Yes, it is "comfort and uplifted thought" that is most needed in any tragedy.
It often takes prayer - thought turned toward God and his blessings;
and fasting - cleaning out the limitations imposed by material conditions;
to remove fear and blame from our heart, and make us fit to comfort and uplift.

Thank you Heloisa for this timely and important Lift that enables us to hold our thought steadfastly in prayer to those needing to feel comforted. On page 248 of Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy speaks of "..the unchanging calm and glorious freedom of spiritual harmony." This harmony has never been based on nor dependent upon the physical senses. What seemed to be true to the material senses was a lie; harmony is in and of God alone. When the material senses present a picture that is upsetting, we can ask the question,"What has really happened?" We can answer this in our hearts by knowing that God's eternal love forever holds man in a state of perfect spiritual harmony.

Such a tragedy just the same and so much grief for those parents who have now lost their children to continue without them, and who came into the world through love in the first place, and taken away.
Thanks Heloisa.

7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
When the USS "Thresher" sank off the coast of Cape Cod in 1963 the Christian Science Monitor included a cartoon with a very powerful message. It depicted a submarine on the sea bed and the two words "even there"
Since then the verses above have been my prayer when mortal thought wants me to accept that this is part of the kingdom of heaven.
Thank you Helisa for this much needed uplift of comfort, and I hope that the verses from Psalms bring comfort to others as well.

Another demand for us to see the unreality of disasters that we see and read about in the media. All of us are embraced in and with God in Love, as you rightly say. Nothing can change that. Thank you, Heloisa, for “Comfort in tragedy … the essence of … Christian Science is love … St. John defined Love when he said, ‘God is Love’ … something that ‘cannot be a mere abstraction, or goodness without activity and power … the silent, ceaseless prayer’ … God … is tenderly holding each one of His children right now … there is no sorrow beyond the infinite capacity of Divine Love to lift our thought and give us comfort.” I’ve always known God as ever-present, sometime though more in theory than in practice. Before I learned Christian Science as the Comforter, I didn’t realize sorrow or any other “dis-comfort” could or should be healed as much as endured. I’m grateful to be learning and living Love’s ever-presence. “God says … It is My sympathy with and My knowledge of harmony (not inharmony) which alone enable Me to rebuke, and eventually destroy, every supposition of discord ... I am ever-conscious Life, and thus I conquer death; for to be ever conscious of Life is to be never conscious of death. I am All. A knowledge of aught beside Myself is impossible” (Unity of Good 18). And we, in this image and likeness of “ever-conscious Life,” accept and share this Truth of our being and so are comforted and comfort each other and are even lifted up from needing comfort, through Divine Love. “Earth has no sorrow that Love cannot cure … Earth has no sorrow but Love can remove” (Hymn 40).

Thanks so much, Helosia, for such an inspiring, love-filled, Lift, and for each and every comment thus far. "Love iInspires, llumines, designates and leads the way. Right motives give pinions to thought and strength and freedom to speech and actions." From Science and Health, but probably not a direct quote. But our motives to help those needing comfort will give us the inspiration we need to uplift all.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mrs. Eddy tells us that "... we must deny sin and plead God's allness" (pg.15). In this case, it is as Wendy #9 tells us -- "to see the unreality of disasters that we see and read about in the media", to deny the sin of believing in the media's reports of tragedy as being reality. And we plead God's allness by knowing His children are never separated from Him, divine Life. There is no separation. We are one with God forever.
I wasn't even aware of this until tonight, Heloisa, and I have a granddaughter in South America on holiday. But I do know from my own many instances of loving care right at every precise moment it is impossible to be separated from God's love and tenderness. Emma is held close and comforted right there and now. While many are seeking help from flooding, and at the same time prayers are being strengthened for protection from bush fires, still we can be assured that there is never a moment when we can be separated from God's love and care.
Many thanks to the producers of this wonderful Lift, and to all who comment so compassionately, many thanks.

I was listening to the news on the radio this morning. They were covering the nightclub tragedy, discussing the damage, quantifying the loss. It's as though my sub-conscious had had enough and was ready for a different perspective. Without thinking much about it, I turned off the radio and clicked "play" on the lift. It was so lovely to be able to literally turn off the noise cluttering my consciousness and turn on the Truth. Thank you for this timely lift, and for the intro and outro melody of "Satisfied" from the Into The Day album.

Thank you Heloisa for your inspired message. Thinking of the events in Santa Maria, I found this sentence in Miscellanous Writings, p. 103, by Mary Baker Eddy: "The individuality is embraced in Mind, therefore is forever with the Father.
Hence the Scripture, 'I am a God at hand, saith the Lord.'"

As they suggest in airplane travel emergencies, first place the oxygen mask over your own face, then assist others. Once we hear of such nightmares, we must pull the oxygen mask to our face and take a deep breath of Truth.
The first thought which caused me to grab the oxygen mask dangling in front of me, was the idea of contagion. You know, where whatever affects one badly may similarly affect another as sympathy.
Love suggests something entirely different. Love is the term for God’s immediate care for us and others. There is no overcoming God’s Love with fire or smoke. It is Love’s nature to give a hand up and that’s what is being provided.
Thank you Heloísa for including us in comfort’s work.

Dear Heloisa,
Thank you for the beautiful lift. Daily, I find myself praying for the world to know God's comfort and care are present, even in the midst of these events that want to tell us that there is no place that isn't filled with pain or possible tragedy. To hold to the thought that life is eternal, and that these dear ones and everyone who loves them is held as God's treasure has brought me much comfort during challenging times.
Thank you so much,

Those who never studied C/S have a misunderstanding of our way of prayer, by not acknowledging tragedy. As the Bible tells us; "God is of purer eyes than to behold evil." Since God doesn't acknowledge evil, so we in our prayers disavow evil of all power. As we do this, evil is eliminated from our experience and thus from others who we have in our thoughts. When I saw the images of the horrific fire in Brazil, I thought, "Thank God it never happened." NOT, "Thank God that my son or brother, sister or mother was not there when the fire happened." That kind of prayer never works since it personalizes. The former includes all mankind.

"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light." (Rom. 13:12). This was the healing message that lifted a heavy weight of grief and sadness from my shoulders following the sudden and unexpected passing of a beloved child. Turning to the definition of "Day" in S&H (p. 584), we read: "DAY: The irradiance of Life:" That Life, God is everpresent is our comfort and reassurance that these precious ones are going right on and our assignment is to keep up with their spiritual growth by acknowledging this fact. There IS a "balm in Gilead" (Jer. 8:22), a healing comfort that blesses all! Thank you for this strong declaration of what is true, Heloisa, and to all the DLs who are declaring Life is God, now and always. With tender love.

Could I add another incident which might help those who feel so closely affected by the events in Brazil.
During World War II one of my parent's friends had the task of driving lecturers from Southampton to the town hosting the lecture.
On one journey she was driving a lecturer who she knew to be recently bereaved... and yet the lecturer was talking about her husband as if he had not recently passed on.
So my friend said " I hope you don't mind my mentioning this but I gathered that your husband was not here any more"
The lecturer replied "Of course he is still here. Where else is there to go?"

I will be faithful to Love(God) like the Shunamite woman, who when confronted with the death of her young son, went to Elisha the prophet for help. When he asked her "Is it well with the child? She answered, "It is well." (2 Kings 4:26) She did not allow herself to mentally or emotionally jump into the pit of grief and acknowledge the lie of death, loss and separation, but instead, she chose to hold to the great truth of being, to glorify God as Life, as Love, regardless of the picture presented and of the outcome. Her son was healed.
In this case, we too can be healed by holding to the truth of God's ever-present tender mothering Love, the great Comforter, touching every heart, and reassuring all that their loved ones are safe, always safe in Love's care, no matter what the appearance, these are the incontestable facts: that man is the loved child of God, inseparable from all good, forever at one with the Source of their being.

Thank you so much. This was a compassionate and uplifting message. I've been wrestling with the sorrow a friend of mine is dealing with, she is a Christian, but not a CS, who felt - although married she and her husband couldn't afford to have another child so she recently had an abortion and wasn't prepared for the pain and mental, spiritual anguish it caused her. But I was speechless to comfort. Much of what you said I will prayer with and when the time is right, I will share and know that she will be comforted and that the child is oh so safe in God's gentle Presence.

Being a International Poet a poem from my heart.
“ JESUS THE PRECIOUS GIFTS ”…!!!
I sometimes think about the Cross,
And shut my eyes and try to see,
The cruel nails and Crown of thorns,
And Jesus crucified for me.
It’s a most wonderful thing,
Almost too wonderful to be,
That God’s own Son should come from heaven,
And die to save a child like me.
I cannot tell how He could love
A child so weak and full of Sin,
His love must be most wonderful.
If He could die my love to win.
And what I knew that it’s true,
He choose a poor and humble lot,
And wept and toiled and mourned and died,
For love of those who loved Him not.
It is most wonderful to know,
His love for me so free and sure,
But it’s more wonderful to see,
My love for Him so faint and poor.
And yet I want to love thee, Lord,
O Light the flame within my heart,
And I’ll love thee more and more,
Until I see thee as thou art.
But even could I see Him die,
I could but see a little part,
Of that great love which like a fire,
Is always burning in His heart…!!!

- 1/28/2013Yes, it is "comfort and uplifted thought" that is most needed in any tragedy.
It often takes prayer - thought turned toward God and his blessings;
and fasting - cleaning out the limitations imposed by material conditions;
to remove fear and blame from our heart, and make us fit to comfort and uplift.

- 1/28/2013Thank you Heloisa for this timely and important Lift that enables us to hold our thought steadfastly in prayer to those needing to feel comforted.

- 1/28/2013What a message in the face of tragedy! : "Everlasting arms of Love are beneath, around, above. God it is who bears us on, His the arm we lean upon." Thank you deeply that you shared your awareness of reality with the world-wide community.

Quote is from Hymn 53 verse 1 from the Christian Science Hymnal.

- 1/28/2013Such a tragedy just the same and so much grief for those parents who have now lost their children to continue without them, and who came into the world through love in the first place, and taken away.
Thanks Heloisa.

- 1/28/20137 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

- 1/28/2013Thank you, Heloisa,
Another demand for us to see the unreality of disasters that we see and read about in the media. All of us are embraced in and with God in Love, as you rightly say. Nothing can change that. ".....The storm may roar without me" (CSH, 148. We are never part of the storm or separation from God nor are our loved ones.

- 1/28/2013From my own human experiences I can simply add: "He [Love] knows the angels that you need,/ And sends them to your side,/ To comfort, guard and guide." (Christian Science Hymnal #9). In the kingdom of Heaven, any so called tragedy is unreal and therefore unknown!

- 1/28/2013Well done Heloisa, you have addressed this seeming tragedy head-on - Truth speaking out, reminding us of the protection each of us has, and in particular those people affected by the event in Brazil. Lifting our hearts to this Truth reveals that they, their families and all of us are blessed with Life, not death, blessed with being at one with God, never seperated. Thank you.

- 1/28/2013Thank you, Heloisa, for “Comfort in tragedy … the essence of … Christian Science is love … St.

- 1/28/2013Thanks so much, Helosia, for such an inspiring, love-filled, Lift, and for each and every comment thus far. "Love iInspires, llumines, designates and leads the way. Right motives give pinions to thought and strength and freedom to speech and actions." From Science and Health, but probably not a direct quote. But our motives to help those needing comfort will give us the inspiration we need to uplift all.

- 1/28/2013In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mrs.
Thank you, Heloisa. Thank you, dear Mother Church.

- 1/28/2013I wasn't even aware of this until tonight, Heloisa, and I have a granddaughter in South America on holiday.

The strength of the Love that you speak about is definitely felt and I am feeling for the first time that Love in Christian Science is much more than just sweet human affection! It is a powerful, active force that not only comforts, but also upholds All in its strong embrace. Thank you so much for this! This Lift can be used by all of us for so many different situations in our lives! Blessings to All!

- 1/28/2013I was listening to the news on the radio this morning.

- 1/28/2013Thank you Heloisa for your inspired message.

- 1/28/2013As they suggest in airplane travel emergencies, first place the oxygen mask over your own face, then assist others.

- 1/28/2013Dear Heloisa,
Thank you for the beautiful lift.
Thank you so much,
Kalani

- 1/28/2013Those who never studied C/S have a misunderstanding of our way of prayer, by not acknowledging tragedy.

- 1/28/2013"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light." (Rom.

Years ago, after the Challenger exploded during take off, to the silent NASA command station rocket scientists, a friend of a friend stood up and said, "I wonder what the first thing was that they said to each other when they realized they had lost contact with earth." What a wonderful way to indicate that they all went on, safe in the allness of infinite Love!

- 1/28/2013Could I add another incident which might help those who feel so closely affected by the events in Brazil.

- 1/28/2013I will be faithful to Love(God) like the Shunamite woman, who when confronted with the death of her young son, went to Elisha the prophet for help.

- 1/28/2013Thank you so much.

“ JESUS THE PRECIOUS GIFTS ”…!!!
I sometimes think about the Cross,
And shut my eyes and try to see,
The cruel nails and Crown of thorns,
And Jesus crucified for me.
It’s a most wonderful thing,
Almost too wonderful to be,
That God’s own Son should come from heaven,
And die to save a child like me.
I cannot tell how He could love
A child so weak and full of Sin,
His love must be most wonderful.
If He could die my love to win.
And what I knew that it’s true,
He choose a poor and humble lot,
And wept and toiled and mourned and died,
For love of those who loved Him not.
It is most wonderful to know,
His love for me so free and sure,
But it’s more wonderful to see,
My love for Him so faint and poor.
And yet I want to love thee, Lord,
O Light the flame within my heart,
And I’ll love thee more and more,
Until I see thee as thou art.
But even could I see Him die,
I could but see a little part,
Of that great love which like a fire,
Is always burning in His heart…!!!
