When we feel sorry for ourselves, we must remember to count our blessings –start by remembering Genesis 1:26, 27, God has chosen us to be His/Her own image and likeness.
Our cup “runneth over” Psalm 23
And all those tough times we went through?
Big lessons. He has given us His own son to guide us!
"Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love" S&H 410:14
When we begin to be grateful we begin to receive.

Thank you Chet for this enlightening Lift. As our human lives become more demanding on our time and energies this is our opportunity to individually prove Gods allness and his care for us in not simply meeting those needs, but glorifying God in a way that blesses us and those with whom we come into contact. Mary Baker Eddy says, "Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind,.." As we look to the spiritual to meet our human needs we find an endless source of supply. In Miscellaneous Writings page 307 Mrs. Eddy says,"it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment."

Many thanks Chet for this great lift. Yes. "A river of infinite Love that runs over and over." Like the leaves falling in my back yard right now. I've just gathered over sixty tall bags full, and they still keep falling." "Our God is Love, unchanging Love,/ And can we ask for more?/ Our prayer for Love's increase is vain;/ 'Twas infinite before." (Christian Science Hymnal #269).

We should rejoice in childlike simplicity and expectation. In Bow New Hampshire, where Mary Baker Eddy was born, there is Profile Falls, on one of the tributaries of the mighty Merrimac River. In the summer, this was one of our childhood destinations, when we were old enough to explore away from home with our friends. You can stand underneath the Falls with your back to the rock and let it pass in front of you and feel the natural air conditioning on a blistering hot summer day. Or you can jump in the pool of water beneath it and swim. Sometimes we used to put our kayaks in the pool and practice rolling. But that Falls is no different now than it was in the 1800's. It is still giving anyone a cool summer place to swim or drink (water) or play. It can never run out, no matter the global conditions. Spiritual ideas are like that small Falls. Jesus, in Mathew 13 says, "For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance; but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath."
When our expectation is spiritualized we have more than we need humanly. This is what we are more than able to do. One of my friends today drives an original red 1931 Ford Model-A any day he feels like taking it out. He doesn't complain that he needs a new car. He rejoices in what he already has. We should all keep that childlike expectation of good even as we grow in spiritual understanding.

How wonderful, Chet, to think that no one was left out of the overflowing cup of Love! Everyone who was there on the hillside, and everyone since then. I love that verse in I John "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, , , " Not one is missed out, from ". . . before the mountains and fountains and hills and depths. . . " And the cup will never be less than ". . . the river of infinite Love that runs over and over and over. . . "

Thank you Chet for that perfect start to the day. Robert #13 thank you also especially for the statement about expectation. I work with that a lot, the need to have expectation. Elena #1 and Martin #2 thanks to you all as well. So many healing thoughts.
Many years ago when I was without work and actively looking for some, there were many days when the road seemed long, lonely and difficult. I never gave up applying the teachings of Christian Science and if it was one time I placed all of my trust in God, regardless of what people said and did, was that time (and many many others till the point it is all I do now).
A friend called on a particularly low day and she asked "do you feel your glass is half empty or half full?" I immediately replied "I am just grateful to have a glass." I knew that was God speaking because both she and I laughed for a while. I ended the call and found myself sitting with tears of gratitude. I had never thought of just being grateful for the glass.
I then thought of all of the times I would pour myself a glass of water, drink some of it and then after a while give the rest to the plants. I realized that there are times I wanted to have more than I needed so I agree with Chet in that my cup was running over with all I needed.
Did you know that when you fill a glass with water you empty it of air? What that means is that, even though we cannot see it, our glass IS already full.
Thanks to all. Much love.

Good morning everyone and my cup certainly runneth over. As I stepped up into my living room from the bedroom this morning I expressed my gratitude to God for the warmth of now having automatic heat (instead of just a fireplace) and a home to heat when so many are homeless. Then for the kitchen which I was able to update all of the 20 years or more old appliances about 6 years ago. After a separation of about 28 years, my husband and I got back together about 20 years ago, two years after I bought this 40+ years old house. And I expressed my deepest gratitude for all he has done to improve the house and the property. My heart was just overflowing with gratitude when I opened this wonderful Lift. What a great way to start the day. No half full or half empty cups for me! Thanks to all - each and every commenter and those giving us these lifts to bless our day!

Looking for chocolate milk in the cup doesn’t work so well. There is never enough! And, it is gone really fast. As we look to clear, clean spiritual facts, our tastes just change and we find plenty of water in the cup to sustain us… forever. The cup is HUGE!

MC Porto Alegre - Brasil

Thank you, Chet, for “No empty cups … half empty or half full? … God doesn’t ever give us a half-cup of anything … Thank you, God, for a whole new view of the cup you’ve given to me and to everyone …” Recently, I read that “the cup” is always full: one half with liquid and the other half with air. It gave me a “new view.” In Christian Science, I’ve learned to pray without outlining how exactly God is “supposed to” answer my prayer. No limited human view. Instead, a new view, an expectation of infinite possibilities, of all Good unfolding, uninterrupted. I’m so grateful to this church for teaching me to pray with such openness to and trust of God’s guidance and protection. “May this dear little church, nestled so near my heart … be steadfast in Christ, always abounding in love and good works, having unfaltering faith in the prophecies, promises, and proofs of Holy Writ. May this church have one God, one Christ, and that one the God and Saviour whom the Scriptures declare. May it … leave behind those things that are behind, lay down the low laurels of vainglory, and, pressing forward in the onward march of Truth, run in joy, health, holiness, the race set before it, till … it finds the full fruition of its faith, hope, and prayer. An old spiritual says "His love is like a river,
A rushing and a rollin
And runnin through the deep blue sea
Runnin through the mountains
Rushin through the valleys
And everywhere in between."
Sometimes our cup seems too full--of responsibility, but that responsibility lifts in proportion as we let the love come in--like the air in the empty glass.

Purely lovely,Chet.Thank you.
I recall a time when life seemed so hopeless and limited that I could hardly think straight,I happened to take note of a fountain in the center of the mall I was in.I had been near and around that fountain many, many times, but at that moment I suddenly became aware of its sound and activity.
Suddenly I realized God was like that, always pouring out the good, but I had been so full of my heavy thoughts that I was unaware of Him.
Believe me,it was a life-cahnging event.
How grateful I remain for His presence and fullness.

Thank you Chet - this is so perfect! I have been pondering over the last several weeks why does supply seem to always be just enough that I can't get ahead of the work on my desk, the bills to be paid, time with my kids, etc? I started thinking about how the fount is always overflowing in the Bible, the vessels of oil stayed for the widow woman so she and her family had all and more and realized I have to accept and expect that the well is overflowing, or as my teacher put it this weekend, we have super abundance!
I really appreciate your take on this message as well to solidify this idea in my thought and hopefully, circumstance as well!

Material life is demanding, no doubt about that. But you know, God Good helps us in solving these demands, so we shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves in solving them. Our attitude should be; "Thank God for this demand, it will only cause me to go up higher in spiritual understanding." My cup is never empty of challengers to meet, and thank God for Mary Baker Eddy and her discovery of Christian Science to help with these challenges.

Yes, Chet, my cup doth overflow as it always has. Sometimes I haven't always recoginized my abundance though and it takes God's angel thoughts to get me back on track. I had been considering getting another dog but hadn't taken any human steps to do so when an acquaintence I have known for several years found out my dog was gone and asked if I wanted another. His family had found one but already had several and couldn't keep it. So Grizz came to live with me and now both our cups runneth over. God blesses all of us in so many ways.

Jesus "looked up" and shared his overflowing cup of understanding with the multitudes.
Mrs Eddy says in Science and Health, "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it."
and then I am led to read the story of Lazarus and the rich man, who "fared sumptuously every day." Luke 16: 19-31, a great story, a great reminder…Jesus was the richest man to ever trod the globe, and he never hesitated, through the biddings of divine Love, through his earthly mission, to share his riches..
the spirit of God moved him in everything he said and did, "spiritual barrenness" did not debar him "from giving drink to the thirsty." As Mrs Eddy says, "mental penury" chills "faith and understanding," and it does debar us "from giving drink to the thirsty."
I just love exploring these Lifts! thank you Chet, and DL Community..

Thank you, Chet, and to each Daily Lifter who shared a comment. In thinking about the "takeaway" from this lovely lift, I am struck by the overflowing abundance of the Psalmist's cup washing clean any proclivity to "natter" (OED: fret, grumble). Nattering is what makes the glass appear to be half empty, at least in my experience.

I have been praying about the subject of supply for several months now, and my focus has come to the stories of Jesus feeding the five thousand (and more). So your lift today is meaningful to me, and much needed in the world (the U.S. financial cliff, the debt in Greece). Thank you so much Chet.
When Jesus fed the five thousand, he actively involved his disciples: "Give ye them to eat." (Luke 9)
This might seem a perplexing demand when we feel hungry or helpless ourselves, but when we realize
"Our cup runneth over", and that "Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind...." (S&H pg.60), like the disciples, we can take the right steps - through gratitude, order, meekness, generosity, honesty, faith, wisdom - that results in every need being met.

Many thanks, from me, too. I had been thinking, earlier this morning, about the idea of offering a "cup of cold water in Christ's name" and how "[t]hose ready for the blessing you impart will give thanks," from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 570:14-25:
"Millions of unprejudiced minds — simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert — are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ’s name, and never fear the consequences. What if the old dragon should send forth a new flood to drown the Christ-idea? He can neither drown your voice with its roar, nor again sink the world into the deep waters of chaos and old night. In this age the earth will help the woman; the spiritual idea will be understood. Those ready for the blessing you impart will give thanks. The waters will be pacified, and Christ will command the wave."
Today's Lift certainly demonstrates this, and is such a blessing, too.

Thank you so much Chet, for this beautiful lift. It went straight to my heart and completely drove out an old fear which has blocked my thinking for years ,as I had a greater revelation of the Infinite Love who couldn't possibly give us anything but infinite Good.. Jesus said 'and the Truth shall set you free'. This was really true for me today!
Thank you and Bless you Chet.

Hey Chet,
This lift made me pause and think about all the people, myself included, who have often groused about what's missing from our cup. And then your response from Psalms 23 where David points out, "my cup runneth over". So I thought for a moment about this overflow and where it goes. Suddenly I realized God gave David a cup and a half.
Years ago you would go to a soda fountain and order milkshake. They would mix the ingredients in a large metal tumbler, bring it to the table and fill your glass. But back then they always left the tumbler and its extra contents for you as a refill.
You might look at this tumbler as only being partially full instead of realizing it was overflow. When our attention is taken away from the glass, which is already full, and directed to the overflow in the tumbler, it might appear to be lacking something instead of holding "more than we accept" in the first place.
The key is gratitude. If we take our gaze away from our half full cup, looking hard enough with eyes filled with gratitude, we will soon find the source which may just be another cup already filled to the brim that we overlooked. Instead of looking at our cup, let's focus on its contents and where it came from.
And if things start to get a little empty, you can always get a refill by mixing the two glasses together.

So Grateful Chet,
While trying to encourage a friend, who seemed depressed about the current state of our Country, I began to pray earnestly to find comforting words to share.
The easiest way for me to communicate thoughts ,in a condensed
manner, is through poetry. After absorbing your simple and profound LIFT
a Title and 14 line poem "fell" on the page in about 5 minutes.

Re-think and add gratitude for all the above comments. In particular # 121 commented, "a day late", for which I am really really grateful, that when conflicted with feeling someone else arrives late, I say aloud, to them, "Thank you for coming, you are RIGHT on time." This counteracts time's lies about fastening false delays on our thinking. In other words, once we are all present, we can begin the "task" and be filled with gratitude for our cup being full and that we are all focused on good.

Chet this is wonderful, I think this is one of the best ever Lifts!
Maybe it is because it is meeting me right where I think I am, isn't that what the Christ does? Meets us right where we are, and why, because we are the individual, though never separate, expression of Christ brothers and sister in Christ.

so lovely. Yes we do need to just stop and give gratitude for all the wonderful things in our lives, it doesn't take long to see that our 'cups are overflowing' with abundant good.
When I was little and problems arose my dad would come and sit with me by my bed, helping me clear my thinking. The analogy he used, was: if we kept pouring clean water into a bucket of muddy water it would wash away all the impurities and there would be only perfect clean clear water left.
that was what we had to do with our thinking.
thank you for the reminder of those lovely words of wisdom

- 11/13/2012When we feel sorry for ourselves, we must remember to count our blessings –start by remembering Genesis 1:26, 27, God has chosen us to be His/Her own image and likeness.

- 11/13/2012Thank you Chet for this enlightening Lift.

- 11/13/2012Many thanks Chet for this great lift. Yes. "A river of infinite Love that runs over and over." Like the leaves falling in my back yard right now. - 11/13/2012We should rejoice in childlike simplicity and expectation.

- 11/13/2012How wonderful, Chet, to think that no one was left out of the overflowing cup of Love! Everyone who was there on the hillside, and everyone since then. I love that verse in I John "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, , , " Not one is missed out, from ". . . before the mountains and fountains and hills and depths. . . " And the cup will never be less than ". . . the river of infinite Love that runs over and over and over. . . "

- 11/13/2012Thank you Chet for that perfect start to the day.
Much love.

- 11/13/2012Good morning everyone and my cup certainly runneth over. - 11/13/2012Thank you, Chet, for “No empty cups … half empty or half full? - 11/13/2012Thanks, Chet, for this idea of getting "the cup being half empty or half full" out of thinking and of tourning all thoughts to the grand encouraging TRUTH that everybody's cup "runneth over" with goodness, inspiration, healing, humour, joy, gratitude, strength now! Once again, thank you!!

- 11/13/2012Purely lovely,Chet.Thank you.

- 11/13/2012Thank you Chet - this is so perfect!

- 11/13/2012Material life is demanding, no doubt about that.

- 11/13/2012Yes, Chet, my cup doth overflow as it always has.
Thanks Chet and all who bring us these wonderful Lifts that so enrich our lives.

- 11/13/2012Jesus "looked up" and shared his overflowing cup of understanding with the multitudes.

- 11/13/2012Thank you, Chet, and to each Daily Lifter who shared a comment. In thinking about the "takeaway" from this lovely lift, I am struck by the overflowing abundance of the Psalmist's cup washing clean any proclivity to "natter" (OED: fret, grumble). Nattering is what makes the glass appear to be half empty, at least in my experience.

- 11/13/2012I have been praying about the subject of supply for several months now, and my focus has come to the stories of Jesus feeding the five thousand (and more).

- 11/13/2012Many thanks, from me, too.

- 11/13/2012Hey Chet,
This lift made me pause and think about all the people, myself included, who have often groused about what's missing from our cup.

- 11/14/2012Re-think and add gratitude for all the above comments.

- 11/15/2012Chet this is wonderful, I think this is one of the best ever Lifts!
Maybe it is because it is meeting me right where I think I am, isn't that what the Christ does? Meets us right where we are, and why, because we are the individual, though never separate, expression of Christ brothers and sister in Christ.
Thank you!

- 11/15/2012so lovely.
