1. Martha N. Says:
I love Hymn 174 and think it is such a help. “Like as a Mother, God comforteth His children; Comfort is calm, that bids all tumult cease; Comfort is hope and courage for endeavor; Comfort is love, whose home abides in peace.” We have the Comforter ever with us, as do all those dear people in Haiti. Thank you for this lift.
2. di-vanc Says:
I too am sooooo grateful for each and every healing thought of every contributor and “Lifter”…We are so blessed to have this site, not only to share but to stay united in prayer-filled thought which is spiritual power.
“The “still, small voice” of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe’s remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, “as when a lion roareth.” It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear.” S & H pg 559:8-12
As Lois reminds us, let’s do trust His ever-present care for His children as the divine Mind is showing each of us exactly what to do. “…fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad [lass] where he [she] is.” Gen 21
“Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.”
3. SELINA Says:
Thanks a lot for the prayerful thought line. I know God our Father/Mother is there already and all the necessary things needed are already in place. My thoughts are with each and every child of God everywhere. Another great day filled with love
4. Stephen Says:
Thanks so much for these thoughts. As I heard them, I was just flooded with a sense that it is so much a part of God’s divine order that we experience good, love, health, harmony, and purpose at all times. This is unchangeable.
5. Margaret, Sunshine Coast, Australia Says:
That’s a beautiful prayer, Lois: and the blessings will meet the needs of Haiti and everyone there: those who have been affected, and all those working to overcome the effects.
Christian Scientists everywhere are praying for Haiti, and the renewal and regeneration will be seen as quickly as green follows welcome rain.
6. Cici from Los Angeles Says:
Thank you Lois for that beautiful message. I am so grateful for this ongoing prayerful work specific to Haiti; it is truly uplifting for all mankind. We are so blessed as Christian Scientists that we continue to learn to turn immediately to the spiritual stillness and power of God’s ever-presence. That, as ideas of divine Love, our substance is and always will be indestrutible and spiritual. No catastrophic or disaster can alter the supremacy of God, the Great I Am. For as we know through Science, Love is the all-acting, all-wise, all-encompassing intelligent God. I am reminded that what we most need is spiritual reconstruction, not material, and to know that perfect harmony is constant and the constancy of Truth, is ever present. With much love, and praying without ceasing thought to all!!
7. Laura Huxford Says:
Thank you Daily Lift for staying with Haiti and for the link http://christianscience.com/healing/topics/haiti-earthquake to keep us focussed. We all can do so much.
8. Jan Says:
Thank you for these reassuring Lifts, that remind us that God is right there with our dear neighbors, meeting every need. And here with us, guiding us in our prayers for them.
9. Daisy Says:
Divine Mind is right there and the people of Haiti can feel His love. Thank you, Lois, for your helpful thoughts.
10. Glynn Lewis (UK) Says:
Thank you for this loving reminder that there is one Mind, directing, caring for, and in control of every aspect of our lives, and the lives of the people of Haiti.
11. David Says:
I liked the last part of this lift that talks about God caring for all of his children.
The news articles I have read say that about 3 million people were affected by the earthquake. I disagree. I would put the number somewhere in the billions. I have seen in the past few days how this event has caused me and others to stop, think, and pray. It seems to have affected the thinking of everyone I know in some way or another.
Most of the people I talk to want to know how they can help, which is no doubt very important. But while we are concerned about how we can help Haiti, the opposite question intrigues me: “How is Haiti helping us?” Maybe just in being more appreciative of what we have or having a deeper understanding of what is truly important. I am not only grateful that Haiti is receiving support from every direction, but I am equally grateful to see day by day how Haiti is helping all of us in one way or another.
Without a doubt, I am sure that God is caring for ALL of his children.
12. Annette from Berlin Says:
How great to share this prayer for Haiti with us! A strengthening model. Father-Mother Love is blessing without interruption. There is a constant flow of care and healing. This is the most important help – and if there is one good thing it is the undivided attention now of the world for a country that would have needed and merited our attention already before the earthquake. Here is our chance!
13. J.H.R. Says:
AMEN!
14. joy Says:
Thank you Lois, and John Tyler, and all those who have sent in remarks, for giving us food for thought and prayer. One of my favorite thoughts from SCIENCE AND HEALTH is on p.559: “The “still, small voice” of Truth is, to the human mind, “as when a lion roareth.” It is heard in the desert and in dark places of human fear.” This helps me to know that God’s still, powerful voice is constantly speaking to us all – to those who are praying, to the rescue workers, and to those who are victims of the situation, trapped in “dark places of fear” – comforting, guiding, guarding each one of His precious children, and causing us to be still and listen for His directions. No one, no matter how dire the situation may seem, is outside of the range of His voice.
15. Anonymous Says:
‘God is of purer eyes than to behold evil’, when understood in the light which Christian Science sheds on the Scriptures, reveals reassuringly that the Christ is law, even to this human scene of tragedy; and what God, divine Mind, does not know, must ultimately cease to seem so real, even to the human sense, and in its place, healing. With gratitude Lois, from Nigeria, for your loving prayer, so full of this reassurance of Christ healing.
16. Jan J – Grass Valley, CA Says:
Thank you, Father-Mother God, for already caring for each one of your precious children. Not one can be outside of your sweet loving arms.
17. Anonymous Says:
‘God is of purer eyes than to behold evil’, when understood in the light which Christian Science sheds on the Scriptures, reassuringly reveals that Christ is law, even to the human scene of calamity in Haiti; and what God does not know, must ultimately cease to seem real to the human sense, and in place of tragedy, healing. With gratitude from Nigeria Lois, for your loving prayer for Haiti, and its quiet but strong assurance of Christ healing.
18. r.g.d. Says:
We can choose wisely what practical steps to take as individuals, even as we get out of the way, and seek power and good only from God. Mrs. Eddy reminds us that she would have us already out. (Mis 335).
Thanks Nathan and Lois, together.
19. Gerald Says:
God is not in the earthquake….
I love the story of job, from the bible..
job 42:10, 12
“Also the Lord gave twice us much as he had before”
“So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning”
It reminds me that God is beside you/us, Everything that’s lost is Gain and I assure you it is doubled(^_^)
20. Judy Gordon from West Palm Beach Says:
Yes it’s showing God’s love for those people in Haiti in all the responses they are getting in helping them,,, at this moment ,,
21. Malcolm Drummond, Henrietta NY Says:
Thank you Lois for that prayer. “The divine Mind (divine infinite INTELLIGENCE) is showing each of us, exactly what to do.”
22. Jackson from Brazil Says:
Thanks so much Lois for this prayer! I’d like to share in this public space the Lord’s prayer with spiritual interpretation by Mary Baker Eddy (Science and Health p. 16-17) in 2 languages, English and Spanish. These e-cards were a wonderful gift from Spirituality.com to mankind. English: http://www.spirituality.com/e-cards/lord.jhtml Spanish: http://www.spirituality.com/framework/media/flash/lord_spanish.jhtml
Thank you so much for all comments and all prayers published in all public channel of The Mother Church in its websites!
23. Susie Says:
Lois, thank you so much for sharing your prayers. I love your idea of affirming God’s tender blessing at work in Haiti and everywhere. It is a blessing to cherish the very best in and for everyone in the world. It is a blessing to see how people are commenting here and supporting that idea.
Laura, thanks for that great link! It has a listing of articles and resources provided by the Monitor, the Sentinel, spirituality.com, and the church’s Facebook page. It has a link to the ongoing prayer watch for Haiti on tmcyouth.com. What a blessing to discover all the ways we can pour out love to the world.
As Ezekiel says (34:28): …there shall be showers of blessing.
24. Dean Says:
Thank you Daily Lift, for keeping Haiti in the light. True that, David (13), about this event affecting billions of us, not 3 million. Immense compassion is being called out; I felt it rising again as I listened to “Another prayer for Haiti.” Amen: this prayer is effective, it stands forever, and nothing can block it’s power.
I believe the universe is guided by Principle, God, which is coincident with Love. This earthquake experience challenges me to see through the suffering to that Love. It’s not easy for me to do that.
I can pretend it’s easy by letting it slip from my thought while attending to my personal, little emergencies — a kind of negligence, really. Or, in another kind of negligence, I can say words that are positive-sounding but don’t really match where my heart is. Or, sometimes, for a moment, like now, I can get non-negligent and non-busy at the same time — holding in my thought both compassion for each individual, and realization that each individual, each identity, is defined by its own integrity, by the divine Mind that is its source, not by a life experience, no matter how loud the experience shouts. Maybe this is what it means, “the kingdom of heaven is within you.” Jesus didn’t say, “the kingdom of heaven is within you, except when something really crazy-bad happens.” The integrity of each one of us is intact, always.
Hey, Lois, thanks for your work and for asserting for one Mind, not many minds. I’m blown away by the radical nature of prayer — asserting goodness in the face of what seems so ungood.
Good job.
25. Kuteesa Jackson Says:
Thanks so much.
26. Bev Newsham – Sandpoint, ID Says:
What an opportunity for All of Us (Bankers, Wall Street, etc.) to turn our focus away from accumulating more Money and Excess Material Things and give from our Hearts and Pockets to our Fellow Man all our Love, as well as Monetary Donations!
27. Diane, VA Says:
Amen. Whatever is governed by God is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life. MB Eddy
28. Pat from Arroyo Grande Says:
These wonderful healing thoughts are a reminder of how Mary Baker Eddy said she prayed “I saw the Love of God encircling the universe and I loved with Christllike compassion, everything I saw.”
29. Mary from Maryland Says:
Many of us have “felt” the earth shake beneath our feet, throwing us off balance or have “felt” like we were being swallowed up by an earthquake.
How comforting to know that God is caring for all of his children- for us, for our loved ones, and for the dear Haitians. How wonderful that we all have an opportunity to help through our prayers!
Thank you, Lois.
30. Ruthilary Says:
I love these ideas….thanks… as every spiritual idea we all have releases the pressure of matter and fills thought with buoyancy and hope.
[see S&H168:6 Whatever influence you cast on the side of matter, you take away from Mind, which would otherwise outweigh all else.] let’s all keep knowing ‘Mind always outweighs all else’.
31. Amy Says:
Is there a way to get these daily lifts in print format? My roomate is deaf and is so troubled about the situation in Haiti. The daily lift is just the kind of thing I could offer her. Thanks.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Dear Amy,
We so appreciate your desire to help your roommate. The Daily Lift is not available in print format. However, you are welcome to share with her in written form the ideas that were meaningful to you from any Daily Lift.

32. Lois Carlson Says:
To Stepen #4–”divine order” that’s exactly what we were talking about at the Wednesday night meeting! God’s government is still governing.
33. Freida Says:
It’s so moving to read the loving thoughts we share. Another comforting hymn we have is Hymn 53: “Everlasting arms of Love Are beneath, around, above; God it is who bears us on, His the arm we lean upon.
He our ever-present guide Faithful is, whate’er betide; Gladly then we journey on, With His arm to lean upon.
From earth’s fears and vain alarms Safe in His encircling arms, He will keep us all the way, God, our refuge, strength and stay.”
I’m grateful for every loving thought expressed for all to share, that have shared, and for this wonderful avenue provided by Boston, MA
As stated above, #12 Amy: Now is our chance to give our undivided attention for this country, etc. Thank you.
34. Heidi S Says:
I am indeed grateful for this Lift as well. Prayer is the most powerful agent. I was thinking of this this morning when I tuned into a bit of the Haiti coverage and was hearing from the media that medicine and supplies are so needed or these surviving people will die. It brings me to the understanding that I know, and it is a spiritual understanding. God is the one who is sustaining and maintaining those dear people, not material methods, no matter how much that is what is believed. We are all spiritual beings, and this will never change. I have also been thinking about the fact that God was not in the earthquake, the wind or the fire as the Bible lets us know. But God is found in the still, small voice. That still and small voice of quiet Truth is with each and everyone of those dear people. We all can pray very effectively. I am grateful for this. God is the only power and the only presence. Mrs. Eddy says it so wonderfully: “No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good is supreme.” Misc. writings page 277 ( I think
35. BarbaraTempe AZ Says:
A friends daughter who is working in Haiti has reported that in Haiti there is a great feeling of being loved and cherished. She said the Haitian people are especially cheerful, resilient, kind and she is reporting that Gods love is truly seen and felt and will guide every one forward to a brighter day.
36. Rosa from Tn. Says:
Thank you, Lois, and to our Father/Mother God.
37. Kaye Says:
While watching the Early Show this morning, a guest was interviewed that had come back to America from Haiti. She had been buried under a collapsed building, but was dug out by her co-workers who worked for seven hours to free her. When asked how she felt while waiting to be rescued, she said she didn’t know why, but she was calm the whole time. The prayers of all acknowledging the power and presence of God are affective.
38. Pamela in NY Says:
That’s always what it comes down to, isn’t it? Can’t we trust God to care for His creation? Yes, we can! Thank you for sharing your prayer, Lois. And thanks to you all for contributing this morning to healing for our world. I’m so grateful to add my voice. Much love : )
39. Malissa Says:
Thanks Lois.
This tremendous outpouring of divine Love expressed by individuals and nations through prayer and support is blanketing Haiti right now. God, Love covers everything and everyone and is filling all space right now. “There is, (not might be), a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole.” I am praying to know that there will be no obstruction to the help arriving and that all things will “work together for good” to give the Haitians the comfort and relief they need. I am so grateful for these “daily lifts.” Thank you!
40. Anne S., Nova Scotai Says:
This a wonderful prayer for Haiti and everyone else who is facing material adversity, disease or loss throughout the world. Divine Love is governing us all! Thank you so very much, Lois for reminding us and affirming that God is in control of everything, everywhere…
41. June Mary Says:
jSo true! Thank you, Lois. No wavering…
42. Karen, Santa Fe Says:
Yes, Lois, each of us is being shown exactly what to do. As I sit up in bed at 4:00 A.M. reading and drinking my breakfast smoothie, my thoughts are appying every word of truth to my brothers and sisters in Haiti. As I hear George and Charles singing about HOME, I know that this idea appies to those who have temporarilly lost their homes. As I feed the cat, dog, and birds, I know that God is assisting the workers who come with their own suppiies and much more for thousands of hungry. It is just so good to realize that this f o c u s of world thought on this great need is probably the greatest love those dear people have ever felt. Let’s keep it pouring on, overflowing, abounding, embracing, and healing! Love it!
43. SSV (a still small voice) Says:
Thank you Lois,
I admit I have been wrestling with a personal sense of being inadequate or incapable to meet the needs of those in Haiti which seem to be shouting out for attention. I just didn’t know what I should do next.
I listened to yesterday’s Daily Lift many times, heard the PrayerWatch on the TMCYouth Website, read uplifting articles of God’s ever-presence, but I could not find peace that I was doing anything effective.
I was drawn to many comments in yesterday’s Daily Lift, summed up nicely by # 11 Elena and #34 Cathy who… thought of Elijah. “God is not in the earthquake. God is not in the wind. God is not in the fire. God is in the Still Small Voice (of Truth and Love)… reinforce my prayers for Haiti with the still small voice – … no matter what the human circumstances may scream.
I have been trying to equate the power of the still small voice to the screams of error as if it were an argument and in the ensuing shouting match and the loudest one wins… impossible.
Then your specific comments, paraphrased below, broke the mesmerism:
God’s blessing … is more powerful than anything else going on …, it is continuous… gives courage and clarity to know what Practical steps are needed … Nothing can hide the complete provision of God and the authority needed to act in accord with it. Man doesn’t have a mind of his own distinct from God. All of us have the Mind of God to direct our thoughts, prayer and fortify our resolve. Instead of being overwhelmed by the aftermath… trust God’s ever present care for His children. Divine Mind shows each of us exactly what to do.
Knowing exactly what to do!!! That’s what I needed. Realizing that I am not working alone, but do have an important role to perform, gave me encouragement to get back into the battle. I can add my still small voice to all the others to reverse the seeming overwhelming material sense. Like one of an infinite number of candles that can light the darkness and reveal, not the human picture, but the spiritual facts. It is not the volume (intensity) of sound that makes the difference, but the overwhelming volume (quantity) of Truth and Love that will win the day. We need to make our voices heard continuously.
I listened to the History channel last night and learned that the Haiti Slave Rebellion in 1791, was the only successful slave insurrection in history. It is time, once again, to free this country and its people from material chains and fetters. As we watch these events unfold, I feel certain Haiti and it citizens will be blessed and will be the ones who give us a worthy example of recovering through Divine Love.
44. Donna Says:
Thank you for this wonderful direction in how to pray.
45. Cathy Ann Says:
Thank you for your inspirational perspective this morning! Reading the comments of others in response to your prayer has also been very inspiring! It’s true, as David said, that all of us have been affected by the events unfolding in Haiti. Reminding us that we all need to pray for all mankind as we share the love that binds us together as one!
46. Leah Says:
Thank you so much for this beautiful prayer for the people of Haiti and all of us. Watching the news and seeing the images of chaos and fear was starting to overwhelm me even as I tried to keep my thought in Truth. This loving Daily Lift was very timely, powerful and so beautiful. Thank you!
47. Amy Says:
I just know the Angels of God’s Presence are amongst the people of Haiti. They are whispering the love of God to the scared, sheltering the unsheltered, giving food for thought to the hungry, wiping the tears of the crying, mothering the motherless, binding up the broken hearted, giving Love where there is fear, and giving place and purpose to the displaced. The Angels are there, with their arms open in Grace, welcoming the loved children of God to the presence of the Christ. “And ‘or earths troubled angry sea, I see Christ walk! And come to me and tenderly divinely talk.” …but God was not in the earthquake…
May each person feel this tugging of the heart to reach out in prayer for our brothers and sisters of Haiti, and to everyone around the world, and to ourselves.
48. Sammie in Texas Says:
There are many things I am grateful for and this Lift is one of them. By listening to the Lift and reading the comments, I have learned more about praying and praying better each prayer. It swells my heart to know we all come together to a universal God and that God is hearing our prayers and blessing all His children. Yes! God’s power is moving mountains and His Love is restoring with the ‘beauty of holiness.” Thank you Lois!
49. Mary H Says:
Yes we all know that God is ever present and our love and the Truth that frees us from fear will free the people of Haiti and bless them.
50. Joan, NJ Says:
I heard online a Salvation Army worker in Haiti being interviewed. He could only say we had to pray. We had to pray with the people so they know God is with each and every person out there. I stopped watching and started praying to know that God was taking care of his children. The Daily Lifts have been a continued inspiration.
51. Herb Hamilton in Edmonds Wa Says:
What a “Wake Up Call”…
(and OPPORTUNITY) … the Haiti earthquake experience is for the whole world.
While we take the human footsteps to do our part to help…
we can know that our Father Mother God is always with us …
and knows what (ideas) we have need of before we ask…
and that GOD is (already) … All ACTING…
RIGHT NOW !! !!
Yes this is another chance to practice what Jesus said was the most important commandment of them all…
“to Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, all thy soul, and all thy mind…”
and the second be like unto it… “to Love thy neighbor as thyself”.
52. Kalani from Eugene Says:
At this time, a dear friend is waiting for a child to come to her whom she is adopting from Haiti. A process of two years has been involved, and thee have been many hoops to jump through. The little boy has been found alive in an orphanage where he has lived for his four years of life. Now it appears that the records have been destroyed. Undaunted, she and I are knowing that his place is with her. But more than that, his place is secure in God’s care, as is everyone’s. May we have the courage to turn away from the pictures of death and destruction to know that we cannot fall out of God’s kingdom; it is where we live; it is who we are. With greatest thanks to you, dear Lois, and all who respond to the “lifts.”
53. Vicki Says:
Thank you so much for such a positive declaration of Truth that we know meets the need of everyone involved including us as citizens of the world.
I know this prayer will heal and bless everyone.
54. Cathy from Oregon Says:
This lift and these comments are wonderful. The “still small voice” is ever present . . . . .
55. Stephen Pierce Says:
Thank you. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to be able to pray and contribute at this time when our brothers and sisters need a little help.
I am extremely grateful to know that USA is a noble nation and a nation of action and doing.
For complete restoration of the Nation of Haity:
“Fear not ,O land; be glad that the Lord and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things” Joel 2: 21
“I will restore you to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerwrorm and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you” Joel 2: 25
:
56. Alice, Springdale, Ark. Says:
I feel that all the world is in sync with prayers for Haiti. Wonderful to real all
the above prayers and comments. How grateful I am that I’m sure they all
are effective. Just recently been introduced to Daily Lift and love it; it’s the
best thing yet for our movement, and easy (for unsavvy seniors) to access.
Thank you, Lois, CS Board and our Father-Mother, continually present to
guard and comfort.
57. Mary T., San Diego Says:
This past Wednesday, the readings at our church were on “God-given dominion and power”. That’s exactly what each one of us expresses — no matter who we are or where we are. Divine Love is in control everywhere. My heartfelt gratitude to all the lecturers and Daily Lift-ers for their loving and inspiring contributions.
58. Pril Says:
Thank you Lois. Your simple and clear reminder that God is in charge of his own creation is the breeze that blows away the cobwebs of chaos that would have us stand stunned instead of confidently knowing and implementing the ideas that heal.
59. Maureen from Spearfish Says:
Hearing the Lift and reading the comments posted so far, have deeply stirred me–they are at once a call to action, and a deep comfort. A friend and I get together each week to spend a couple hours studying the Christian Science Bible Lesson together. I’m headed over there now, and feel led to ask her if we can dedicate our prayer and study time to our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
60. Dottie Says:
Thank you, Lois for this helpful and comforting Lift, and for the prayers and comments from all. I am helped knowing that “No power can withstand divine Love.”, as Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health, (page 224). And, “Immortal Mind, governing all, must be acknowleged as supreme in the physical realm, so-called, as well as in the spiritual.” (pg.427 also from Science and Health). To Amy # 31, would it be possible to tape record the Lift and then transcribe it for your friend? I don’t know what the Christian Science Publishing Society Copyright Dept. position is, but you could email them at copyright@csps.com.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
You are welcome to take notes from any Daily Lift and share them with those who are unable to hear the audio podcast. At this time, the Daily Lift is available only in audio format.
61. Marla, from Maryland Says:
Thank you so much for those wonderful ideas, Lois. What came to me this morning is a passage from Science and Health (pg. 52:3): “The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty and glory of infinite Love fill all space. That is enough!” Enough to meet every need and guide every listening, seeking heart. It’s important to recognize that our prayers constitute right activity that supplants all wrong. I so appreciate your strong reminder of that! Much love to all everywhere.
62. Helga Says:
# 11 writes: “…Haiti is helping all of us in one way or another.“ Maybe it will help us to awake and understand more and more the definition of Earth and Man, given in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, recognizing both as the beloved Idea of God – eternal, indestructible, forever at peace.
On page 585:5 we read:
“EARTH. A sphere; a type of eternity and immortality, which are likewise without beginning or end. To material sense, earth is matter; to spiritual sense, it is a compound idea.”
And on page 591:
“MAN. The compound idea of infinite Spirit; the spiritual image and likeness of God; the full representation of Mind.”
As she refers to both earth and man as a compound idea of Spirit it’s also helpful to use the explicit answer to the question “What is men?” on page 475:6 to 576:18 to earth as well.
To pray from the standpoint of God as Good, as All-in-all, we can look through this dream of chaos, sickness and death as not being real and gratefully acknowledging that “… divinity embracing humanity in Life and its demonstration, — reducing to human perception and understanding the Life which is God.” (S&H 561:17)
63. Martha Says:
Hallelujia! And we are all part of that chorus, “since when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” we are there.
64. Martha Says:
Thank you Lois and John (yesterday) for these beautiful prayers for Haiti. It is such a powerful way to give instant help and know that “God is on the field.” My husband is retired from the military and we were discussing ways of physical help such as helicopters, air lifts, getting supplies into Haiti. After hearing the daily lifts and the comments, the thought came: These daily lifts are instant messages..these are our “air lifts!” As Mrs. Eddy mentioned in Science and Health, “the very message, or swift-winged thought,”….”the soft-winged dove descending upon you,” are present now. p.574:
“Think of this, dear reader, for it will lift the sackcloth from your eyes, and you will behold the soft-winged dove descending upon you. The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares.”
I like to think of the angels, Michael and Gabriel, mentioned in the Bible. Mrs. Eddy gives a beautiful explanation of their angelic offices from Rev. xii,7,8 in S&H on p.566:
“The Old Testament assigns to the angels, God’s divine messages, different offices. Michael’s characteristic is spiritual strength…..Gabriel has the more quiet task of imparting a sense of the ever-presence of ministering Love. These angels deliver us from the depths.”
God’s angelic messengers are giving “spritual strength and ever-present Love” to all His beloved children in Haiti and the whole universe, for we are
one Song of harmony.
It is wonderful to be united in prayer with such loving, compassionate comments that are pouring in.
With gratitude, blessings and Love to all!
65. Bonnie Says:
Thank you so very much for those inspired words, Lois. They will be a great help during my day.
66. Sher Says:
How comforting to know we all share in the embracing prayers for our fellow brothers and sisters with the deep desire to help. #42 so well illustrates how we can moment by moment in our daily activities contribute to the demands of the moment even if those demands are thousands of miles away. Prayer never stops at the walls of our house. The infinite Mind and His infinite manifestation are constant and continual transcending all catastrophes, circumstances, cultures, poverties, suppresions. The beauty of this all never leaves the situation where it once was. Transformation is inevitable through this spiritual process. Thanks so much for all the lifts, gratitude expressed and thoughtful thinkers. The time for thinkers is here. We’re a part of it.
67. Karen Says:
I am holding to the Bible’s promise that, “There is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed,” (Matt 10:26) that all are safe in their Father-Mother’s love.
68. Sandy Says:
Thank you so much Lois. The truth that God’s blessing is continuous no matter what the circumstance, is so powerful. All the people in Haiti and everyone in the world are feeling the effect of this strong statement of love. Thank you to all who contribute to these daily lifts.
69. Elizabeth B Says:
Thank you very much. So good to hear that “God s blessings are continuous – comfort that gives courage and the clarity to know what practical steps are needed………” This is exactly what was/is in my prayers , that they find Divine comfort in their hearts. I feel blessed to be able to participate in this marvelous “daily-lift” project and to see that such goodness exists all around us when listening to the daily lifts and reading the comments.
70. deb Says:
As I read some commentary on the situation in Haiti, I am grateful that a friend pointed out some words of Mrs. Eddy’s that can be our prayer…
“Mind revolves on a spiritual axis, and its power is displayed and its presence felt in eternal stillness and immovable Love.” Retrospection and Introspection, p. 88-89
71. Chet Says:
Love-filled lift today Lois – thank you! Hope that everyone knows about the prayer watch at: http://www.tmcyouth.com/prayerwatch. Jesus spoke about prayer “moving mountains.” That’s a powerful image to have in mind as our friends in Haiti face mountains of rubble. I’ve been praying today to know that no one is ever buried or trapped in matter. Jesus’ resurrection proved that Christ, Truth, CAN AND DOES roll the stone away.
72. Merry Ann Says:
Thank you so very much for the quick prayer response that helps us all to keep good uppermost in our thoughts no matter the challenge.
73. Carolyn in California Says:
This statement given to me many years ago by a beloved practitioner has been so helpful in reversing the claim that some of the aid relief is bogged down for one reason or another. May it prove helpful to others:
“The circulation of the Christ, Truth, in human consciousness removes every obstruction, neutralizes all error, and opens the way for perfect action here and now.” Does this not cover the entire scene? NOTHING can impede the ever-present activity of the Christ. Bless everyone throughout the world who is praying. This is power.
74. Jim Says:
All of God’s children are forever at one with Him, and can never for an instant be separated from divine Love. Mrs Eddy states in Science and Health, page 303: ” Spiritual man is the image or idea of God, an idea which cannot be lost nor separated from its divine Principle.” Romans 9, verses 35, 37-39, also bring out the thought of our inseparability from God. Love impels right action, and there can be no obstacles to divne Love. Nothing can prevent the intelligent activity of divine Mind from being made manifest in the efforts of the relief workers and others to provide the needed assistance and supplies to those in need of help. All is under the harmony, order and control of divine Principle. Mrs. also states in Science and Health on page 454:” Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way.” Thank you for today’s Daily Lift, and for the comments shared.
75. Andrea Says:
Thanks, Lois, for the focus on God’s big blessing of courage, clarity, and complete provision for Haiti’s dear people, for all there providing aid, and by those in support around the globe.
76. Carol St. Louis Says:
I feel overwhelmed when I think of the families devastated in Haiti, or when one hears a loved one has been lost to war or accident anywhere.
What has come to me is to declare that God’s ideas are just as alive and
complete, full of love and light now, as they were before the transition called death. I address them by name if I see or know the name, and feel this gives them love, respect and support right where they are in their journeys spiritward. I still get teary, but I grow from reading all the responses and hearing the “Lifts.” Thanks to everyone!
77. Maat Says:
It has been wonderful to look at the events in Haiti and still be able to see beyond the human report to the divine mandate that all is in divine order, that we have a divine oppoprtunity to reflect God as a very present help in time of need, human emergency. In human emergency, it is our spiritual duty to allow God to emerge through us as the arbiter and harbinger of Truth and justice. Haiti has always begged for divine intervention in its affairs. The vacuum created by the earthquake has awakened renewed interest in eliminating poverty and hunger, keeping crime in check, restoring the real government to God, and serving humanity. All who reflect God and demonstrate Christian Science whether professed Christian Scientists or not are fulfilling their Christly office to watch, pray and act based on Mind’s call to action, not human panic and its limited way of resolving conflict and crisis. Mind’s wisdom and our divinity in Christ as heirs of a very present and awesome God prevails. I am glad to have turned the table on panic in my own home right now, in my own thought to see beyond the veils that error would project to cover up the divine need. My prayer is now for the world of the spiritually mighty to go into Haiti whether physically, mentally, prayerfully or metaphysically to do what is divinely required to restore order and prosperity and sustain justice, right thinking and right living in Haiti as we restore the world’s government to its rightful throne. The real man will know and do what is right and required at this hour. Christ Jesus did not always send his physical presence to help those in need, but always worked spiritually regardless of the need. We, too, must follow in his footsteps and of those left by Mrs. Eddy, the founder. We are capable and equal to the task as we accept our office as heirs.
78. Pamela Osgood Says:
Thanks for all the ideas on how to pray for this dear island nation and its people. I think that another aspect it may be helpful to include in our prayers (given the history of Haiti) is that exploitation and repression are no part of God’s creation. Haiti overthrew slavery in 1804 and in order to be recognized as an independent country had to pay reparations to French slave owners. The US didn’t recognize Haiti until 1862 with the Emancipation Proclamation in the US. Haitians have been working for multinational corporations for pennies an hour.
This is an opportunity for a new and just society to emerge. We can pray to see God’s justice prevail. We can pray to know that no child of God can ever desire to, nor can ever exploit another child of God. We can support true democratic and egalitarian institutions growing up now by supporting every right idea in reconstruction of this dear island nation. Repression never has been and never will be a part of God’s universe. And the people of Haiti deserve to elect what leaders they want. We can be a witness to the uncovering of evil, of repression, opression and injustice and to its replacement with freedom, justice, egalitarianism and supply for all of Haiti’s dear ones.
79. tajud Says:
Dear Lois: Thank you so much for inspiring line:
“The divine Mind is showing each one of us exactly what to do”.
Before hearing this I was at a loss to where to begin to pray for Haiti.
I felt inspired to open my bible and it fell open to Nehemiah 9:20
“Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst”.
Listening to the media I became more tuned into hearing the stories of all the good that is pouring out for Haiti.
In the lesson this week, another line jumped out at me: “Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight”.
Whatever the picture, is it not my duty to focus on the loveliness and not blight?
So grateful for your inspiration to help me begin my day rightly.
80. Candy from California Says:
Thank you so much for the lovely thoughts. I have been working to know that all of the folks in Haiti are held in the loveliness of Love, but I like so much what you had to say about Mind. God is not in the earthquake, wind or fire, and we all are blessed!!!
81. J.S. in Ky Says:
I loved your lift, and the reminder of how effective prayer is. I ‘ve read the 3 days love filled comments concerning Haiti, with awe, love, and joy in what CS has taught us, even though scattered all over the world. I realized that for myself and I suspect for many others, that these 2 days with specific prayer for Haiti, that the Daily Lift is still lifting us on a personal basis, improving our individual daily circumstances, too. Reaching out to help & love others, leaning on hymns, Bible verses, and Mrs. Eddy’s writings, drinking in the message of the lift, and reading what others share from their inspirations, reinforces truths and their applications to what we’re facing in our own lives, which might have gone unnoticed or been “put off” until a better study time. I know this is keeping me more alert, using spiritual truths to correct some of the simplest suggestions of imperfect details in what I have to work with, in conversation ,or I read in the paper. The focus of these last 2 lifts has expanded, but not changed; my thought is still being lifted. Right when I’m willing to put my needs aside to help Haiti, my prayerful thoughts for them isn’t taking away from my daily needs, but just seems to be keeping me that much more alert to any claim that would take away from God, good. It fits with Pg 79, S&H, “Giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us.” That isn’t just donations of money, I’ve found, but covers prayerful work for others. If anything is shaken by earthquake, it would be the claims of error/matter/mortal mind. The louder the scream, the more vulnerable error is to its own destruction. Keeping alert to even little things, daily, we’ll build a stronger wall of prevention against what would be future major claims at home or abroad.
Thank you for the lift, Lois, and again, John, and thanks to all responsible for the Lifts. Thank s to everyone who shared hymns, prayers, citations, viewpoints, links, etc., and most of all the love you can feel that lingers long after the page is closed. There’s enough love and spiritual ideas aloft to embrace and help anyone, anywhere facing personal problems.
82. Priscilla R. Says:
The Bible teaches us that, “One with God is a majority”. That majority of Good is right where God’s ideas, children are. In the face of what looks like disaster, harmony must reign. Why? because God cannot be lessened by any human manifestation, neither can God’s image and likeness be deminished by any human calamity. God, Good cannot be here and not over their. God, Good is everywhere. Holding to this Principle in the face of any “terror” is the duty of every Christian Scientist and brings out the Truth of God’s being or presence, in our daily lives, here and in Haiti.
Already we are seeing a truer sense of unity amongst many nations that have come together immediately to pour out aid and help. We are witnessing an uplifting spirit of brotherhood and the best sense of humanity and compassion between all races. Acts of heroism and selflessness have been witnessed by many even in the comments of the President of Haiti when asked about sleeping out on the ground in front of his palace he did not comment on his own hardships but, instead turned to gratitude for the help his countrymen have already received.
I’m so grateful that the Light of God’s ever presence, purity and practical Love is right where His children are. Courage, strength, health, compassion, patience and peace have to be manifested. Nothing can stop these qualities and many others of our Father-Mother God because the only power there is, is God and His light shines on all, all the time.
Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health that “Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded.” We can all truly witness to the good that has already unfolded in Haiti and will continue no matter what. In this same sentence she writes “The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding,” We can all know too, that as the suggestion of time, so important in all rescue efforts, that “Love and love’s work must fit”.Christian Science Hymn.
We are upholding our brother’s and sister’s humanitarian efforts with our constant prayer’s, seeing only Good being manifested.
The spotlight of Love has been turned on in full to this nation and its wonderful people and we can all continue to witness the good that comes
forward and rejoice that truly our God is a good God. As the negative suggestions and hypnotic claims come to the surface we can meet each one by denial and affirmation of the Good already in place.
Instead of being overwhelmed by the news we can sing and rejoice and “know that He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them.”
83. di-vanc Says:
# 77 Pam…Thank you for the “heads up” in this area. This gives another direction and purpose to our prayers! Governed by Principle, backed by Wisdom, the intelligence, compassion, and love that is being shared in united thought is spiritual power.
These aren’t just isolated, theoretical thoughts that are being shared but humble and deeply felt prayers that reach out and embrace the whole human race. I am very grateful to be a part of and to make my own every prayer each and everyone is sharing.
With Him we shall prevail,
Whatever may assail;
He is our shield and tower,
Almighty is His power;
His kingdom is forever.
verse from hymn 10
84. Phyllis Says:
Thank you Lois for this very comforting reminder.
85. Anonymous Says:
Thank you for this thought that we can all lean into, so comforting…
86. Kathy M. Says:
Dear Moderator, I was trying to find something I had read in Mrs. Eddys writings. Do you know where it is? [see Miscellaneous Writings 335: 21-32] Someone asked her what they should do if they were caught inside a house that was on fire? She said she would have them outside that house. I know that is not the complete passage, but I was thinking that mentally we can see that man is not inside or underneath the rubble of destruction, but rather safe and sheltered in God’s safe embrace, always outside any destruction and inside His loving arms.Kathy from Olympia
87. Anne Says:
Thank you, Lois! Your words make lots of sense!
88. Nena Says:
Gods’ Children are never out of his Kingdom, Love,Truth and life governs His Universe nothing else, always intact, always in his wings of love. So our brothers and sisters in Haiti are all in Gods care. He is incharged not us. I love to say the Scientific Statement of being where it says, ” There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is all in all. Spirit is immortal Truth; Matter is mortal error.Spirit is the real and eternal;matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual.” Since all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation where then can we say otherwise. We can look away from what the mortals claim as earthquakes that can damage or kill but we can only claim our true being as Gods creation as still perfect and intact. Love, Mind conquers all. We love you all our family in Haiti. Thank Lois for your prayers.
89. CW of Dana Point Says:
Martha in comment #1 kicked off comments with a beautiful winning Truth. I have never seen so many comments about the Daily Lift. Thank you Lois and thank you all.
90. Tracy C-K Says:
Wonderful! The Lift & the comments. Thank you. I am looking forward to spending more time with them over the weekend. This morning I got to read our Bible Lesson on “Life” out loud and play yesterday’s & today’s Lift for my residents at a Christian Science Nursing facility where I work. I also told them about the inspiring prayer-filled comments from all over the world. It was so full-filling to engage them in this powerful prayer-fest!
91. J.S. in Ky Says:
Late Friday, There was news of more than one “unexpected” rescue in Haiti. I hadn’t clicked on most news, preferring to hold to Truth and my prayers, as well as the glorious sharing in the past 3 days’ lifts. This seemed worth reading. I saw evidence of the very truths voiced on these lifts, including one woman believed dead, but the bearers felt she deserved more. Finally examined, she was alive! Whether they labeled it or not, it was CS in action. Death was denied in their thinking. Farther down, I read something needing immediate attention. That’s why I’m writing. It said lack of water was sure to have an adverse effect on those still waiting for rescue. Without water, already there was little hope. Two answers came to me. One, in this week’s lesson-sermon’s Responsive reading, Jesus says, “..he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35) I know he wasn’t talking about a glass of water, but that needs would be met, unfulfilled longings for righteousness, would be resolved. I know there are many believers in Haiti. So I prayed to know that news prediction “wouldn’t hold water”! Second, what about those who are unbelievers? I think everyone participating in the Daily Lift, including commenters, have been doing what Mrs. Eddy directed: “Millions of unprejudiced minds-simple seekers for Truth, weary wanders, athirst in the desert- are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water, in Christ’s name, and never fear the consequences.”(S&H 570:14). Such cups of water have been pouring from the 3 days’ pages of comments, and the 2 daily lifts since the earthquake. It’s pouring from links shared, the Monitor, and other CS websites, as well as from prayerful thoughts of uncountable others everywhere. This spiritual, life giving water will reach those in need.
Soon after my husband & I found CS, we got a call saying his mother, in another state, had a heart attack. As he drove, I read CS pamphlets to him, and was convinced of the truth, until we entered the hospital. It all drained away! Only one visitor at a time could be taken into the intensive care room. While I waited, I tried to regain the conviction of what I knew was really true. Then I read the formidable sign over the door that said “Absolutely no admittance”. That did it! I realized no door could keep the Christ out. Soon I talked to her, sharing truths. She said tests determined she definitely had the attack, but they were waiting results from other tests to determine how much damage was done. Those came back showing no heart attack had taken place. They couldn’t explain it. No pile of concrete, stone, or other weight can stop the Christ, with its living water in Haiti while they await machines or other help. And while we continue our prayers, coming from everywhere and wrapping around the world, we can know they are so purely in recognition of God’s infinite power, that other locations on the globe are protected, too.
92. Ogom Says:
Thanks Lois for this heartwarming talk. Mrs Eddy tells us that “nothing can interfere with the harmony of being–”, and as you noted, the Father Mother God’s blessing is continuous and nothing can hide the complete provision of God. Let us rise in the strength of spirit and acknowledge God’s blessing as being more powerful than any adversity or disaster. That is the prayer of the moment. God bless you, Lois.
93. Andrea Says:
At one time I thought of myself as a reasonably good Christian Scientist, and I am still a card-carrying member. At this point I find myself demanding and expecting more of myself in terms of “getting”, really understanding, what is, and what is not, behind the soothing and pretty words and arguments of C.S. When I hear and see phrases such as: God’s continuous blessings to his / her children; nothing can hide God’s complete care and provision; ever-present care; like as a Mother; another great day filled with love; God’s divine order that expresses only good for his children; ETC., I honestly only feel that there is a mind-boggling disconnect between what these words convey and what most of humanity experience. Everyone’s own search for Truth must grapple with this and come up with answers. Healing, when it happens, is a big contribution to understanding a possible spiritual dimension. What does not help is a continuous flow of mere words that voice ideas that are in stark contradiction to the raw suffering of a multitude in the world. These ideas presented here in this insider blog may be true; I hope they are. I think that the way of “talking” and conceptualizing about God needs a radical overhaul. One way to start might be to stop voicing anything about “reality” that you actually don’t see. If it is not demonstrated “out there” , maybe it hasn’t been understood / demonstrated “in us” either. The old tradition of thinking and talking about “God” as a person, be it father or mother ever so kind, and we as “his” protected and loved children needs to meet the 21st century. I still believe that C.S. may contain the nitty-gritty of reality; let’s put some real light on the subject.
94. Maria Elvira – Brasil Says:
Thank you very much, Louis for your effective and loving prayer!
For sure it helps me and those who´s having the opportunity to tune in it through this Daily Lift program as well.
On the other hand I feel sorry for those who´s still struggling with the possibility to perceive or not God´s kingdom amidst all this bizarre and unthinkable situation!
I think our focus now must be to see the other side of the situation, no matter how terrible it may seem for instance, what we are witnessing throughout the world with all that aid arriving from everywhere bringing comfort to people over there.
I must confess that my heart is completely moved by the prompt and intense movement around the whole world to bring the necessary material aid to Haiti people. This is God in action!!!
Since I can´t see a way to give this kind of help I, as a Christian Scientic surely can use what I´ve been learning from Christian Science such as my acknowledgement that God´s continuously blessing, caring, protecting His/Her children no matter the circunstances are.
This is the only Truth that may dwell in us at this very moment! Let´s hold to this!
These citations from the book of Ecclesiastes 8: 1- 6 make me think and I offer to you all out there to join me and think about too.
Again, thanks a lot, Louis!
95. nancy b Says:
thank you, andrea. as i listened to the “daily lift” today and read through all the inspiring comments, i could not help think that i need to “get it” and apply and demonstrate these “soothing and pretty words” to my own experience.
( as you so aptly put it )”Healing, when it happens, is a big contribution to understanding a possible spiritual dimension. What does not help is a continuous flow of mere words that voice ideas that are in stark contradiction to the raw suffering of a multitude in the world.”
i am sure that enough of us have that daily demonstration of at least some of these TRUTHs and that the flow of God’s goodness to and from Haiti will affect us all in our understanding of the omipresence and omnipotence of God’s LOVE.
96. Lois Carlson Says:
Dear Andrea #91– When revelation speaks of divine Love meeting every need, the human mind kicks back and says ‘what reality is she living?’ and dismisses its relevance. But spiritual sense says ‘how can this be so?’ and seeks the answer.
What rings most true is what #81 (Priscilla) says about courage, strength, health, compassion, patience and peace, unselfishness and heroism. What Priscilla is describing is the true gold of Haiti, and the basis on which the country can move beyond the obstacles it has faced. Every spiritual quality is evidence of the coincidence of the human and divine. In committing to the truths of the Kingdom, it validates the good expressed and helps us rebel against the opposition to goodness.
What I can feel the generosity of the writers on this page is this: the incredible relief of thinking (praying) beyond ourselves. May we all remember this moment when the needs of a developing country sparked a wider view. Andrea’s comments invite us to make sure we do not retreat.
97. Ginny Says:
Dear Lois and all!: It is such a blessing
how those who write and express their loving concern to comfort the people in Haiti and grateful too that Christian Science has been felt by all who support our church all over the world
98. Dee Oates Says:
Having been in Haiti, I have a very special affinity for what has happened and am deeply grateful for the spritual aspect of Lois message. I have been knowing also that this dear country can be only be blessed and encouraged by God’s infinite love and the outpouring of care coming from all over the world.
99. Paul Marthaler Says:
God is ALL; there is no space for error or accident or want. This simple truth, realized and understood heals the multitudes of whatever A.M. would suggest. God, good, is the only reality, the only power, and the only presence in their lives in Haiti—whether they know it or not…..we know it.
100. Herb Hamilton in Edmonds Wa Says:
Thank you so much Lois for your comments #95 on your own Daily Lift of 01/15/10.
You hit the nail right on the head when you said ” remember this moment when the needs of a developing country sparked a wider view”
“Sparked a wider view” was what I was referring to in my comments Herb #51 when I said “What a “Wake Up Call… (and OPPORTUNITY)… the Haiti earthquake experience is for the whole world.”
This is our CHANCE to experience and demonstrate the “incredible RELIEF of thinking (praying ) beyond ourselves.” that you mention.
I think we all want to do our part so bad that we are all in need of relief… from the mortal… false sense of responsibility to do our part to help.
We may feel a sense of helplessness until …
we pray “beyond ourselves” … and GLIMPSE the ever present … One Divine Mind…
that is always present to provide all mankind with the “RIGHT IDEAS ”
at the RIGHT TIME.
101. ggz Says:
thnx 2 all, such warm luminescence….it may seem silly sometimes to cling to just the allness of MIND in liew of complex metaphysical structures….it is hard to keep from tearing up when contemplating such loving thoughts of tender power here and intimate feelings from NPR interviews…still, try this once n u will b hooked on d outcome…when you go to sleep tonight, gently but firmly demand in your thought: “Mind is all; there is nothing else, no matter, no brain, no m.m. personalities or a.m., etc. Mind is all there is”. the healings blossom, the resistance melts away and We r 1
love 2 all – ggz
102. Arthur Says:
I second your remarks Lois. The comments on the DL compel me to deepen my prayers in all respects. I agree with Andrea in the respect that CS is much more than feel-good sayings. What is required is demonstration. Christian Science gives us the tools to demonstrate the spiritual reality of God. Let’s keep praying and we’ll see practical change. Our prayers have an effect.
103. Faye’s gratitude!! Says:
Thank you for that beautiful blessing in thinking of those in need of our love and support. I appreciated reading the wonderful ideas in the comments too. I appreciate everyone turning to God and seeing His Love and support instant. No time or space barrier for Him!! Thank you Lois!!
A very present help in trouble!
104. Oliver Says:
Thanks for this amazing togetherness. ‘12′ gets it right about our real motives. ‘71′ reminds us: no one is trapped in matter. When media tend to emphasize the “race with time”, the Lesson puts ‘time’ in its place, seconded by ‘82′ (commensurate with good). Another aggressive ‘news’ claim we can refuse: that it somehow is understandable when people who experience lack resort to crime. “Do unto others” is the only genuine expression of self-interest.
Waking this morning, two hymns competed for attention: Immortal Love, forever full, forever flowing free, forever shared, forever whole…
Make channels for the streams of Love, where they may broadly run; and Love has overflowing streams to fill them every one.
105. J.S. in Ky Says:
To the Moderator, or Lois Carlson:
I’ve posted 2 comments already, but if my reply to Andrea, # 92 is useful, may I have permission to post this, also? I feel 92 is hungering after righteousness, and is losing a grip on CS, but actually doesn’t want to.
To Andrea, # 92: As a spinner of plant and animal fibers, may I use that as an analogy? The fibers themselves are strong, and animal fibers as a pelt are individually strong, warm, and useful. Spun, however into yarn, they do not require the sacrifice of the animal and can grow more coats for spinning. I specialize in spinning a very fine, strong 2 ply yarn, especially angora rabbit wool, which can be very slippery. A single strand of yarn, has multiple short fibers spun together, staggered along the length so when one end comes, others already are twisted with it to keep a continuous strand going, For weaving, a single strand can be useful, but for clothing that will be knit with elbows, and other stress points, it helps to ply more than 1 strand together for strength, usually 2 to 6 plys. If enough are plyed together, it’s useful as rope. Obviously rope will be good for tasks that 2 ply wouldn’t and vice versa.
We know in CS that it doesn’t take crowds of people to give effective prayer, and we even know that if no outsider from Haiti is praying, the individuals there are still with God. That said, we are to treat others as we would be treated. If I were in a desperate situation, failing to realize my oneness with God enough to be effective to wipe away the dream and awaken, I’d prefer others to not walk by and “know” I am OK. Their loving words and help would be very much appreciated and would prove to be more effective, under the human circumstances. We also know in CS that prayer, rightly directed, yields results for it brings to light the love, and power of Divine Mind, Spirit, so we reach out in prayer. Individually doing this in our own private home, is good, and many are doing that, effectively. But some of us like to share our perception, and “ply” our thoughts together into a Spiritual rope, so to speak. When, in events like this in Haiti, it can seem so overwhelming, some of us may wonder if we’re any help, or how to handle such a problem far away, we get strengthened by joining and receiving the support of others. Like fibers, if a weak point in thought comes up in us, already other strong ones are joining together to prevent a weak spot or break in our rope of love.
Voicing our thoughts, achieves something even more useful. If I had a task that required quite a number of places to lift, and quite a lot of debris to be found and brushed out, I might miss some important spots, and my work would be less effective than when I get the added help from others. So they’re inspiration for me to add to what I already was praying about and make my prayer more effective. These prayers do more than help Haiti. They’re shared and applied to situations in our community, our country, the world, and even for family & friends. They give me 2 and 3 or more ply spiritual truths, which make a stronger healing argument for any purpose in CS.
There is yet another reason we let our “light shine” through comments. I’ve mentioned this before, I think, When my family had to check on expected rabbit litters after dark, we used flashlights to walk the lengthy path beside a pond, and through woods. Our purpose for light was to see our way and in the litter box. It came in useful for many other things to us. It let us see if a rattlesnake or copperhead was close enough, for they’re here in the Appalachians. They let us enjoy a bright colored salamander, a screech owl on a low branch, etc. They did something else that we had no intention of using them for. It may never have happened, but if someone were across our hollow on the facing mountain, lost, no light, or clue which way to go, although we would not have known they were there, and indeed our 2-D cell flashlight would not have reached far enough to shine on them in all the trees and distance, they’d be able to see our light! It would give them a sense of direction, knowledge where help might be, a signal we’d hear now their call for help. In our world, as we know it, there are always others needing to see such a spiritual light, to help them find their way. Jesus said to let our light shine, and not put it under a bushel, (Matt.5:14-16). This avenue for comments following each lift, lets us do that. The lecturer who gave the day’s lift is a strong light, but some on dial-up, can’t get that adequately, but can read comments and get some idea of where that light was heading. Jesus said a city set on a hill could not be hid. Each day, the lift, sets us individually higher (on a hill) compared to where we might mentally be without that inspiration.Though scattered all over the world, we’re a sort of “city” joined as we are through the lift and the shared remarks, our light, will be seen! Our light is shining and drawing others to it. There is nothing premature, improper, or unproven about what is shared. Most are sharing from something they’ve found useful to console, lift, heal, or expand our individual loving response to others and to situations, such as Haiti. If, what we write did nothing for Haiti, it would not be wasted words. It’s achieving individual growth to meet other obligations and needs in our own lives. But, we know it is doing something effective in Haiti. We’re sharing “words” we have gotten from spiritual leaders, hymn writers, musicians, artists, teachers, mothers, daddys, and so many more, as well as from the Bible, and Christ Jesus, and his apostles words and works. Mrs. Eddy, our CS leader, made us aware that “Word” is God, as John says in chapter 1 of that book. Isaiah 55:11 says His word does not go out and return to him void, and it prospers in the thing for which it was sent. We got the words we share from angel messages, and from those who got them from angel messages. We got the words from Christ Jesus, his apostles, and voicing them, they will not go out and return to God void.
There are some healings I’ve worked on that have been difficult for me, slow, or still ongoing. I have, however, experienced so many wonderful, “spectacular” healings with my family and self, that I know they are healable. I can’t do geometry, I know enough math to know those who do, know what they are talking about and working out, sometimes done for me. Actually, it’s the simplest healing that means the most, in its own way, proving the truth of CS. I’m talking about the kind that we just grow used to tolerating, and know in a couple of days or weeks it’s symptoms and evidence will go away on its own, but under CS treatment, it vanishes right away. Something is there! Placebos show thought brings healing. When we lift the thoughts “out there” there will be healing. This site is a blessed one, it is bringing hope, inspiration, healing to individuals participating, and to situations and people that don’t even know it exists. Our gratitude for it opens the door for us to receive the healing light, and to let our light be sent from it, useful even far away. May you be blessed, too, by it, for you are loved by all involved; I think I can safely speak for the others, too.

Thank you #104 for your eloquent simplicity that expresses our deepest intents of not only aiding to remove the rubble of materialism from Haiti but the rubble of materialism from our own eyes and human experiences and the world clutter. Your response is precious.

I am very grateful to have continued checking this over the weekend and to have read the latest comments. Thank you, Andrea, to have sparked us to dig more deeply, and I greatly appreciate the thoughtful responses that followed.

I want to be more clear that I was referring to #92 – #105 in my last comment. Our active prayer is “light” blessing the situation. I have just watched news reports on Haiti on 2 different news stations and, although there is continued chaos, there has been tremendous progress and huge steps forward. They are continuing to find people alive, the airport is open and supplies are getting to the people. This evidence of God’s goodness hints at the Truth of His allness. We mustn’t get lax in our prayers; there is still much to be done and continued prayer needed, especially regarding organization. Declaring this Lift’s primary focus of divine Mind telling everyone exactly what to do is vital.

From last week’s Responsive Reading | John 6:25-26
And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
And from S&H 254:27 “If you launch your bark upon the ever-agitated but healthful waters of truth, you will encounter storms. Your good will be evil spoken of. This is the cross. Take it up and bear it, for through it you win and wear the crown.”
Certainly many of us are coming back to this conversation thread to be filled with the spiritual bread that is being cast upon the waters. It is not the miracles we seek, but the Truth. The leavening we perceive is hidden in the “meal” and has changed the entire loaf. Once we are spiritually filled, we learn to feed others. Like a flame that ignites others and loses none of its own light and warmth, but enjoys the company of other’s demonstrations. It must start at home (in our own hearts), before it can be effectively shared with others.

I think your prayer for those in Haiti is great. They needed it. They just need to look beyond their material thoughts and, listen to what god is saying to them.

This never happened under God’s government! Knowing the truth helps US handle this aggressive mental suggestion. In Him we live and move and have our being.
