From the Board of Directors: an invitation to Annual Meeting 2013

- Church News

Dear Friends,

You are warmly invited to join with us on the Internet for Annual Meeting 2013. This year’s theme is Small Seeds … Vital Growth: A Church rooted in healing. Christ Jesus taught that a tiny mustard seed—“the least of all seeds”—would grow into a tree where birds would lodge (see Matthew 13:31, 32). In her article “The Way,” Mary Baker Eddy made this promise: “The seed of Christian Science, which when sown was ‘the least of all seeds,’ has sprung up, borne fruit, and the birds of the air, the uplifted desires of the human heart, have lodged in its branches” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896, p. 356).

We invite you to join with us in studying the full article “The Way” in preparation for this meeting. In it, Mrs. Eddy gives us the three stages of mental growth. Doesn’t the growth of one leaf improve the branch of which it is part? And doesn’t the enhancement of the branch increase the tree for the benefit of all? Our spiritual growth blesses all.

Since everyone attending this year's meeting will be doing so on the Internet, we are endeavoring to take full advantage of the online format and plan to include ample views of the Church, the Plaza, and different departments here at the Center. In addition, we’re gathering Field reports from many parts of the world. So this year’s meeting should be as expansive and universal as those in past years. One member who watched the live webcast of last year’s Annual Meeting thought it provided a pentecostal experience, full of a spiritual sense of unity with members around the globe. She felt “the Church ‘mothering’ the world.” You can read her short article here.

We invite you to gather in groups or individually and join us for the live webcast at 1:00 p.m. Boston time June 3. You will find it on the Annual Meeting webpage. If that isn’t convenient, the replay will be available approximately 24 hours after the end of the meeting.

With much appreciation for all you are doing,
