Thank you Julie for this wonderful Lift. Prayer is always a worthwhile endeavor, as it never leaves us where it found us. In fact, we know the answer to our sincere prayers even before we are done praying; "Truth is always the victor." (S&H page 380)

Mrs. Eddy tells us that Christian Science presents unfoldment, not accretion. S&H 68:27
Our own demonstration of God’s power in our life might take longer than expected, but prayer is never wasted, its understanding and demonstration might come step by step, maybe like the agility of a ballerina, but like building blocks, prayer gives us a firm foundation and is always answered.
As Paul said, “be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (I Cor. 15:58)

Every prayerful insights is like a seed which when cherish grows, just like get the basic understanding right then it will expand to a higher sphere of understanding. This Lift makes me think of Mrs Eddy's statement in Science and Health, " Every pang of repentance and suffering, every effort for reform, every good thought and deed, will help us to understand Jesus’ atonement for sin and aid its efficacy;"
Every good thought and deed and prayer helps the light to extinguish the darkness

Many thanks Julie for your encouraging and inspiring lift. Yes. I needed to wait five years to see my October 29th article in print. Thank you Julie, For some time I had the feeling that I was not seeing progress in my study and understanding of God. I would look back on the previous days and question myself if I had really been letting God into my life over those days. Eventually I realized that those days had really been more fullfilling and I had been expressing more Godlike qualities and thinking. It took work but I am happy to say that I am feeling much joy about my progress. Thank you for sharing your experience in progress. It reenforces the thought that we have to practice before we can demonstrate.

Have you ever been unable to achieve something but only succeeded with the help of someone who helps you? I tried to teach myself to roll a kayak, buying how-to books and so forth, but only when someone took me on a warm sunny afternoon to a pond and worked with me, was I able to get it enough to practice on my own. Now I could teach someone myself, how it is done.
Learning from experiences along the way teaches us how to learn. I had the same experience with skiing, and overcoming wrong habits that kept me from getting it right. Observation without practice is not the same thing.
Mary Baker Eddy's Chapter on Christian Science Practice says, "Now what greater justification can any deed have, that it is for the good of one's neighbor?" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, page 440.) Maybe someone wants to learn how to ride a bicycle or something like that.

Thank you so much Julie, and having been put through the ordeal of ballet when I was at school, I really appreciate just how painful but ultimately rewarding those classes were. Our CS Teacher used to refer to our "mental muscles." She urged us to apply ourselves, and we really reaped the benefits. Sometimes when I'm struggling to be steadfast, maybe I just need to back off and remain unimpressed by the situation. When I speak with my grandchildren, I can really see the Christ.expression replace boisterous and rowdy so clearly. Others see it, too. God is "working His purpose out, As year succeeds to year. ." and this makes all the difference.
Thank you Nate and the production team; the Board of Lectureship and the lecturers, and the Daily Lifters.

Thank you, Julie, for “Every prayer counts … the way that you progress … through steps so gradual that they aren’t noticeable on a day-to-day basis. Then suddenly one day, there’s a breakthrough … not one moment of prayer is ever in vain … thought is moving … we’re growing in our understanding of God … keep praying … the healing will surely come.” This is a great, spiritually proactive way to be patient and wait on God. Patience and waiting are filled then with the expectation of “God with us” and “signs following.” Expectation becomes preparation to witness and express the Truth of being through God's laws of progress and adjustment. Thanks again for the reminder, Julie, of the power of every prayer.

Michael
- 10/19/2012
WOW!!!
Thank you Julie, this is an “Ah Ha” moment for me in dealing with other with differing thoughts.
Prayer is dependent on one’s understanding of God and I remembered Mrs. Eddy’s Scientific Translation of Mortal Mind (115:19 - condensed below):
First Degree: Depravity.
Second Degree: Evil beliefs disappearing.
Third Degree: Understanding.
As we raise our understanding God, our prayers and demonstrations are raised proportionately.
The atheist believes there is no God, therefore no prayer is effective.
The evangelical believes God is anthropomorphic (spirit/matter) and some prayers are effective.
Christian Science explains God as Spiritual, Omnipotent and Omnipresent where ALL prayers are effective.
"Every great scientific truth goes through three stages. First, people say it conflicts with the Bible. Next, they say it has been discovered before. Lastly, they say they have always believed it." (Agassiz)
Maybe our growth seems slow and painful, like trying to move the ocean with a teaspoon, but every drop, every lesson, every prayer, every human thought yielding to the divine is a step of progress towards our translation and revelation as spiritual, not material.
Thanks for this awaking of thought that proves prayer is cumulative and increasingly effective as we understand the Power and Love behind our only benefactor, God.

This is a lovely lift, thank you. Your mama was a wise lady, I, too, took many ballet classes.
I am making bread this morning, and I am not worried about the dough rising because there is yeast in it. Our prayers can be likened to the action of the yeast, of course there will be progress, we don't need to worry or be concerned. Our Heavenly Father Mother is tenderly caring for and nurturing us, this is the fact!
To # 16, Wendy in Kent, I often heard that comment in barbershop singing, too.

Good one, Julie! I've seen this time and again with my music students, but I hadn't really thought of it applying to our spiritual growth. Thanks very much for a great analogy. Mrs. Eddy encourages us in many places in Science & Health along the same lines, for instance, (p. 444) Step by step will those who trust Him find that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble," but today's Daily Lift really put this into practical focus for me. Thank you to everyone who works on the Daily Lift, and to the lecturers for listening for all these great ideas to refresh our thought.

Malcholm #22 Thanks for all your comments through the years, and your latest article in CSS
The greatest ballerina is only that because she keeps that physical and mental discipline of love, holding the perfect picture in thought and demanding its perfect expression, humbly every day precisely doing the exercises she might have started as a young child, ever learning new and better ways of expressing in harmony with the other dancers, dance master, director, staging, etc. That same exacting dedication, courage, idealism, meek boldness to do the impossible, joy at overcoming limits, playfulness, beauty, empathic connection with the human story while holding to a brighter one, attention to details all around that translate as dance, focused presence here/now to the divine Presence, that unity of all individuality.... those years of dancing and teaching dance helped me pray and heal more effectively, overcoming challenges.
The steam locomotives often required men shoveling coal into the hot furnace long after it seemed too tiring, too hot, too long, too hopeless, never knowing when that last shovel would finally result in the water in the huge tank turning to steam and with enough pressure to move the train out of the roundhouse and down the right track. Each shovel is needed, and we can't stop until we get to our destination. The same with God-centered spiritual reasoning and trusting/grateful love until every mistaken thought is corrected and the ascension complete.

There is a dangerous, what I call Animal Magnetic Mortal Minded attitude amongst some, thank God, not all, attitude, that because prayer in C/S is not answered immediately as in the past, C/S doesn't work any more. Julie Ward, in today's Daily Lift brought the answer out so well. Prayer works, no more and no less as before. Like learning how to play on a piano, prayer is a practice. Sometimes one has to fine tune a prayer by leaving go a mortal misconception. And believe me, one hears of misconceptions all the time. Where one works, telephone advertisements, the media. There is more of it every where you go. It's increasing because spiritual truths and it's understanding is increasing. Don't you get it? Correct prayer, giving God all the credit is succeeding, so mortal mind feels threatened. That's why prayer seems harder to demonstrate. Remember Jesus's words; "Get thee behind me Satan!!!" So be full of joy. Your prayers are ANSWERED.

Thank you Julie for your LIFT today. YES, every prayer counts. MY CAT IS HOME!!
THANK YOU TO THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD OF LIFTERS, for their encouragement and
PRAYERS and good support, that came from as far as Paris, France, a Country I have
visited and LOVED. All you Lifters of the Christ promised prayer for P J and HE IS
HOME, a little thinner, which he needed, LOL, but he is at home with his Mommy right where he belongs, and I am SO GRATEFUL to God, all the TRUTH applied for
his safe return, but also for the CARE AND PROTECTION he had on his 18 day, but
then who is counting, time away from home. He was , at home with God because he is in PERFECT CONDITION, not a scratch or a scrape. I cannot put into
words my JOY and GRATITUDE for P J's return to his rightful PLACE, with us. THIS
LESSON my church members, and Lift lovers will see that not only does DIVINE LOVE MEET EVERY HUMAN NEED, but that we are SAFE IN GOD'S CARE ALWAYS.
THANK YOU ALL !! (This was in the CAT ON THE SLAB lift that everyone expressed
PRAYER for P J and us to find him. What a wonderful thing this LIFT SERIES is, can't start my day without it. Thank you God, and today, Julie, and again ALL THE

In the Bible Lesson today, I read "Create in me a clean heart" (Psalms). I feel like I've been scrubbing and scrubbing, but inferior motives keep being exposed for more cleansing. I know this is worthwhile work. I may be at it for a long time!
Nevertheless, important blessings along the way have kept me going in this seemingly endless endeavour: "In His house are many mansions" --places of rest and refreshment and renewal for the journey.
To Paul #65: I admire your practicality. Whether your situation is for 7 weeks, 17 months, or 70 years, God will still be totally loving you. May you have angels of the Father-Mother's presence with you every day to companion you in each decision, whether small or large.
There's a great pamphlet available in Christian Science Reading Rooms called "God Governs." I'm going to read it again today.

Amazing how much enlightenment you crammed into that small podcast! Being new to CS, sometimes I wonder if anything I do, pray, read, is doing any good when I don't get immediate results. This was a lovely encouraging reminder...especially since I've been a dancer all my life (still am and still teach) and often need to provide calm reassurance to a student that every effort towards their goal is not wasted. Thank you again for such a beautiful Daily Lift!

I just have to add my thanks for this extremely helpful and encouraging lift, and everyone's comments.
I found Michael's (57) comments extremely inspiring, and I am so happy that PJ has returned (82).
I have just had a joyous email from someone I have been praying for, along with other of her friends and family, who was going to have an operation to remove part of her anatomy because of the belief of rampant cancer - two kinds they said.
When they came to perform the operation they could find no trace of it - several doctors were called to examine her, but they couldn't find anything. Where did it go? According to Christian Science it just returned to where it came from - nowhere. God didn't cause this condition, therefore it had no real source. My prayer was just to acknowledge and pray to understand her perfection in God's care, and to know no reality in this claim.
As we have in the Lesson, "those who come to God must BELIEVE that he is..." Truly our prayers do heal by bringing to light the reality of spiritual being. It gives one such confidence and joy when we see our prayers coming to fruition, and gives us the courage to go on praying patiently and persistently even if we don't see much progress for a while.

Thank you Julie for the marvelous insight and references to your dance instruction.
As I listened and re-listened to this lift, and have read the comments from other listeners, the fact remains that gradual steps in true, deep prayer, DO allow breakthroughs to happen! Much like the sunrise I experienced this morning, which started out as very gray with dark looming clouds moving across the sky, then all of a sudden - a brilliant orange/pink almost flaming hue washed across those clouds, illuminating them so brightly that they bathed in that brilliant exquisite color for some time! It was so spectacular - something God obviously painted and something I was blessed to behold!
Paraphrasing MBE, "Even though progress is not apparent, God is Moving! Fear, self-will and doubt are being displaced with unselfishness, obedience, and Love." This helps me to grasp that the exercise of prayer after prayer builds upon itself, allowing us the ability (as in your dance exercises) to "hold our position with greater strength."

I have http://christianscience.com/prayer-and-health/inspiration/your-daily-lift on my computer's list of memorized internet sites. Sometimes called "Favorties" or something like that. This way you can get the daily lift without waiting for it to appear as an e-mail. The daily lift is also on face-book, as DailyLift Organization and also available on your phone. I have it on my list of phone contacts, so I can listen on my cell phone any time I am not at home, where I use an internet connection via cable. The e-mail version is still there if I need to use it, every day.
I have read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures over many times, and will continue to do so. I don't know how many times I have read it. Do I understand it? Of course not, I get something new every time I read from it and think about something that is written there. I know that my job is to study what our Leader has given the world. Right now I am reading the New Testament through, And I just finished the Book of John. Our Mother would not be able to tell us anything until we are ready and receptive to hear what She has to say. God is always telling us something and it is up to each one to be receptive.
I hope to read Science and Health many more times, and I am grateful every time I pick it up, looking for comfort and understanding. This is how it works for me.

Thank you Julie. What HOPE!!! I so want a breakthrough! Struggling, trying, groping, learning, can feel like "hell", but my prayers are not in vain. Thank you Father.
I remember learning to tell time, was ever so hard. And I couldn't get a watch till I could master it. 10 years old and roman numerals were difficult to grasp. Changing the number mentally, and the switching to the numbers in-between, very challenging. But one day it all clicked. I could tell time fantastically. And when military time came to me, the principle were there and all I had to do was add or subtract.
So the Principle of Love is leading me and the breakthrough will shine. God, Good, Guards, Guides, and Governs.

Even though a bit late, I came from a trip to the norh of Argentina last night and was catching up on my in-box.
Oh, how I appreciated this DL and all the comments! Every prayer counts. When I was up there sometimes at 3900 meters above sea level, every time we stopped I picked seven little stones to remind me of the seven synonims for God and to keep praying along the way. Yes, there are times when progress does not seem to appear but we can always be sure that sooner or later we will see the answer to our prayers and good thoughts.
I remembered something I read in Cedars a couple of months ago: GAP God Answers Prayer. Love to all.

Julie, thanks so much. It is a beautiful reminder of the infinite power of God demonstrated by prayer. Here is one of my poems ( Interesting that the reference in S & H that I mentioned when I wrote the poem several months ago, is in this weeks Lesson Sermon Section 2)

Julie, muchas gracias.
seamos misericordiosos, justos y puros
¡unámonos y oremos!

- 10/19/2012Mrs.

- 10/19/2012Thank you Julie, For some time I had the feeling that I was not seeing progress in my study and understanding of God.

- 10/19/2012Have you ever been unable to achieve something but only succeeded with the help of someone who helps you?

- 10/19/2012Thank you so much Julie, and having been put through the ordeal of ballet when I was at school, I really appreciate just how painful but ultimately rewarding those classes were.

- 10/19/2012Every prayer counts is like not being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we know it is always there. And so is healing. We need constant and consistent prayers. Thanks for this inspiring message to end this week of much food for our thoughts.

- 10/19/2012Thank you, Julie, for “Every prayer counts … the way that you progress … through steps so gradual that they aren’t noticeable on a day-to-day basis.

- 10/19/2012I needed to be reminded of this invaluable point. Your example reminds me of skiing and learning to turn off a mogul—the feeling of freedom and WOW because persistence and letting go of fear turns what seemed to be a challenge into a natural act.

- 10/19/2012WOW!!!
Happy dancer, Canada
- 10/19/2012This is a lovely lift, thank you.

- 10/19/2012Good one, Julie!

- 10/19/2012Malcholm #22 Thanks for all your comments through the years, and your latest article in CSS

- 10/19/2012Thank you so much. I have been living in my office for 17 years and can't seem to find a way to have enough income to support my business and provide a place to live too, but I have been praying and having Christian Science treatment, so I know there is a right answer that will and must come and is, in fact, already present. Your insight will help me and others to see God's provision now right where it is.

- 10/19/2012There is a dangerous, what I call Animal Magnetic Mortal Minded attitude amongst some, thank God, not all, attitude, that because prayer in C/S is not answered immediately as in the past, C/S doesn't work any more.

- 10/19/2012Thank you Julie for your LIFT today.
Thank you God, and today, Julie, and again ALL THE
LIFTERS OUT THERE WHO PRAYED WITH ME.

- 10/19/2012Love this! And it is what I experienced this week. That "breakthrough" came after 5 1/2 years of praying. In one instant I knew I was healed. Along the way I had to face down discouragement, not knowing how far I'd come. But every step WAS toward progress and now I can joy in complete healing. Thank you so much for this inspiring lift!

- 10/19/2012In the Bible Lesson today, I read "Create in me a clean heart" (Psalms).

- 10/19/2012This has been a wonderful week of Lifts with today's being the "icing on the cake". Each day proof of
God's Love has been manifested in my life, even in small simple ways. What a blessing! My prayer is that everyone can feel His love and let it into their hearts and lives.
Love to all who bring us this Lift and to all the Lifters who comment. I read each comment and gain so much from your thoughts.

- 10/19/2012What a pure, healing thought. I listened to it as I went to bed and just loved it. I listened again this morning and as I read the comments, it came to me this is the inspired thought I so needed, but didn't know it. God knows what we need before we ask and this is truly a demonstration of that for me. So thank you Julie and all the lifters for sharing.

Thank you Kum Fuat #12 for reminding me of the Christ as "the divine influence on the heart." - 10/19/2012After an absence of many decades, I have returned to the study of Christian Science.
To say I am grateful for the Daily Lift seems inadequate. Each of these wonderful messages leaves me bursting with joy and makes me realize that I am growing, sometimes in very simple ways, in my understanding of God's love for all of us.

- 10/19/2012Great Lift and Comments which all are amplifying the message.

- 10/19/2012Amazing how much enlightenment you crammed into that small podcast!

- 10/19/2012I just have to add my thanks for this extremely helpful and encouraging lift, and everyone's comments.

- 10/19/2012Thank you Julie for the marvelous insight and references to your dance instruction.

- 10/20/2012I have http://christianscience.com/prayer-and-health/inspiration/your-daily-lift on my computer's list of memorized internet sites.

- 10/21/2012Thank you Julie.
Marita from Buenos Aires
- 10/21/2012Even though a bit late, I came from a trip to the norh of Argentina last night and was catching up on my in-box.

- 10/22/2012Julie, thanks so much. It is a beautiful reminder of the infinite power of God demonstrated by prayer. Here is one of my poems ( Interesting that the reference in S & H that I mentioned when I wrote the poem several months ago, is in this weeks Lesson Sermon Section 2)
LET'S PRAY *
© by Carlos
My Father will open the way
He does so every time I pray
I promise to watch and obey
For the Mind of Christ Jesus
Shall be in me all the way...
Let's do unto others
As we would have them do unto us
Let's be merciful, just and pure
Let's join together and pray!

Julie, muchas gracias.
seamos misericordiosos, justos y puros
¡unámonos y oremos!
