Welcome to the Christian Science Trust in Australia
The Trust was established in 1983 by The Christian Science Board of Directors to provide a collection point for receiving gifts within Australia. Such gifts can then be used for the purpose of promoting and extending the religion of Christian Science as taught by Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook: “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” and for the furtherance of such other charitable purposes as are consistent with the teachings and practice of Christian Science. Because of the authority given in the Deed, the Trust will generally distribute funds to Manual-based activities conducted by branches and individuals which will have an impact on the promotion and extension of the religion – activities which provide “…proof of [their] utility and [are] found elevating the race…” (Science & Health p 583).
The Board of Directors appoints Trustees to administer the affairs of the Trust and the Trustees are responsible for the investment of the funds held, and, subject to the approval of the Committee on Finance, the disbursement of grants. Both of these functions are administered in conjunction with the Office of the Treasurer of The Mother Church in Boston and in keeping with the Church Manual. Although the funds are used primarily in Australia, they can and are being used, with guidance from the Mother Church, in the broader international community for the promotion and extension of Christian Science.
