11/22: A moment for prayer and thanks

11/22: A moment for prayer and thanks

  1. Thank you John your Lift was a prayer in itself for this Thanksgiving Day! Being a Christian Scientist is a call to duty; to not only pray for ourselves each day but for the world. Christian Science has never been needed more than it is today. And we know that when we turn to God wholeheartedly that each and every day will be "big with blessings."

  2. With others or in our own quietude...thank you for the thoughts expressed in this lift.

  3. This one was especially for me

  4. Thank you John. This is surely a time to open our hearts to all our neighbours worldwide and give thanks for divine Love's unfailing care for all His children.

  5. Beautiful John! I will take that moment!

  6. God's love is stronger than a hurricane or a war. God's love can be felt here and now in just the way we need it. Thank you God! And thank you, John, for being such a clear transparency.

  7. What a beautiful reminder of God's infinite love that is embracing each one of us today!!

  8. Beautiful, dear John, as always, and always given with such tender love. Thank you. This idea of Thanksgiving is really what we're about, isn't it? Our thanks to God for the good of God we recognize, have, and see around us, leading us to be able to fulfill what I also so love Mrs. Eddy saying in My 165:19 "Goodness never fails to receive its reward, for goodness makes life a blessing. As an active portion of one stupendous whole, goodness identifies man with universal good. Thus may each member of this church rise above the oft-repeated inquiry, What am I? to the scientific response: I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing."

  9. John. What a powerful message for all mankind. As we celebrate our day of Thanksgiving in other countries, we pray, as daily, to uplift, support and heal. Our evening services today and on other days arranged by each branch church, make us realise the blessings we have always had and always will have.
Thank you for your wonderful contribution.

  10. Thank you John.........

  11. Thank you.

  12. Happy Thanksgiving 2012!

Not everyone may be too happy in times of turmoil, political instability, or natural disasters.
Mrs, Eddy's compassion took her to wish that all of us would lift the veil of sorrow in each home. Misc.275:7
To those in mourning, I would like to say, if you are spared it might mean that you still have "some daily good to do to Thine for Thee" CS Hymn 253.
In this day of thanksgiving let's carry the torch another stretch; and let's pray that our Father's great goodness, light and love is being realized by all.

  13. Thank you, John, for focusing our thanksgiving prayers today.

  14. Many thanks John for this great reminder on Thanksgiving Day. Yes. "We all need to express more compassion and prayer" with unbounded Love. "Now will we raise/ Songs of thanksgiving and praise,/ Christ is become our salvation." (Christian Science Hymnal #283).

  15. Thank you for sharing this profound affirmation of the Love of God.

  16. Thank you, dear John for the benediction you gave to the whole world with your Lift. Yes, also in Germany we celebrate Thanksgiving in our today`s special testimony meetings with the Thanksgiving Bible Lesson given us from our Mother Church; and we will tune in thanking God for every Good we received and praying for the world.

  17. On this day of Thanksgiving, I am most grateful for all the little things that have proved to me how much God loves me. For it is the overcoming of daily challenges, replaced by harmony in my life, that assures me that all my needs are truly met when trust in God's everpresent goodness is acknowledged.Thank you John for a really wonderful Thanksgiving Lift! Happy Thanksgiving Day to all Lifters for "this is the day the Lord hath made; Be glad, give thanks, rejoice; !! Hymn 342. C.S. Hymnal

  18. An uplifting Thanksgiving message ,and powerful reminder of the true meaning of this day . Thank you John ,as usual you inspire.

  19. Another great lift
    Thanks

  20. Dear John, Thank you,and a joyous "Thanksgiving day to you, today and everyday.Growing up in the most rural parts of South Africa,I never knew anything about God=Love, but one thing I felt was an inner sense of joy,a "Feeling". My parents were Dairy farmers, and shared freely of the excess of the dairy products with the underprivileged neighbours.Because we were a large family, the older sieblings assisted our parents with the work on the farm. One of my early morning chores was to fill the billy-cans(tin cans) the young children's containers with the excess milk,as they filed passed the drums of fresh milk. The joy I felt looking into these children's faces, and their smiles of gratitude is inexplicable, it was reciprocal. I cannot put into words my joy when years later, reading Science and Health I realized, one of the fruits of the Spirit is love,joy-------------, This has filled my life with "Gratitude" in all things, all ways,as I continue serving Love,in the healing ministry, with joy and Gratitude! Thank you again John, and all who contribute to the blessing of our Daily Lift.

  21. Happy happy happy Thanksgiving to all who have commented, and to all who will comment, happy happy Thanksgiving to the entire DL Community, love to every one, today and every day...God manifesting Himself IS abundance, and He manifests with great joy and thanksgiving His life, so that "we might have it more abundantly.."

  22. Thank you. I took this as a prayer and prayed with you. thank you also to no.17. Oh how I need to trust in God' now, in everlasting goodness.

  23. ¡Qué bello Día!
    Día… de las gracias Dar
    ¡ GRATITUD¡
    Sublime palabra
    que inspira bondad
    cuando con amor
    a Dios agradecemos
    por Su infinita bondad.
    ¡ALELUYA!

  24. Harvest time is here. We are called, each one. "Come, labor on:
Who dares stand idle on the harvest plain?
Where all around him waves the golden grain,
And to each servant does the Master say,
Go work today." Hymn 41. C.S. Hymnal

We are not without work to do. Nor without either food or the comfort of shelter. Our labor is the prayer of thanksgiving. Our employer is God, good, Love. Pepare the soil of thought. Sew the good seed. Reap. The harvest awaits us!

Thank you John for setting today's table to feast upon.

  25. Thank you for this great Lift. Hymn 374 is a great one for today. " We thank thee and we bless thee, O Father of us all, that e'en before we ask Thee Thou hear'st Thy children's call."

  26. Thank you, John for the wonderful message. Just when I was grumbling about my own insignificant problems you brought back the Light that shines on Truth. I give thanks to God for all his blessings.

  27. Thanks God to have a Thanksgiving day! So today and everyday we can recognize that all blesses come from God!

  28. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story of joyful giving, #20. Gratitude in those circumstances must have been very meaningful. Good on you! Happy thanksgiving.

  29. Thank you for this healing Lift and reminder - and my abiding love and gratitude to God and prayers for all ...

  30. Thank you, John. Indeed, may the Father's great blessings benefit all!

  31. Thank you dear one...Your reading of the quote from Mrs Eddy brought me to tears. We all need a sense of peace and comfort. Thanks-giving is truly a very special time for us all. Blessing and love to all God's perfect children today and everyday.

  32. Thank You God for this outpouring of Love in John"s message

  33. I am shedding tears after hearing the words of M B Eddy. What a heart of love she expressed.

How grateful I am for Life! My prayers go out to all those who need the touch of the Comforter.

    Thank you for sharing this.

  34. I wish you each and everyone abundant blessings this Thanksgiving and express my deepest gratitude for these Daily Lifts and for all of the comments. God bless you all!!!

  35. Reading these inspired comments is, in and of itself inspirational.

  36. Thank you, John, for giving us a prayer for the world's hungering heart. May each one of us embrace the Ten Commandments in expressing gratitude for all that is good, all that's true, all that is spiritually real. With much love to the Lecture Committee and all those who bring us the daily spiritual message.

  37. John: When I read the President's Proclamation mentioning the military folks who are so far from home today, I thought of their families with empty seats at their tables. And here you are, defending everyone's right to be blest. Our shoulders unite with your prayer, Lois

  38. Thank you John, for this gentle and compassionate Lift. In Australia we look forward to Christmas to spend time with families and friends. We have fake snow on our windows and plastic Christmas trees, but the feeling and expressions of lovingkindness are sincere and from the heart. Some homes have Santa and his sleigh and reindeers on their roof tops, with recorded music and sitting on deck chairs on their front lawn, but tenderness and genuine love tempers our heartfelt greetings since there are people in the street who have sons and grandsons still in active service to maintain peace between nations.
Thank you Nate and the team; the BoL and lecturers; and our Daily Lift family spread far and wide, but together in spirit.

  39. Thank you. That is a wonderful prayer at the end of this heartfelt lift. Good counsel. Happy Thanksgiving.

  40. Dear John. Thank you for your wonderful prayer. Indeed I am taking quiet moments today to pray that our heavenly Father's great goodness is benefiting and being realized by all, noone excepted. I am particularly greatful this day to have received the Father's revelation, guidance and direction and thus being re-directed to live a life harmonious as it has always been meant to be. Blessings to you, that darling little girl heard at the end of your message and the whole Daily Lift Team.

  41. Great service to those in need which, by my experience, means everyone.

    Many great thanks.

  42. Well chosen words.
    Happy Thanksgiving to all everywhere!

  43. Thank you for this wonderful words, and I join all the prayers of gratitude on Thanksgiving Day.

  44. John, such a moving lift that touched all of our hearts with gratitude. What a wonderful holiday Thanksgiving is for us, a day of dedicated thanks. There is no greater blessing than the fact God made is in his image. Our native state is to reflect God who is infinite Love, Truth, Life. His goodness is everlasting and knows no boundaries..Acts 17:28 "For in him we live and move and have our being." When you even get an inkling of what that means...how can you not burst with gratitude! Bless all of you and thank you so much for sharing your kind thoughts and heartfelt insights. This Daily Lift is such a blessing!! Happy Thanksgiving!

  45. Beautiful and powerful - thank you!

  46. Thanks you for your loving and inspiring message. It will touch the heart and give courage to so many.

  47. II am so grateful for this, and all of the Daily lifts we receive. What a wonderful awakening each day to hear and ponder the Truths we are so privileged to receive. My heart sings with joy when I am uplifted by these messages. Thank You.

  48. A "harvesting of all that we are grateful for", a gathering of blessings. Thank you John for this humbling thought. I have often pondered Mrs Eddy's reasoning for this line in her poem "Feed My Sheep", "Shepherd show me how to go o're the hillside steep. How to gather, how to sow, how to feed thy sheep" Why did she put gathering before sowing? We must harvest our gratitude before we sow, before our day is set into motion. What better way to start the day and ensure a rich harvest even before we know what that harvest will consist of. And today, Thanksgiving Day, people worldwide are gathering together in gratitude and planting seeds of love. This healing love will encompass, embrace and encourage all in need today. From Pulpit and Press, "Divine Presence, breathe Thou Thy blessing on every heart in this house." Worldwide!

  49. Thank you.

  50. "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." Shakespeare. And this is also the 2nd quote at the beginning of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. "In everything give thanks." St. Paul in the Bible. Let's rejoice and accept everything today as God's way of bringing us full salvation. Amen! Happy Thanksgiving to All!

  51. Hymn 314 had been running through my head this morning, the 3rd verse of which summarizes a great truth about gratitude:

    The harvest now is white;
    Lift up thine eyes, behold,
    Illumed by Love's transforming light,
    God's blessings manifold.

Having just listened to the Nov. 13th audio chat at JSH-online titled "You are not alone", the keynote I came away with was "how can I be a blessing?" The myriad ways in which that can happen are expressed in this Lift and the responses to it in the comments.

    Thank you.

  52. Thank you John. Thank you to the whole BOL team, and Thank you to the Lifter family. My cup runneth over with love for everyone on this, to me, a very special day of remembrance for all the good in the past, the NOW, what is to come. This past week has been one of great joy and feeling God's love surrounding me and everyone, and so shall it continue.

  53. Thank you John for this heartfelt lift. I am so grateful to be a part of this wonderful community reaching out, embracing the whole world..."The way to extract error from mortal mind is to pour in truth through flood-tides of Love." (S&H 201:17) and that's what these daily lifts are doing RIGHT NOW!...opening the way.

  54. MAY THIS SEASON OF GRATITUDE BE MEASURED IN THE GOOD DEEDS AND MANY BLESSINGS THAT GOD SURROUNDS US WITH EVERYDAY.

  55. Thank you John Thanks to Mary B Eddy for her dedication and Love andhow blessed we are.

  56. Amen and Amen!

  57. "All things work together to them that love God." If we would all understand the above, man would not have to go through these tough experiences. The more grateful our understanding of God, the more we are helping the whole world realize the harmony of God's Kingdom. The more we sympathize with these errors, the more we add to them, which is doing no one any good.

  58. Thank you John for your inspired words! I also agree with #1 when he says that being a Christian Scientist is a call to duty, to pray for the world, because Christian Science has never been needed more than it is today! So, as Mrs Eddy writes in Misc. 275: 13-19, "May the great Shepherd that "tempers the wind to the shorn lamb," and binds up the wounds of bleeding hearts, just comfort, encourage, and bless all who mourn. Father, we thank Thee that Thy light and Thy love reach earth, open the prison to them that are bound, console the innocent, and throw wide the gates of heaven." Thank you to all the Lifters for their comments and prayings!
    Happy Thanksgiving Day!
    Lots of Love

  59. Thank you for this Lift and beautifully read prayer from Mrs. Eddy, John. It was a passage I needed to hear and think about. I am more grateful than I can express for these Daily Lifts and their healing, fortifying presence in my life and the world. I love praying with this Lift community and communing with you all every day. Yes, even on weekends I often re-listen and read the additional comments that have come in, or follow up on links people share or watch the lecture videos - it's such a wealth of support and inspiration. I consider the Lift a tremendous blessing and I am deeply grateful for it. Blessed Thanksgiving to all, Tracy

  60. It used to be that the US was known as the "Breadbasket of the World"-but Mother Nature seems to have cut back our country's ability-at least right now-to share with those who have come to count on our aid to get them through tough times. But we can always put the problem in God's hands-and He will show us the way-through daily prayers, for example, to help us get right with God and then partake of His blessings. Have a great Thanksgiving Day-here in NC its a beautiful sunny day-perfect to take that minute and remember our many blessings individually and as a country. Thanks John

  61. Simply Thank you

  62. Thank you for that eloquent and heartfelt prayer of thanksgiving that included words by Mary Baker Eddy, who was mindful of those most in need.

  63. Thank you, John, for a beautiful prayer to start the day of Thankgiving. When I first awake, I can't wait to read the Daily Lift. I am so grateful for all the Lifts and for all those that comment after. You all bring us together. The world doesnt seem so big afterall. I feel, I take a trip around the world and back. And no matter where we are, God is there. How beautiful, John, that you reminded us that God's Love and Light reach Earth. Happy Thanksgiving and God's Blessings to all.

  64. Thank you! for that WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING message. IT is such a BLESSING!

  65. John, thank you for including that text from our Leader. To me, it's a reminder that with the truths that are dear to our hearts and we love to share MBE expected us to be conscious of the human need divine Love meets.

  66. Gracias John por este hermoso mensaje!. A todos feliz día! por el gran Amor de Dios para con cada uno de sus hijos y estar unidos a través de estos mensajes que llenan cada día de alegría y esperanza nuestros días.

  67. Thank you for this tender, poignant message today. It made me grateful for all the good in my life and more tenderhearted for those experiencing severe challenges. (I wanted to weep for them as well as pray about these hardships.)

  68. Thank you for the very timely reminder that Omnipresense is the substance and the wholeness of everything, regardless of appearances. A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and to all the dl staff

  69. Thank you John for this wonderful lift and for reading to us the most deep message of Love.

"Love is the Liberator" - as Mrs. Eddy also says.

  70. Thank you for the lovely, comforting thoughts today, blessing all.

  71. Thank you John. We are thankful for everything. "As one whom his mother comforters, so will I comfort you."
    Isaiah 66:13

    Steve

  72. Thank you for giving us this special grateful thoughts for this day. It is harvest and not will be. Greetings from Hamburg to NY Dorette

  73. Thank you so much John for this beautiufl message. Happy Thanksgiving!

  74. Oh Thank you, John, and each commenter.

There could be a claim of dislocation at this time...someone missing...distances to travel...but "none can beyond His omnipresence stray." God is everywhere, right NOW...just as powerful in Beirut and Gaza and Goma as in anyone's home.

The Daily LIft appeared on my gratitude list early this morning! It has brought me "home" (to Christly thinking/consciousness) more than once.

  75. Thank you,John, for reminding us to embrace "all" in our thoughts and prayers as we gather to give thanks. We are, also, most thankful this day for ALL the dedicated workers in the cause of Christrian Science.

  76. OOOOOOh a Lift of such gratitude to God and His goodness. It is a humble, heartfelt prayer!! (Frankly, one that can be prayed every day!!)

Thank you dearly for this wonderful gift!!

  77. Thank you.

  78. Thank you for uplifting my spirits. Just visited a relative in the hospital who is challenged with dire predictions. I know that your prayer is reaching the hearts of all.

  79. Thanks John for this wonderful lift. As I write a note to a prisoner today, I will share the letter and hopefullly something of the spirit of the quotation from Mary Baker Eddy that so compassionately speaks to this woman's circumstance and need.

  80. Thank you for reminding me to be EVER grateful for all the blessings that have come my way throughout my long life especially to the one who introduced me first to the Bible and then to Christian Science. LOVE TO ALL.

  81. Thank you for your such John for your beautiful prayerful thoughts for the world.
Last night our Thanks Giving Sevice included the very beautiful hymn The King of Love my shepherd is.
The third verse meant so much to me -
"Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
But yet in love He sort me,
And on His shoulder gently laid,
    And home rejoicing brought me."
I feel that was my story and I realize it's most of the worlds story too.
If Divine Love "sort me and brought me home, I am certain that applies to every person that exists too, so I feel completely satisfied that every person is in good hands and is having their need only need met, there need for divine Love, right now, by this ONE all inclusive shepherding Love who is carrying each one home.

  82. Thank you, John!

  83. Thanks, and a wonderful day of thanks to all.

  84. Thank you John. A beautiful message. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  85. A lovely prayer for Thanksgiving day associated with bounty, family and friends. Thank you for the reverent and thoughtful comtemplation.

  86. Thanks, John - this is a 'keeper'!

  87. What a Joy it is to be re-connected to the "Daily Lifts", after a spell away "across the ditch," (Australia). I enjoyed your message John, thank you. Every time I practice Yoga, I lay down and relax and pray. I give thanks for every thing I can think of! Wouldn't it be neat if more folk did it regularily!

  88. Bonjour John

Thank you SOOOOO MUCCCHHHH for this absolutly GREAT UNLIFTING DAILY LIFT!

  89. Dear John,
this is the most wonderful and touching lift for Thanksgiving that I have heard. It really touches the deep needs of humanity. And it encourages us to look beyond our own soop bowl and pray for the needs of our neighbours near and far.
Thank you for your loving reminder, dear John !

  90. Beautiful... thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!

  91. Thank you, John, for “A moment for prayer and thanks … ‘Father, we thank Thee’ …” It’s wonderful to set aside a day of Thanksgiving for a nation/nations to come together to give thanks. And yet, most wonderful of all is that we can give thanks every moment. We, “citizens of the world,” don’t have to wait for any particular day or chosen group of people or favorite menu items. I’ve found that whenever I pray with sincere gratitude, my prayer is most often “answered” with how I might prove my gratitude in practical ways. And the greatest prayers of gratitude, for me, have been offered when there seems that I have had no apparent reason to be grateful. It seems miraculous at those times, how one little tiny blessing at a time peeks into a consciousness willing to at least try to be grateful, until there are blessings abounding and a consciousness having no room for anything but blessings. Gratitude can pull down many strongholds. Any stronghold.

  92. Thank you John for your prayer of Thanksgiving.

  93. Thank you so much John, for the great lift.

  94. I'm grateful for Life, Truth, and Love--with the capitol letters that mean God. I'm grateful that there is one God, and that She is good, and is all powerful goodness and love and health--to me, to each person, everyday, all day, always. I'm grateful to see better each day our connectedness, through the matrix of the eternal, to each other, to the whole of humanity--through God. This steadies me, us, all who listen--and gives us our "daily bread." (Lord's Prayer) I'm grateful for the Daily Lift, the Lifters, the DL team, the lecturers--all who give of their "hearts rich overflow." (CS hymnal #139). With appreciation, and with willingness to implement these truths.

  95. Just what I needed. Thank you.

  96. Gratitude was obviously an important part of Mrs. Eddy's understand of our relationship to God. I'm grateful that we have an opportunity weekly to express our Thanksgiving to God at our Wednesday Evening Meetings.

  97. Thanks John! Speaking of hurricane Sandy, we have a dear friend to our Christian Science Reading Room who moved to the Bronx a year or so ago. He's kept in touch. A week or so ago, he came to visit the Reading Room with his story of the hurricane and how it affected the neighborhood where he grew up and where his mother still lived. It turned out that our friend was able to save his mother from the flooding by listening to God and following the right steps. He bailed out the house enough to be able to reach his mother and get her to safety. Our supportive prayers in the Reading Room continue to go out to bless his neighborhood and everyone in the area. God's love blankets them with goodness.
