3/17: God bless my...

3/17: God bless my...

  1. Thank you Elise! That was wonderful!

  2. What a wonderful way to live our day and to bless ourselves and our loved ones and all we come in contact with or even think about. A simple powerful prayer. Thank you so much for sharing it.

  3. thanks for this little prayer.
I like it very much :)

  4. What an unselfish prayer, Elise! Thank you so very much. "God, bless my enemies, make them my friends." Here I found another prayer just like that one where MBE goes further, “God bless my enemies, as well as the better part of mankind, and gather all my students, in the bonds of love and perfectness, into one grand family of Christ's followers“ (Misc 273:12). I will never understand why some people doubt that Christian Science is Christian . . . I wish most religions would follow Christ as MBE showed us to follow Him!
To the question, "Do you believe in God" she answered, "I believe more in Him than do most Christians, for I have no faith in any other thing or being. He sustains my individuality. Nay, more—He is my individuality and my Life.. " (UN 48:5) and further down she says, "To me God is All. He is best understood as Supreme Being, as infinite and conscious Life, as the affectionate Father and Mother of all He creates" (UN 48:12) Yes, Christian Science is Christian!

  5. Yeah! Thank you for the practical ways to put into practice this beautiful prayer of our beloved leader. These are great ideas that I can use.

  6. It is awesome, Elise to consider all the people, all over the world today, who will be prayed for and receive blessings, for we pray not in vain (3rd Commandment, we can expect the prayers to be answered) because of your Lift. It's 4AM when I listened, but without reading comments, I know this will be embraced with earnest love by all listeners, including the many that never send a comment, but still are faithful to the lifts. All those fellow drivers on all the roads, (and I will have to make a sincere prayer for my telephone company), and people on the less “friendly” side of news stories, terrorists past & present, entire neighborhoods, even cities & states! Yes! Even governments and individuals in them that we'd often like to vote out! Done with the pure love you speak of, this could go a long way to usher in the millennium! Prayers for others have been asked for before in Churches, but they can't be compared to this enthusiastic, global embracing crowd listening to the Daily Lifts, devoted to God, as we've come to know Him in CS. I feel blessed just to have listened to this Lift. Praying for all these and more to be made God's friends and to feel the joy and peace, and healing of Love (I added that word to my prayers already started) – this lift just has to be akin to the 7th Beatitude - this is peacemaking.

  7. Thank you a great reminder

  8. Super Elise, no wonder Mrs Eddy (and anyone holding to this blessing) healed! How important that I start and maintain everyday with that attitude of blessing. Thank you for the lift!

  9. This is such a wonderful prayer I am going to share it with my best friend in New Zealand who is going through a difficult divorce at the moment I feel she may see things in a different perspective with this.
    Thank you!

  10. God bless you for sharing this delightful and loving prayer from our Leader! "Truth is affirmative, and confers harmony." (S&H 418:20) Mrs. Eddy continues, "By the truthful arguments you employ, and especially by the spirit of Truth and Love which you entertain, you will heal the sick." This "God bless" prayer to me expresses this "spirit of Truth and Love,"
and we can expect it to confer harmony, to heal. I look forward to entertaining this new thought for today! Thank you, Elise.

  11. Very cool! Wonderful ideas, Elise. God's loving power is so bright with joy, love, and inclusiveness. May all of my friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, even perceived enemies, feel divine Love's ever-present loving power that uplifts, transforms, forgives and heals!!

  12. MIs Wr. 339:23 "hast thou a friend and forgettest to be grateful...."
    thank you......

  13. WOW! Exactly wanted I needed for today! I have been up since 3 a.m. working and praying with this week's Christian Science My Bible lesson on Matter and listening for guidance relating to workplace issues along these lines. I thank you and God bless you for listening to the One Divine Mind, and lovingly share your inspiration with (us) your neighbors, Elise. I am truly grateful for these Daily Lifts and thank everyone on the team responsible for bringing them to us daily.

  14. Thank you, Elise! Your Lift is leaven for mankind who is hungry for
pure, spiritual, Love. With our Leader's prayer, one knows no enemy.

  15. Thank you very much. I did not know this prayer. It is so wonderful and comes at a time where I need to pray for many people (family, friend, foes etc) including myself.

  16. Nice.

  17. Very nice! Thank you so much!

  18. TY Elise...perfect for everyday!!

  19. Thanks Elise, very practical and applied Christian Science! We appreciate all you are doing.

  20. Thank you so much , Elise, for sharing this beautiful prayer. It surely is an extension of The Daily Prayer which we are admonished to pray daily: "and may Thy Word enrich the affections of ALL mankind, and govern them!"
    Have a great day, everyone!

  21. I wonder, could this also include a Mother-in-law? I shall try to include her in my prayers. Someone dear to me once asked, "do you think that humility is a quality of God"?.......big silence. Over the years I have asked others this same question. One friend said, "that's an interesting question. I think that humility is, the ability to begin all over again. I said, I like that". Maybe I can, "begin all over again". Thanx Elise.

  22. Thank you, Elise! How Mary Baker Eddy, and now you, remind us of this important teaching of our Master, the master christian, Jesus Christ.

  23. Thank you, Elise, for this wonderful prayer which we can pray every day! The comments elicited by your Daily Lift are so helpful too. Blessings multiply each day from these lifts. I am so grateful!
Thank you, too, for the wonderful excerpt from your lecture, which appeared online not long ago. I loved it so much that I listened to it at least three times.

  24. What a powerful prayer, Elise! It has an infinite embrace and universal usability! Thank you so much. All have a blessed day!!!

    In Portuguese:

Que poderosa oração, Elise! Ela tem um amplexo infinito e usabilidade universal ! Muito obrigado! Um abençoado dia para tod@s!

  25. What a wonderful little prayer! Thank you, Elise!

  26. Thanks for re-orienting my praying, Elise!

  27. Thank you for that wonderful prayer. I will use it every moment.

  28. How powerful and simple this prayer is and of course its healing effect is assured through Omnipotence......

It is applicable any where and any time......makes me want to gallop and I don't have a horse....

  29. Thank you, Elise, for letting me know to pray this way for all my fellows and the whole humanity as well.
It´s really effective to take our supposed burden off!
God bless you all from the Daily Lift staff for this wonderful work!

  30. Thank you for one self.

  31. This is beautiful and I thank you Elise.
#6, J.S's comments are a perfect perk. This is a wonderful way of communicating our love for Christian Science.

  32. God bless you all, and me, make us His friends; 'give us to know the joy and the peace of love.' Amen. [My220]

    Warm thanks Elise, from Nigeria.

  33. Help! Someone out there! We have not been able able to download the precious lifts for several days now. Is there anything you can do from your end? We miss them so much.
Thank you any way for all the love they bring. I am sure this one would have been lovely, Elise.

  34. Dear Jocelyn,

Please e-mail dailylift@christianscience.com so that we can work together to make sure you can listen to Your Daily Lift.

    Daily Lift Team

  35. There's such a loving, healing embrace going on around the world through these spiritually-empowered Daily Lifts.

Thank you for each of them and thank you, Elise, for this one! Beautifully stated and applied. It is bringing help and healing at this very moment.

  36. Dear Elise, I love the way you expanded the prayer to include everyone and yourself as well. And I say God bless all the people who write for and comment on this Daily Lift for they know the joy and peace of Love.
Thanks so much for the most wonderful talks you gave in Valley Park, MO this weekend! Hugs

  37. Thank you so much for making this awesome prayer so practical in our everyday lives! And God bless everyone here.

  38. Thank you, Elise, for this all-inclusive application of Mrs. Eddy's prayer! God blesses us all. I love these Daily Lifts!

  39. Oh Thank-you so much Elise! That was just perfect !

  40. Thank you very much indeed! Elise. I am surrounded by rich inspirational messages evey day.(#4) Elena Schideler Thank you! for translating your
beautiful comments into Spanish. they are already a blessing and comfort to some employees at the nearby swimming club.

  41. Ditto....Ditto...Ditto

  42. loved it will be a very wonderful prayer every all day. thank you

  43. Thank you for that whole prayer - which as you suggest can go beyond ourselves to all wherever they may be.

  44. I instantly felt the power of this prayer! Merci!

  45. What a wonderful prayer of petition! I really enjoy thinking about what that means. Lately I've realized that God is always blessing us, so my thought has shifted a bit to change the petition into an affirmation and say, "God blesses!" God blesses everyone today! :)

  46. What came to me after the Lift and all the comments. "Thou art the guest of God, the power and the promise." I loved the gallop too!! ty ty ty

  47. What a wonderful way of seeing that simple prayer. Thank you for bringing a fresh look into it, and thank you all.

  48. Thank you so much for this very inspiring daily lift!

  49. Thank you. Healing follows unselfish love. Healing follows all-embracing and unlimited love. Healing is the expression of the omnipresence and omnipotence of divine Love. Mrs. Eddy gave specific and compelling instructions: "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to pray each day: - - " and then she gave us the Daily Prayer (Manual page 41). One evening I was scanning the newspaper patiently waiting for the family dinner that my wife was preparing in the kitchen. The TV was on reporting the evening news. I was not payng any attention to the TV. All of a sudden I heard a loud shout for joy and my wife came into the living room jumping and shouting for joy. What happened? What happened? And she asked - "Didn't you hear the news?" She quietly told me how she had been praying every day about a story she was following in the Christian Science Monitor. It was about unrest in a foreign country, and those who opposed the government were being thrown in prision. The news reported on TV that the government had just released 15,000 political prisoners, and she saw this as a direct result of the power of God in the affairs of men. Her experience has been a constant reminder to me to elevate my thought and prayers to include "all mankind" so that they will know "the joy and peace of love." Thank you, Elise, for your shared inspiration. With gratitude.

  50. Thank you so much Elise. I am so grateful that this prayer includes everyone as well as Mother-in-laws.
    I could easily pray;
    God bless my Mother-in-law,
    Make her Thy friend.(and mine)
Give her to know, the joy and peace of Love.

I will use this prayer for family etc. often, thank you so much.

  51. Thanks. Matches my current bedside reading of Love Your Enemies in Prose Works -- recommended to anyone who read this and would like to dig a little more.

  52. Thank you Elise. Is it possible to get the reference to that Prayer in the books. Thank you

  53. The prayer mentioned by Elise in today's Daily Lift is found in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist and Miscellany" by Mary Baker Eddy, page 220:21.

    Daily Lift Team

  54. Very helpful. So pure and so practical. I am grateful to have it (& the various versions) to add to my daily prayers. These lifts are such a blessing. Thank you.

  55. Thank you for this Lift. It is a great reminder for always praying and loving your "enemies" (which you really do not have in the first place!).

  56. Thank you Elise! Very loving and useful prayer.

  57. Wonderful - thank you so much!

  58. Years ago I attended a lecture and I remember the example of praying for enemies given by the lecturer. Num. 12:13 As I recall, Miriam was trying to destroy Moses and Miriam became leprous. Moses prayed..."Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee."

  59. Thanks Elise for that lovely Daily Prayer! If God is All, then we reflect all; be it our neighbor, our friends, our family, our co-workers, and even our enemy, we can express this God-given wonderful qualities of joy, and peace and love. We truly are blessed to receive these Daily Lifts as a reminder to practice Christian Science continiously. Have a blessed-filled day everyone!!!

  60. Such helpful ideas, simple ,specific, and affirming. A great "Lift" to share w/friends, too! Much love, Elise! :)

  61. Thank you for bringing this prayer reference to our thought today...very helpful.

  62. Thanks Elise, I'll be praying that way today; beautiful way of praying for our world too; that needs our prayers badly. God is our and everybody's best friend!!

  63. Elise,
WOW! I am VERY grateful for your message this morning. I have been doing a lot of specific work on this specific subject to bless my so-called enemies or those I felt always seemed to be in contention with me. Somehow I haven’t seen the results I was expecting and didn’t feel I was making much progress.

You prompted an epiphany in my thinking.
    .

:-( Do my so-called enemies also perceive me as their enemy? Are they praying just a hard for my metamorphosis? Am I doing something, however unintentional, to cause the friction? Even if their thoughts about me are incorrect or unjustified, am I just expecting my prayerful work to make them change? Perhaps I am the one who needs a change in my thought, attitude or approach!

What a great discovery to make them God’s friends and know He blesses them. I don’t need to make them my friends. It is only important to understand them as God’s friends knowing they will find peace and blessing in their relationship with Him.

Often we expect our relationship with others to be mutually rewarding or to get something in return for our love, outreach, devotion and dedication. For example in describing marriage, Mrs. Eddy says. “That it is often convenient, sometimes pleasant, and occasionally a love affair.” (Mis 52:12-13).

Our relationship with others should not be conditional on their positive feedback and perhaps we shouldn’t expect to benefit from their experience or even see the results of their blessings ourselves. It is enough to establish their at-one-ness with God while we focus on our own spiritual progress.

So I will resolve to be a better friend, a better example, a more faithful demonstrator on the path as far as I am led. And if I get unexpected or negative feedback, perhaps I will first look no farther than my own thought for something needing correction and guidance. Certainly recognizing God as my new BFF (best friend forever) is all I need for a fresh start in all my relationships.

  64. Another wonderful Daily Lift. Very helpful. I was getting ready to look it up the quotation "God bless my ...." when I saw that the Daily Lift Team told us where to find it. I have loved and used it for years, but wanted to read it in print again. So my thanks to you at "Daily Lift" -- and to Elise for new ways to put that quote into practice. I do enjoy and benefit from the Daily Lifts.

  65. Thanks for this, Elise. I've prayed this prayer many times, as part of my daily work, in regard to my "enemies." Why not for myself or "others"? Who knows? But I'm delighted with the thought that this prayer can be universally applied in so many different ways, in regard to so many "others." This is so expansive! Thanks so much.

  66. Thank you Elise for this application to all.

  67. Thank you Elise.

This really makes me open up to ALL (including those who I have excluded from thinking about because of what they said or did.)
So, to Mike in Toronto #21
Yes, everyone is touched and included in this prayer. No exclusions. The
Golden Rule from Jesus says we do unto (and act toward) (and pray for) others in the same way we would want them to act toward, and think about, and pray for us. So, no exceptions to this prayer by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
We are leaving the character of others completely with God.
The big job is to really know that man and woman are really made in the likeness of Spirit, Father-Mother God, Truth, Love, and therefore must be Very good. Gotta love 'em as such.

  68. Great thought! Especially since often the day-to-day enemy comes in the guise of a relative, a co-worker, a classmate :-) Thanks!

  69. How wonderful to apply this prayer to those who are serving in the Congress who may be seeing the opposition as an enemy. "Make them Thy friends" so that we will all be together knowing peace and love. This will be my prayer today.

  70. Dear Eloisa,
What a burst of light - uplifting our thought, centering it on Mrs. Eddy's prayer, - a powerful, healing antidote addressing the world's cries for relief.
Using this prayer for our military members and their families, healing support for our country's leaders and support for the President, - countering destructive divisiveness with Christian unity.
Let's consider embracing our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy's strong counsel and plea to daily study and embrace Christ Jesus' Sermon on the Mount as a primary choice influencing our thoughts, prayers, and conversations.
And what a blessing this could yield !
    Byrna
    Palm Desert, CA.

  72. Thank you Elise.

This prayer reminds me of one of my favorite Bible verses from Job 32:18.
"...there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding."
I am not the mediator between my family, friends, or co-workers and God. God is always communicating love and life to his children.

  73. lovely Elise. So good to hear you - and that very comforting prayer.

  74. A great way to prepare and clear our thought when we take to the highway. Thank you.

  75. Just before I listened to this lift my husband and I were talking about Moses and I related the story of Miriam's leprosy and how Moses reacted to the situation. And beautifully it was mentioned here #58. How beautiful.
    Gotta love that one MIND!!!

  76. Thank you Elise for this beautiful idea. It is truly a beautiful reminder that we are all blessed in our daily activities and everyone that we come into contact with. This prayer is so very helpful no matter what situation we are dealing with. thank you again for this reminder.

  77. This is a truly wonderful Lift, Elise. I applied it to everyone: up and down this Village; at church; my children and their partners; my grandchildren; their friends; those on the roads; in the stores; the Post Office; in government. . . I just kept adding and adding to it. What a wonderful expression of lovelovelove and more love!

  78. Thank-you, Elise, for this very inspiring message.

  79. Hey! It´s me again!
I´ve just read #63 comment and I want to greet him/her for his/her wonderful "epiphany" in his/her thinking!
You really hit the target of Jesus´s words about the "unconditional love".
Sometimes we find ourselves praying to change others around us in a way we think it should be, but what we really need to acknowledge is the ever-present spiritual perfection and harmony not only on ourselves but on others as well, because that´s the only way God sees us, His beloved children.
That is all about the "unconditional love" that God expects us to express.
    Thanks a lot!

  80. Thank you Elise. What a wonderful idea to use that prayer ourselves, and not only for our enemies (so-called) but for all with whom we come in contact. Thanks for the reference. I have written it down to remind me often. Love to the DL team and the lecturers.

  81. How wonderful to shine the light on something we have had some familiarity with, and see it anew, and full of life and newness, and surprising blessings.
Reminds me of the Bible story about the dry bones.

What fun to explore the new possibilities.. thanks.

  82. THANKS, ELISE
    WHAT A WONDERFUL PRAYER!
    GOD BLESS YOU!

  83. THANKS, ELISE!
    GOD BLESS YOU, DEAR!

  84. God bless my daughter-in-law; make her my and Thy friend...Bless you Elise for bringing this peaceful, joyful prayer.

  85. Thanks for the lift.
I love all the unique comments.
Thank you #50. (God bless my mother-in-law, make her Thy Friend and mine...)
Hymn 160 says, "Old friends, old scenes, will lovelier be, as more of heaven in each we see; some softening gleam of love and prayer shall dawn on every cross and care."

63's comment about God being my new best friend forever (BFF), reminded me of what MB Eddy says in Miscellaneous Writings,

"Brother, sister, beloved in the Lord, knowest thou thyself, and art thou acquainted with God? If not, I pray thee as a Christian Scientist, delay not to make Him thy first acquaintance." (p. 151)

  86. Thanks so much, Elise, for this very inspiring message. I've been praying with it all day.

  87. What blesses one, blesses all! Thank you for this wonderful Lift, to remind us of the "allness" of God's love - no lapse from nor return to its all-inclusiveness for all mankind. Thank you to all who share their thoughts around the world. What blesses one really does bless all.

  88. Dear Elise, it is so good of you to share with the whole world Mrs. Eddy effective prayer! GOOD WORK!

  89. Thank you this is very comforting.. This is the message I was waiting for the last three weeks Blessing to everyone who I mingle with at work.Thank you so much

  90. Elise, thank you for sharing the prayer that Mrs. Eddy used to embrace her enemies. Your enlarged use of it is lovely I have added it to my tool box.

  91. I'm a day late reading this lift, but it occurred to me that if I perceive that I have an enemy, then the healing needs to start with me. I had a friendship for many years that has become hurtful. Its very difficult for me to think lovingly of her, I was praying that she would "soften". Shame on me for seeing her imperfection as reall. The real healing need is for me to stop seeing her as someone who needs healing, but recognize it only as a 'suggestion' that came to me to be healed. Thank you for this lift..I will bless "EVERYONE."

  92. Just want to add my thanks for sharing Mary Baker Eddy's powerful prayer, and your valuable insight about applying it in daily life.

I spoke about these ideas from this Daily Lift last night at a meeting before church. About half the people there had listened to the Lift earlier in the day -- so clearly this outreach is being utilized!

Also, I'm sending a link to this Daily Lift to someone of another denomination. This is a universal prayer that expresses perfect conformity to the teachings of Jesus.

  93. Thanks #79 and #85 for the encouragement. There is a lot of humility that still needs to come into my thinking. I'm working on it and today's lift (3/18) on True Identity is a great start in that direction. Michael (63).

  94. This is so helpful. My teenage son is struggling with his sense of identity. I have been praying to know he is being fathered and mothered by God all the time and that he is receptive to God and good. This prayer you shared is a wonderful way to think of him being a friend of God with all the joy and peace of love that attends that friendship. Thank you.

  95. Elise, thank you for this wonderful reminder to see everyone correctly, even those we consider our "enemies". To Mike #21, don't just "try" in regard to your wife's mother. Drop the "in-law" and see her as an "in-love" or better yet, "in-Love". Elise, I look forward to your lecture in Athens, GA, this month.

  96. Thank you so much for the lovely thoughts!! I used this prayer some years back when there seemed to be a family relationship problem going on. I prayed with this every day and before long, the problem just went away.

  97. Thank you so much for this wonderful idea of blessing everyone and being constant in our spiritual path.

  98. Loving and blessing our enemies. What can help us more than forgetting ME and loving as God loves. Thank you.

  99. ... And so God;s Kingdom comes! Thank you, Elise, for this widening sense of our Daily Prayer!

  100. now that's just plain useful - thank you so much for encouraging my prayers.

  101. I agree with ben above, this is most definitely useful... a belated thank you, Elise!

  102. Was just reading a few more of the comments, thanks also to J. Carol for sharing the idea of an in-love, or in-Love, rather than in in-law. I love it!

  103. Thank you Elise for all you do, this was great!

  104. Hi Elise,

As a little child in a spirit of play I have returned to this marvelous offering
for some further inspiration. I am working on improving my prayers through
a better understanding of the chapter on prayer and how MBE applied the
spiritual sense of CS to illuminate, expand, various statements of truth. Here are the results of this play may they bless all who read and use them to good effect or just find their own sense of play and delight in this kind of thinking.

In the bare bones of the enemies prayer where each sentence is a statement, if an interrogative tone was not implied, it could be construed to seem as if the prayer might be telling God to do something instead of asking. What if we put more emphasis on a spirit of love and humility with added words and punctuation that help convey motive and attitude.....more of the tone (spirit) of our asking?

Dear, God.....bless my enemies (sin, sickness and death? nah, I mean false personal sense. Replace the vision/impressions of the belief(s) of animal minds many--including mine--with a peaceful sense of the divine Mynd One.)

Please, (politeness, importunity) make them Thy (pick a synonym substitute for the pronoun) friends.
(A friend of Love is a friend of mine (my love). God's law is that Love is always reflected in love.)

I affirm -- the truth -- that Good always has the power to ...give them to know the joy and peace of love. (everpresent)

So now the prayer looks more like this:

Dear, God...bless my enemies and all my earthly brethren/'neighbors'. (universalize it!)
    Please...make them Love's friends.-or- Please...make them Thy beloved friends.
I affirm that Good, our (mutual, spiritual) Father-Mother, can and always does...
give them to know the joy and peace of (ever-present, divine) love.

Contrast this with the implied fear and doubt of a questioning asking:

God! Won't you puh-lease... bless my enemies? (Tone of irritation and impatience)
Won't you... make them Thy friends? (for my sake?) Get them off my back. For I surely can't deal with them any longer. Tone of futility and helplessness.)
Won't you..give them to know the joy and peace of love? (Would you preoccupy them with all that good stuff so they will finally quit hassling me all the time! (Tone of an exasperated request for relief)
