Just before I tuned into the Daily Lift, two lines from H.39 came into my thought:- "Be Thou our guardian, Thou our guide, O'er every thought and step preside." Reading over the whole hymn, it fits in beautifully with this lovely lift, so many thanks for supporting my inspiration for today.
Mrs. Eddy also says on page 444 line 10 of Science & Health "Step by step will those who trust Him find that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble". Walking step by step with God, we know that we can never be in trouble, because He is with us at all times and in all circumstances, guarding us and guiding us safely.

Psalm 17:15 reads: 'As for me I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness' This is a beautiful Lift, thank you. This weeks lesson, subject Love, with its sectional references to the 23rd Psalm is great with the promise from our Shepherd, divine Love to establish confidence in each step of our journey with God..... (...is it a 12 string guitar and not a mandolin? My husband too loved listening to the lifts each day this week, the music has been perfect.) I love this Lift, Lorenzo, because I love this journey of Life. I love the way new glimpses of spiritual understanding open the way to help others. The hardest work is leaving behind all the unnecessary burdens - the human hypotheses and false beliefs - and being ready to accept the next step of our spiritual journey. Mrs Eddy says "Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear. . ." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy page 323-324. The best part is the journey just keeps getting better.

Thank you Lorenzo Rodriguez. I like that. It is something I can always work with. It is something that of course is said in the art world. What would art be without process? It is all about process and results are often not the most important because man needs to express his creative identity. That identity that takes him outside of himself, forgetful of basic needs even, when so wrapped up in the creative process, time takes another shape and we are just in being. I like this analogy because it is something we all experience at some point.
I will always have something to learn on this point. I can always do better-be closer to God. I love being in my 60th year. I do take each step more consciously and confidently and truly more contained-in the container of who I am. What I mean by this is more at peace-not as jumpy and all over the place. I walk with the knowledge of the experience of all the footsteps I have taken prior to this one coming. Hmmmm.....what a great way for reflection is this Daily Lift. Thank you so much for your worthy contribution and best of the days to you as well.

What a perfect reminder that what we are looking for is already in progress.
I remember when I was 14 how impatient I felt about becoming 16 for its associated rights and privileges… most notably… driving myself to the stables! Now, in fact, I always had transportation to the stables, but I was convinced it would be “better” my way.
Now I am … well not 16…. And it is easy to think…I want to get the whole spiritual picture in focus right now. Oh, wait… isn’t that like saying I want to drive myself to the stables? When, in fact, I already have transportation.
“Even eternity can never reveal the whole of God, since there is no limit to infinitude or to its reflections.” – S&H 517:21. There is eternal revelation going on. We’re apparently part of it, rather than seekers of it - therefore, I can just calm down and be today’s blessing.

Our lives are always a work in progress. You know, when you go for a walk, you enjoy every step of your journey, feeling the gentle breeze on your face,; looking at the trees, flowers, birds, and sky. You really don't consider that at the end of the walk lies the treasure. The treasure is the walk itself and every unfolding piece of beauty along the way. So true as you said Lorenzo that we all sometimes fall for the error in thinking that once we attain a certain goal, we will be complete. That's such a finite perspective. Our journey toward perfection is a spiritual one and Spirit is infinite. There is just no end to how much better it gets. And how wonderful is that!!

I am going on a girls ski weekend with a number of new "friends", I haven't met yet. The lift today and all the joyful comments have helped me so much be really excited to share this journey with other sincere seekers for Truth and to know every step, every moment is God guided, guarded, protected and beautiful!
Since I have been working on a new work venture for the last month, I have been working with these different ideas on a daily basis to know I know all I need to know, that I am about my Father's business and that each day is a blessing. It was really nice to expand that thought outside of work to our daily walk with God and as my teacher says, "expand the boarder of thy tent."

"Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven" S&H 254:31, is part of the last citation in the last section of this week's Bible Lesson. Over the years, I have been bothered by the use of the word pilgrim by Mrs. Eddy and in some of the hymns in the hymnal. All I could think of was the pilgrims who came over on the Mayflower and ate Thanksgiving with the Indians. Yes, I knew they were seeking religious freedom, but it didn't gel until today when I once again looked up pilgrim in the dictioary and finally began to understand that pilgrims are on a JOURNEY -- Spiritward and YES! we are on a journey to understand God/Spiritual being and our home -- heaven. And how wonderful our Shepherd is beside us protecting and guiding us with his correctional rod and staff of support.

Thanks, Lorenzo. At one time, I was a "hold my breath till I get there," person. Then, it came to me that "the journey IS the destination!" Step-by-step, at every point in our lives, God is there - not mocking! God only guides and protects us. And where there is God, there is reason for rejoicing! Lorenzo, your Lift has really helped me. I've always dreaded difficult journeys - especially the past few years. There have been difficult business dealings with dishonest people and the journey has been a long one. There has been healing along the way, and outcomes that almost seem impossible to believe, and I am so grateful. I had to trust God every minute. However, I have not been able to find enjoyment in the journey. I think my focus on trying to "get it over with" has always stood in the way. If I were to keep track of the progress and healing, I would find that it has been an amazing adventure of spiritual growth and trust. I think I'll check my mental bags at the door and trust God's eternal love every step of the way going forward. Thanks so much for the Lift.

I was going to say something a little similar as Lyn # 44. Because even on a human level, I notice again and again that sometimes you drive through a place - city or countryside - and mostly look on the road. Of course. There is a lovely spot North where I love going: it is such a gentle hilly countryside, in summer with fields of red poppies or of yellow rape, or just the clouds in the deep blue sky and the green medows; and in winter with the white coated branches of trees and bushes - - what I was going to say is that I go very slowly in by car (fortunately there is not much traffic on these small roads) in order to be able to enjoy this "journey". Isn't this what you calles "a sense of accomplishment".
Or being in town and just walking along the streets, one suddenly sees things one never noticed in the car: a lovely roof top or a pretty little garden ... or the like.
And isn't this the same with our spiritual journey: I discover things in the weekly lesson which I may have read a thousand times - and suddenly it is all new. Like last week: very often Jesus asked those who needed healing what they wanted he should do. And I often thought, funny that he asked because he should have seen what needed healing. But suddenly I remembered what M.B.Eddy said that "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, ..." (476) Yes, of course! He only saw perfect man - no problems! Another step of the journey.

Lorenzo, your inspiring thoughts about the importance of the journey we are taking step by step were very clearly and beautifully explained. The spiritual lessons learned on the journey prepare us for the goal or destination. God directs and guides our path in ways that we might not have expected. As we trust God's direction, we are always blessed in our journey. After listening to today's lift, I was reminded of an article that I think about often called "All of the Way" written by Milton Simon.This article appears in the first Anthology of Classic Articles published by The Christian Science Publishing Society. The ideas in this article have helped me many times. I especially like the thought that "In every situation Love is present to act quickly and conclusively, to 'take us all the way'." Also in this article is the quote by Thomas Huxley, "'The rung of a ladder was never meant to rest upon, but only to hold a man's foot long enough to enable him to put the other somewhat higher.'"
I am most grateful, Lorenzo, for your truly uplifting Daily Lift on "The Journey" and for all of the commenters very helpful thoughts, hymns, and quotes. I can really relate and appreciate each one. Thank you Nate and the lift team for all that you do.

Thanks Lorenzo for explaining "the journey.....step by step....
And Bev from Sandpoint, ID (#42).....you reminded me of Hymn #82: "God is working His purpose out as year succeeds to year..." and the first verse ends with: :When the earth shall be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea." Those words really say it all, don't they?!
Also loved Lyn in Alabama #44) and how she described her "walk"! That was REALLY helpful! Thanks!

Thank you Lorenzo. And thank you Pegwich, I never understood 'the Pilgrim" references either, but now with your humility, a light bulb went on in my thinking and I get it.
And Melanie from Carlsbad, your honesty has been helpful too. As I am on a "redo" journey. Or a "do-over" journey. The first journey I thought I was so smart to get help with prayers, so that I could go around problems. It worked temporarily and now, I am by myself with praying. I am sure every daily lifter knows you cant get around God's journey for you.
That is why Lorenzo is saying enjoy it, because God is the controller of where you are going. Sorry God for the "redo" journey, I will get it right this time, rejoicing all the rugged way.
Hope this helps anyone that isn't paying attention to the prayer, "THY Will be done on earth as it is in heaven", that is why Jesus said to "watch" and Mrs Eddy said to "Think".

The rhythm of Janice's (33) and others' words 'step by step' made me think of 'day by day the manna fell' and the manna was just the right quantity for that day's nourishment - and if it was not used it was wasted and lost, in the same way that Lorenzo reminded us to use all the steps of the journey to receive and savour the lessons each day brings. It was indeed a 'daily' lift ! Thank you !

I'm engaged in a renovation project for a non profit religious organization in which I badly underestimated the time and budget required to complete the job. I have learned much humility and had to pray for solutions and ideas to communicate and keep everyone involved in a positive way while passing the deadline date and budget limitations. So while this journey could become uncomfortable, it is good to take the time now to engage in this daily lift, to appreciate that my joy in the work is not and cannot be diminished.
And no one's joyful expectation in this project can be diminished, for "whatever blesses one, blesses all." and "...today is big with blessings." (S&H).
Thank you Lorenzo for thinking of the journey, and thanks for all the comments.
I expect this renovation journey to have a happy ending that will continue to bless long after its completion.

What an inspirational lift for today! It reminds me of a story about two 'footprints' in the sand - one of God, and the other of man. They eventually, or at some point, turned into one set of footprints only. When God was questioned about it he replied, "That's when you needed me to carry you." How many times in life have we all yielded to God's omnipresence and omnipotence, and were 'carried'. I love the thought of going on life's journey as a child always - joyful, always eager for new ideas and opportunities, and having 'fun' all the way along! Thanks again.

- 1/27/2012Just before I tuned into the Daily Lift, two lines from H.39 came into my thought:- "Be Thou our guardian, Thou our guide, O'er every thought and step preside." Reading over the whole hymn, it fits in beautifully with this lovely lift, so many thanks for supporting my inspiration for today.
Mrs. Eddy also says on page 444 line 10 of Science & Health "Step by step will those who trust Him find that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble". Walking step by step with God, we know that we can never be in trouble, because He is with us at all times and in all circumstances, guarding us and guiding us safely.

- 1/27/2012Thank you Lorenzo Rodriguez. I like that. It is something I can always work with. It is something that of course is said in the art world. What would art be without process? It is all about process and results are often not the most important because man needs to express his creative identity. That identity that takes him outside of himself, forgetful of basic needs even, when so wrapped up in the creative process, time takes another shape and we are just in being. I like this analogy because it is something we all experience at some point.
I will always have something to learn on this point. I can always do better-be closer to God. I love being in my 60th year. I do take each step more consciously and confidently and truly more contained-in the container of who I am. What I mean by this is more at peace-not as jumpy and all over the place. I walk with the knowledge of the experience of all the footsteps I have taken prior to this one coming. Hmmmm.....what a great way for reflection is this Daily Lift. Thank you so much for your worthy contribution and best of the days to you as well.

I remember when I was 14 how impatient I felt about becoming 16 for its associated rights and privileges… most notably… driving myself to the stables! Now, in fact, I always had transportation to the stables, but I was convinced it would be “better” my way.
Now I am … well not 16…. And it is easy to think…I want to get the whole spiritual picture in focus right now. Oh, wait… isn’t that like saying I want to drive myself to the stables? When, in fact, I already have transportation.
“Even eternity can never reveal the whole of God, since there is no limit to infinitude or to its reflections.” – S&H 517:21. There is eternal revelation going on. We’re apparently part of it, rather than seekers of it - therefore, I can just calm down and be today’s blessing.

You know, when you go for a walk, you enjoy every step of your journey, feeling the gentle breeze on your face,; looking at the trees, flowers, birds, and sky. You really don't consider that at the end of the walk lies the treasure. The treasure is the walk itself and every unfolding piece of beauty along the way. So true as you said Lorenzo that we all sometimes fall for the error in thinking that once we attain a certain goal, we will be complete. That's such a finite perspective. Our journey toward perfection is a spiritual one and Spirit is infinite. There is just no end to how much better it gets. And how wonderful is that!!

The lift today and all the joyful comments have helped me so much be really excited to share this journey with other sincere seekers for Truth and to know every step, every moment is God guided, guarded, protected and beautiful!
Since I have been working on a new work venture for the last month, I have been working with these different ideas on a daily basis to know I know all I need to know, that I am about my Father's business and that each day is a blessing. It was really nice to expand that thought outside of work to our daily walk with God and as my teacher says, "expand the boarder of thy tent."

- 1/27/2012"Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven" S&H 254:31, is part of the last citation in the last section of this week's Bible Lesson. Over the years, I have been bothered by the use of the word pilgrim by Mrs. Eddy and in some of the hymns in the hymnal. All I could think of was the pilgrims who came over on the Mayflower and ate Thanksgiving with the Indians. Yes, I knew they were seeking religious freedom, but it didn't gel until today when I once again looked up pilgrim in the dictioary and finally began to understand that pilgrims are on a JOURNEY -- Spiritward and YES! we are on a journey to understand God/Spiritual being and our home -- heaven. And how wonderful our Shepherd is beside us protecting and guiding us with his correctional rod and staff of support.

- 1/27/2012Wow, I've been clearing out storage and ten years of 'stuff', feeling overwhelmed and what to do with all this or that. Lorenzo, you have changed my whole thought and attitude. And you Lifters, yes, you have given me so much to ponder and to realize that there's something to learn each step of the way, that Love is showing me what to do next, and that this is a joyful time. - 1/27/2012Thanks, Lorenzo. At one time, I was a "hold my breath till I get there," person. Then, it came to me that "the journey IS the destination!" Step-by-step, at every point in our lives, God is there - not mocking! God only guides and protects us. And where there is God, there is reason for rejoicing! And so, there is a divine rationale/foundation for a joyful journey to wherever the destination, which is only yet another part of the journey. Bon voyage, Everyone!!! :-) Thanks again, Lorenzo.

- 1/27/2012Lorenzo, your Lift has really helped me. I've always dreaded difficult journeys - especially the past few years. There have been difficult business dealings with dishonest people and the journey has been a long one. There has been healing along the way, and outcomes that almost seem impossible to believe, and I am so grateful. I had to trust God every minute. However, I have not been able to find enjoyment in the journey. I think my focus on trying to "get it over with" has always stood in the way. If I were to keep track of the progress and healing, I would find that it has been an amazing adventure of spiritual growth and trust. I think I'll check my mental bags at the door and trust God's eternal love every step of the way going forward. Thanks so much for the Lift.

I was going to say something a little similar as Lyn # 44. Because even on a human level, I notice again and again that sometimes you drive through a place - city or countryside - and mostly look on the road. Of course. There is a lovely spot North where I love going: it is such a gentle hilly countryside, in summer with fields of red poppies or of yellow rape, or just the clouds in the deep blue sky and the green medows; and in winter with the white coated branches of trees and bushes - - what I was going to say is that I go very slowly in by car (fortunately there is not much traffic on these small roads) in order to be able to enjoy this "journey". Isn't this what you calles "a sense of accomplishment".
Or being in town and just walking along the streets, one suddenly sees things one never noticed in the car: a lovely roof top or a pretty little garden ... or the like.
And isn't this the same with our spiritual journey: I discover things in the weekly lesson which I may have read a thousand times - and suddenly it is all new. Like last week: very often Jesus asked those who needed healing what they wanted he should do. And I often thought, funny that he asked because he should have seen what needed healing. But suddenly I remembered what M.B.Eddy said that "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, ..." (476) Yes, of course! He only saw perfect man - no problems! Another step of the journey.

- 1/27/2012Lorenzo, your inspiring thoughts about the importance of the journey we are taking step by step were very clearly and beautifully explained. The spiritual lessons learned on the journey prepare us for the goal or destination. God directs and guides our path in ways that we might not have expected. As we trust God's direction, we are always blessed in our journey. After listening to today's lift, I was reminded of an article that I think about often called "All of the Way" written by Milton Simon.This article appears in the first Anthology of Classic Articles published by The Christian Science Publishing Society. The ideas in this article have helped me many times. I especially like the thought that "In every situation Love is present to act quickly and conclusively, to 'take us all the way'." Also in this article is the quote by Thomas Huxley, "'The rung of a ladder was never meant to rest upon, but only to hold a man's foot long enough to enable him to put the other somewhat higher.'"
I am most grateful, Lorenzo, for your truly uplifting Daily Lift on "The Journey" and for all of the commenters very helpful thoughts, hymns, and quotes. I can really relate and appreciate each one. Thank you Nate and the lift team for all that you do.

- 1/27/2012Thank you Lorenzo. And thank you Pegwich, I never understood 'the Pilgrim" references either, but now with your humility, a light bulb went on in my thinking and I get it.
And Melanie from Carlsbad, your honesty has been helpful too. As I am on a "redo" journey. Or a "do-over" journey. The first journey I thought I was so smart to get help with prayers, so that I could go around problems. It worked temporarily and now, I am by myself with praying. I am sure every daily lifter knows you cant get around God's journey for you.
That is why Lorenzo is saying enjoy it, because God is the controller of where you are going. Sorry God for the "redo" journey, I will get it right this time, rejoicing all the rugged way.
Hope this helps anyone that isn't paying attention to the prayer, "THY Will be done on earth as it is in heaven", that is why Jesus said to "watch" and Mrs Eddy said to "Think".

- 1/28/2012I'm engaged in a renovation project for a non profit religious organization in which I badly underestimated the time and budget required to complete the job. I have learned much humility and had to pray for solutions and ideas to communicate and keep everyone involved in a positive way while passing the deadline date and budget limitations. So while this journey could become uncomfortable, it is good to take the time now to engage in this daily lift, to appreciate that my joy in the work is not and cannot be diminished.
And no one's joyful expectation in this project can be diminished, for "whatever blesses one, blesses all." and "...today is big with blessings." (S&H).
Thank you Lorenzo for thinking of the journey, and thanks for all the comments.
I expect this renovation journey to have a happy ending that will continue to bless long after its completion.

- 1/29/2012What an inspirational lift for today! It reminds me of a story about two 'footprints' in the sand - one of God, and the other of man. They eventually, or at some point, turned into one set of footprints only. When God was questioned about it he replied, "That's when you needed me to carry you." How many times in life have we all yielded to God's omnipresence and omnipotence, and were 'carried'. I love the thought of going on life's journey as a child always - joyful, always eager for new ideas and opportunities, and having 'fun' all the way along! Thanks again.
