A simple truth brings healing

For about two years I had a wart on the bottom of my foot. I knew it could be healed because I’ve been experiencing healings ever since I first started practicing Christian Science. So I never sought any medical remedies. But because the wart was not in a noticeable spot, I didn’t give it much thought or specific prayer.

One night, while lying in bed, I was feeling overwhelmed by many things I needed to address, and didn’t think I knew how to pray about them. These problems seemed so big and important.

The thought came to me, “How do you expect to heal those if you can’t even heal a little spot on your foot?” The answer I heard was immediate: “Well, I can’t do it, but God can.” This idea made a lot of sense to me, and with that I fell asleep.

It couldn’t have been more than a couple of days later when I noticed the wart that had been on my foot for two years was completely gone. I was ecstatic, so grateful, and a little bit surprised to learn that healing can be as simple as acknowledging God as the only power, the true healer. In this case, instead of feeling as if I had to do something and was personally responsible, I had to be humble enough to acknowledge God’s power. These words from a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal express this idea:

All power is given unto our Lord,
On Him we place reliance; …

(Christian Science Hymnal, No. 10)

I’d learned that our only job is to reflect and express the dominion that God gives. This realization also helped me pray about those other problems that felt so big and important.

The healing happened a year ago and has remained permanent along with the gratitude I have for knowing as Christ Jesus did that “I can of mine own self do nothing” (John 5:30). God is good and is the only power. Whether we are praying about what seems to be a big or small problem, really knowing the fact of God’s omnipotence inevitably heals.
