Activities of Church members
Members of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, support each other and humanity through their prayers and practice of Christian Science. Each member is united in prayer and study, in purpose and in activity.
United in prayer and study
- Members unite in their fidelity to three daily prayers or duties: “A Rule for Motives and Acts,” “Daily Prayer” and “Alertness to Duty” (Church Manual, p. 40, 41, 42).
- Members come together in their study of the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons, “… on which the prosperity of Christian Science largely depends” (Church Manual, p. 31).
United under the care provided by Christian Science periodicals
The Mother Church provides print, online and broadcast products that comfort, encourage, instruct and inspire. They are:
- The Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons
- The Christian Science Journal
- Christian Science Sentinel
- The Herald of Christian Science
- The Christian Science Monitor
The Church Manual provides that it is “the privilege and duty of every member, who can afford it, to subscribe for the periodicals” (page 44).
United in activity
- Local branch churches and societies bring together members and friends of The Mother Church who are progressing in their spiritual journeys and practice of Christian Science. Find a local branch church or society.
- If there is no branch in your area, there may be an informal group of Christian
Scientists nearby. Please inquire by writing to clerk@christianscience.com.
You can also listen to the Sunday Church service from The Mother Church. - The Manual provides for class instruction, a two-week course in spiritual healing.
- You can expand your healing practice by serving the public as a Christian Science practitioner, Christian Science nurse, or Christian Science military chaplain.
- You are invited to write for the Christian Science periodicals, to share the healing and progress taking place as a result of your study and practice of Christian Science. Read submission guidelines.
- You can help to correct impositions on the public through active engagement with the healing activity of the Committee on Publication. Find a Committee on Publication.
- The Annual Meeting of The Mother Church is a wonderful opportunity for members to gather together and listen to reports about The Mother Church. You can attend this meeting in person or via webcast. You can also read about the meeting in Church periodicals.
- Your contributions to The Mother Church help bring healing ideas to the world.
