Healing of a facial tic

I found out about Christian Science through a friend who had talked to my mother about it. At first, I wasn’t interested, and I doubted the value of these teachings. But then my mom was healed of serious respiratory difficulties through prayer in Christian Science, and she encouraged me to study it.

I was 12 at the time, and was suffering from a facial tic. An ophthalmologist had given me a prescription, but it had no effect. I blinked incessantly and couldn’t help moving my head all the time. For two years I hadn’t been able to stop blinking for two seconds at a time, which was painful. I also suffered from the way other people, including friends at school, looked at me.

I began reading the Bible and Science and Health. I especially studied page 468 of Science and Health, where you can find “the scientific statement of being.” The idea that most helped me was that man—that is, all of us—is not material, but spiritual. I learned that I was the image of God. Therefore I began to understand that I couldn’t be sick, because God never gets sick. As I prayed, I didn’t think about the tic anymore, and about a month later I realized that it had disappeared. I was healed.

I was very happy to have been healed by God. I no longer have any tics, and now I feel that I’m like other people. It has been four years since I recovered.

What I like about this book Science and Health is that it talks a lot about God. Yes, I think this Science is wonderful!

My daughter did suffer from a facial tic and pain in her eyes, as she recounts in her testimony. When I found out about Christian Science, I recommended that she read the Bible and Science and Health, as I was doing in order to be healed of my troubles. That’s what she did. I’d like to state that we used to read the Bible before, but without understanding it.

In less than two months, Valerita was healed. I didn’t pray for her specifically. She was healed simply by reading Science and Health. Nevertheless, my prayers included everyone in my home. I leaned on the truth of “perfect God and perfect man,” as Christian Science explains it (see Science and Health, p. 259), while being conscious of the true spiritual and perfect nature of the members of my household. This passage from the preface of Science and Health comforted me greatly: “To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings” (Science and Health, p. vii).
