The poem by Julia Karr that Maryl mentions in today’s Daily Lift was published in the February 19, 2001 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel on page 11.
ESSENCE
Be still,
and know
that I am
God.*
Be still,
and know
that I AM.
Be still,
And know.
Be still.
Be.
* Psalm 46:10 (to colon)
2. Dean in Silver Spring Says:
Got it:
Be still and know that I am God.
Be still and know that I am.
Be still.
Be.
(Getting over my “do” addiction; moving to “be.” So, …, thanks for the impetus.)
Oh, and I do pay attention to the copyright innovations.
3. di-vanc Says:
So many times it has been the still small voice that has led me right to the place I was trying earnestly to find or has lead me through an uncomfortable situation to safety.
It was the still small voice that shared with me many healing messages, for myself and others. It was the still small voice that touched my heart in a moment of deep grief and I felt Love’s presence.
It is the still small voice that gently leads me step by step through very hectic days filled with emergency calls and e mails asking for prayerful support and reveals to me what I am to know and share.
It is the still small voice that says in Isaiah 30:21… And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
I’m listening, dear Father.
4. Annette from Berlin Says:
Thank you, dear Mary!!! Be still – and “be” are so related. It is so true, what I learned in class instruction:
“True listening is yielding to true unfoldment”.
Very grateful for this reminder! Nothing but love!
5. Anne d’Ambra from France Says:
Bonjour Maryl

Thank you again

Love the poem! Being doesn’t require as much doing as listening. Then the doing gets more satisfying and more effective. Thanks, Maryl.
8. Kuteesa, Jackson Says:
Thanks so much Maryl.
9. Gary – Nanaimo Says:
Hi Maryl. Thanks for that great poem. I have found it also works in reverse, starting with Be still (to mortal sense).
10. Tyke Says:
Thanks Maryl
It’s a joy daily to still being still with and for God. If I can be as still as possible I might be able to hear God whispering to me, singing to me and loving me out loud!
And you as God’s sweet expression have shared this inspiring message today! Many thanks.
11. Betty Says:
Thank you Maryl.
12. Virginia Says:
Thank you, just what I needed. Knowing which direction to do first and save retracing steps to accomplish more in the day moment by moment with peace.
13. Tien from Royal Oak, Michigan Says:
In the wee hours of this night I just can’t express my gratitude enough for this LIFT. Yes, I will remember this one always! What a wonderful way to get the powerful and comforting impact of this familiar quote… a message from Truth. I will let these busy thoughts go…and rest in Love’s BEing and mine. Thank you so much.
14. marcia Says:

20. Tracy C-K Says:
Am listening to this before bed early Friday morning and am especially grateful for this “be still” message. I know it will help me let go of my busy day and evening to rest in God’s stillness and peace. In a few hours I return to jury duty to deliberate a case and I know this Lift will be very helpful then, too. Thank you.

27. Joan Says:
Thank you, Maryl. I just love this simple way to get closer to hearing what God is saying to me. The Sunday school children will have no problem learning the words to the poem. “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10) is also in a hymn that reads in part,
“The Lord is in His holy place,
Let all the earth be still,
Be still and know that He is God,
And wait to do His will.”
[Christian Science Hymnal, Hymn 332]
28. christine in England Says:
How lovely. Thank you.
29. Sher Says:
Thanks for the reminder. My lips are sealed. I’m listening.
30. Pat from McCaysville, GA Says:
Interesting how the Still Small Voice can overpower the screaming voice of the material senses and the world. Another one of those “Miracles”!!!!
31. Malcolm Drummond, Henrietta NY Says:
Thank you Maryl, and there will be Peace!

The “Daily Lift” is the first thing that I listen to each morning. It is an incredible gift to us all. Today’s, especially, was so important, so simple, so natural, so loving. Thank you!
33. Nena Says:
Thank you Maryl for this wonderful and powerful message. It is just what I needed. I do not need to listen to the noise of mortal mind.
34. Lari Says:
thanks for the poem, a good idea for starting the day.
35. Diane Says:
Thank you indeed! As you read the poem, urgent items on the agenda of myself or of the world just fell right into place, quietly, obediently, peacefully, and in the sense of true worship of our dear Fathering Mothering God. It reinforces this week’s Bible Lesson as well.
36. James in Pennsylvania Says:
Thank you Maryl for reminding us that being is primary while thinking and acting are secondary. A still, quiet, purring pet cat can show us the way sometimes!
37. Maryl Says:
I love reading all your comments. I too find the daily lifts from my fellow lecturers wonderfully uplifting and inspiring.
Jesus taught that when we ask, we receive. Getting the false sense of ego quiet and then listening for the angels guarantees an answer.
Blessings to all of you.
38. Cindy Says:
Thanks for the wonderful reminder, Maryl! In line with being still, there is a great Journal article (August 1996) by Channing Walker entitled Quiet in the rush of life – well worth looking up!
39. Jane G Says:
Today’s Lift reminded me of this poem by Kathryn B. Barnes which was also published in the Christian Science Sentinel some years ago. It hangs behind my computer where I can see it as I work. As a result, I have read it more often than any other poem in my life and its message STILL speaks to me every time.
STILL
Nothing can disturb
man’s calm reflection
of God’s perfection.
Pressing demands?
Events unplanned?
Still.
I’m not worried,
not hurried,
with every step
in pace
with God’s grace.
By Kathryn B. Barnes [Christian Science Sentinel, February 1, 1999, page 13]
40. Joan Says:

Thanks, Maryl. Being still is all. Love to everyone.
44. Kathy M. Says:
thank you for the daily lift! I am so grateful to hear of the young teenage girl rescued out of the rubble of Haiti after l5 days. i have worked with the idea “Fed by thy love divine we live, for love alone is life” Knowing that those still in need of rescue are being fed and cared for by our loving Father. this still and quiet thought is what we need in order to see the continuation of good in Haiti . The world needs our quiet prayers and we can be still and listen to what God has to say to us in order to help.
45. tenney Says:
GOODNESS! wHAT A POWERFUL MESSAGE! I love the poem. Please put the Author’s name in writing along with the poem; I want to put this poem in our Reader’s rooms as inspiration before going out on the platform; besides passing it on to others. Gloriour Gratitude
46. cher Says:
Thank you so much.
47. Lorraine in Dayton, Ohio Says:
You’re right, Meryl. I have it memorized with just one hearing and it becomes more powerful with each repeating.
It really doesn’t take any tremendous effort to “Be” but it does take a yielding to what is already established by divine Mind. I thank you and Ms. Carr for this timely and helpful “Lift” for today. All the love of Love, Lorrie
48. Peggy w Says:
Maryl, I always love your helpful “lifts”…this one particularly.
Many thanks.
49. Anonymous Says:
Thanks for the lift and comments.
For that Bible verse from Psalms 46:10 the Amplified Bible says, “Let be and be still and know(recognize and understand) that I am God:”
The translation from The Message is “Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your high God, above politics, above everything.”
In a poem Mary Baker Eddy writes, “…Truth infinite so far above all mortal strife..
50. Mary H Says:
Thank you, Just what I needed to remember this morning and know that God is in control, God governs, and we are God protected.
51. John in Columbia Says:
Thank you for this thought. It certainly brings to mind the essence of Adam Dickey’s article “God’s Law of Adjustment.” He quotes the Bible verse from II Chronicles, “Stand ye still.” And if we look up “stand still” we find that wisdom repeated several times in the King James version. To me it is saying that we are not just “doing nothing.” We are standing…trusting in a strong foundation (our understanding) and “…seeing the salvation of our Lord…”
52. Sammie in Texas Says:
Thank you Maryl for your inspiring lift for today. What a message! And thank you all for your comments as well. I must now go and be still.
53. Robin from Chehalis Says:
Such a helpful thought…thank you!
54. Brad from Houston Says:
Thanks for alerting me to that beautiful poem!
55. S.A Says:
I love the thought “be still”. It is vital to really listening. Thank you!
56. Carla Says:
Thank you so very much! Although that verse is well used, the poem you shared will enhance my thought of it continually and I am so grateful to you for sharing it! I could just feel the presence of divine Love blanketing the world as you read the poem. I am reminded of my Mom’s advise to us frequently as children. She would tell us to stop at the door before leaving the house every morning to quiet our thought let God go first, then we will have the right path all day. It has stayed with me all my life and been a wonderful blessing. I love the idea of God’s gentle authority guiding all right activity.
57. patty Says:
Be still and know that I am God. How I love this statement! A few years ago my son came home from high school, quite upset that one of his teachers had said something really unkind to him. I was a bit shocked and upset and immediately sat down to send her an email. Something stopped me and I decided then and there to pray about it. But I couldn’t think of anything…I was feeling pretty “unkind” towards her. As I crawled into bed this statement popped into my head and I decided to go with it. I knew I needed to get still and KNOW….KNOW that I am God. WOW! I felt overwhelmed with the hugeness of God’s presence, God’s government in every situation, even those in a classroom. I knew this situation was not out of his control. I heard the words “love her” and I did. That was the end of the trouble in the classroom. My son asked me the next morning if I had heard back from her (he thought I had emailed her) and I said NO, even better. It’s taken care of. She didn’t apologize but that was ok. There was never again a speck of disharmony in the class and I spoke with her many times about other issues.
Thank you for these powerful, daily lifts!
58. Anne S., Nova Scotia Says:
Thank you so much for sharing the poem of distilling this bible verse right down to the bare bones of ‘listening’ for God’s direction: to just BE — right now in this present moment.. Yesterday, I could not put my hands on something I required and I couldn’t for the life of me, even think where to begin to look — the origin of how I even came to get this item. After reading the daily bible lesson, I decided to tune into God, to be still and listen for his “Spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give us our daily supplies.” While going about my daily business, I began to find other items that I had lost track of. I was so truly grateful, rejoicing in my care and protection. Forgetting self and the original item I had been searching for earlier, I was led right to it in the most round about way: if I had been humanly outlining, I would never have come upon it! This was confirmation that by trusting, just ‘being’…reaps great reward. I will carry this lovely ‘lift’ with me again today and every day. Bless you Maryl!
59. Rosa from Tn. Says:
Thank you so much for the further enlightment on this statement. It is a favorite of mine. But had never broken it down in the manner that you explained. I shall now use and appreciate it even more in all of its beauty. ” Be still and know that I AM God.”
Be, Be Still, Be Still and Know, Be Still and know that I Am, Be Still and know that I Am God.
60. Jan D from St. Louis Says:
Thanks Maryl…I memorized the poem just as you suggested. Now I’m off to know…be still…just be…
61. Chrissie Brown Says:

63. Jan J – Grass Valley, CA Says:
Thank you so much, Maryl!
I am so grateful for all the wonderful reminders we receive from the Daily Lift. And this simple idea will remain with me throughout the weekend.
64. Marilyn from Maine Says:
Thank you, Maryl. This is so perfect for me right now. Wonderful comments from around the world, as usual. I was reminded of an article in The Christian Science Monitor years ago, one from the CS perspective. The author said how he/she was healed when a practitioner reminded it was “the scientific statement of BEING, not of becoming”. As the writer worked with that idea, thought quieted and life became steadier and calmer.
65. nate Says:
Thank you Julia Karr! I will ALWAYS remember this poem. And, thanks Maryl for pointing this out. It’s a perfect poem for me.
66. Susan Carol Says:
Maryl, I love the poem! It calms and quiets one to get in tune with our Divine Source. I, too feel like the day can be a race, family, study, job,2nd job etc…. but I feel God’s presence and His hand holding me carefully, lovingly. I also liked (47)John’s comments about stand still, trusting in a strong salvation, foundation. I am also reminded of Mrs. Eddy saying .. ‘We are all capable of more than we do.” pg 89 Science and Health. I think she means thinking correctly and not human tasks, blessing and loving more is the key and this is evident when we be still.
67. Carra Riley Williams, AZ Says:
Racing thoughts can be quited by “Be Still and know that I am God” Just Be… the infinite manifestation!
Thanks Julie

The simplicity of the beauty is the crown of any demonstration.
73. Cathy from Oregon Says:
Perfect “lift” into the weekend . . . . merci beaucoup!
74. Cici from Los Angeles Says:
Thanks Maryl for that simple but powerful poem. I too remember that Poem so well from the Sentinel, and it’s so good to be reminded TO BE everything we are as God’s perfect children, because we are after all, pure, perfect, whole and complete right now and are reflecting God, good, the Great I Am!!!. Have a joy-filled day everyone!!!
75. Missy Says:
I have a sign in my office with that very same Bible verse on it. My sister gave it to me. Oh, but how often have I rushed around during the day, forgetting to “be still,” and how often have I chased after “other gods,” instead of honoring and listening to the one “I AM,” the one God! Oh, my! Well, from now on, when I look up at that sign, I will stop and remember the poem you shared with us Maryl — thank you!
76. Ginger Says:
wonderful message – just be and know, God will do the rest
77. Peggy A. Says:
Thanks so much for this stilling reminder.
78. Patti, Naperville IL Says:
What a perfect way to start the day!
79. Paul Marthaler Says:
How much better it is to listen to the divine Mind than to “our own” mortal mind suggestions! Get a grip on peace, and let God direct us/me! Thanks, Maryl for this reminder…
80. Art Says:
It’s important toi listen to God..Thanks for a new tool to that end.
81. CherylR Says:
To dear Marcia #14 — How deep is God’s love for you! His omnipotence and everpresence and goodness is yours and mine and everyone’s by reflection. He guarantees our health and wellbeing by His very nature. These are the real facts of Life! And they give us the authority to deny whatever is unlike God — just as Mrs. Eddy does in these strong statements from Science and Health:
Disease is not an intelligence to dispute the empire of
Mind or to dethrone Mind and take the government into
its own hands. Sickness is not a God-given,
nor a self-constituted material power, which
copes astutely with Mind and finally conquers it. God
never endowed matter with power to disable Life or to
chill harmony with a long and cold night of discord. (378:22)
(Disease powerless is the marginal heading)
“Disease powerless” — that’s wonderful news! With love to you, and thanks to Maryl and today’s team of contributors.
82. Leah Says:
So beautiful and powerful! Thank you!
83. Helena Says:
Thanks very much for this lift. It is a very special one for me. I was reminded of one time when I was in a plane and we were told there was a bomb in the plane. I felt something was wrong before we were told this, so I was praying knowing that God was in complete control of every single thing, of the pilot, of the plane, of all his ideas and all of a sudden; like if someone was talking to me; I heard “BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD” when this happen, all my fear was gone and replaced with love and the complete conviction that God was with us and in complete control. And He really was, we were told that we were going to use the emergency door and we had to move very fast. It was a wonderful opportunity to witness the absolute power and control God has over all. Everyone was in complete calm and we were able to get down so quickly and in absolute harmony. We waited at the airport for a long time. We, then continued with our flight and I remembered how uplifted I felt…how beautiful to see God’s power…THE GREAT IAM and we are able to BE STILL AND LISTEN.
84. Robert Vessels Says:
Thanks. I have been using the synonyms for God with this Ps. For instance “Be still and know that I am God” [Love that inspires, illumines, designates and leads the way] or “Be still and know that I am God” [The unfathomable Mind that is expressed by governing the body in every instance, wholly and supremely] What an adventure this can be. Now you have added another view for me to think about and pray with. It is not a real word but I call these “ponderables”
85. ROB NAGEL Says:
MY CSB TEACHER WOULD ALWAYS SAY TO ME…ROB, SLOW DOWN…, SO THANKS FOR THE REMINDER. THE THRUST OF THE POEM IS TO ‘KNOW’ THAT GOD IS ALL BY SIMPLY BEING STILL; IE, QUIETING THE ANXIETIES OF MORTAL MIND IN ORDER TO ‘BE’ THAT PERFECT REFLECTION OF GOD. THANKS AGAIN, AND SAY ‘HI’ TO CHARLES.
86. Sandy Says:
Thank you so much, Maryl. How beautiful and comforting! The tranquility knowing, I AM, is awesome.
87. Lisa in Alaska Says:
“Be still” was the only thing I heard in one of my first visits to a Wednesday night service in a Christian Science church when the path seemed very rugged. That inspiration brought healing that night, and has stayed with me since.
Thanks, Meryl, it does guarantee an answer!
88. Darlene from California Says:
Thank you for the poems today. They are so good I copied them into a Word doc and saved them to my special Bible study folder. I want to be able to share them with others when the need arises.
I find the comments from everyone very helpful and inspiring, too.
89. Barb from Pennsylvania Says:
Thank you so much for this wonderful message and reminder. I often find myself caught up in the fast pace today with almost too many things to do. The constant e-mails, voice messages, interruptions…all seem to scream “there’s not enough time to do everything”. I like the Bible statement…Forever O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Knowing that if God is settled, then I can be settled as his reflection. I am then free to hear and listen to the still small voice. I find these words so comforting in many situations and immediately feel the sense of freedom from these claims. I love the Daily Lifts and have been sharing them with all my friends! Keep up the wonderful inspirations!
90. Marquita Says:
Today’s Daily Lift is perfect for me. I am well aware of the fact that I tend to worry. Maryl’s poem by Julia Karr will be a great help in dissolving that seeming trait. And so will the poem “Still” submitted by #38 “Jane”. My deep thanks to Maryl and Jane. I’m printing out both poems and will post them by my mirror as helpful reminders each day when I get dressed. I love the Daily Lifts! Thank you all!
91. Shari in FL Says:
So simple, so profound, so necessary! Thank you, Maryl.
92. Faye’s gratitude!! Says:
Thank you, Maryl, and all of you who have added your love to this. What a lovely lift for the whole week-end and beyond!!
93. Cindy H., Virginia Says:
I am reminded that it wasn’t so long ago that the Army had the slogan, “Be all that you can be.” That certainly applies to this situation. Thanks, Maryl.
94. Nancy Says:
This poem has been on my mind since I first read it in the Sentinel. Last month, I decided to use it as the focus of our Sunday School bulletin board to share it’s beautiful message with all. I’m so grateful to see it in the Daily Lift so that even more can be inspired by it. Thank you!
95. ggz Says:
that was nice….really nice..thnx
96. Jan , Co. Springs Says:
Maryl, you’re right, it was easy to remember,,,, I sent the poem to a good friend, not a CS student,,, and she loved it and said, she would live with it today…. Thank you
97. Diana Says:
Gracias Mary esa dulce y serena voz llena de Amor cambio mi vida y la transformo ….estoy muy agradecida.
98. Jean from Duncan Says:
I first read the verse from Psalms set out in a similar way as the poem above, in the April, 2005 Christian Science Journal in an article/testimony by Douglas Dombek. His remarkable healing is truly inspirational and is one I keep in a special file to turn to when I’m in need of an extra lift. Thank you, Maryl, for the reminder.
99. Maria Elvira – Brasil Says:
In 1 Kings 19:11, 12 we read:
“… go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And behold the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and break in peaces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but he Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it…”
So let´s follow Elijah and don´t fear the loud sounds of matter like, sorrow, lack, unsafety, disease, uncertainty, etc. and get silent, so that we can hear the still small voice Of our Lord saying “you´re not alone for you´re My beloved children and I never let you along the way.”
Thank you, Maryl for your inspiration!
“Be still and know that I AM” is what keeps me going on, indeed!!!
100. Penni Livingston Says:
Very cool. Be still and know was one of my favorite lessons I did as a first reader and it was Prin’s theme one year when my youngest attended high school there. What a great prayer in that poem. Thanks for that real daily lift.
101. Ron, Boston Says:
Thank you so much, Maryl. How beautiful and comforting! The tranquility knowing, I AM, is awesome. I’m so grateful to see it. Thank you!
102. J.S. in Ky Says:
This Lift —well, words can’t describe it! I “listened” to the poem as I went to bed in early A.M., and “heard” it all day. It helped me over and over. Thank you, Maryl, for lifting me all day, and still going. Some comments here prompted me to recall a local radio program this fall. I don’t get good reception in a mobile home, so keep the car radio on, just to get the news.(I don’t get TV either). There was a religious program (mostly music), not CS, though. But I had to smile when a man was talking about what God wanted in us, and that he wasn’t impressed with what we “do” all day long in our crowded schedules ( completely different from what James1:22 meant about being doers) , but what we are being (which IS what James was talking about). It paralleled some CS teachings, but not completely. The man was stressing what our hearts, our “character” should be like. Then he said that if what we “do” were the main thing, we’d be called, “human doings”, not “human beings”. He made his point, with humor, even though we reject man as mortal, it’s a useful thought. Thank you to the Moderator for printing this poem for us. Like the lift said, I remembered it right away to “listen” to away from the computer, but it’s nice to have in print so those with dial up (so many in my state) who can’t listen to the lift can feel the stillness.
To Marcia, #14: You’re already in the process of demonstrating healing. Don’t discount your gratitude, that you mentioned. Consider it much more than equal to a dose of medicine, or even surgery! Every genuine grateful thought is prayer that will be answered. Gratitude that is poured out just to get the healing is “doing” (see above in this comment) but gratitude that looks for all our blessings, large & “small”, and that pours out our love of God, and recognizes His love for us is “being”. It makes us ever more aware we are closely cared for and loved by the Father. God rested from His work, Gen.2:2, and when we are still, that puts us at one with Him, to be able to feel, hear, & see His action, for us, (S&H-519:25)
103. claire Shillito Says:
A wonderful daily lift. Thank you. Very much appreciation and gratitude. Perfect for this week’s lesson sermon on Love. Claire
104. Joan Wattam Says:
Thank you, Maryl! I sing this verse from Psalms; it is a constant. Then my second verse tells me ‘I am thy God, that healeth thee’ – repeated, and then ‘In Thee, my God, have I put my trust – repeated. It’s a wonderful way of Be-ing. Thanks again, and much love!
105. Joan Wattam Says:
… And for really going down, deep, into these words, from Psalm 46. It brings all being (focus) into the present, into the Now – the only place we have; the only Bei-ng we are; to the only God there IS – The ‘I AM’ – the ever-constant, who does not change or flap about according to changing circumstances; but who is above all. To the significance of the One, true Voice, to the One that healeth THEE of all thy dis-eases. ‘For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. . .’ (Isaiah 30:15). Thank you again, Maryl, for bringing out these treasures ‘old and new’!
106. carolyn Says:
A much belated thank you – I’m going to try to incorporate those precious words into my daily prayer and meditations. Much appreciation for the folks who send these daily lifts to all …
107. ela Says:
I had been observing a very excited state of mind… mental busy-ness… whirlwinds of thoughts… sometimes fear in the forefront… sometimes fear in the background. At one point, there was a sense of anxiety so intense, I seemed to be paralyzed. I started to pray and I asked for prayer support as well. I felt like the blind man sitting by the side of the road calling out to Jesus and the woman who touched the hem of Christ’s clothing all wrapped up in one. As I listened, I heard a gentle command, get up and go out for a walk. I knew I could do this and I did. As I walked and listened, the mental busy-ness subsided and has not returned. By faith, I was healed. This happened two days ago. I have been enjoying being still…. being…. simply being since. I hadn’t checked into this website for a while and had intended to scan the subjects and pick one to listen to. This one was at the top of the page and I needed to look no further. This is a powerful message and a wonderful blessing.
108. Marylyn Says:
Thank you!
109. Susan D Says:
Love this, thank you.
110. B.J.Paine /Washington Says:
What a perfect reference….that poem in the 2001 Sentinel. I’ll
never forget that way of saying that Bible verse. Bless you, Maryl.
Nathan, is that you playing the guitar as well as announcing the speaker for that day? If so, you are one busyiproducer. Thank you for your way of announcing. You have a “lift” in your voice that starts it all out perfectly.

111. Kylie from England Says:
I just wanted to let you know of a healing that I have had as a direct result of what you shared in this Daily Lift. I had listened to it in the morning and was struck by how beautiful the poem was and then went on about my day. In the small hours of the next morning I woke to find myself in a lot of pain. I got up and went into the bathroom, only to find myself on my knees and doubled up in pain, not able to find any relief. I was praying and working with a different poem, ‘Mother’s Evening Praye’r by Mary Baker Eddy, however, before I had reached the end of that poem, the thought came to me to think about that day’s Daily LIft, which was this one. Immediately the poem came to me. I silently recited the poem, letting the truth of each line and the underlying message permeate my thought. By the time I had reached the end of the poem, and it didn’t take long(!), I was completely free of the pain and returned to bed completely healed. Thank you so much for sharing this. As you said, you only need to hear it once, and in this case, not only to remember it, but also to be healed by it’s message. Thank you , thank you, thank you.
112. Teresa Cristina Says:
Thak you Mary! So simple but perfect, so confortable and strong. How lovely and kind! Thanks here in Brazil for you and your family!
113. Robiny Says:
I love the poem you shared. I feel as though there is a final line to that poem that is without the “Be”, and is merely silence. It is as though each step is a simpler, more concise way to listen to God.
114. Mary E. Says:
How very small the world is! As I was glancing thru the comments made by others and reaching the bottom of the list (mid-morning here in Missouri)
I’m thinking what a strong and simple statement that very small poem made and was going to write something to that effect when I saw the comment that Teresa from Brazil wrote—almost word for word what I was going to write!!!! Soooo “ditto”. Thanks Teresa and all, especially Maryl with sharing that perfect thought—”slow down and BE”. God Bless.
Mary E.
115. Mew (UK) Says:
Maryl – THANK YOU. I have written more about this after Marta Greenwood’s Daily Lift, ‘Let Go.’ Yesterday I had found myself unable to move freely for several ‘waiting’ hours until family returned to help, but I was in the company of our little cockatiel who every so often reassuringly told me that I was ‘alright’ and asked if I wanted a drink. This situation arose not long after I had listened again to you and heard that oh-so-memorable poem, and then Marta’s tale of ‘her’ family of garden birds. I had also, inadvertently, and coincidentally, clicked on your video, where you talked of the baby eagle that had been thinking of himself as one of the chickens amongst whom he was living, until he was set free literally and metaphorically – and soared away. I had then heard about Marta’s little birds letting go, and indeed being made to let go, when they fledged. And there, amongst the comments left was Joan Wattam’s contribution, saying, “When we ‘let’ God (and anything else is error), we are allowing Truth to be all that it is, in each situation – and we are soaring with the eagle!” Further to all this, I have in recent years been taking a small stand against the malicious poisoning of eagles (both golden and white-tailed sea eagle varieties) in Scotland. And so, yesterday, my thinking was taken in the general direction of Isa.40:31, ‘But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.’ I was reminded, too, of Betty Jenks’ remark to me once that the only ‘coincidence,’ ever, is spiritual. Thanks to you, then, Maryl, for contributing to the ‘lift’ of the day’s spiritual coincidence that helped me through those ‘waiting hours.’
116. Aspespers Says:

Very grateful for this reminder! Nothing but love!

Am listening to this before bed early Friday morning and am especially grateful for this “be still” message. I know it will help me let go of my busy day and evening to rest in God’s stillness and peace. In a few hours I return to jury duty to deliberate a case and I know this Lift will be very helpful then, too. Thank you.

40. Joan Says:

44. Kathy M. Says:
thank you for the daily lift!

68. Jen Says:
I just loved that way of using this familiar saying!! What a great way to think about it….thank you for your inspired message. It is just what I needed!!
69. CW of Dana Point Says:
Terrific, Julie! I remember reading it and liking it. Thank you for bringing it back.

I love the Be Still daily-lift today! I need to be still to hear God’s voice! I am grateful to you! Thank you all.

Very cool. Be still and know was one of my favorite lessons I did as a first reader and it was Prin’s theme one year when my youngest attended high school there. What a great prayer in that poem. Thanks for that real daily lift.

A much belated thank you – I’m going to try to incorporate those precious words into my daily prayer and meditations. Much appreciation for the folks who send these daily lifts to all …

God Bless.
