless nature... And humanity is united and brought together by the Christ, Truth "whereby the greater always helps the lesser, in one grand brotherhood," as Mrs Eddy reassures us, and humanity is led to re-build better, improve, progress, spiritualize and to bring "into captivity every thought unto the obedience of Christ," as Paul says, and finally, "when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto Him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all." (I Cor 15)

God is everywhere and we are reflecting his/her power. No matter internet connection or languages. If we are calm to feel the connectivity, we'll know our Mother-Vather-God is every where with each of us. We may have the whole planet in our prayer, but we all are part of him. We can trust that everybody is having this connection in his/her own language and own way. We all will find a way to move on. Even when we feel, around us is all apart. We may see a picture we don't like and we don't know how long it will stay like this, but "He said his word and healed them (us) and delivered then from their distractions. Today I'll work on focusing!

We, too, in South Africa have seen the havoc caused by heavy rains in KwaZuluNatal, and it is good to know that the power of God is mightier far than what the material senses are telling us.As Elena # 4 quotes MBE from S&H 473:8 God being All and everywhere, then nothing, no storm or flooding is present or has power. (not a quotation) I also love that hymn, No 144 which Malcolm #5 quotes. the thought of God holding each and everyone perfect in His Love. How safer could they be, with God right there with them? Listening to your inspiring Lift for today, the thought of "Family" understood spiritually came alive again because, as God´s children we are one family and we are held in God´s protecting arms. God governs himself and by governing Himself, He governs the world, as Mary Baker Eddy explains. In threatening weather conditions she taught us to look through the clouds and see God´s face.

Thank you, everyone who prays during these difficult disasters. When Sandy came through, we lost everything on our first floor, including CS books, computer, piano... Family helped but for two weeks I was operating on automatic pilot, saying and doing the right things. Then slowly I worked my way out, with bits from two hymns: "In atmosphere of Love divine, we live and move and breathe"..."And o'er earth's troubled, angry sea I see Christ walk, And come to me and tenderly, divinely talk, Thus Truth engrounds me on the rock, Upon Life's shore, 'Gainst which the winds and waves can shock, O never more." I finally came to realize that although I was in a black funk, others were praying - and that was a tremendous though unseen (at the time) help, so, thank you, everyone, all our "family members!" We've made a little apartment for ourselves on our upstairs level, and are learning a new normal. Including being able to pray, read the Lesson, talk with a practitioner...

It is right to love and nurture ourselves and to expect to be on a fulfilling Life Path. Wonderful lift John, so calming and reassuring. In Unity of Good, the chapter Rectifications (pg.20) Mrs. Eddy tells us how to rectify a mistake "by seeing it in its proper light; and then turning it or turning from it." When re-reading that passage recently, the words "turning it or turning from it" leaped off the page for me. That's exactly what you did in this lift when addressing the weather. We can turn mistakes into truths or simply turn from mistakes, which also leads us to Truth. The "reality" we perceive as weather, illness or sin is not real. We can turn it in our minds to truth, goodness, life and love. And doing that is prayer and we find ourselves at God's doorstep. Thank you John and thank you all for your wonderful insights. This lift never lets us down but simply raises our level of thought every day. Such a blessing!

I have come to dread snow. I am cautious about going out in it, and to drive in it. I live where it snows! I am asking when did this happen to me? The answer has come that the only thing that has changed is my thought about snow. I am completely able to navigate as well as I ever did. But I am allowing myself to follow the pattern laid out for us by mortal mind thinking--at a certain time of our earthly experience we begin to be cautious about many things (IE fear them) Literally the only thing that has changed is my acceptance of a pattern that I need not accept. As the lift says, man has dominion over the weather. And I don't see that it says that there is any time limit on this dominion. Thanks, John, for this timely lift.

Thank-you John, for your deep heartfelt prayer/message and timely reminder of our daily responsibility to pray for our worldwide family re "Weather disasters". Years ago while jogging, I had a "We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse." (S&H124:26) experience --- the ground beneath my feet literally/actually gave way for a moment, as I was running on the track. Through the years, as I've reflected on that experience, I've gradually come to realize and accept that the following truths from Science & Health by Mary Baker Eddy are indeed true! "Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things. We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and classification." (S&H124:25). Relying on this sure/potent foundation of Christly truth(s), I/we can humbly expect our daily prayers about weather disasters to have a powerful, intelligent, tender and (YES!), preventative effect for our worldwide human family. Mother God gives us dominion over all tragedies.

Yes, we experienced God's guiding presence during the destruction of our ground floor, as Sandy swept through New Jersey. During evacuation, as we saw the images of our barrier wall crumbling, I prayed for those remaining, felt the presence of being at-home with God, and determined that we would focus thought on using the opportunity to upgrade our home for better resale value. Though moving from place to place that first month, we were beautifully provided for. In deep prayer for direction, at one point during the chaos of salvaging goods, the answer came that we'd been uprooted not to be placed in the same soil, but to be transplanted in a new environment - and finding that is our current activity. It is so comforting to know that God, the infinite Mind, guides us each moment. Others supporting prayers have been felt. Thank you.

It's always heartwarming to hear of the kindness of people in the aftermath of a storm: Neighborhoods pull together, workers drive many miles to be of assistance, and other helpers stand outdoors for hours to serve meals and distribute supplies.

But we can show that radical, tender affection WITHOUT first going through a storm. We can pull together in many ways right now, from ensuring fair pay for all workers to supporting children's classrooms to considerate driving. God loves us. We love each other.

Good morning to the Daily Lift family. I am proud to be a part of this family and always nurtured and inspired by the lift and the intelligent comments shared with us all. Bev, in answer to your plea...always take care of yourself first and foremost. You must be grounded in love and the highest care and then from that you can give to others without diminishing your own resources. A recent Lift gave the example of being in an airplane and being instructed to put on your own oxygen mask first and then help the person next to you. That is a concrete example of why we must always secure our own needs first...to be capable to help others. It is something that we all are learning....it is easy and natural to give to others and somehow seems less natural to give to ourselves. This is not a selfish giving-it is a necessary giving. I hope this is helpful. It is somehting I am working on too. This is a wonderful lift and brought many helpful and fine comments. Thank you one and all. With love and gratitude for this life at this time of so many changes in our dear world. I learn so much from this Daily Lift format. It helps me to keep alive my spiritual training.

Did you ever think that the weather, good or bad, is a direct symbol of thought? A rousing YES is the answer. As it written in the 1st chapter of Genises, man has dominion over the face of the sea, and the sky. Therefore good thoughts produce good weather while bad thoughts is reflected in bad weather conditions. So all one has to do is put in practice what is revealed to him/her through the study of C/S and bad weather won't have any effect wherever his/hers thought is channeled.

Hi John, thanks for this Lift. During the storm here in NJ, I prayed like this: God is everywhere and is everything, but He is not in the wind or rain, nor in the hurricane. Since that's so, those elements have to be nothing, if God is not in them!

Thank you, John, for “Weather disasters: A prayerful response … spiritual man’s indestructibility … ‘God is everywhere and nothing apart from Him is present or has power…’ … a firm understanding of this, heals.” I’m inspired, accordingly: Because God is the one-and-only Creator and Preserver of us and of all creation, we have a strong foundation from which to challenge every report of disaster-threatening weather. At a party last night, a dear friend and I discussed our Christmas travel plans. Although we’re heading in opposite directions, we really have the same destination: Happy times with loved ones! She mentioned weather as a concern. And then this morning’s Lift! For me? A call to dig deeper about weather! I’ve realized that I don’t but should, include the weather in my daily prayers. After all, weather is a context in which we “…live, and move, and have our being…” and it needs to be firmly established in consciousness that it’s “… in him …” and that “we are also his offspring” (Acts 17:28). Digging deeper, I looked up “weather” on my pc thesaurus. As a noun, weather is “conditions.” As a verb, weather is defined as (get this!) “endure” as well as “erode.” Joining these definitions together with “spiritual man’s indestructibility,” what comes to thought is: No matter what the conditions, nothing can erode our connection with God/Good because everything Godlike and good endures as proof of spiritual man’s indestructibility, which is the only Truth of being.

Such a loving response to the imposition of suffering that so many of our brothers and sisters struggle with these days of weather extremes. Thank you for your understanding that "a firm understanding" of God’s law of love heals. It inspires me to go more deeply in my own prayers.

This theme of kindness and compassion in dealing with weather disasters is so very important. Thank you John for pointing out this essential response to these kind of disasters.
It brings to mind a phrase from Science and Health, "The atmosphere of the earth, kinder than the atmosphere of mortal mind,...." (pg. 219) indicates that the real cause of disasters is the UNKINDNESS of mortal mind - the fears, hatreds, deceptions of a belief of life in matter which actually create the conditions which would result in disasters, and then infect the bureaucracy of those agencies trying to respond and help.
How important for those aware of the source of these disasters (a false mentality), to turn to and trust in the truth of being, the reality and supremacy of divine Love. The results will be timely responses and effective help, if not outright prevention.

Praying for a sign all evening and into the morning. Just received it with this lift. Asking for guidance and here it is in the DL. Gratitude and being grateful for this seems a bit of an understatement. This religion is my life, and has always been the soft spot - always there - always will be. Thank you.

Many thanks ho Nina, #34 for pointing out that there is no limit to our dominion. Certainly there is no time limit on our being the reflection of God. I don't have concerns about snow (the only time I see it is when I look up at the local mountains where it is lovely!)) but I have found myself having concerns over the process of "maturing". The thought that I am protected by God's loving arms today as much as I was when I was a child has been very comforting.

I was delighted to be reminded by Kay #19 that "In atmosphere of love divine we live and move and breathe". There is certainly no limit for demonstrating that Truth.

I am amazed that I got through much of my life without the Daily Lift and can't begin to say how grateful I am for the DL and all the people who make it possible and for all the wonderful truths that are expressed along with each Lift.

For me, I try to remember that there is no power but God. Wrong thoughts are nothing. Evil is nothing. Even mistakes are nothing. An article I read today by Geoffery Barratt called 'Better Communications' [jsh-online or Bound Volumes Journal Feb 1974]] spoke loudly to me that as we better communicate with the Christ, in that communication we will see what God sees...Her perfect children forever embraced in divine Love. As Mrs.Eddy states in her book Science and Health on page 476, "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals."
How grateful I am for all the sharing and uplifting thoughts....there is 'none else'.
