1. Suzy Dmetruk says:

These are definitely words to live by. For many years now, before I even open my eyes in the morning, I recite the words, “This is the day the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” I’ve found that even on days that seem extra challenging, that just by acknowledging God’s power and presence, I can always find some good to rejoice about and be grateful!

2. Sarah says:

Marvellous! Fun is healing, and so it’s definitely from God. I’ve often found that when praying about a problem it really helps to have some fun or do something light-hearted (maybe read a funny book) – then we can let the problem go.

3. Calvi says:

How true! Life is, even must be, fun, for our being is, among other things ” . .boundless bliss.” S&H 481:4

Thanks for this memorable , wonderful, and joyful reminder.

4. Elena Shideler, California (San Diego) says:

Just wonderful, welcome Julie! Joy is a natural quality of Spirit and a child reflects it in its purest stage. I think that is why we like little kids so much, a toddler’s smile just makes you smile back, they know it and it never fails. I think when we smile at a toddler we are “entertaining angels unawares.” “Angels are God’s representatives. These upward-soaring beings never lead towards self, sin, or materiality, but guide to the divine Principle of all good, whither every real individuality, image, or likeness of God, gathers. By giving earnest heed to these spiritual guides they tarry with us, and we entertain “angels unawares.” (S&H 299:11-17)

SPANISH
(CyS 299:13-20)

11. Rosemary S.Africa says:

Precious ! Julie. Out of the mouth of babes ! Thank you for that lift, both
my brother and I had a good laugh at the simplicity of that childlike
message and have determined to have some fun today. Rose and
Geoff and love to both you and your little one.

12. Malcolm Drummond, Henrietta NY says:

Many thanks Julie for your “happy fun” lift” A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance:” (Prov. 15:13) I have just had my two young dranddaughters visit me for three weeks from out of state, so fun games and music were a daily requirement.

13. Anne says:

Thank you Julie. Today I needed that thought. God Bless you.

16. melanie in mcdonough says:

Awesome! Great way to start the day. Thanks Julie.

17. Anne says:

Just what I needed!

18. Jeannie says:

Thanks, Julie! I love this. Sometimes when I wake up I think of the long list of to dos for the day. Today I have a play date with a long time friend, so I woke up with the idea that it will be a fun day. What a great reminder that God always has fun activiites for us. I recently went to Disney World with my grandchildren and their parents. We kept joking about “having a magical day” as we stood in long lines and tried to find a cool spot in the sweltering heat. There were some magical moments – but they were not the rides – it was the touch of a child’s hand or just sharing time together. We can find those moments in every day if we are listening for God’s voice and rejoicing in His day!

19. Emma says:

Beautiful! Thank you

20. r.g. in brunswick, maine says:

Sounds to me like the two-year old was putting on the Christ.

22. Lorraine from Dayton, Ohio says:

What precious messages God gives to our little ones who in turn give them to us! When my son was very young he fell down but he immediately jumped up and said: “I’m all right, Mommy. I know God.” It was such a good message that i’ve never forgotten it. All is well, when we know and feel God’s presence with us. Every day is a day to have fun! Thanks so much for this daily lift. Lorrie

23. Grace – UK says:

Fabulous! Thank you & many thanks too, to your little toddler. The missing link found; “Let’s have some fun!” Instant day brightening!

24. Sandy says:

Thanks Julie, for that joyous thought. Great to see your smiling face and the love in it.

25. Annie says:

Yes! In my retirement years, fun is very important to me, as is understanding our Mother/Father God. And finding humor in many things is also a goal of mine. It’s a good way to live.

26. Solange from Brasil says:

Really enjoyed this message !
A couple of times when I calmed down my thoughts and listen to God, I heard the same thing: “There´s nothing wrong, go and have some fun !! :)

27. D–Indiana says:

I love this. I heard an lecture years ago ask a man if he was supremely happy. The man said he was. The lecturer said to tell his face, because he wasn’t smiling. “Man is the expression of Soul. The Indians caught
some glimpses of the underlying reality, when they called a certain beautiful lake “the smile of the Great Spirit.” ” Science & Health p. 477
We can all reflect “the smile of the Great Spirit.”

28. Mary H. AL says:

Thank you, that was great – lets have fun today.
Thanks to every one for your comments.

29. Linda says:

Thank you Julie! How important to remember that fun is important. We should become as little children more often and direct our vision to the light side of life!

30. Lynne from PA says:

Thank you for this sweet message…I find that our Dear Father-Mother-God always speaks to us in a way that we can understand and appreciate!

I work every day with young children and I do find that the little ones are amazingly receptive to spiritual truths. One day when my own little two year old came to me with a rather large sliver in his baby finger I discovered how receptive ….the sliver did not want to come out with a human “pull” so we decided we should pray. He went in to another room and sat quietly while I “listened” as well. I had no sooner thought ” a spiritual idea has not a single element of error and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive”….when he came running to me with the sliver in his hand…and the “wound ” beautifully healed!

I said “how did you pray?” He said “I just knew that there is no spot where God is not and that God didn’t put that sliver there, and it fell out! ” :)
I am still in awe of the purity of thought and the receptivity that brought about that lovely healing!! Not a doubt in his thought that God would help him!!

A very special memory which I can dearly use today!

Thank you! Let’s have some fun :)

31. Elaine from Toronto says:

Your Daily Lift uplifted my thought from a pressing problem, and instead of dwelling on that, I shall endeavour to go forth and have some fun!

32. Bob Minnocci says:

Very sweet and powerful. Thank you.

33. Pat from McCaysville GA says:

Recently at a meeting a wonderful lady had some readings from the Bible. One of the verses was:

“…he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.” Proverbs 15:15

I can see God’s plan for us is to “be merry” and enjoy the wonderful gifts that we have received. Thanks for the reminder that God is always saying, Let’s quit worrying, quit feeling so responsible and burdened, so angry, so heavy…. Let’s feast at God’s table and … Let’s Have Some Fun!!!!

Thanks You so much… and Have a merry day!!!

34. Chris says:

If you’re not having FUN — You’re not doing it right!!!

Just the message I need to hear today! Great lift and much appreciated, Julie. Sounds like Nate lives this lift every day…which is infectious.

40. Margaret, Sunshine Coast, Australia says:

Julie, laughter is the key to everywhere and everything. Even if you don’t speak another language, we all laugh with the same effortless joy. Little kids in whatever country of the world always think people are really amusing. Utterly hilarious, actually. Especially those of us who come from somewhere else. Nathan, what a shame we couldn’t hear everyone’s unrestrained laughter as they listen to this Lift! Thank you for the opportunity to have all the Lifters laughing at the same time, Julie.

41. tjc in Lawrenceville, Ga says:

Jamie had that right!! Thanks for sharing, Julie. It puts a smile on the face.

42. Emily S. in Wisconsin says:

Your Lift was pure joy today, Julie! Welcome and thank you. :)

45. Phyllis says:

Thank you Julie!

46. KMO says:

What a ray of sunshine with which to start off my day! Thank you, Julie. Life can easily track to the serious side of things if we’re not careful, so I’m grateful for this reminder to have some FUN, too!!! A line from a hymn comes to mind: ” . . . . joy cometh in the morning . . . ” —in the morning of inspiration, which most certainly includes JOY.

47. Sharon L from Toronto says:

Thanks Julie!

Ahhhh! The wisdom of innocence. I believe awakening to Love returns us to Innocence and this story proves it!

I wish you all a day filled with innocence and fun!

48. Sylvia Boston says:

That child-like thought does it again and again and again.

I can just picture that toddler of yours!

Thank you Julie……………precious..

51. Don from Decatur, GA says:

Thanks Julie.

Christian Science is the greatest fun anyone can have, isn’t it, because it teaches us that we are all God’s children and gives each of us the highest sense of joy possible!

It was a joy to hear your message this morning!!

52. rrh in Topeka, Kansas says:

Hey, this is great. Reminds me of a local “TV preacher” whose wife once said “God is fun.” Her remark stuck with me. Thanks again for the great message today !

53. Yetty says:

Thank you Julie for this wonderful lift. I have been thinking about my child who is going to answer some questions from his bosses at work. He mentioned this to me. and I told him that I will support him prayerfully. Now I can tell him to go and have some fun knowing fully well that God will speak to him.
Thank you all for your comments. Have a fun day all!!!!!!!!!!.

54. Susan – Vancouver says:

The message is so heart warming Julie and Guess What! That’s exactly what we’re going to do with God, today and every day. Welcome, and thank you for your uplifting thoughts – from God of course.

56. Glenna in Laguna Beach, CA says:

What a joy to wake up to your Daily Lift this morning! Thank you, Julie, for sharing this message of God’s joy-filled day that embraces each of us every day!

57. Tracy C-K says:

A wonderful reminder before a very busy day where I need to be productive. I know bringing joy and expectancy of fun to my tasks will bless this day! Such a delightful message. There’s a great article “Truly Delightful” in the August 9th Sentinel.Enjoy! Thanks!

58. Kaye from Kansas says:

Oh, I love it! Thanks Julie!

59. Gary – Nanaimo says:

Hey Hey, what a joy it is to discover the childlike innocence and purity that exists in reality in every one. We make these discoveries when we are still and listening to God. Then we encourage and honour these qualities – “feed my sheep”. It is fun!

60. Marilyn from Maine says:

What a tender and perfect message for today. It can inspire everyone, including anyone working in any capacity for a church service! And of course that includes everyone who will come to a service or meeting.

I especially liked the gentle healing in #30. Thanks, Lynne, for telling the world about it..

61. Kathy says:

Thank you, Julie! How appropriate that your first lift would remind us all to have fun. You so beautifully embody that joy. Prayer isn’t heavy – it is the natural revelation of God’s ever-presence. And that IS fun!

62. Joy from Lethbridge says:

What an inspiring, uplifting and yes, FUN way to begin the day. Thank you Julie for this message and all praise to God who knows our needs at all times and stages of our lives.

I like that.

Just what I needed to hear, Julie! You are joy’s cheerleader–and always have been. Thank you!

65. Leslie in St. Simons Island, Ga. says:

Thanks, Julie. Wonderful thought. I’m so glad you’re a lecturer now!!

66. Robert Weiss, Raymore, MO says:

Really good!…Thanks, Bob

67. Michael says:

Thanks Julie for this simple yet potent reminder.

… “and a little child shall lead them.” (Isa 11:6) [Echo #49].

We expend and waste so much time and energy, wrestling with a human sense of maturity, false responsibility and the burden of resolving the world’s problems. What a perfect reminder of Jesus’ words … “Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matt 18:3,4)

Do we really think we are benefited by trying to improve the human condition, which is just a mortal dream, instead of finding true communion with the innocence and spirituality of heaven and our relationship with all God’s ideas?

Carefree means freedom from human care, all is which is false, self-inflicted or acquired materially. It has nothing to do with age, inexperience, immaturity, or undeveloped adolescence.

We seem to be constantly trying to improve on God’s creation of ourselves (or others) with diets or dialogue, exercise or explanations, riddance or ridicule? The work of creation is God’s. He did it right the first time and He did it very well thank you. It has no need of our help for tweaking or additional human embellishments.

We must first accept this simple childlike truth and trust that the work is done, over, finished for this day and all eternity. His creation is FINAL (nothing is left undone), UNIVERSAL (it applies everywhere throughout His creation), and NEAR (there is no time or situation in our immediate experience where God’s work is not fully expressed, complete, and constantly in action, yes, right now).

That translates to F.U.N. in my thinking. The logical step we take after the work is done is to go have FUN. I’ll take two please.

68. Lee in Texas says:

Many years ago I was suffering from the belief of cancer. I had been working with a Christian Science practitioner for months when the symptoms seemed to take a turn for the worse, and then symptoms of other illnesses appeared as well. I remember wailing to God, how can I work on so many problems at the same time? And the answer came: “You can be sure that animal magnetism knows it’s losing when it throws everything it has at you, including the kitchen sink.” The picture of mortal mind throwing a big,old kitchen sink at me made me laugh out loud. And that laughter broke the mesmerism. I knew right then that I was healed. Since then I’ve learned that error wants you to focus solely on it, but that if you go off and do something lighthearted and fun instead, and stop runimating on the problem, you rob it of any seeming power and send it back to its native nothingness. Many thanks for today’s wonderful lift.

69. Leah says:

Such a beautiful story! Yes, Life, God, is good… so let’s have some fun! Thank you!

70. Harrison says, says:

It is fun to watch God work his purpose out. It puts smile on face.

71. Jim in St. Louis says:

Thank you Julie!

72. Jackson says:

Hey, Great Words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

73. Rene says:

What a wonderful way to start our day – with having some fun! We just returned from a wonderful vacation in Idaho, and everyday was fun to the max! Thank you for this wonderful uplift today!

74. katherine says:

Your son’s comment brought to mind a healing experience I had when my children were very young. I had just had a baby and the baby was crying nonstop. I said, “I’ve fed you. I’ve changed you. I’ve burped you. I’ve rocked you. I don’t know what else to do.” I reached out to God in prayer. My little three year old son was standing by and taking all of this in. He suddenly said, “Mommy, I have the answer! We should just love him!” And, indeed, it was the answer. My heartfelt thanks to all who make this lift possible.

75. Bev Newsham – Sandpoint, ID says:

Loved it, Julie! How nice to know we really do have permission from God to have Fun with our Lives! Believe it or not, I’ve had to work hard to just have Fun this summer and not to worry about not having a job or what will happen in the Future! “You vill haf Fun!” The message I keep getting from God is to get out there and have Fun! Nice to know that God isn’t somber and serious, doesn’t live in the 1800’s and doesn’t wear a corsett! I think even the best of religions have a touch of “old theology” in them and back in the “old days” religion, church, bible reading, etc. was all supposed to be very heavy and serious – no laughing or joking or having fun allowed. Lots of guilt and punishment for not working hard, suffering and “doing it right”! Whew! As one of my favorite songs/hymns says: “God’s will for me is Perfect Happiness”!! Nice to find a God who wants me to have Fun!

76. Susan in Maine says:

Glorifying God is always ‘fun’! And it’s our right activity.

77. star says:

Duty is always calling. Nice to know I can allow myself some guilt-free time for “fun” today.

78. Wade Hardy, Escondido, CA says:

Hi Julie,

Great to hear from you with your gift of joy, as always!

You reenforce the recognition of peace and joy in this practical practice of
Christian Science.

Thank you!

Wade

79. Sally from San Diego says:

On my computer’s frame I have stuck up a yellow sticky note with favorite messages from past Daily Lifts. This one is perfect for today, “A smile celebrates Love’s presence”. What better way to honor, praise, and love God than to smile at every one of His children today. It’s fun to be happy.

80. Barbara Ann, Las Vegas says:

Fantastic Reminder, Julie from Atlanta Georgia! When I came into Christian Science back in 1977, I was suffering from extreme depression. And the practitioner, or healer, and also Reading Room Librarian counseled me that “expression” is the “opposite” of “depression.” She added that my face looked so sad, and that she was going to keep working until I had the most beautiful smile!

It didn’t come all at once, but there were moments of peace, serenity, and hymns which she always recommended for she used to be a voice teacher. And I turned to my young sons and husband and we began to have fun together, in sports, Disneyworld, camping.

But after my husband wandered off with war problems, I was on my own and unable to have fun as a grown up. It was all work, work, work for he left me penniless.

As I prayed to know that it was my “divine right” to be able to be joyful, I began to find dances that I could go to as a single. And then I found karaoke lessons at a college. Some people think they should “give” their children joy, such as karaoke machines, but not have the fun for themselves.

I almost felt guilty, but bought myself a karaoke machine and continued singing, and dancing, and realized it was “good, God,” for grownups to have fun on their own also. I felt that I was truly blessed.

It took be from being painfully shy, almost as painful as any boil, or severe bruise, or lump on the head, to feeling confident, joyful, and not only having fun myself, which would make it selfish, but bringing “fun” to others whose day might not have gone too well and needed a little respite. The practitioner truly got her wish for I smile easily today. And now I see the “smiles” I put on the faces of others

I am truly grateful for our Master, Lord Jesus, Mrs. Eddy the founder of Christian Science, the patient and loving teachers and practitioners and Reading Room attendents, this Daily Lift, the Mother Church, and all those that helped me and my sons along the wa

81. Maureen from Spearfish says:

Well, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that today’s LIft is JUST what I needed to hear!! Of course God/Love would meet my need!!

“Life” has seemed “too much” lately: pulling heart and soul together after an unwanted divorce; taking care of a house overflowing with memories and needed repairs; helping an elderly relative, and a multitude more things that just seem to add up to more than I can do.

Lately, instead of trying to figure out what to do humanly, I’ve been turning to God and asking with the heart of a child, “What do you want me to do today?” My focus has been knowing God better each day, and claiming that my only purpose is to reflect Him. He spoke to me through the words of CS Hymn #182, telling me to “make channels for the streams of Love.” What a reassurance, that Love is pouring out Itself to me, and my only job is to make channels to receive that love.

Today’s lift reminded me how much God has been calling me to be His child, NOT his human grownup, burdened by life. On pages 236-237 of S&H, we find many thoughts about children. In particular, I”ve been holding to the idea of how Mrs. Eddy described one little girl, “bounding off with laughing eyes.”

That’s me today: bounding off with laughing eyes, most definitely with my hand in my Father/Mother’s, having the pure fun of being a loved child of my heavenly Parent.

Thank you, Julie, for helping transform my day.

82. Maureen from Spearfish says:

Forgot to add my thanks to all the commenters, and especially #68–I love what that practitioner said to you, in essence that you can tell when error is losing the battle, because it empties its bag of tricks and throws everything at you . . even the kitchen sink. Oh, yes, how divinely inspired laughter can break the mesmerism . .. .

83. cc says:

The “Lift” today was so timely. there were two instances today where I asked my toddler to talk to God and listen for guidance. another instance when I should have done that. :0

I’ve been very grateful to know that God can speak directly to our little ones. They are not empty vessels who are dependent on us, but God’s image an likeness bursting with love and joy.

Thanks for the lift.

84. Patty says:

Thank you. What I needed to hear was ……Listen for God’s thoughts when you wake up. I’m usually acting and need to be quiet and listen to what God is telling me.
i learned this summer to put my dog in God’s pocket .I had taken a trip and he had missed me terribly. I called my practitioner and she requested that I put him in God’s pocket. It was such a sweet thought that it just broke all of my fears. I called again to check on him. My room mate said he kept her awake because he
was snoring so loudly. All was well. God was in control. I wake up now and often put myself in God’s pocket, but since I’m awake I also need to listen.

85. Amelia, from Cape Cod says:

IT IS A SO LIGHT LIFT, JULIE!
THANKS FOR BRINGING SOME FUN TO THIS BROADCAST!
IT REMINDED ME OF A HEALING THAT I HAD ONCE.
I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH TENDINITIS AND MY SHOULDER WAS HURTING A LOT.
AFTER CALLING MY PRACTITIONER, I TURNED MY CD PLAYER ON.
SEVERAL TIMES I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO REPLAY THE SONG “TWO STEPS AND A BOUNCE”, WHERE THE CHILDREN’S VOICES WERE SINGING “… AND BOUNCE FOR JOY!” AND SO I DID!!!!!! I STARTED BOUNCING WITH JOY, FREE OF PAIN.
IT WAS LIKE GOD HAD SAID TO ME ALSO “LET’S HAVE SOME FUN!”

86. Janie S. says:

Julie,
How wonderful to hear from you -and having you newly available as a lecturer, is a blessing to all of us. I love Jamie’s receptivity to God’s loving, happy message for his children – have some fun!

I am so grateful for these precious little nuggets of daily inspiration – truly an expression of “manna” for today. Thanks to all who make it available!

87. Karen, Santa Fe says:

Thanks, Julie & son. It is definitely fun to defeat error.

88. Connie says:

Thank you for helping all of rejoice today!
I have been thinking about all of the joyous sounds in nature. The singing of birds very early in the moring, the chirps of squirrels and chipmunks, the breeze blowing softly through the trees, babbling brooks, the laughter of the ocean, whales calling to other whales, and in the Bible, Ps.104:26, “There is that levbiathan whom thou hast made to play therein.” So much fun for all God’s creation!

89. Felicia in Oregon says:

What an inspiring Lift and what inspiring comments! I appreciate #67’s comments about our “adult” tendencies to feel as though we’ll be worthy of our Mother/Father’s love, once we’ve done certain things to perfect ourselves, i.e. dieting, becoming a better, kinder person, cleaning the house or whatever else it is that mortal mind wants to convince us we need to DO in order to deserve God’s UNCONDITIONAL love!! How crazy is that!! And yet I seem to fall for it almost everyday. So every reminder, every inspired thought is an aid for remembering how loved I am just because I AM. I so appreciate this network of “Lifters”,the lecturers and the people behind the scenes, and the commenters who share their experiences and insights. THANK YOU ALL!!!!!

90. darlene, los angeles says:

dear julie and precious jamie too! we learn from these wee ones! your reminder to be still and listen to god’s good thoughts is imperative, though for me sometimes difficult to wade through the “mind mire” before i have the clarity to listen to god. the challenge is worth it…to laugh and be joyous is always so pure. to “get out of one’s self” and face the world with love is my daily goal. a favorite saying of mine: “pay it forward.”

thank you julie. you have “up” lifted me today. a fun day to all!

sincerely yours.

91. bill says:

As wonderful a ‘lift’ as we’ve had….. a great thought…. right from God…..

92. J.S. in Ky says:

This Lift is a good, one, Julie, and I do need to lighten my thought. So I’ll work with this. Thank you for it. Please, though not meant to be, this may sound disrespectful, but I couldn’t help but laugh because it reminded me of a funny song by Ray Stevens. So many of my conversations, and listening time with the Father, are so serious, brought on by struggles. In Ray’s song, he lists all sorts of awful but ridiculous episodes a couple had endured, such as drunkenly falling in their ice cream and nearly freezing to death, and interrupts himself with the exclamation, “We’re talking fun!” I don’t drink, but I guess some of the lessons I’ve gotten to learn in my struggles, if seen after they are over, I could almost, I say ALMOST declare in one of my frequent appeals to Abba, “We’re talking fun!” Thanks for sharing the light hearted insight of your son. Thanks everyone for your light and lifting comments, too. I’ll be using them, too. #40 Margaret (in Australia) – With laughter accepted as very healing even in the medical world, your remark of us all laughing supports a great healing went forth to the world from this day’s lift. #68 Lee, Beautiful testimony, Thanks for sharing. I’ve friends who need this shared with them. Thanks folks for the other testimonies shared today. This is an inspiring day with this lift experience.

93. Priscilla in Portland says:

I love it! Listening to God should be fun.

94. S Carol, Douglass says:

Thank you so much for the uplifting thought today. It is a good reminder where to begin our day each day.

with much appreciation
S Carol

95. Ruthilary says:

I was given the middle name Hilary, and I was told from an early age that it means Happiness, to remind me that it was my nature as a child of God & that I had a divine right to be a happy expression of God. Everyone has this nature of lightness and brightness but how often do we remember it? As Lee[68] said, laughter can break the focus or mesmerism of any negativity. I love this “lift” it really is a lift! and thanks to everyone who contributed! Isn’t Fun all about the Love of Life? …. When we look for it, and share it, it’s inclusive and sends out ripples!
A practitioner I knew, claiming his God given freedom of movement, watched a spaniel’s delight and enjoyment in chasing seagulls so that they soared off into the wind, & found it so invigorating, that healing shortly followed.

96. Peggy A. says:

What a wonderful lift! so appreciate it and the comments of others…seems we all need to be quiet and listen..then have fun loving God and allowing Him to love us.

97. ANTOINE HANNIE ET LES ENFANTS ORPHELINS RDCONGO BOMA says:

AMUSER AVEC LES ENFANTS NOUS FAIT GRANDE JOIE C’EST L’ IMAGE DE NOTRE PERE MERE QUI NOUS AIME TANT A NOTRE QUALITE DES SES ENFANTS

98. Tony says:

This was great!

99. Julie says:

Thank you, dear “lifters”, for your wonderful comments and healing experiences. In Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy writes,”Divine Love blesses its own ideas and causes them to multiply, – to manifest His power.” (517:31) I love the way we’ve seen joy multiply today. I know it will only continue.

100. Sue from Australia says:

Thank you Julie. This lift brought back wonderful memories of a healing involving my 3 year old son who’s behaviour was causing some problems at the time. After praying with the story of Daniel I got a much clearer view of his innocence and nature as the expression of joy. Minutes after this realisation my son and his friend were protected from being run over by a car. My gratitude for this demonstration of Gods love and protection and to Christian Science which enabled me to witness this love is with out bounds.

101. Cynthia says:

Just what I needed to hear, thank you so much for sharing!

102. Jamie says:

How terrific to be reminded of the sweet place of joy in our experience! Mrs. Eddy says that man is “the compound idea of God, including all right ideas,” and surely joy , fun, and a sense of lightness are among those right ideas. Thank you, Julie, for these happy and uplifting thoughts.

103. Walda in Mt says:

Thank you, Julie, all the responders and #67, very much.

104. Darlene in Yucca Valley says:

Thank you, Julie and everyone for the joy today and the permission to paint in my studio for a while and have some FUN.

The proofreader in me thinks you might want to correct the spelling of Atlanta before this goes to the archives. :-)

Thank you Julie!
That is just perfect!

106. Rose says:

Put a smile on my face for sure. Thanks!

107. CW of Dana Point says:

I haven’t heard the term fun with CS before and it is refreshing……….it is natural, beautiful and spiritually soaring IS fun. Lots!

108. Edie in Portland, OR says:

When my son was scared of neighbor kids in our apartment and going to the middle school, and scared of moving to a new house and new neighborhood/school, he was raging at me, saying he would not move “…unless the neighbors had a Tyrannosaurus Rex in their front yard!” We were driving our first time to the new house our landlord had offered us, and misreading the address, I said, something like, “It’s almost here.” And right then, the house on our right had a huge, T Rex in the side/front yard, taller than the house. It was made of large white metal tubing to simulate bones and huge teeth, but of all the things he could have said and the timing being so perfect, my girls and I couldn’t help laughing. For me it broke the mesmerism and I trusted God moving us. My son had to walk past T Rex every day for years on his way to the middle school and high school he loved, where it remained most of the next 14 years we’ve lived here. (Christmas they, put a red light at its nose.) When I went to photograph it for an article, it was gone and the owners moved, but when I was disappointed the joke was on me again. It had been moved across the street and down the street into someone else’s yard.

It reminds me to be open to God’s fun waking me up, to be ready for the unexpected, and to have fun. (Three out of four of us still laugh about it.) Harry Potter learned to laugh at the boggart simulating one’s worst fears, thereby turning it to its native nothingness. Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy also had a quick wit, bright humor, and sense of fun. MBE said that often when one laughs it releases the liar’s hold. Thanks for reminding me to, “Let’s have some fun!” and not take pretentious personal sense so seriously.

109. Jan D from St. Louis says:

If we’re not having fun, we’re not doing it right!
If we’re not having fun practicing Christian Science, we’re not practicing Christian Science!

110. Ruth in Alberta, Canada says:

Thanks for the reminder that God also says to have fun! I had been praying to deal in thought with material that misjudged Christian Science, as well as to know how to respond to emerging legislative changes re health care here. Concern relaxed into trust in God’s care when it came to me to check a book on my shelf: “Christian Science: A Sourcebook of Contemporary Materials” (CSPS Boston,1990). This digest of articles was a great help in seeing how other CS healers had written clearly, and with love, to many sources — now the fun of following such examples.

For #75, Bev: One particularly joyful friend testified that a struggle re finding rewarding work turned around when she realized that her “mission was to heal” (hymn # 5 ). She had been in a clown troupe and helping run a local film festival — this blossomed into traveling the globe coaching people in the film world, and helping set up collaborations. A dedicated Christian Scientist, I’m sure her essential mission remains the same!
Opportunities to heal lead to right place. “Love brings need and supply together for mutual good”. One chilly evening I stood at the bus stop feeling alone, when a tiny boy there with his dad began to cry – when I asked if he was cold, he jumped off the bench and ran toward my knees with open arms – a hug warmed us both, and he ran off to “peekaboo” behind the bench with his dad until the bus came — a “Nookum” (or grandmother) moment, a native friend noted — “Love reflected in love.”

For #81 Maureen: “channels” to receive God’s love are for giving it too – which you do on the Daily Lift ! Faced with challenges, Mrs. Eddy’s example is encouraging in finding “new views”:
(Sc&H 199:21-22) “The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible”, and (S&H 264:10-12) “We must look where we would walk, and we must act as possessing all power from Him in whom we have our being.” A practitioner laughed that I could “act” this way, until I knew it was so!

Whta a great idea, God Bless

112. Jackie in Oswego, Illinois says:

Boy Julie, this sure reminds me or our son growing up … his childlike receptivity to God’s good thoughts that were just wholesome ideas voicing fun, and my frustration as a new mom with not listening for those thoughts myself. But we made progress and I learned that the mustard seed of a good thought from its spiritual source in God could instantly remove what felt like mountains of anxiety and frustration from off my shoulders leaving me with many happy memories of fun shared with our son.

Thanks so much for this wonderful Lift.

113. Elizabeth B says:

One day late with my thanks – Yes, let’s have some fun – so much needed – thank u very much for this lovely uplifting msg

114. Michael says:

Just an after-thought:

We chuckle when we think of someone going through their “second childhood” or Peter Pan who “never grew up”. Yet remember that Jesus told Nicodemus, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”…“Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God”. (John 3)

Certainly these Daily Lifts are a vehicle to help us refresh our thoughts, to be borne up or able to float “o’er earth’s troubled, angry sea” (Hymn 253). This spiritual wisdom and knowledge loose us from our entanglements or wrappings of a material tomb into rebirth and regeneration of thought.

We need to get back to the basics more often. I remember Sunday School was FUN, So perhaps a good recommendation is to talk to a Sunday School teacher about the basics these little ones are first taught, the simple truths of God and His love which sustains them for a lifetime.

Read Science and Health again and this time look for the fundamentals. After all, this is not Rocket Science, but Rock Science, built on a hill and secure foundation which cannot be hid or shaken.

115. Carol says:

Wow! Out of the mouths of babes, for sure!

116. Deb Aupperle says:

Thank you Julie.

117. Bev Shedd says:

Thank you Julie and all of the responders. It’s 8:30PM and I have been coming back and back and back all day to hear this Lift again and re-read the comments and smile as I noted and read the additional comments each time. Is the blank Email box for my edress? I’ll insert it because I had better listen to and heed it my self which I put together years ago when I got my first computer. Yes, be joyous 2. OK! and I will certainly add FUN, too. I always thought that I had to get everything done first before I could have fun. Today I learned fun is one of God’s qualities and I reflect Him/Her all the time. I also learned long ago as a full time administrative secretary that my ‘in-basket’ is never empty. We all learned in Genesis that God completed His/Her work in seven days, and behold it (is) was very good. We reflect that completeness and it’s time to have a day of good fun always and all ways. Thanks for a fun day everyone, and all your tomorrows, too. Lovingly, Bev
