When we acknowledge that the Christ is at work in our lives, we cant help but to become a "CAN DO immortal." In Christian Science we learn as Mary Baker Eddy says in S&H, With God all things are possible. She goes on to say, "Divinity is always ready. Semper paratus is Truth's motto." This gives us the can do, always ready status we need to demonstrate over whatever would try to limit us. Thank you Evan for this great lift.

Thank you, Evan, for discussing the choice of being a CAN DO immortal. While I was listening to your message, the idea "I am able" occurred to me. After looking this up in Concord, I found it was from Miscellany, 165:20 where we can read "I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing." Yes, we are able to be CAN DO immortals!
Thanks again, Evan.

Thank you, Evan, for “Be a CAN DO Immortal … ‘I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength’…” You bring out the importance and power of how we choose to identify ourselves. I’ve learned that my choice makes all the difference in my quality of life on a daily basis. I love how you put it, too: “CAN’T DO Mortal” or “CAN DO Immortal.” Many years ago, I was the “man” in your Lift. A Christian Science practitioner helped me to claim my God authorized “CAN-DO-ness” by encouraging me first to put in writing that list of what I felt was my “CAN’T-DO-ness.” I was told to name that list, “Material Counterfeit.” Then, on the other side of the page – the CAN DO side, I was encouraged to list what I was learning as the “Spiritual Counterfact” of myself as God’s man. Next, I was told to tear the page in half and throw away the “Material Counterfeit” or “CAN’T DO” list and live according to my “Spiritual Counterfact” or “CAN DO” list. The Bible says that we’re in the image and likeness of God. In the Glossary of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, the definition of “God” includes seven synonyms. It’s been helpful in claiming myself as a “CAN DO Immortal” to practice living the qualities derived from the synonyms; e.g. Love is one synonym with qualities like kindness, gratitude, courtesy, forgiveness, affection, respect, humor, and mercy - I CAN DO. It’s really my choice! How grateful I am for the Christ-strength to prove God’s law of progress. So many blessings!

All the obstacles that appear to be on our way might seem to be real and the obvious evidence of God's absence, but I found that they are only aggressive mental suggestions that there exists a power that could oppose God.
Did God ever wink and missed the error that assails us? impossible, because the Christ is ever active in us.
Christ is the power and presence of God at work in our lives, giving us strength and ability, health and wellness, to be productive and be free of limit.
Christ brings out our immortal individuality, so we can say with Paul, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” Phil. 4:13

Thanks, Evan!
That's a good message to pass on, and I have had some experience of it.
One of my grandsons has always loved drawing. I encouraged this, and he was very good at it from an early age; however, at around five or six years he became self-critical and would get vey upset if he made a mistake, crying "I'm no good. I can't do it!" I would gently tell him, "Hey, we can rub that out and do it again. Never say "can't" - you're not a can't-do Matthew, you're a can-do Matthew!" And he would calm down and finish his drawing. When he was seven he won 2nd prize in a children's competition for the best drawing of a flower! I said to him, NOW you know you're a can-do Matthew!

Thank you, Evan, for the timely reminder of what we can do, when consciousness chooses the 'sunlight of Truth and Love' and turns away from the shadows of gloom-thought. I am so happy with this Lift. This idea had come to me this morning that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" I seemed to whistle through all my jobs.
Love the idea from nela about the can and cant doness lists. I was just writing in my gratitude journal when the phone rang, whilst I was picking it up to answer it I thought I can manage to go to that meeting tonight......and it was my friend asking if I was going, I said yes even though my grand daughter is coming for tea, I'll drop her off home and go on to the meeting.

Thank you so much and thanks to all the comments. I agree with each and every one. I always think in terms of can do immortal when I am faced to challenges in my job that might seem above my capabilities. And it works! When I have a difficult task I think: "well father, you know I do not have the degree I need for this work but if You put me in this job, then I am capable of doing it. Not that I am capable of doing it by myself but because I can do all things through Christ"

Thank you Evan and thanks to ALL the comments. I always try to think in terms of a "can-do-immortal" although to this day I never used that expression. At work, when I am faced with a difficult task, I say to God: "Father, you know that I do not have the academic preparation for this job but if you have put me here, then I will be capable of doing it". And it WORKS!!! And that is because through Christ we can do all things because he strenghtens us as Paul said. I am very very grateful for these DAily Lifts and for the people who work there.

This helps. It helped me to focus what what I can do instead of what I can't. I may not be able to run, but I can walk. I can't sing, but I play the accordion well. I may not be able to run General Motors, but I am a good accountant and financial manager for the company I work for.

When faced with a problem I state "All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause and effect belong to God." Declaring that God is the source of my intelligence has had some amazing results. God as the source of my wisdom has led me to make better choices. Of course, I also have to listen for that still small voice and follow it. But with God all things are possible - what a great promise!

Wow! Thank you, Even, for this wonderful "wake up" call. As one of the "baby-boomer" generation, and dealing with a recent challenge...that "can't do....mortal list" had about 10 items a few months ago...lots of progress has been made, but several major "can't do yet" situations still seemed real! Your short, but crystal clear lift for us this morn is awesome....and the timing couldn't be better for me. Again, thanks much...new motto...."no such thing as a can't do list in the kingdom of Heaven" Love the quote from the Bible....I will hold to that, pray with that today. :)

Dear Evan, as usual, you got my thinking going after hearing this mornings Daily Lift. As I have said many times in the Daily Lifts and your Spirit Views, I have 24/7 Nurse Aide help. Since these dedicated Aides are not C/S, they are always coming to me with all their so-called ills and pills, which makes it harder for me to demonstrate C/S prayer. So what I am going to do is tell them; "Hey! you guys, what do you want to be, a sick mortal or a perfect healthy immortal child of God?" Using your simple analogy, but changing the words around a little. I will let you know how well it worked out. I am knowing for them their spiritual reality.

Can do -- Can't do. Spirit -- Matter. Thanks Evan for refreshing our awareness of our spiritual nature. Indeed, we are "can do" immortals. The Oct 16 Sentinel has an article called, "Seeing the Presence of God." Your lift Evan reminds me of a sentence that I have been praying with ever since my CS practitioner brought this article to my attention. "Right where matter is claiming presence and space, right there is God, Spirit, filling all space and governing all action." We can in every moment choose to deny barriers put up by matter or mortal mind recognizing them as "can't do" limitations. And instead, we can choose to reflect God's image and recognize his infinitude.

When I was given this new computer, Evan, I thought I'd never be able to find my way around the keys, and the amazing things that happened almost without touching the keys! But I just kept holding to the Truth that Principle creates perfect ideas, and God would show me "how to go." It wasn't easy, but gradually I gained in proficiency, and I still need to ask for help which is always forthcoming! How wonderful to think - to realize, to understand - we are CAN DO IMMORTALS! And so many others could be too, if they would just have a go.
Many thanks Nate and the production team; the BoL and lecturers; and the immortal CAN DO Daily Lifters.

Thank you, Evan. What a difference dedication to such an outlook would make in our lives, communities and the world! I said "dedication", because I believe in CAN DO, but find myself falling into some "can'ts" Wish my PC would let me use extra tiny letters to say "can't do" for this. This Lift reduces the size of "can't" in how they fit in our thought and conversation and will help me stay alert to negative concepts of myself. Besides avoiding saying "can't", it's more important to resist every negative claim. Saying or thinking "I can't" is accepting error, limitation, and lack of needed blessing. I wonder if some "I can'ts" begin with convenience, to avoid taking on a task we've been asked to do that requires more time than we want to commit. Accepting and using inability lets in convenience's cousin, known as physical inability. Then we can't figure where this error came from. It's better to refuse a task for valid reasons than to pull an easy "can't" excuse. Valid reasons do exist to not take on added tasks, but sometimes maybe we need to metaphysically handle negative reasons we won't take on what is needed. This gives me much to ponder, even if it isn't me, but others who "can't". I can treat the reasons that would make it hard to fulfill family, Church, school, employment, organizations, or community and government needs.
Thanks to all wonderful responses above! I'm thankful for all achievements because of this Lift!!

I moved to Naples, FL a few months ago and was shocked to meet so many "Can't do mortals". I had moved from a ski town in Utah. When I retired there I called the senior citizens clubhouse and got the message that "There is fresh powder on the mountains today. Call back some other day" I was delighted that all the 80 year olds were skiing fresh powder. So now when someone sounds like a can't do mortal here in Florida I will think of skiing fresh powder and being a "Can do" immortal.
Thanks for your wonderful message.

This is what came to me, as we journey from false belief (can't-do, mortal) to spiritual understanding (can-do, immortal):
From S & H w Key to the Scriptures,
As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly through the Red Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides of human fear, — as they were led through the wilderness, walking wearily through the great desert of human hopes, and anticipating the promised joy, — so shall the spiritual idea guide all right desires in their passage from sense to Soul, from a material sense of existence to the spiritual, up to the glory prepared for them who love God.
Jesus marked out the way, and Mrs Eddy followed, and so we press on, too.…we follow our Leader.…
Thank you Evan and the DL community
A subsequent posting:
..…just like the man at the pool of Bethesda, the man was focused on what he couldn't do (cant-do mortal) based on material observation of the material circumstances before him, but the Christ inspired him to improve his view through the Spirit, and allowed him to "put on the new man," the can-do immortal, and could walk away altogether from "the temporal débris."

Wow! Look at the number of comments today. This message is very needed by all including me. I am feeling sluggish and guess what? It is all in my thought. So thank you for this uplift today. I want to be a can do and not a can't do. I sprained my ankle last week and I am recovering quickly. Having this little injury showed me the love of neighbors and friends who helped me the first few days and showed me God's care for me through them. I am staying positive and not succumbing to negativity, accepting whatever lessons I can glean. And I feel grateful for this beautiful fall day and the joy of the simple act of walking. Thank you Evan for the uplift and to all the responders, I will hope to read.

- 10/9/2012When we acknowledge that the Christ is at work in our lives, we cant help but to become a "CAN DO immortal." In Christian Science we learn as Mary Baker Eddy says in S&H, With God all things are possible. She goes on to say, "Divinity is always ready. Semper paratus is Truth's motto." This gives us the can do, always ready status we need to demonstrate over whatever would try to limit us. Thank you Evan for this great lift.

- 10/9/2012Thank you, Evan, for discussing the choice of being a CAN DO immortal.

- 10/9/2012Thank you, Evan, for “Be a CAN DO Immortal … ‘I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength’…” You bring out the importance and power of how we choose to identify ourselves.

- 10/9/2012All the obstacles that appear to be on our way might seem to be real and the obvious evidence of God's absence, but I found that they are only aggressive mental suggestions that there exists a power that could oppose God.

- 10/9/2012Thanks, Evan!

- 10/9/2012Thank you, Evan, for the timely reminder of what we can do, when consciousness chooses the 'sunlight of Truth and Love' and turns away from the shadows of gloom-thought. Love the idea from nela about the can and cant doness lists. - 10/9/2012Thank you so much and thanks to all the comments.
Marita Killian from Buenos Aires
- 10/9/2012Thank you Evan and thanks to ALL the comments.

- 10/9/2012This helps. It helped me to focus what what I can do instead of what I can't. I may not be able to run, but I can walk. I can't sing, but I play the accordion well. I may not be able to run General Motors, but I am a good accountant and financial manager for the company I work for.

- 10/9/2012Wow! :)

- 10/9/2012Dear Evan, as usual, you got my thinking going after hearing this mornings Daily Lift.

- 10/9/2012Can do -- Can't do.

- 10/9/2012When I was given this new computer, Evan, I thought I'd never be able to find my way around the keys, and the amazing things that happened almost without touching the keys!

- 10/9/2012Love that CAN DO immortal!! There are definitely too many times in a day when I say that I can't do something, and this simple phrase can replace that "can't do" attitude!!! Thanks so much for showing the simplicity of it all!!!

- 10/9/2012There is a companion verse in the Bible that I like to think of in connection with "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." It is from Job (23:14) "For he (God) performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him." These angel thoughts have helped me many times when I thought I couldn't...but I could! (=

I was once told: We're not trying to see mortal man as the image and likeness of God; we're trying to see the image and likeness of God instead of mortal man. Doesn't that make our goal in healing clear?

- 10/9/2012Love the smooth conclusion with just the one voice--very seamless, thank you!
Love this Evan, must admit to having thought about a few things I don't do anymore...for one reason or another. I love the idea of supplanting that limited thought with the idea that I am a can do immortal! Isn't that grand to contemplate all day! Your messages are always delivered with a smile we can feel! Thank you for all your good work and support of the cause of Christian Science. I love also that #63, Tobias Weismann is praying for the people that care for him...not just for himself...what a steadfast warrior he is! God Bless....

- 10/9/2012Thanks, Evan. This is so helpful.
Before attending my Christian Science Association meeting, many "can't do" thoughts were stirring. I realized that this was a temptation to miss a seminar that would be a blessing for a long time to come. The information was a real wake-up call and a situation at home was much improved when I returned. So glad that our immortal status never varies. And thanks to all responders for strengthening this truth.

- 10/9/2012Thank you, Evan.

- 10/9/2012Thank you all. I appreciate your kind comments and helpful contributions. You are a CAN DO group of thinkers and doers!

- 10/9/2012I moved to Naples, FL a few months ago and was shocked to meet so many "Can't do mortals".

- 10/10/2012Great, Evan, that is a wonderful wake up call from the mesmerism of "can't" to can. My Practitioner used to say so many times. "I have, I can, I am able." Thank you for the reminder.

- 10/10/2012This is what came to me, as we journey from false belief (can't-do, mortal) to spiritual understanding (can-do, immortal):

- 10/10/2012Wow!

- 10/28/2012Kudos to #52, "I can is the son of I AM." that opens the door to what "you" are actually "doing", more like being the actor and GOD is the doer.
