3/3: What’s really going on

Thank you Susie, thank you, TMC for the great idea of this Daily Lifts, each one is better than the previous one.
When somebody asks me, how do I pray, I tend to explain that my prayer consist not on asking but on listening. What wouldn’t God know? “Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.” (Mat 6:8) I used to pray, I mean repeat, wise, sacred and holy words, although repeating never brought me results it was the only way of praying I knew. Until I began studying Christian Science I never realized that I was repeating those words as they were “magical” words. I always expecting a miracle to come from those words, but although I pray this way for years I never had a miracle. One day I came across MBE’s words, “In order to pray aright, we must enter into the closet and shut the door. We must close the lips and silence the material senses. In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must deny sin and plead God’s allness” (S&H 15:14).
Now when I pray, first I make clear in my thought, who am I in relation to God, and second I try to listen for His voice. I usually do this many times throughout the day and also at night before going to sleep. I don’t always hear an answer right away but I am confident I will hear it.

Lately God’s communication has been coming in the morning as I am about to wake up. I hear a word or a sentence, (not always clear) as the ending of a dream right before I open my eyes. It’s been so often lately that now I recognize it as some sort of a message. Yesterday’s message was very clear, I heard a voice saying, “I already heard it”. This semi awake dream used to puzzled me for weeks, but today the answer came clear! It is not just a part of an unfinished dream as I thought, it was really God’s answer to my prayers. Finally I got it. ”Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not”. (Jer 33L3). Now I don’t expect miracles because I know that God hears every prayer.

Cuándo alguien me pregunta, cómo oro, tiendo a explicar que mi oración no consiste en pedir sino en escuchar. ¿Qué es lo que no sabe Dios? “No os hagáis, pues, semejantes á ellos; porque vuestro Padre sabe de qué cosas tenéis necesidad, antes que vosotros le pidáis” (Mateo 6:8) Yo solía rezar, es decir, repetir palabras sabias, sagradas y santas, aunque repetir nunca me trajo resultados esa era la única manera de rezar que conocía. Hasta que comenzé a estudiar la Ciencia Cristiana nunca me di cuenta que yo repetía esas palabras como si fueran palabras “mágicas”. Siempre esperé que un milagro viniera de esas palabras, pero pese a que rezé así por aňos nunca tuve un milagro. Un día encontré las palabras de MBE, “Para orar como se debe, hay que entrar en el aposento y cerrar la puerta. Tenemos que cerrar los labios y silenciar los sentidos materiales. En el santuario tranquilo de aspiraciones sinceras, tenemos que negar el pecado y afirmar que Dios es Todo. (CyS 15:15)
Ahora cuando oro, primero aclaro en mi pensamiento, quién soy yo en relación con Dios, y segundo, trato de escuchar Su voz. Generalmente hago esto muchas veces durante el día y también de noche antes que dormir. No siempre oigo la respuesta en seguida pero tengo la confianza que sí voy a oirla..
Ultimamente la comunicación de Dios está viniendo por la mañana cuando estoy a punto de despertarme. Oigo una palabra o una oración (no siempre claramente) como la conclusión de un sueño justo antes de abrir mis ojos. Ha sido tan a menudo últimamente que ahora lo reconozco como alguna clase de mensaje. El mensaje de ayer era bien claro, oí una voz diciéndo, “Yo ya lo oí”. ¡Este sueño, medio despierta, me desconcertó por semanas, pero la respuesta de hoy vino clarita. No era solo parte de un sueño sin terminar como pensé, era realmente la respuesta de Dios a mis oraciones. Finalmente lo comprendí. “Clama á mí, y te responderé, y te enseñaré cosas grandes y dificultosas que tú no sabes (Jeremías 33:3). Ahora ya no espero milagros, pues se que Dios oye cada oración.

Thanks Susie for your inspiring ideas! These guided me to the Chapter “Prayer” in Science and Health where it says “In order to pray aright, we must enter into the closet and shut the door. We must close the lilps and silence the material senses” (15:14-16) Referring to the earthquake in our brother country, I think we have to turn off the TV and other media, close the door to the scenes of devastation and chaos, and open it to God as “a very present help in trouble” because ” the world of error is ignorant of the world of Truth, -blind to the reality of man’s existence,- for the world of sensation is not cognizant of life in Soul, not in body.” (13:29-32)

Thanks for both lifts yesterday and today connecting us to a different view than the common media. What would happen if we all, the spiritual thinkers, the spiritual army of thinkers, what would happen if we all went into our closets and shut our doors,our lips mute, materialism silent and we listened, truly listened, genuinely, honestly strained our secret ears and eyes to hear what the Great Source is communicating each moment of the day? When it’s least likely we were capable of listening. What would we hear? How would that reverberate around the world? How would that sweep us up and carry us away? How would that effect our neighbor, our world neighbor? Would a transformation occur so powerful all would have to drop what they’re doing and listen? Saul had that, Elisha and Elijah had that. Can’t we have that? Can’t the world have that? Nothing is impossible to the spiritual thinkers.

Elena, Ma. Fernanda, you are both so right. Quiet listening is so important. From that quiet place, so many answers come. For me, sometimes questions come too, followed by related inspiration. This question, “What’s going on?” came in prayer, followed by this process: “Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul.” (Science and Health, p.269) Right there where things or objects (buildings, cars, boats) have been smashed, God’s ideas, the beautiful, harmonious, indestructible spiritual ideas of Soul, are in tact, functioning, and safe. Love, purity, spiritual joy, and grace are present to comfort, heal, and replace any feeling of loss with an uplifting recognition of spiritual abundance and calm. Knowing this has been very helpful for me, and I’m so grateful for everyone who has shared what has been helpful for them. Together, we are all helping each other.

I appreciate your question about these recent earthquakes, “What’s going on?” and the statement “God doesn’t create catastrophes”. Mrs. Eddy reinforces this fact in S&H 259:25 “Vibration is not intelligence; hence it is not a creator. Immortal ideas, pure, perfect, and enduring, are transmitted by the divine Mind through divine Science, which corrects error with truth and demands spiritual thoughts, divine concepts, to the end that they may produce harmonious results.

Today we need to focus on the results that can be achieved by the correction of error through the spiritualization of our thoughts about this area and His children. The harmonious results should be no less astounding than the error it reverses.

Thanks for your ideas on praying effectively for yet another disaster zone in Chile. We can’t be there in person, nor in Haiti, nor in China where rescuers are trying to save trapped miners.

and they can hear it, and be guided safely.

This is a very profound statement: “What is really going on”? It’s a “wake-up call” to fine tune one’s thoughts to the REALITY of all things.

Right in the middle of the fiery furnace with the three Hebrew boys, right there the dear Christ was assuring them they had never left their Father’s care. Right in the middle of the lion’s den, Daniel felt the presence of God and was unafraid knowing he was safe. John sitting in the pot of boiling oil all the while singing praises to God knowing he shared Love’s, God’s protection….

The “still small voice”…declaring (making known) the REALITY.

S & H 293:21-31

“There is no vapid fury of mortal mind — expressed in
earthquake, wind, wave, lightning, fire, bestial ferocity — and this so-called mind is self-destroyed.

The manifestations of evil, which COUNTERFEIT
divine justice, are called in the Scriptures, “The anger
of the Lord.” IN REALITY, they show the self-destruction of error or matter and point to matter’s opposite, the strength and permanency of Spirit. Christian Science brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal harmony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil.”

In praying for the Haitians/Chileans, I was reminded immediately with what Ps. 107:29 says: “He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.” Specific to Chile whose 500 mph tsunami heading towards the HI islands and the Pacific region. So instead of watching the tube, I started praying to know that God who created everything and is very good, cannot possibly have assortments of disasters. Prayer is powerful ..that’s the unshakable truth…it truly lights the candle of hope. For this I am eternally grateful to our Father-Mother God for everything.

To nullify the constant claims of error (A.M.) for ourselves and the world is so important. Are we seeing Chile and Haiti as victims and poor losers? Or are we maintaining man’s true likeness to the Father? Are we succumbing to the world’s view and making a reality out of error? Sobering thoughts….but as Christian Scientists we know that error has no entity, therefore no power to destroy life or property—-”God was not in the earthquake….” ! Our prayers CAN reverse these claims and reinstate harmony….

Thank you, Susie, for centering on our real daily need. Yesterday, I mentioned (#58) the spiritual basics of earth’s foundation from creation and with no harmful results to man. Later, I realized I wasn’t handling something trying to contribute to the constant news of disasters like Chili, & Haiti, quake near Japan, fires, as well as distressing extremes of weather affecting so many. It seems animal magnetism is trying to sell us “copy cat victim”same as it sells copycat crimes. People hear of such problems somewhere, and like a contagion, severe problems, more or less worse, seems to hopscotch around the globe like an unseen tsunami, slamming somewhere with extreme drought, floods, mudslides, ice storms, no heat, earthquakes, etc. Headlines scream “the worst ever “this”, the 2nd worst “that” on record. Treating the claim of contagion, can help stop the world-wide mortal fascination and fear of disaster and hardship. What really is going on is the opposite of these claims. Our lifts’ “ounce of prevention” is worth more than a world’s “pound of cure”. Each listener sends a light against existing dark claims, and those error would send next (if it could). These carry spiritual force (a great light) of one together with Soul, the now of eternal Mind. We can stand firmly on what truly is going on – God’s rich unfolding of glory and blessings.

Thanks so much to all of you for your prayers – they touch me and everyone too! I’ve been thinking a bit about how to prevent problems that seem huge, instead of just responding to them or feeling intimidated by them. This involves the idea of defense, not against God or a power contrary to Him, but in the way that Eddy describes in _Pulpit and Press:_

[Jesus] said: “The kingdom of God is within you.” Know, then, that you possess sovereign power to think and act rightly, and that nothing can dispossess you of this heritage and trespass on Love. If you maintain this position, who or what can cause you to sin or suffer? Our surety is in our confidence that we are indeed dwellers in Truth and Love, man’s eternal mansion. Such a heavenly assurance ends all warfare, and bids tumult cease, for the good fight we have waged is over, and divine Love gives us the true sense of victory. “They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Thy house; and Thou shalt make them drink of the river of Thy pleasures.”

Perchance some one of you may say, “The evidence of spiritual verity in me is so small that I am afraid… Jesus said, “Be not afraid”!

6 I’ll tarry in the sky.’”

Is not a man metaphysically and mathematically number one, a unit, and therefore whole number, governed and protected by his divine Principle, God? You have simply to preserve a scientific, positive sense of unity with your divine source, and daily demonstrate this. Then you will find that one is as important a factor as duodecillions in being and doing right, and thus demonstrating deific Principle. A dewdrop reflects the sun. Each of Christ’s little ones reflects the infinite One, and therefore is the seer’s declaration true, that “one on God’s side is a majority.”
