Eddy founded her church in 1879, and later ordained the Bible and Science and Health as pastor of the church. She reminded adherents to "... follow your Leader only so far as she follows Christ" (Message for 1901, p.34). Today, the headquarters of the Church of Christ, Scientist, are in Boston, MA, USA, and local branch churches can be found throughout the world. more about the church

Eddy published 17 titles over the course of her lifetime—some, stand-alone books, while others were printed versions of sermons she gave in Boston. When asked by a British magazine for a list of 6 of her works which she specially recommended for those interested in the question of Christian Science, she provided the following titles: Science and Health (to date, available in 16 languages), Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896, Unity of Good, Church Manual, Christ and Christmas, and Rudimental Divine Science.

The Life of Mary Baker Eddy: Sibyl Wilbur. Written with Eddy's permission, Wilbur's book stands as one of the foundation stones for all the biographies that followed it. It offers a good overview, and is an easy-to-read introduction. Mary Baker Eddy: Christian Healer Amplified Edition: Yvonne Caché von Fettweis and Robert Twonsend Warneck. This book is focused on the work Eddy did as a Christian healer and includes all documented accounts of healing accomplished throughout her life. Mary Baker Eddy: Gillian Gill. This scholarly biography was first published in 1998. It offers a well-rounded view of Mrs. Eddy's childhood and is a good reference source written from the perspective of someone who is not a Christian Scientist.More biographies
