Along with regular Sunday and Wednesday church services, Sunday School, Reading Room events and church tours, The Mother Church hosts a variety of other public activities, some of which are described below. Check the events calendar for a listing of specific dates and times.
Public talks about Christian Science
Talks are occasionally hosted on the Plaza and cover a variety of public topics, showing how the teachings of Christian Science bring healing and regeneration to you, your friends and community, businesses, governments, and more. The ideas shared enrich lives regardless of religious affiliations and help you understand how you can use the truths of Christian Science to bless and be blessed. more information about this kind of talk
Organ recitals and chiming concerts
The organ, built by the Aeolian-Skinner Company of Boston, is one of the largest in the world with a total of 13,384 pipes ranging from the size of a pencil to 32 feet in length. The organ is played from a four-manual console located in front of the platform.
The Mother Church has had bells in the Church’s towers since 1894. The current chime of eighteen bells was founded by Royal Eijsbouts of Asten, in the Netherlands, and was installed in the bell tower in 1984. This free arts and cultural event, sponsored by Fenway Alliance, happens each fall. The past few years, it has officially kicked off at 10:00 a.m. at the Christian Science Plaza. Throughout the afternoon and all around the Fenway area, Fenway Alliance and 30 additional community partners host events, workshops, performances.
Every Thanksgiving day, you can join the online congregation for music, singing, reading the Thanksgiving Proclamation of the President of the United States, a Scriptural reading, prayer, a Thanksgiving Bible Lesson from our pastor, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and testimonies of healing and gratitude appropriate for the occasion. There's an organ prelude and postlude, plus an online church lobby which is open for 15 minutes after the meeting.
