Thank you so much Elise. Recently I’ve had a wonderful experience with forgiveness, and have learned to pray “Father, I don’t need this memory any longer. Help me to just let it go.” And then I replace it with a truth about God. We just don’t need the extra baggage.

Thank you. The word clemency also includes mercy and gentleness. The word inclement came to me recently, and I looked it up. We have had some drought. The opposite of mercy was harshness. I began to see the two definitions given in the Webster 1828 dictionary for inclement dealt first with weather, then with qualities of character.
I praised God for His clemency and mercy. Acknowledged His all power, and government. I thought of the Old Testament prophet praying and seeing a small cloud form, and continuing until more clouds, and then rain. I followed his steps. I saw clouds form from 3 sides, and blow in toward our farm. How could that be? Of course, they were at different altitudes. I realized that God made the earth, the clouds, the winds, and could certainly do precisely what He wished. I stuck with it. On the west, over the Pacific, way out was a small band of clouds. Looking at the ocean, it was evident there is no shortage of water, and Principle would put it in its right place. After four hours away, I had to unload the car in a hurry to avoid getting drenched. We have had several good rains since. The same laws apply to the other parched countries in the news.

34. anne says:
I must go back over the Psalm 136 in order to get out of it, what Elise did. It seemed to me to be praising God for many destructions to come to the enemies of Israel, or perhaps this is two psalms combined into one, the first is praising a merciful God, but the rest is of a God who destroys and takes property from some to give to a people called Israel. I thank God for mercy and showing me how to be merciful to share my benefits with others.
35. Carol says:
I often wake in the mornings with a hymn in thought. When I woke up this morning thinking of the words to Hymn 250 and then heard the Daily Lift, it was clear this was the lesson for today. Thank you Elise,. And it seems so much easier to add mercy (God’s mercy) to the “tone” of the spoken word than to the “tone” of the written word, so as not to create offense, where no offense was intended.

47. Wendy from Connecticut says:
As a follow up to my earlier note (#26), one of the things I did this morning was to send an email to the local adult education department telling them how much I am enjoying the line dancing class I’m taking and how enthusiastic the instructor is. I just received a call from the woman who heads up the organization. She said, “Wendy, we always get complaint after complaint about this and that. You are the FIRST person to send in a positive comment. Thank you so much for doing that. I am going to send your email on to the instructor right now.” What a ripple effect your lift has been! I feel good, the woman who calls feels good, and soon the instructor will feel good as well! Thanks again for your wonderful message!!
48. Peggy A. says:

#34 The original Psalm 136 consisted only of verses 1-9,25-26, no war there just gratitude for God’s mercy and goodness.
Verses 10-24 were added perhaps during or after the exile in thanksgiving for God’s deliverance from Egypt and successful entrance in the Promised Land.
50. Maria Elvira Drummond – MG – Brasil says:
Thank you very much for this uplifting thought!
To know that God´s mercy is infinite gives me a wonderful feeling that I´m being cared, protected and guided through the “path of rightousness for His name´s sake”, no matter the bad choice I´ve maid at a given moment. I´ll always have a second or seven chances, “but not until seven times but until seventy times seven.” ( St. Matthew 18: 22 ) Yes…sssss!!!
51. Mary H says:

53. Ned says:
A mercy-full day. That’s great. Thanks!
54. Paul Marthaler says:
This, and the comments, have been very helpful to me. Sometimes, I now realize I have been too “harsh”—the opposite of mercy. This is something I have never realized before. Being cognizant of it now will temper my behavior toward others. To be loving and kind is something we all must do, and our prayers then will be more effective in promoting peace…..
55. Joan, Maryland says:
With many of the daily lifts, I listen to them a few times. Each listening, of course, brings the meaning(s) clearer and helps me think of how I will apply them to my daily life. Much to think about. Many thanks to you all.
56. Oma says:
Thx a lot!
57. Heidi says:
This was wonderful for me to hear. I have just tuned in after 12 noon my time. i seem to be burdened with a severe cough, and to hear that God is merciful to me was like a cup of cold water. God doesn’t cough. So how can i as His image and likeness, cough?
Thanks for this.
58. Susan says:
I woke up this morning, opened my hymnal and kept turning to hymns with the word ‘tender’ in them…so with this added thought of mercy, I’m now singing the refrain from our Hymnal Supplement 445: Tender mercies are holding me…..
59. Mary E. says:
Another beautiful “UPLIFT” and a new thought of how to express and share our daily thoughts to others. It makes me so very grateful each day to find and listen to this great ongoing activity. Thank you all—-

Hey Elise!!! So good to hear your voice – and message. Have you heard of the book The Shack? Very interesting. At one point God says to the main character “I want to help you take on the nature that finds more power in love and forgiveness than hate.” Of course the 23rd Psalm is pretty good too: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life….” I love your idea of initiating mercy, not just reacting…. but being proactive. lots of love!!!
63. Vonne Anne from CA says:
Just had an unpleasant conversation with a neighbor who was complaining about an issue. She seems to have nothing else to do and calls often to see if I can “solve” the problem. Your helpful “lift” was just the answer for me! Mercy and forgiveness are mine to express as they are for her. Thanks.

70. Anonymous says:
Elise, what a timely message. This morning I was pondering how to forgive somebody. The how and why were both expressed in your message – because God is merciful. Not only should I do it, but I am able to do it because God does. “For in him we live, and move, and have our being.” [Acts 17:28]. And the last line of Psalm 23 along with the refrain in every line in Psalm 136 are both so wonderful because they reminded me that all of this is forever. Much Love.
Nancy – Connecticut

A wonderful way to forgive …… show mercy in our thought to those we may be having trouble forgiving…. and to know that God’s mercy is always following us…… as we follow God…..
74. Richard Horner, Pasadena, CA says:
Thank you, so much, Elise, for this wonderful reminder of God’s love for each of us. We, in turn, can express those same Christly qualities on our brethren. To me, expressing compassion towards someone else and seeing their need is part of that mercy. There’s a big difference between having compassion and having sympathy for someone. This KNOWING that God has mercy on us gives us the ability to love more and have compassion. Thank you, dear Elise, for letting your Christ light shine!
75. Olivia says:
Better late (listening) than never!
I was stewing over what felt like an un-mercy-full act done to me this morning; your gentle explanation of feeling compassion for that dear one, and all dear ones, has now gotten me past that P.S. (personal sense) snit and has made me feel, instead, floodtides of mercy. Thank you, Elise!
To #62 ann benson in tucson: Ron Ballard mentioned “The Shack” in one of his Lifts. You probably saw it. I didn’t recognize the name at the time, but now that a flight attendant showed me his copy of the book a couple weeks ago and you have mentioned it, I think it’s high time I read it. That quote from it that you cite is a blessing. Merci
76. Rosa from Tn. says:
Thank you, Elise, for giving the explanation of Psalms 136, in reply to Anne #34, I thought that very interesting. Today, I was unable to read my “daily lift” before going out as I usually do. But It seems that I was the recepient of the the mercy and love today in my coming and going, So was truly grateful as I came home and listened and enjoyed your wonderful mercy-ful message and all of the other beautiful truths given by the others!

¡Qué mensaje maravilloso nos has dado hoy!
Thank you Elise, for a tremendous upward push! Quite a few years ago I decided to forgive a relative for many years of oppression –and so be able to continue with my life. At that time I became quite familiar with Ps. 23 and 37, then my life was renewed to a point that I began to feel compassion for my relative. When I truly forgave, then wonderful things came into my life. What a wonderful message you have given us today!
83. Jimmy says:

85. Claire says:
Thank you too for these wonderful ideas – I know it’s now Monday morning but I want to express my gratitude for your Lift and for all the wonderfully helpful thoughts expressed in the comments – especially Janet ( #4) dealing with drought and inclement weather. As I read it the other day it really struck home – especially the idea of no shortage of water in the ocean and that Principle would put it in its right place- we have been experiencing a severe drought here for sometime and that idea really inspired me see how I could apply that truth to us here too ( in S Africa) . The clouds built up all Saturday and it was tempting to think that nothing would come of it – yesterday dawned and there had been a little rain during the night, but then around 7.30am it came down ! Wonderful, wonderful rain all day ! Principle had certainly corrected the false belief and I’m so grateful for the inspiration which had been shared and which put an end to the fear and doubt – Thank you ALL ….
86. Christine from WV says:
Elise,
love the idea of proactive mercy. The many comments on this shows that many have been blessed to have learned the importance of this compassionate quality that exists because God has already provided for its expression in each of us. These comments are so helpful as well as the wonderful daily lifts. It’s like getting many lectures in one. Principle and its idea is one.
love to you

Mercy widespread, unbounded grace, tribute, a psalm to raise, hymn of praise, gratitude. Wow. Lots to express today–never a dull moment! Thank you!

40. Malcolm Drummond, Henrietta NY says:

48. Peggy A. says:

49. Elise says:

Principle and its idea is one.
love to you
