Quiet, calm, stillness, is what allows our thought to unite with the one eternal God, good. Mary Baker Eddy says in S&H page 506,"The calm and exalted thought or spiritual apprehension is at peace. Thus the dawn of ideas goes on, forming each successive stage of progress."

To see the water so still reminds me of once being told that when you look at your reflection on the water, it's perfect when perfectly still put it deforms itself when a little wind move the waters surface. So are we as God's perfect reflection, when we are still in the Truth, we can feel our perfect reflection. So don't let the winds of human lies try to tell us it's not true! We are and always have been God's perfect image and reflection

I shall ponder that Psalm a lot more. One thing that kept coming to me is that we are FIRST with God (Alpha) because if we are still with God, then it means that no matter what happens or has happened, God is/has always been there and we are "still" with him.

I thought more about the word "still" and one of my favourite Hymns "Still, still with Thee" (Hymn 317) especially the first line of the second verse which reads

"Alone with Thee, amid the changing shadows"

As I write this, I am thinking more about the word "still" - not just another way of saying I continue to be with you; but also quiet, peace. I just looked it up and in Dictionary.com and it says...

:..hushed...still small voice...free from turbulence or commotion; peaceful; tranquil; calm"

Listening to that still small voice therefore allows us to be free from turbulence or commotion and as we continue to walk with God, there is peace.

There are so many situations I can apply this to. I shall really reread that Psalm with my dictionary and other bible resources. You have have helped me to unlock so much in just a few short minutes. It is amazing how Truth and goodness have a way of multiplying and bringing healing

I thought I had missed seeing the sunrise this morning but I didn't. It was/is here, in the Daily Lift.

what a beautiful thought Elise, that we can be still with God, that we can still all the erroneous clamoring of mortal mind which might try to throw us off balance, as it were. Thank you so much for your inspired and calming thought. It was definitely what I needed this morning. I had a meeting to which I had not looked forward first thing this morning. Having read the Lesson and established in my thought that God was in complete control, everything went fine. Then this lovely Lift arrived as if to underline the truth of what I been praying with. Thank you so much, Elise. I have some friends from UK here with me, and this morning we took a helicopter ride around this part of the Sunshine Coast. I had prayed, of course, and the pilot remarked that the morning was perfect for flying. It was so beautiful to see the immensity of the ocean, calm and still in the balmy early morning air. Board riders were sitting patiently waiting for some decent waves, but it was just a lovely calm morning. Most of these beaches along the coast are comparatively new with clusters of houses grouped in shell shapes, all interlocking with each other. This was a time to pause and reflect on God's blessings for all.

Wow - I just love this "new" way to think about that verse and it was just what I needed this morning! Thank you, Elise.

I can go deeper into this by having a pure quietness, a meditation that sits in a pool of quiet reflection of myself alone with God. This lift is a sweet reminder of the gentle place ever available to us as we go to that quiet place within....to go into the closet and shut the door for spiritual refreshment and daily nourishment that is so necessary to greeting the world in peace and readiness for all that may come. Your additional sense of “still” makes a favorite hymn special also. Hymn 136.

"I love Thy way of freedom, Lord, … I hear Thy promise old and new, That bids all fear to cease: My presence still shall go with thee And I will give thee peace.…For still Thy presence is with me, And Thou dost give me peace."

I am not sure whether this dual meaning for “still” works in other languages, but I know that divine Mind includes lots of delivery systems! The idea which inspires may appear in the language at hand (thank goodness). But, the inspired idea lifts us beyond words.

There should be no fear of losing this established peace because God's peace is continuously with us because God is ever with us, helping us stay awake to this holy fact.

I love Psalm 139. It explains the complete protection of God over his creation, Man included, we should never forget that. When ever problems or troubles occur, God is there with answers how to deal with it with successful results. This recognition plugs us into God's thoughts for us.

I have had that same thought...of stillness with God - that is unchanging - no matter the
circumstances from the previous day or the day ahead. I can have that God-given peace
and assurance of inseparability from Soul, God.

Thank you. It's a powerful way to start the day. I think of this in hymn 148, " In Heavenly Love abiding". Where it says, "The storm may roar without me", I insist it cannot be "within me", because I am "still with Thee".

Thank you for the pointing out this great verse. The thought about awadining and being still with God, could alspo point out the ever-presence of God whetherr we are feeling deep into human consciousness, or awakening to the Truth of Being.

I've been praying about the use of Bible translations, and here comes this lovely inspiration that would've been missed using other than the KJV. Although I use others than the KJV when I "get stuck" on a passage, beginning with the KJV remains my starting point. Lovely, lovely, Elise. Thank you!

Thank you for this awakening. This morning I was thinking of just getting over Halloween and Thanksgiving, and thinking ahead and worrying over the cost of coming birthdays and Christmas. Your lift caused me to stop, be still and remember that God, Good will govern and guide me along the way.

Oh, my goodness! How beautiful and perfect the message and video today. I was very anxious and disturbed about a financial matter this morning. While waiting for a return call, I was led to listen to the Dalily Lift and read some of the comments which I ended up reading all 90, (and listening to the message and the video again!) before the phone rang. Yes, it was the call I was awaiting and of course came with good news. I was soooo very grateful for the peace that calmed my disturbed thought during that anxious time. A wave of gratitude came over me yesterday for the solid foundation and place of the King James Bible has in supporting our church and each of us individually. This feeling came as both readers in our church stood for the closing readings. (In our church the Second Reader reads the citation from I John 3:1-3), and the First Reader read a Benediction from the Bible, both readers standing with a Bible in their hands.
Now this morning this familiar citation from the Bible, expressed in the Daily Lift opening up new views of its meaning, strengthening us and being shared with the world, stilling storms. Thanks to Elise and the photographer, and all those supporting this idea.

Wow, I love that insight. I had not read it that way, but oh boy, is it ever a precious truth that stillness comes with awareness of being with God and God being with us. Thanks for a new and beautiful view of that verse.

My sweat-shirt says, "Keep Calm and Grab Mane." [You can hold a horse's mane without hurting him.] But Mrs. Eddy, in the section of "Retrospection and Introspection" called "The Great Revelation" says, "Christian Science saith to the wave and storm, 'Be still,' and there is a great calm. Material sense asks, in its ignorance of Science, 'When will the the raging of the material elements cease?' Science saith to all manner of disease, 'Know that God is all-power and all-presence, and there is nothing beside Him;' and the sick are healed." The video is splendid, too. I remember taking the Canadian Pacific Railroad across Canada to visit my grandparents when I was small, and it is a three day trip, from Montreal to Vancouver, B.C. I remember going to sleep and waking up while the train was en route through the Canadian Rockies.

Thanks Elise! Like other lifters Hymn 317 is one of my favourites, and that fits so well with your Lift and the images you show. How reassuring is the last line of the first verse of that hymn - the dawning of "the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee". This hymn is just the perfect trans-Atlantic combination of Harriet Beecher Stowe's words and John Dykes music with its beautiful harmonies, just one of 184 hymns composed by him.

This hightlights the magic of media in bringing words from the mouth to be felt in the heart.

Thank you for this gentle message and reminder... I am going to read this psalm with a new view of what it means to be 'still'....

Beautiful! You can see in the video that, as Anne #6 pointed out, the slightest lack of stillness, whether breeze or water current, mars the reflection, even if only slightly - but perfect stillness shows the perfect reflection. There's a lesson for me to hang onto! I think David must have experienced that stillness with God when he was in the den of lions.

In addition to the beautiful words and musical setting of Hymn 317 (which our church organist, bless his heart, never fails to play with a tender, peaceful quietness), another hymn occurred to me: Hymn 85, with the words (by Edith Gaddis Brewer) "Wnere the floods of trouble flow, Find Thy perfect, calm reflection." And of course the beloved Psalm 23: "He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul."

Coming to this Lift a day later, but well worth the wait. Thank you Elise, for the beautiful message; Zina, for the perfectly complementary video; Nate and BoL, for all the Daily Lift podcasts.

Strong's definition of "grace" says, "The divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life." This Daily Lift has been a moment of grace in my heart - time now to go out and reflect it in my life!
