Be a conduit of light where you are
Reprinted from The Christian Science Journal
Although I do believe with all my heart that the path will open up for me to serve in a Christian Science nursing facility, for now I am honored, blessed, and humbled to be one of the conduits of the Light of divine Love in a hospital, where I work in environmental services.
I would like to share a wonderful demonstration at the hospital that happened recently. I was cleaning a room on a unit, and looking across to the other room, I saw a patient trying to get out of bed—very wobbly. I ran over and helped him sit down. He kept trying to get up. I informed the nurse on the floor, who was working on the mobile computer. She said I was to tell the patient to “hold on” and that she would get there. I did as she said. Then I went back to the room I was cleaning across the hall. All of a sudden I heard a very loud thud. I ran over to the patient, who had fallen on his knees and then flat on his face on the hard tile. A nursing aide had gone there to help him but could not hold him.
I held his right arm and whispered to him, “All is fine.” I said God was with him and in God no injury or accident can happen. I told him gently to think about himself running, jumping, and walking all around as if he were a child. I helped the nursing aide lift him up from the floor. To our amazement he was light as a feather! This man was very large—over 250 pounds. I am over a hundred pounds less than that, and the aide was even smaller! The patient was back on the bed. He was checked out and everything was fine. Nothing broken, no bruises. He was calm and peaceful.
The nurse manager of the unit presented me with what the hospital gives out as “star” rewards. Mine was for vigilance and caring for a patient. This gave me the opportunity to post a thank-you for the reward across the hospital and to be a witness for divine Love. I said it was not me “personally” Brooks, or me corporeally, but the reflection of divine Love—the divine idea, the “reflection” we all are. I stated that all humankind are “superstars” in reflecting divine Love, and that I believe there are no coincidences in life. I stated divine Love is always there in every situation and other “stars” are always provided. I quoted from Mary Baker Eddy: “God is Love,” and “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need” (Science and Health, pp. 2, 494). We all exist as reflections of this divine Love. I emphasized that we are all one team in this effort to ensure an atmosphere of lovingkindness and compassion. Shooting and rising stars forever shine more brightly together! Patients and caregivers all are “superstars” together.
Since then, a number of nurses and aides have asked me about Christian Science. I have given out Christian Science Sentinels, especially the ones on compassion and ones related to healings of injuries and accidents. It gave me the opportunity to invite them to our upcoming lecture on Christian Science at a local library.
I am so grateful for how divine Love and Science were manifested through this event.

- 11/30/2011It is true: whenever we make known, with humility, the immutable laws of God to the sick -- whenever this is physically, morally or psychologically -- miracles happen! I appreciate this directness of Christian Science in solving our brother or sister problems, since it actually works! This is true Faith, being known not through dry religious treaties but by practice. Bless you!!
